    Delicious shrimp gumbo.

The food was very good especially the shrimp gumbo. The service was excellent. The atmosphere is warm and inviting. Chef Bill Green is living history who provides some wisdom with a good meal.

I had a very pleasant experience at Gullah Grub. I was greeted with warm hospitality and delicious cornbread. The chicken gumbo was wonderful, with a smoky twist to it. The fish was crispy and the potato salad was creamy. The hostess gave us a little history lesson, being born and raised in St Helena Island. I look forward to visiting this South Carolina gem again. I truly enjoyed the experience, from the delicious "swamp water" served in classic Mason jars, to the beautiful art displayed throughout the restaurant. This restaurant was cozy, put me back in time to dining in my grandmother's dining room. Just good food made by happy people. You feel at home, at Gullah Grub.

Like everyone says, they have a very simple menu. And don't think you're gonna come here and get big food for small prices, cuz it ain't happening. But I gotta give them the nod. I've never had this type of cuisine before and it was delicious. A good meal and horizons broadened- that's worth 5 stars. I'd like to have a whole slab of those ribs right now if I could...

Beautiful establishment, great authentic well-made food, and very kind service. Fried fish was delicious and Mac n cheese was a hit. I will be back whenever I am in the area!

Authentic low country food was delicious. My 1st time hearing about and having swamp water. Great service that feels like family. I dined alone so I wasn't able to swap food to taste more of the menu items.

Gullah Grub is for those who appreciate the slow food movement. Authentic, local dishes inspired by the season. Barbecue ribs and chicken are mouth watering and the shrimp gumbo hits the spot. Get an extra order of Mac and cheese to complement your potato salad. They're each excellent. The sweet tea though is incredible - knock your socks off refreshing! Tour Penn Center and the area and finish your day here!

Unbelievable hospitality, service, and best gumbo ever in a very small lovable shack with a lot of history. Highly recommend.

Ask the Community - Gullah Grub

Are they open on Tuesdays? Yelp says yes, website says no due to COVID hours. Maybe thats outdated

It would be advisable to just call the restaurant. It's a small place and is family run so their hours might vary.

Everything was delicious! The wings are smoked, which gives them such a good flavor, and both sauces were amazing. The cornbread was soft, moist, and full of flavor. So good! My husband had the Texas Philly with grilled chicken and mac & cheese. The chicken was tender and juicy, and that mac & cheese had some kind of Parmesan crust on top that made it even better. I had the BBQ with coleslaw and dirty rice. The BBQ and dirty rice were delicious and had a lot of flavor. The coleslaw was just okay for me, though. I probably wouldn't order it again. And I HAVE to talk about the Margarita Flight! It was AMAZING! The drinks were bigger than the average margarita flight, and every flavor tasted soooo good. Definitely worth ordering! We sat outside, and they had music playing and fans to keep the area comfortable. It was such a nice atmosphere, and the food and drinks made it even better. Overall, great food, amazing drinks, a nice atmosphere, and a really enjoyable experience! We would definitely come back!

It doesn't feel corporate or manufactured at all. More like you've stumbled into somebody's lovingly chaotic backyard dinner party where the food just happens to be genuinely top-tier. The mismatched charm, handwritten feel, and warm atmosphere are part of what makes it so special. There's this brilliant contrast between the laid-back hole-in-the-wall vibe and the seriously refined cooking coming out of the kitchen. We started with the fried green tomatoes which were incredibly tender, fried perfectly, and drizzled with a lovely house-made ranch. The sweet house pickles alongside were such a good touch. We also each had a cup of she crab soup which was beautifully seasoned and packed with tonnes of crab morsels. For mains, we shared the shrimp and grits and completely understood why the recipe has won awards, including being recognised as the 3rd best in the world. The recipe is rooted in traditional Lowcountry cooking but elevated with layers of flavour that somehow still feel comforting and homemade. The grits were unbelievably creamy, and the shrimp and sausage were perfectly cooked with fantastic flavour throughout. We also split the seafood purloo with blackened grouper, and it was equally impressive. Everything was cooked perfectly and tasted incredibly fresh without trying too hard to be fancy. What really made the experience though was the staff. Everyone went above and beyond. They took time to chat with us about the area, paced the courses perfectly so nothing felt rushed, and by the end we were leaving with handshakes feeling more like guests than customers. Places like this are getting harder to find. We'll absolutely be back and would recommend it to anyone looking for authentic Lowcountry food served by genuinely wonderful people.

No real complaints here at this point Service: our server was mediocre. Not rude, not really bubbly. Answered questions when asked. Never offered refills on drinks. The iced tea came with very little ice. Never asked if our food was right- we had to stop her because it was my father in law's 79th birthday and he ordered a steak and it was terribly salty! BIL ordered a salad and the ranch dressing was super salty also. Food: outside of salty ranch and salty steak, everything else was super bland. Pulled pork tacos came with nothing but a side of lettuce, what they called pico and sour cream. No sauce. Chicken tenders unseasoned and fried in old grease. Mac and cheese with barely any cheese... seafood platter was lacking ( although to be honest this didn't strike me as the local spot for great seafood). For a party of six gratuity 20% was automatically added so total meal was $123. We did express our concerns to the team on duty. They replaced the steak with the old grease chicken tenders. And the ranch was replaced with a citrus vinaigrette. Again the potential to be a great local and tourist spot in downtown Beaufort is there- but the food caliber and taste for the value/price needs improvement.
