Party of four. We've been in the past and they've been consistently good. One of our party was completely new to Indian food and loved it. I had saag mushroom, and another friend had their vegetarian biriyani, which he loved. Mine was pretty good, too. We had cheese and garlic naan, also pretty good. Overall, tough to go wrong here. Not stellar, but it's unlikely anyone would leave unhappy or hungry. There are many selections, vegetarian is a long list, but there's also seafood, as well as chicken/beef/goat/lamb combos, too. So far, Ajanta is my favorite Indian restaurant. The food, the service, and the set up are very nice and made me want to go back the next day. We went there for lunch and our waiter gave us the option to order the lunch portions or dinner portions. He said dinner portions are meant to serve 1.5 people. We asked for dinner portions of our entrees. I ordered the Lamb Do Piaza and my mom ordered the Chicken Vindaloo. For appetizers we got Keema Samosa and Garlic Naan. They give you 2 samosas with 2 different sauces. These samosas are about the size of a baseball with delicious beef and peas inside and a crispy crunchy pastry on the outside. The Garlic Naan was hard to put down and paired great with our entrees. Both the chicken and the lamb were tasty. My lamb was so tender and flavorful with the right amount of heat. The chicken and potatoes in the vindaloo tasted so good with it's tangy flavor. With our entrees, they gave us a bed of rice in a separate dish. Not only were the chicken and lamb delicious, but the rice stood well on it's own. So putting together the meat, sauces, naan, and rice together just brought the food up a notch. Our waiter was very nice, humorous, and informative on the different entrees they have. He was honest with us and told us that they were missing some staff and it may take him a little longer to check on us, but I thought he checked on us in perfect timing. And he gave us a big bottle of water when we need to refill our drinks.  Immediately after leaving, I wanted to come back for more, lol! The service was great. Ordered delivery. Lamb korma (spice level 4 out of 6), which comes with a side of rice. Also got garlic naan. First of all, I looove spicy. But I wanted to make sure I wasn't blowing up my palette if this place took spice level seriously. I've been to a lot of places where they cater to sensitive tolerance levels. I understand it, but I've been disappointed so many times. I most definitely was not! I honestly don't think I'd go any spicier than 4 here again. If you are sensitive or want just a tiny kick, stick with level 1 or 2. If you want your sinuses cleared out, I can only presume level 6 would do just that! The flavor was phenomenal. The lamb was tender, the korma was delicious, the rice was so fluffy and not at all bland, and the naan was soft, easy to tear, and tasted wonderful. Honestly, this is probably the best Indian food I've ever had. I cannot wait to try more dishes! 10/10 read more

1/14/23 I came here with my fiancé and his aunt for lunch. We were greeted and seated quickly. We ordered the special Thal spice level 3. They have spice levels from 1-6, we went with medium heat. It was a great choice, not too spicy for us. We got garlic naan too with it and it was so delicious! Highly recommend trying that with whatever dish you get. We also got the mixed platter appetizer before our food. His aunt ordered chicken tikki masala level 3 spice. They bring out a condiment trio platter of chutney, mint dip and a sweetened brown sauce. All of which are delicious but the tomato onion chutney is pretty spicy. I'd recommend to try some yogurt mixed with it and it helps calm the heat. Our food came out pretty quickly. My fiancé and I split the special thal as it was enough food for the both of us. **For checking in on Yelp, you can also save $4.99 so definitely take advantage of that special** Overall, the food was super delicious, my favorite was the goat and the chicken tender (literally the best fried chicken I've ever had, and I've had so many variations) I would most definitely return here again in the future. Ajanta is great! Wonderful service - all the employees are incredibly friendly and engaging giving the restaurant a cheerful vibe. Onto the food..The vegetable pakora appetizer is excellent and they bring you jars of the homemade sauces so you can have as much sauce as you'd like ;) Their Garlic Naan is the best in the area! Very Garlicky and perfect texture. Y'all...best Indian food I've had. I wasn't even going to get any food for real. I was passing through on a road trip, just stopping here quickly to see some friends who were getting lunch. There's lots of seating, booths and tables. My friends ordered two dishes and said I could have some. Y'all I had 3 more hours left on this drive and the food was so good I had to order some to take some with me. Don't worry I had an insulated bag so the food stayed warm. One of the things I love about this place is you can choose your spice level, 1-6. I got 4 and it was a really good amount of spice. Definitely doesn't overpower, the spice just complements the meal as it should. Butter chicken: 5/5. Honestly I'd give it a 6. The sauce on its own is drinkable omg. Soooo delicious. And it was real chicken (y'all know what I'm talking about), and a good meat to sauce ratio. Lamb curry: 4.5/5. Super tasty. The lamb could've been more tender, but the flavor was spot on. We had: Change Ki Chat. A appetizer that was a very different mix of spices, chickpeas, potatoes, cucumbers and yogurt. We both really liked it! Mushroom Mater - I ordered a 4 for heat. Best Indian food in the area! It would have been five stars, but my level 4 out of 6 spicy paneer makhani was not spicy at all we ordered level 2 for the other dishes and they were slightly spicier. A lot of Indian restaurants the creamier, orange foods like tikka masala and butter chicken end