Michelle not only told me what I needed but more importantly what I did "not" need; something not seen in large corporate dealership service centers were you are charged for maintenance whether it is needed or not. Alex was great when I needed a new alternator. He recommended I get a new battery as well, which I didn't do in time, and blew the new alternator. Alex was understanding and helped me get a second alternator for no charge due to the warranty. Great family-owned business! read more

WARNING, this place is ridiculous so don't waste your money! I used to go to Nette's who retired so was looking for a new St Pete Beach mechanic. I took them my car and told them I needed oil change, new wiper blades, check the AC for suspected leak, check front suspension for squeak. What a run-around. For $68 they ran diagnostics but didn't know how to read them or what the codes meant. They agreed that the ball joints needed replacement so I asked them to do this and they said they couldn't as they didn't have the staff to do it. They put the die in the AC to locate the leak (as an after thought) which identified the leak but when I asked them to replace the hose (which turned out to be seals) they said they didn't do that because they didn't have the staff. The Mother and Son like to talk and talk and talk.... but they are guessing at the diagnostics so you don't know what to believe. And the wiperbaldes....I know what I want but was told that I didn't need new wiper blades. Are they in the business to make up a diagnosis and not know how to fix anything. I feel completely ripped off by them and basically paid $203.13 for an oil change. The place is filthy and my choice of seats when waiting was a dirty dog hair covered chair or sit outside on a cement planer next to a collection of abandoned used latex gloves and a banana peel. There's a collection of sweet dogs in the office who desperately need to have their nails trimmed and it took a wipe down and spray to get the smell of old dog out of my car. The best thing they did for me was refer me to Charlie's Transmission. read more

Have taken our van here several times for service and detailing and have always had excellent service. Very friendly, honest, and down-to-earth people and affordable prices. We have a bad habit of killing the battery and Terry herself pulled out the load tester and let us know our battery was on the way out but not shot yet. Free diagnosis and jump. When we finally killed it completely a few months later you bet we came back and bought the battery she recommended - cheaper than the few other places I checked and we haven't been able to hurt it yet. Another time my wife was panicked because she was driving her bosses car and started smelling something burning. Thinking the car was overheating or a belt slipping she brought it straight to Terry's. Terry again came out and immediately knew what was wrong. She walked to the tail pipe and pulled off a plastic bag that had stuck there. Again, no charge, thanks for stopping by, come back when you really need something! They aren't big on looks or cleanliness, but if you can overlook the cluttered service bay and don't mind dogs in residence, give them a chance and they'll treat you right. read more

Found Terry's Auto from google search and was not disappointed. We are from Missouri so you never know what could happen when you go to some place out of town. Very nice people got us in same day. They ended up not even being able to do the work as they don't do tires. Didn't charge us to look at it or anything. They sent us to another shop that quoted us half what the first place we went to was. Very happy we went to Terry's saved us a bunch of headache. read more

I can't recommend Terry's Automotive highly enough. We drove to St. Pete's from Tennessee and started hearing a strange noise coming from the car. We still have quite a way to travel and were nervous--I called Terry's in the morning and Michelle told me to come by in the afternoon and she would take a look. When I arrived, we took the car for a spin to hear the noise, then when we got back to the shop she popped the hood and checked it out. Thankfully--everything looked good. She and her staff took great care of me, put my mind at ease and gave advice about what to do when we get back home. A brake light went out and they quickly and so kindly changed that for me while I was there as well. They were friendly, incredibly kind and affordable. We had car trouble on vacation and Michelle gave us rides between the resort and the shop, gave us a very fair price before preforming the work, and made us aware of other wear on the vehicle that will need attention in the future but was not urgent without pushing us to fix it right then. THEY SAVED MY VACATION! - I can't say enough good things about my experience with Terry's, they did a great job on short notice for a great price. I drove to St Pete's Beach from Minnesota for a vacation. The day we arrived the breaks on my van started making a terrible grinding noise. I called Terry's and explained the problem and that I had to drive 1,600 miles back to Minnesota in 5 days. They got me in the same day and had it done at 1:00 the next day for about half of what I thought it would cost.
