I needed new tires for my car, and having such a honest experience with Jim, I asked him to give me a quote.

About a month ago, I asked them to do an oil change while rotating my tires. They called to say I needed a new belt, and since the old one was clearly worn, I agreed. Immediately after they installed the new belt, my car developed a constant squealing noise. When I brought it back, one of the techs insisted it could not possibly be the belt, since "new belts don't make noise." They then told me I needed a new belt tensioner and charged me about $270 for parts and labor. The next day, the squealing was still there. I went back yet again, and one of the shop guys rubbed chalk on the belt -- and the squealing immediately stopped. That proved the issue was with the belt they installed, not the tensioner. I asked the manager for at least a refund of the labor I paid for the unnecessary tensioner replacement, but he refused. His reasoning? "If you go to a doctor and they don't fix you on the first visit, you don't get a refund." I explained that this was a terrible comparison -- if a doctor replaced a knee I didn't need, that would be a lawsuit, not just a "try again." He stood firm and said the only way he'd refund was to uninstall the new part and reinstall the old one, wasting everyone's time and leaving me without my car for another day. In the end, I left things as they were -- a new part I didn't need, labor I paid for unnecessarily, and a belt that still squeals. Tire Kingdom has lost my business permanently. Bottom line: if you just need tires or rotations, they'll do the job. But if you need real mechanical work, take your vehicle to a trusted local mechanic -- not a chain shop that won't take responsibility when their own diagnosis and work don't solve the problem.

DO NOT USE! I cannot…read morefigure out why 50% of the mechanics feel the need to completely RIP OFF their customers instead of raising their rates. I do not have a fleet of cars and I have NEVER shopped for a mechanic based on their hourly rate. Their hourly rate is MEANINGLESS because a crappy/dishonest mechanic will end up costing your more in the end. 1) Something in my engine was chirping and my AC was occasionally not blowing cold. I was quoted $1400 plus tax (14% with them!) for an AC compressor. The repair bill would have minimally been $1652 for parts, labor, diagnosis. I was told the compressor had a known issue and I was being given a better compressor (SKETCHY). I purchased a NEW compressor kit for $200 and my regular mechanic charged me for 4 hours of labor (see attached invoice). There is no algorithm that justifies their quote, but wait... 2) They misdiagnosed the repair. This is forgivable but SKETCHY. I have tolerance for mistakes, but the incorrect paid ($56) diagnosis (guess?) came across as lazy and/or incompetent (coupled with the insane quote). The AC compressor was FINE (known issue my butt). My idler pulley was missing, the serpentine belt was loose. Their diagnosis burned me for $676 (uber, diagnosis , unneeded repair). 3) They charge 14% sales tax. Yes right. Sales tax is 7%. They conveniently omit the % on the bill knowing most people will not question it. This is a grimy greasy way to make money. I have seen other shops pad fees and taxes that are unnecessary and irrelevant.

I've used Hobson's for years to service my cars but noticed declining service quality and rising…read moreprices since the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite that I decided to take my 2009 Toyota Matrix for an oil change, tire rotation, and AC recharge. I agreed to an AC diagnostic fee of $139.95, with no issues found, and an AC recharge fee of $145.00. Three days later I took the car for a ride to check the AC function. After an hour, the AC started blowing warm air again. On top of that, a hubcap fell off because the person who did the tire rotation did not reinstall them properly. I took the car back to Hobson's to find out what was wrong since he had just diagnosed the Air Conditioner during my first visit. Mr. Hobson said the AC compressor was faulty and needed replacement. I'm not sure why the diagnostics did not find this issue, but I had him replace it. After the compressor was replaced I left the facility only to find the horn was not working so I immediately returned to Hobson's to get that fixed. This raised major concerns about workmanship. Finally, a short week later, the vehicle overheated on a dangerously busy bridge due to a failed compressor pulley and broken fan belt. When this happened, I did not have the car towed back to Hobson's for him to fix it due to a lack of trust and the poor workmanship Mr. Hobson and his staff performed during two prior visits. I decided to take the car to a different mechanic who was highly recommended. This mechanic found the issue with the new compressor was due to two bolts on the compressor head coming loose and wedging into the fan belt pulley causing the pulley to stop turning and belt breakage, which lead to overheating and coil pack damage. This was because Hobson's replaced my compressor with a cheap Chinese part for which he charged $720.00. Similar compressors are available for under $175.00 on Amazon: AC Compressor Fit for Corolla 2009-2010 1.8L L4, Matrix 2009-2010, Matrix 2012-2012, xD 2008-2014, A/C Air Conditioning Compressors with Clutch Replace for 8831002370, 8831002450. A conversation with Mr. Hobson after the incident ended without compromise or a refund offer, as Mr. Hobson insisted that I should have given him a third chance to fix the AC correctly. More importantly, he ignored the poor service I received despite the pledge in his ad to, "only do necessary work, we never overcharge, and we guarantee the job will be done right." I did take the defective part back to Hobson's hoping Mr. Hobson would refund me the money I paid for the part. He did not. What he did was get me a new compressor that is now my responsibility to sell somewhere to try and recoup part of my loss. If it were me, I would have refunded the client the cost of the bad part, in my case, $720.00. You can use Hobson's for your car repairs if you choose. Please understand the service has gone downhill and the prices are going up. In addition, Mr. Hobson does not honor his pledge to guarantee the job will be done right.