up tasting the same. Not here! The flavors were so distinct! We ordered tikka masala, makhani, and lamb saag. They were all really good. The lamb saag was one of the best I ever ate. It was creamy and delicious, even though it had more tomato than we are used to, the flavor was just perfect. The waiter suggested the aloo paratha. We normally order a variety of naan, so they was a change of pace. I really enjoyed it. My daughter picked the chef's special naan, the flavors were amazing! We also tried the ras malai for dessert. It seriously yummy. It's something I wanted to try at another location, but that ill fated meal ended up being a disaster and the ras malai was sold out. I'm glad it was though, since I'm sure that restaurant would have made it inedible. The only thing that was underwhelming here was the dal soup. Not a big deal since we don't generally go out and order soup. It was my son's choice. Next time he'll order tandoori chicken. Thankfully, he's not a picky eater, even at 9, he loved the main dishes and polished off the rest of the saag. The waiter was super friendly and helpful. The owner/cook came out to talk to us a little. I can't wait to go back and try something new. This is definitely a place to branch away from your "go to" dishes. read more

My order was packed very well. My drive home was 30 minutes and the food was still very hot in temperature. The veggie platter was a great introduction to their appetizers. My entree was Lamb Curry and it was very tender. I appreciated the thickness of the curry, bit it needed a little salt. The Butter Naan was a perfect match to tame spiciness of my Lamb Curry. This became our favorite Indian restaurant more than 18-year ago when we lived in Ohio. We have not been to Ajanta after moving to Minnesota 12-years ago so we were hoping for the same quality. This is hands down my favorite Indian spot in the entire Dayton area. Everything we have ordered has been just perfect. They have the normal staples of Tikka Masal and such, but my favorite dish is their Chicken Saag. It is so good with their rice, or just get an extra order of their Pepper Naan and dip it. I've done the sit in dining and they were very nice and attentive, but not over bearing to get you out. When I was stationed in the UK i have been to many Indian restaurants and Ajanta highly rates with them. Ambiance is very nice and restaurant is very clean. Ajanta has been an amazing find. The food is absolutely delicious. Perfect size for portions, reasonably priced. Comfortable seats, spacious dining area, which helps a lot, considering the constant traffic of people picking up carry out orders. The staff is amazing, friendly, accommodating, always smiling and always willing to explain the food selections to the customers. They always treat us like we are appreciated and welcome guests. Of course, we tend to be the type of guests who always smile, and say "please" and "thank you". The chai tea... I can't say enough about that chai tea! Truly the best. I've read some reviews here that don't do the place justice. My humble opinion is that there are so many variations to each recipe for just about anything, that chef preferences and twists should always be appreciated, even if it's not quite what the guest expected. That - in my humble opinion - is the point of visiting a restaurant: trying new versions of the food one loves. It very likely won't be identical to the one we visited in another neighborhood, city, or country. Dining out, in my humble opinion, is the experience of enjoying how a chef spins a recipe. Walked into Ajanta not knowing what to expect, was greeted with a backrooms-esque ambiance. The decoration wasn't my favorite but the environment was spectacularly clean and organized. Service was fast, but my partner and I felt a little tense, as though they may not associate with queer people, but that might just be us. Or our waiter was just really awkward. Wow! This place is fantastic! Definitely one of the most solid Indian buffers I've been to in a while. I feel like recently the ones I've visited have only offered spicy dishes, which doesn't work for my pregnant self. This place not only controlled the spice level, but also offered some dishes I've never tried before. Malai Kofta. What is that? I don't know, but you might as well try! It blew my socks off and ended up being my favorite dish! I looked up recipes once I got home and discovered that the cream sauce/gravy is usually comprised of cashews, tomatoes and onions. It didn't have meat or veggies in the sauce, it had balls made paneer and potato. Over all, this dish provided a new experience with the same satisfying Indian flavors I'd come to expect. I also really enjoyed the Saag Paneer, which actually did have the slightest kick of spice without being completely overwhelming. Other notable dishes included tandoori chicken, chicken curry, fried veggies and Kheer. I love this restaurant. The Ajanta team work great together and are super friendly. The food is on point every time. This is my favorite carry out and the staff makes the dining experience awesome. One of our favorite places to eat in Dayton and it's right around the block from us. Mostly we order take out and the dinner buffet and have not been disappointed. The buffet always had a great variety of meat and veg entrées. Their naan bread is the best around, try the garlic for a yummy upgrade from regular. We have been tracking in their takeout menu what we try and like or don't like. So far the only things we don't like are because they just aren't our thing and not because they are gross. I absolutely love Indian food and this is the closest one to my house. there curry bases are delicious and done right, but I find the lack Of traditional Indian dishes and the fact that they serve beef (a big taboo in most of India) (I'm missing some mutton and goat) and are a bit wanting on the traditional vegetarian dishes.
