The place promised Italian ingredients, and the tang of the tomatoes on my pizza suggested quality. Of course, quality tomatoes exist in the U.S. (it's an American plant), but I digress. My starter salad was substantial and full of flavor, and I was thrilled that their pizza specials actually matched up to my tastes for once. They like mushrooms, calabrian chili, and kale, and I got two of the above on my Vesuvius pizza. The style of pizza was more American though, given that it was drowning in cheese rather than dotted with a few blobs of fresh mozzarella. The residential-looking space had charm, with a framed document on the wall of the family's arrival as immigrants in New York a century ago. Plenty of people were working and there was no delay in service. Prices were significantly higher than what I'd read online, perhaps a sign of the times, but I certainly ended up stuffed; dessert was a no. Other than the typical caveats that classic Italian doesn't have much for those who avoid wheat and dairy, I couldn't ask a lot more from them. read more

Small family owned restaurant that packs great hospitality and flavor! For the app we had the meatball trio, which was good. The sauce and cheese accompanying the meatballs were very good. The meatballs seemed to be a little dry but still had some good flavor. For entrees we had pizza and shrimp scampi. The pizza was good but the crust seemed to be somewhat undercooked. This is the second time having the pizza here and the first time could've been the best pizza in town. The shrimp scampi was a special for the night. The scampi was very good and the sauce was great. La Famiglia is an excellent upscale option for dinner out, and is perfect for special occasions, impressing visitors, or anyone seeking excellent Italian food and a great selection of both beer and wine. I came here recently with a friend to give this place a try and it greatly exceeded my expectations. Richmond, VA spoiled me with its many excellent Italian restaurants, though La Famiglia is a true gem in an area without many options. I had a personal pizza on this occasion and got chicken Parmesan on a previous visit, with both proving to be delicious and well-portioned for the price. The wine list is extensive, and their Italian draft beer options are unique in the area; I had a Peroni, and I have yet to see that offered on draft anywhere else within 25 miles. While I did not partake in dessert, the menu was certainly appealing and if I hadn't been so full from the main course, I would definitely have availed myself of something from it! Seating is very intimate, with very little space in between tables, though the restaurant interior itself is appealing. The service is okay, though mostly unremarkable. Parking here is similarly tight, with no lot and only competitive street spots available. I recommend parking around the corner on the adjacent residential streets, long as you don't mind a four minute walk or so. I enjoyed my trip here and definitely plan to return in the future. Overall: 4.0 stars ----- Pros: - Excellent food and drink options. - Attractive interior, good for family events or dates. - Outdoor seating would be excellent on a spring evening. - Pricing is fair considering the quality of the fare offered. Date night for us, called the restaurant to make a reservation for Saturday at 7pm, arrived and seated promptly. Once inside and seated, my wife and I took in the unique home-feel atmosphere. We ordered the Caprese Platter, (it was amazing) and the caesar salad to start. My wife ordered the Chicken Rosa and I had the Lasagna both were good sized portions and delicious! Then for desert we had the Lemon Berry cake and a chocolate & regular cannoli. Our ticket was very reasonable for the amount of food we had (also bottle of wine). This is truly a wonderful restaurant took my wife out for her birthday dinner with her mom. We all had lasagna which was wonderful, wonderful wonderful, and the family salad with their. Citrus Italian and had a side other Cesar, both of which were just wonderful. That's one of my favorite things at this restaurant. The other thing I usually get the cannoli w their own home made filling but the waitress recommended their blueberry lemon cake which was just so well done so well balanced, the blueberry and the lemon did not overpower the cake truly magnificent cake. Our waitress I think her name was Shayla was also very very helpful with the menu selection and recommendations. She did a wonderful job. I highly recommend this restaurant we're going to go again. We passed through Huntington on the way home from a road trip, and we stopped in after reading several glowing reviews. We had both pizza and pasta dishes and everything was delicious! The owner, Ralph, stopped