Three of us came here on a Saturday afternoon. There were a lot of seats available, but we waited at least 15 minutes to be seated. I'm not sure if they were short staffed but when we got our food, we didn't get utensils with it and we had to find them ourselves. The Whiting fish taco was flavored very well. Likewise their ribs or Brisket tacos are not to be missed. Don't want to choose? Try the Barnyard and get it all, plus some scrumptious pulled chicken! If you enjoy Tea, might I be so bold to suggest an 85% unsweetened tea with 15% sweet tea in combination. I make this suggestion because I feel strongly the sugar in the tea can overpower and distort the delectable taste of the pulled pork, and chicken, but especially the smoked ribs and brisket which are your main gastronomic want. Try it, I believe you will like it very much. Now to the possible fly in our otherwise prescribed natural ointment to soothe your soul! The Servers in our experience are polite, efficient, and can be personable in the main, but not always. Eight out of ten times they are hard working wonderful people who provide a enhanced dining experience at Q on Bay. However, two out of ten times, they do not, and we have eaten here many times over our almost 20 years here in our beloved "Low Country" dating all the way back to when Q on Bay was Catherine's. So that is why the missing star in my rating at the top of this review. However, to give credit were positive credit is due. Q on Bay's management has parted ways with some of their former Servers, and some of the Servers have taken the same path of action in their relationship with Q on Bay, Overall, we agree that Q on Bay does offer some very good "Low Country" food treats that some of us with what we like to feel are discerning palates, enjoy! Nice place for a BBQ lunch. We sat on the back patio, which is covered so good for very hot sunny days or rainy days. The patio overlooks the public park and the ICW beyond. Very nice setting. They have 29 beers on tap, but you have to walk over to the bar area to see what they have. A beer menu would be nice. Our server was attentive and nice even though she was very busy. We split The Barnyard entree, which included a sampling of everything; brisket, ribs, pulled pork, pulled chicken and 2 sides. For the sides we had their yummy Mac & Cheese and their Hash over Rice. There is indoor and outdoor seating, which is a nice option to have given dining outside gives you a view of the park and water. Would not recommend having a private party here. The bartenders were incredibly kind and did their best, but lack of planning, communication and respect from the owner, Chris, turned our welcome party into a disaster. It started with me being at a different restaurant having a quiet dinner with my now husband on my wedding day. We started getting calls from guests arriving at Q on Bay to say there were problems and we needed to get over there. This meant we had to leave dinner early to rush over. So that was ruined. Then we go next door and the owner is nowhere to be found. Instead of greeting me with a handshake or anything professional he's printed emails of our interactions and is ready to point fingers. The night was awful. He refused to talk to me and apparently followed my husband around like a dog trying to get his attention. The poor bartender had tears in her eyes and was so apologetic. They were in the weeds the entire time. Not at any point in the night did Chris try to come together and fix the tabs. In the end we were absolutely screwed over on our tabs. As were our friends after we left. The owner offered no help and sat in the corner watching the staff helplessly refusing to even make eye contact with me. We eventually left and there continued to be problems after. What an awful way to spend our wedding night and the night before our formal wedding celebration. I know it's difficult to find a space to accommodate a large group in Beaufort, but avoid this business at all costs. read more

I don't like to come in restaurant that I haven't read reviews about first but a storm was rolling in so we ducked in here to grab dinner and get out of the rain. We chose poorly. My husband had been kinda excited because he loves good barbeque. This is not good barbeque, it's not even edible barbeque. He tried to cut into his brisket and said it seemed really tough and dry. He tried to eat a bite and had to spit it out because it was so tough he couldn't even chew it. He sent it back and got a burger and said that was just average. Me and my daughter both ordered the catch of the day which was a flaky white fish that was supposed to be blackened or Cajun but had absolutely no flavor at all. The green beans and mashed potatoes were had no seasoning either. My son got a buffalo chicken wrap that he said was decent but he mac and cheese was very soggy and the noodles were way overcooked. We had to hunt down salt and pepper on our own because there weren't any at our table and we needed it badly. The server was friendly and polite but sloooooow. The cooks need serious training or to be replaced all together. If you have the option to go anywhere else I recommend doing so. read more

Then they served him unsweetened tea twice, even though we told them both times. To top off the day his pulled pork sandwich was cold in the middle. I've eaten a lot of BBQ and this place is at best average. Located in one of the old buildings downtown it's pretty cool inside. The back porch overlooks the city docks and the bay. We started with the fried mozzarella. It was a wedge of cheese deep fried with an excellent tomato dipping sauce. This is a winner. We tried to go a bit light so we settled on the burnt tips and the bbq wings. The tips were half fat. Not good at all. The wings were ok but nothing to get excited about. I began with fresh mahi tacos and then ordered the appetizer of classic BarBQ "burned butt ends" in Q's sauce. OMG -- FANTASTIC. There are varied seating areas both inside & out, I chose the bar and had a charming conversation with bartender JD who is personable and made some suggestions for my brief visit to Beaufort. The food: the BBQ sliders were decent, burger could not have been fresh and was well done when asked for medium. Ate it since I was starving. Our teen got therl shrimp tacos, the tortillas were stale and not heated so that raw and now stale taste. My wife and I were enjoying the SCHS's church tour in Beaufort when we walked down to Bay Street to look for a place to eat lunch. We were quite surprised and also delighted to find a barbecue place close by. We were seated outside at our request and enjoyed the gorgeous view of the water while being able to watch some college football on the TV screens. My wife ordered the Veggie O'Dilla which was a quesodilla with just peppers and cheese. The small size is certainly enough for 1 person. I ordered the Q-Ban which obviously is a play on word for a Cuban sandwich. It had everything i was craving including pulled pork, cole slaw and Swiss cheese. For my side dish, I asked for the mac & cheese. The waitress came back to tell me they had just run out. When my food was brought to the table, it did have the mac & cheese. She mentioned they had made a new batch. I'm glad they did because the Mac & Cheese was also a treat. Housemade and delicious. They also have a great selection of craft beers on draft and in bottles.
