The chicken tikki masala is very tomato tasting, and the chicken is not good quality. I was asked my desired spice level from 1-10, and I asked for 7, but my dish was not spicy at all. I also ordered vegetable byriani which was good. I took a seat at to wait for my take out order and noticed the tables had not been wiped clean, and there was a used cloth napkin on one of the chairs. In addition, the floor walking into the restaurant is very slick. As I was leaving, I could see it had been coated with simething. I went here because it had many good reviews, but I would not return. I prefer Amar in Centerville for the same price (not inexpensive). read more

We love Indian food and wanted to give this place a try. We were happy to find an Indian restaurant in the Dayton area. They were not very busy and we seated right away. Unfortunately, the vegetable pakora was rather dry. Their dipping sauces were also a bit different from most Indian places we have frequented and tasted a bit off. The restaurant is very colorful and they have a lot of seating. Their wait stuff was nice and friendly. The Indian curry also tasted pretty standard. Give them a try for yourself. read more

I was in Dayton working and had the taste for Tandoori Chicken. So I looked up local spots and Gulzar's popped up AND they had a buffet! Parking is on street and pay by app and luckily I found a spot right out front. The buffet bar was smaller than I hoped but I tried everything anyway. Disappointingly the Tandoori chicken was gone except for few onions and peppers. I did show up 30 minutes before the buffet closed down but I was hoping it would be refilled. Never happened which was disappointing. I did try the butter chicken and a spicy chicken dish which were both very good. Again, limited selection which is why I gave three stars. Flavors were good. Just wish there was more to choose from. They do have an ice cream bar, which is a plus and the mango dessert. All in all it was OK and I will give it another shot and just try to show up earlier so everything is fresh. read more

I absolutely love this place! Everyone has always been friendly, from the hosts to our servers. Service has always been quick and personable. The mango lassi was the best that I have ever had. I have gotten the malai kofta and paneer tikka masala, both at spice level 5/10, which had been a manageable spice level for me. The food has always been extremely flavorful and delicious. Outside of NYC, this is the hippest Indian restaurant I have experienced. I loved the modern and brightly colored decor as well as the cool and curent Indian tunes. Everyone was super welcoming from the hosts to the bar staff, to our server. I kicked off my experience with a delicious and well/balanced lychee martini. As a table, my friend and I shared the most flavorful Garlic Naan, Mushroom Paneer and Chicken Tikka Masala. Everything was DELICIOUS! I also loved the scene in downtown Dayton. Ate here for dinner about 8 pm. Restaurant was mostly empty but the wait staff seemed more interested in talking amongst themselves than serving us. Appetizers were standard but waitress brought us food without leaving any silverware and it took a few minutes for anyone to come back out on the floor for us to ask. Main dishes were also standard and satisfying but nothing out of the ordinary. Drinks were bad, overly sugary and the same price as a main dish. It's ok, but just ok. We stopped here for lunch and tried the buffet. My favorite was the chicken tiki Marsala, but it was very mild and I'm used to Indian food with a kick. The saag was also very mild. The chick pea salad had plenty of red onions and I liked that. When we were done I asked if the menu food has more spice and was told that they will prepare it any way you like plus they can bring extra spices. I'll try that next time read more

Did this satiate my (ever-present) craving for Indian food? Sure. Did it impress or wow me? Nah. Came here on a Saturday afternoon and caught their buffet lunch. The selection for entrees was decent, but minimal for apps, sides and sweets. I tried almost all the dishes. Some were quite good, others lackluster, and the majority was average. I went for seconds on their onion chutney, for what it's worth. Ambiance was cute and seemed to be done with care and a lovely building to boot. Service was attentive and kind. I was not shown a menu/told a price beforehand and must admit a bit of a shock at the price tag. This would have bought me a high quality, delicious entree elsewhere that lasted two meals and left me much more content. Maybe I could give them another shot for dinner, but I doubt it. I really enjoy this new addition to downtown dayton. There is a lunch buffet every day but I didn't get the lunch buffet. I got dinner. I ordered the Fish Sabaz, vegetable samosa, and Chai. I liked the ambiance of the restaurant and also the curries. The Chai was really good and was spicy, and the samosas were really filling too (it had a lot of spices also inside, and came with two sauces. The only thing that I would change is the curry had some weird tasting carrots. I'm not sure why the carrots were like that. But the rest was good. I would like to come back for the lunch buffet. Also, I wish there were more fish in the curry, but I guess fish is probably not a popular option at the restaurant. read more

