First time here was in 2015 and anytime I come to visit I make it a huge song and dance about how much I love this place. The ribs paired with a mix of Texas sweet and slow burn bbq sauce is just perfect. I've taken friends here who are meh about any kind of bbq and they come out huge fans of bullies. Always grab a bottle of their dry rub because sadly I live on the other side of the country and can't come here often enough. Delicious food! My husband, the family barbecue lover, says it might be the best barbecue he's ever eaten. We ordered ribs without sauce and just dry rub and it had such a great char on them and they were very tasty. The barbecue sauce with basil and rosemary we enjoyed on the side and is absolutely delicious. Brisket was yummy also. Tender and juicy. We've tried the barbecue all over the island and in Bluffton and have found nothing comparable to bullies. The rib special on Wednesday cannot be beat. $24 for a full rack? The four of us also ordered sandwiches and some sides, and we could not eat everything so happily leftovers are in our future. The ribs fell off the bones. Our daughter and son-in-law smoke their own meats, and could not believe how much they enjoyed them. My daughter-in-law said they were better than their own. The pulled pork is out of this world, and our son-in-law devoured his brisket sandwich. Favorite sides include the beans and the french fries, which I never order. But I did share some of my husband's. The Service at the counter was great, and I apologize for not getting the associate's name but he was friendly and efficient. First time there-we are vacationing from PA. They should get 10 stars just for the fact they love French bulldogs. Plus they have pics of the dogs-what's not to love?! We did enjoy the brisket dinner, mac and cheese, and Cole slaw. We also got the chicken sandwich with fries and cornbread. We had a good assortment of sauces so everyone in our party of 4 was happy with the selections and our meals. They had outdoor picnic tables, but it was hot outside so we ate indoors where it was cool. Ordering was easy-there's a sign where u place your order and then they call your name for pickup. Great BBQ! We usually get pulled pork by the pound, which is nicely shredded, moist but not greasy. The sauces are really good as well. They have mustard (SC), vinegar (ENC) , sweet (TX) and hot (??). They didn't give us pickles or bread or anything besides sauce with the meat by the pound. We asked for buns and got the tiniest little buns that were like slider size. Not sure what was going on there. Can't speak to the sides but the BBQ itself is well worth the money. Good BBQ close to Shelter Cove. Service was quick. Inside is pretty basic but clean. The brisket was thinly sliced and flavorful. There was some fat, but no more than other BBQ places. Corn bread was a little more spicy than I like. Baked beans were very flavorful. Potato salad was good. Rolls were great, but the bottom layer was soaked by the time I got home with carry out. When I heard Bullies had been reopened by the original owner, I was hopefully optimistic. I had originally been there several years ago when I first started coming to HHI from Memphis, TN where the BBQ is legendary. FWIW, I was a certified BBQ judge and I can be critical. I was very pleasantly surprised that Bullies produced outstanding Memphis style ribs! My second visit was not a good one and I determined that there was no need to return. Must have been the "new" owners. Very pleased to report that the ribs are as good, if not better, than they have ever been! I don't go to a BBQ joint for the sides, but will say that the coleslaw very good - creamy with just enough sugar to make it tasty. Tastes in collard greens are very personal, so I won't comment on those, but you should try them yourself and see what you think. And I never order French fries at a BBQ joint and I wouldn't change my mind here, but they may be better on site than they were after a 10 minute ride in the car. Bottom line? Bullies puts out competition class ribs on par with the best in Memphis - get yourself in there soon! read more

Ok BBQ that was adequate but after eating so much amazing BBQ on our road trip through The South I just can't give it more stars since while probably being considered good BBQ on Hilton Head Island, this was our least favorite BBQ of our entire trip. The pulled pork was good but served kind of cold/lukewarm despite us eating inside at the restaurant and arriving just 10 minutes after they opened. They offer 5 sauces but they have them pre-poured into tiny itty bitty containers and limit you on how many tiny containers you get depending on what you order. We got 3 tiny containers for buying the pulled pork in bulk by the pound and then you have to pay more money like 75 cents a little container if you want more which is annoying for people like me who like sauce. Although... the sauces weren't very delicious so I didn't feel the need to buy more in the end anyway! We chose: Texas Sweet - touch of citrus, pineapple & brown sugar which was my favorite sauce here but it wasn't amazing Carolina Mustard - the classic Carolina sauce but it was just ok compared to others we've had - a bit bland Carolina Vinegar - very liquidy like straight vinegar but surprisingly tasted watered down so maybe watery from water? I expected more of a punch from a vinegar sauce since I like vinegar The sides weren't very good: -Flavorless/bland Mac & cheese - the worst side we ordered we couldn't even taste a trace of cheese it tasted like just flour/water on boiled noodles -Meh coleslaw not very flavorful despite being vinegar based -Beans that were ok and at least had more flavor than the other sides but not great -The jalapeño cheddar cornbread though was outstanding! We just had so much good food and our experience here was just meh. We absolutely loved how casual it was. You order at a counter and get some cheap BBQ in mins, but the food itself was just okay. It wasn't bad, but it was nothing to write home about. I had the brisket sandwich and it was dry and quite bland. I've had much better BBQ in other places in HHI. Ordered the Pulled Pork Sandwich, a couple of sauces, Mac 'n cheese and the jalapeño cornbread. My favorite part was the cornbread. It was some of the best I've had! Very good bbq chicken and pulled pork. The brisket is sliced thin and very good. This doesn't compare to KC BBQ but all of the meat is so moist and perfectly cooked. I also loved the slow burn sauce, but found most of their sauces on the thin/runny side. The fries are AMAZING!!! The cornbread was moist and delicious and savory (not sweet). Only gripe is that they list their phone number for take out orders, but then put their phone off the hook. I drove over to order and had to wait which is fine, but much less convenient especially during covid. I later learned they take pick up orders via door dash - see photo below! I have to say we had a terrible experience at this establishment. The restaurant supposedly closes at 8pm. We came in at 7pm and ordered the meal for 3 people. The female employee stated that she would give us all 3 types of sauce with the food when my wife told her we only wanted mild sauce. The employee rudely looked at her like she was insulted. Then my wife said she wanted just water at which time she was told she could get it herself even though there was bottle water behind her in the cooler. When my wife indicated she wanted the bottle water she handed it over like she had been put out of her way. Then after paying for the food she told us they close at 7:45pm which is 15 minutes before closing. We sat down to wait for our food and about 5 minutes later she told us there wasn't any brisket left. I find it hard to believe she didn't know this before she took our money. Then the male employee locked the door at 7:30pm now 30 minutes before closing time. We felt like they wanted us to leave so we took the food to go home. (Nothing like feeling you're being thrown out). Once back home we opened the bag and couldn't believe how small the portions were to supposedly feed 3 people. It was a joke!!
