Small gun shop, prices are higher than online (as is the nature of small shops). Staff can be hit and miss, some are knowledgeable and cool, others can come off as elitists. Nice selection of AR parts and accessories if you want to play with them before you buy. [edit:] They got their FFL back, and are selling firearms again. I had another "miss" experience with one of the staffers...maybe because there are too many people working in such a small cluttered shop or perhaps it's because I always go when they are eating...? I want to thank Scott, Al, and Mike for helping me and taking so much time with me. I needed a gun for protection and I plan to take lessons on how to use it. They listened to what I said and found me the perfect gun. They showed me the safe way to use it and told me all about the laws concerning guns. We have had break ins and my dining room window was smashed and I was so afraid. I am alone often and even with a security system it takes time for police to arrive. I am elderly and the gun I purchased was made in the US and has an excellent rating. They listened to me and helped me to find a gun I can control. I hope I never have to use it. I think their prices are fine. I think customer service is wonderful. I told them what I needed and why . I would go back. A+ from me. read more

I have done business with the Gun Exchange for over 6 years and they have been fair and knowledgeable with most of all of the transactions. The younger employees are very helpful and do not talk to you in a condescending manner or tone. The orders or work done are always done in a timely manner and customer service is always good even when they are very busy with other customers. read more

I went in today looking to pick up an ar-15 or 1911. There were about 6-ish employees talking to each other and were not interested in helping me. (and no, I dont dress like a gangster, or an idiot kid, just a regular guy) One guy finally came over and showed me a couple pistols out of the case, he was somewhat helpful. I then went to the other side of the store to have a look at their selection of ar-15s. The mall rat kid behind the counter had no interest whatsoever in helping me after asking several questions about the rifles. I think he was too busy playing angry birds on his cell phone since he didnt make eye contact with me once the whole time I was trying to converse with him. His responses were nothing more than "yes, no, probably" to anything I asked. The other employees were too busy talking amongst themselves to come and take over. Horrible customer service. My buddy and I drove to Sportsmen's Supply and I bought a kimber right on the spot. MUCH better store. This place has been here forever. The old guy who runs and owns the place can be crochity. The overall customer service can be hit or miss for some people but they are usually pretty freindly. I dont mind so much because I go in knowing what to expect. The place is pretty small but they have a pretty big firearm inventory. I feel like the place is an old dusty museum. The owners a hunter so there is lots of stuft animals hanging around. Parking and location are pretty good right off Almaden Expressway. read more

Getting the basics out of the way first. This place is poorly set up. They have all kinds of crap right in the middle of the store that really just takes up room. You are constantly asking people to move because it's dang near impossible to walk around in there. Kinda dingy and has a weird funk. I'm a newbie to guns and Mike definitely made me feel like one. I have never been embarrassed to ask questions about things I don't know. After all, that is the best way to learn. Not only was he acting like I was wasting his time, he really didn't even answer my questions. I asked him about the difference of a 5.56 round and a .308 round. He tells me "one is bigger than the other" then just stared at me. WTF! I finally decided on a used SIG P229. Got it for $560 which I thought was a great deal. I took the gun to the range and it WOULDN'T FIRE! So I brought it back in to have it checked out by their gunsmith. I was informed that the gunsmith only stops in once a week or every other week. I gave them the benefit of the doubt because it was the holiday season. 2 weeks later I finally got the gun back. The gunsmith informed me that there was so much oil and gunk built up in the firing pin assembly that it couldn't even move. I had put a down payment on a .270 rifle there at the same time I purchased the SIG. I canceled that order and asked for a refund. I was refunded all of my money I put down. However when Mike asked me why I wanted to cancel, I told him that I wasn't happy with the service I got. He then told me "well its not our fault the gun didn't work" If I were the owner of the store, I would make sure any gun I am buying from someone is fully functional before trying to sell it. Obviously selling their customers a "working" gun is not high on their list of priorities. Needless to say I will not be visiting Gun Exchange again. I recommend doing your research before coming here, because they probably wont help you if your a newbie. read more

Just did an FFL transfer here, was my first time. These guys made it so simple. California can be such a pain where nobody has a clue what's up because the law changes daily. These guys answered questions even my cop buddies didn't a clue about. The expertise and attention to detail was well worth spending a few extra bucks for the transfer. I'd highly recommended them. I live approximately 20 miles away from this location and called to ask if they had a certain part for my AR. They assured me that it was in stock and they had every part I'd need. I drove about 30 minutes to get there and found out when I got there that they didn't have it. All the inventory is disorganized and cluttered. I bought some small pins which were highly overpriced. The only reason I'm giving it 2 stars is because they have quite a bit of inventory and selection. read more

Just visited Gun Exchange after being away for probably 10-15 years and they seem to be well stocked being the current state of things. The sales people were attentive and knowledgeable. But please please clean up the place and remove all the excess clutter from the aisle areas. Thieves. I put a pistol on hold, lost my receipt and lost the $600+ dollars i had on the "hold" They lost the paperwork and didnt try to work it out with me. They never got back to me when they stated they would look it up in their "system". After being a repeat customer for 20 years I have seen the place go so far down hill. Well I've read some of the reviews and some of you are just haters. I shop at this store because of the professional and efficient help I get. I definitely get the help I need. Some people would misunderstand the owner because he is sometimes loud and its only because he is hard of hearing. But he is a great guy once you get to know him and get passed the hearing impairment. He is fair and honest. I picked up a stripped AR lower from them and the price was marked up a bit higher than I expected. I should have haggled and shopped around. I'd recommend you haggle on price when you go there, or alternatively shop around online or at other local spots before purchasing parts here. The staff is helpful if and when you get there attention (very busy) though they don't look friendly. Bottom Line - I'd go elsewhere for parts based on price, but it's nice to have a local place to walk-in and comparison shop (maybe they have deals occasionally?). read more

Complete idiots here. Had them place an order for a Smith & Wesson in January. They called me 3 months later when it came in; went to pick it up and they ordered the wrong gun. Ordered the correct model and waited another 4 months.. Nothing.. Went back today to get my deposit back, complete assholes about it. The owner is currently selling out, but I think to the employees, so things will probably not change. Ammo is way overpriced here too. read more