Last night I went to the new Gulzar restaurant. 219 N. Patterson, and here is what I experienced, EXCELLENT food EXCELLENT ambiance EXCELLENT service. This place is very clean, with a very welcoming staff. Sagar took my order and made me feel as though I were an old friend. So courteous, so professional, and very kind to me. While waiting for my food I couldn't help noticing how beautiful this place is, and how comfortable. Next, Deepika delivered my takeaway order to me with such a smile. Such a classy Lady with a beautiful attitude. As for the food, this is authentic Indian cuisine, no imitation. So if you are seeking a great experience with real Indian food killer menus for lunch time and dinner, and some of the best servers I have ever met, all this and good prices too; Gulzars is all you will ever need in Indian cuisine. I couldn't dare close this without mentioning a shout out to Karthik, the very person to serve me at this restaurant, and one of my reasons for continuing to come back. Pretty good for Indian food! We got the chili paneer and samosa chaat. The chaat was delicious but felt as if the paneer was over cooked. Highly recommend the garlic naan and shahi panner (not pictured). The butter chicken wasn't my favorite as it was way too sweet rather than savory. Parking is tough as you will need to parallel park. Picked up some takeout for date night and even though we ordered and waited at the restaurant, they had it out to us pretty quickly. I ordered the chicken tiki masala at an 8 spice level and my boyfriend got the chicken vindaloo also an 8. We also got an order of garlic naan and mango lassis. It was pretty darn tasty although I think next time I will get a higher spice level. It was my boyfriend's first time drinking mango lassi and he described it as a "mango danimal" so if you have never tried it before and are curious, there you go. Heard about this new place in downtown Dayton. We went here on Sunday for lunch (buffet). The place was busy and we had to wait. The menu has a mix of vegetarian and meat items. The vegetarian items were excellent - Dal Makhni, Sog and the Naan bread was very fluffy. The chicken items were ok. The place was a bit chaotic but the staff were polite and service was nice. A recently opened Restuarant in downtown Dayton. They had a good selection of drinks appetizers , main courses and deserts. Great lunch buffet for a very reasonable price, some nice outdoor seating, and super friendly service. I appreciate that all of their buffet food isn't super spicy, but you can add heat as needed. Having a buffet is always nice because you can be a bit more adventurous and not have to get a whole dish of something new. All four of us got the buffet on a Sunday afternoon. We love Saag and Tikka Masala, both of which were good. Everything was hot and looked well rotated. Our all liked the spinach pakora. The chicken curry was just okay. The lamb biriyani was mushy and not very good. We had mixed opinions on the Tikka chicken. Overall, we would definitely go back if in the area, but won't go out of our way to go. We used to go to Amar lunch buffet but that went away during covid and doesn't appear to be coming back. So when we heard of a new place with buffet we wanted to give it a try. It is in downtown Dayton. Cute inside and service very good and attentive. We thought it was good. To be honest amars buffet was better and we liked amars long grain rice better. But since we like the variety a buffet offers ... we do recommend this. I tried some things id never had .. the fried spinach and fried potatoes were good. Food was over salted for my taste. The rice pudding was extra sweet but ok either way. Liked they had water melon. The main thing i usually get at Indian is something with cheese... i believe its called paneer...and they didnt offer that in the buffet today. Maybe it will be there next time. Hope they are easier on the salt... i like salt but that was a bit off putting. You have to pay for parking. read more

The best Indian food in the Dayton area! I went here with two friends: for apps we tried the Gobi Machurian, fried paneer and veggie pakora. We got the Bullet Naan (which was very spicy). Also tried Egg Biryani, Nav Korma (veggie) and Goat saag. Everything was absolutely wonderful. We all agreed we'd order every one of these things again!!