by several tables to chat and was super friendly. You can tell he puts a lot of effort into finding high-quality ingredients and takes pride in his dishes. Excellent Italian food! Homemade pastas!! They had a grilled artichoke appetizer w/ olives that was tasty! We also shared the meatball appetizer. I got the pasta navona, my friends got the Italian sausage app for his meal, the alfredo-like pasta dish, and the pasta roma. We also split a peach cobbler with vanilla gelato, for dessert. Everybody was very happy with their dishes. We live in charleston and usually go to Fazios or Sohos for our Italian fix..... Roccos is another one we like. But I really enjoyed our meal at La Famiglia. The restaurant is in an old house, with a 2nd floor and outdoor eating area, when the weather is nice. Highly recommend this restaurant. We went on a Saturday night around 700 pm, with a party of 4. We were lucky to get a table. Reservations are available. They also have pizzas.... which looked delicious also. I've been to Mulberry Street Meatball Company + Deli because one of my previous preceptors loved food as much as I did, and introduced me to the place. This is their actual restaurant! This place is a little on the pricier end of the spectrum, but the food is oh so good!! I came here with my friend about a week ago to celebrate my birthday and early-celebrate his birthday. We started off with the caprese salad--I'll preface that caprese salad is probably one of my favorite salads ever, so I may be a bit biased, but it was amazing. Basil leaves, tomato slices, homemade mozzarella, with diced tomato, onion and garlic. :]! (I think I should just let the pictures speak for themselves...) I ordered the Mulberry Street pizza, and my friend got the Raphael. They were super flavorful, and we finished off the meal with homemade pistachio gelato over chocolate chip cookie s'mores. I'm making myself hungry again just thinking about this. *-* Service was friendly and attentive, and I love the way they describe food! We actually weren't going to order dessert at first, but my friend saw the way my eyes glazed over in a happy-coma, so it happened. We had an awesome time! Last night, I went to eat here with my family. When I went in to ask for a table, I was clearly told, "3 to 4 minutes as we just need to set a table." I said thank you and then went outside to wait. We were waiting for a while so I went back in to talk to the hostess to find out when our table would be ready. A couple had come in and asked for a table in front of me and the couple stated they had no reservation. The couple was then seated immediately at a 4 top table. I then asked the hostess when we were going to be seated. The hostess did not recall who I was and had not written my name on the list and when I reminded her that she said 3 to 4 minutes, I was then told "oh, I meant 45 minutes." I then asked to speak to a manager who was totally rude and just told me, "she told you 45 minutes." After some back and forth in the restaurant, the manager was able to find a 4 top table for us. Having be treated so poorly, I could not in good conscience give this restaurant my money. So, I took my family to a great meal at Christopher Eats, where they gave us great service and great food. So, I was happy to give them my $200.00 check. I truly felt that La Famiglia discriminated against me and my family, as it was noticeable that we would have been the only diners with younger children dinning. Wow. We were looking for authentic Italian, and boy did we find it! Our family and two friends, eight of us total, made a reservation to eat at 5:30. We were promptly seated in a beautiful room upstairs. The smell of freshly baked bread and sauce filled the air as we waited, anticipating the food. We were given mixed reviews by a few locals, so we weren't sure what to expect. Our waitress took the drink orders and we asked for two meatball appetizers and the caprese salad. True to the Italian style, the large meatballs were topped with cheese, sauce, and garnish. Delish. The Caprese was the real MVP. La Familia makes their mozzarella in house, and it did not disappoint any of us. (It was such a delicious start that we talked about it at the end of the meal as one of our favorites.) We ordered a nightly special with shrimp and cod, several spaghetti and meatballs, and the pollo Blanca. My personal favorite was the Blanca! Amazing sauce, unlike the traditional Alfredo. We found out that the marinara contained an allergen and the server immediately asked the kitchen to remake the meal without missing a beat. So impressed with the food, we ordered the cinnamon Stromboli for dessert. So, so tasty! We had an overwhelmingly positive experience and will return with our family when we visit again.
