I first met Dr Gupta two years ago. I had a pre-melanoma by my collarbone. It was a large incision almost 4 inches long. He was able to close the incision and also change it a little so it wasn't stressful on my neck. Last week Dr Gupta also did surgery for a basal cell on my nose and another basal cell between my eye and nose after my dermatologist did a Moz method on both. He is very confident in his work. And I trust him. He took the stitches out today and said everything looks really good. It will take a good eight months before my nose is all healed. For over 10 years, I have wanted breast augmentation surgery and I finally did it and could not be more satisfied with the results. I feel compelled to write a detailed review because reviews help us make decisions; it sure helped me know what I needed, what questions to ask, and about the doctor. I am also writing this review because so many of my friends want to proceed with this surgery as well, yet they have always been nervous about what to expect. I hope this helps you make the best decision for yourself! How did I find Dr. Gupta?: After moving to San Diego, CA I knew this was the time for me to get serious about breast augmentation so I used Yelp and Google to help me with my research. I spent about one week completing online searches and writing down specific questions for the three doctors I would eventually consult with. Dr. Gupta had many great reviews on Yelp. Being the investigator that I am, I reached out to past clients on Yelp to see if they were still satisfied with their results. Kindly some of them got back to me and said they were thrilled with the care and results they received from Dr. Gupta and his staff. What was my consultation like with Dr. Gupta? What is his office like?: I scheduled a consultation with his staff via email; his staff are excellent at responding via email and telephone. When I arrived to Dr. Gupta's office, there was plenty of parking outside. His office is located in an air conditioned building that has other medical offices throughout. There are several bathrooms throughout the facility; bathrooms were always clean when I had my appointments. Entering Dr. Gupta's office there is a relaxing waiting area where you will check in with the receptionists and fill out a brief medical history form. An assistant will bring you into a consultation room and provide you with a gown to change into; the gowns are PINK! The doctor will come in and review your medical history form with you, ask you some questions about preferences, and exam your breast area. Based off your medical history and your breast area, the doctor will share his thoughts with you; pros and cons. This is where I really appreciate Dr. Gupta and this is what made him stand out to me. Every other doctor I saw, did not thoroughly explain the risks and side-effects of the surgery. He did a very thorough exam and discussed every possible option with me. This really helped lessen my anxiety about the surgery and confirm that I was making the right choice in doctor. How did I pay for my surgery?: Make sure you have money for your surgery but if you are like me and want to pay your bill in increments, you have the option to use Care Credit and pay off your procedure within 6 months with no interest. Each person's surgery is going to be dependent on the procedure done, location, and other factors; therefore, I am not sharing my specific cost. Surgery Prep: Prior to surgery, you will have a "Pre-Op" meeting with Dr. Gupta. His assistant will email you a PDF document that you will want to review prior to your Pre-Op appointment which details everything from preparing the night before to aftercare. I read this thoroughly, and prepared questions for Dr. Gupta. A few days prior to my surgery, I met with Dr. Gupta to go over all the paperwork and try on different size implants. This is the fun part! He will recommend you bring two shirts with you to see how the implants look on you with your own style of clothing on. I went into this appointment thinking I wanted to go from a 32A (32 band size, A cup size) to a full B. Well, I was wrong... a B looked small on me! I ended up going with a full D which was proportional to my body. I did not want too look to large or be the center of attention because my boobs were too big for my stature. Getting to the lingo that plastic surgeons use here is a cheat sheet: -CC; this is the size of the implant -smooth or textured; this is the outside of the implant -saline or silicone; this is what the implant will be made of -under the muscle or over the muscle; this is where the implant will sit -insertion sight; the doctor will discuss what is best for your body In my case, I went for 440CC, smooth silicone under the muscle and inserted under my areola. You will discuss all of this information plus your questions at the Pre-Op appointment. You will also be given prescriptions that you should have filled prior to your surgery day. Prescriptions could be pain medication, antibiotics, and anti-nausea medication. Night Before Surgery: There will be special instructions provided to you by Dr. Gupta to prepare. Some of these preparations will be: have clean sheets on your bed, have a clean pair of loose fitting clothing to wear after the operation, shower the night before and morning of with a special soap (can be purchased OTC at any drug store). It has taken me a lot of time to write this review but after I had an additional surgery to correct Dr Guptas botch job and realize how he violated me, I felt I would be doing others a disservice by not sharing my experience with Dr Gupta. ( Be aware, he will typically comment on negative posts claiming one was not a client in his "records") Absolute pervert. This man shouldn't be practicing. After spending over $9,000 on a breast augmentation and being so mortified of the results. I went in several times to point out his mistakes. The only thing he did was smile, roll his chair up between my legs and demonstrated how I should be "massaging" my breasts. That it was my fault. He would massage them so hard, my eyes would tear up. He just looked in my eyes (knowing he was hurting me and making me very uncomfortable of course with nobody else in the room, very abnormal) Disgusting and a big mistake going to a doctor like this. Not only for the botched job I received but how I felt completely violated by how he touched me. It got to the point where I almost hired an attorney. After I was diagnosed with breast cancer Dr. Gupta was my reconstruction surgeon. I couldn't have asked for a better Dr. or a better staff! When I had an emergency I was able to call Dr.Gupta directly and even though I woke him up he was awesome! I had left a message on the office voice mail and Sarah called me right back. Dr. Gupta called me the next morning on a Saturday to check up on me and made sure I had an appointment to see him. He was so easy to talk to and actually answered my questions so I could understand them. He's done great work so far and I'm looking forward to the final outcome. I definitely do NOT recommend Dr Gupta. He completely botched my lower eyelid surgery by taking out too much tissue, giving me not only constant watery eyes, but an extremely unattractive result where it looked like my eyes were bulging out of my head! After living with this embarrassing result for a year, avoiding friends and family and having to constantly wear big, dark sunglasses, I finally had to pay a different doctor $16k to fix his work and start living a normal life again. I wrote a letter to Dr. Gupta well before writing this review which he never acknowledged, so all I can say is patient beware. This terrible incident happened 1 1/2 years ago. I was scheduled with Dr. Gupta for reconstructive surgery the morning after Mohs surgery on my nose. The time between the Mohs and the reconstructive surgery is critical because once the bacteria starts to grow, the surgeon's options are limited. I had met with Dr. Gupta weeks earlier to see what technique he might use if the cancer was very deep and if a forehead flap might be in order (I wanted to know how to prepare for that). He barely looked at me and simply said he would have to wait until the day of surgery. After a traumatic Mohs surgery that removed the left tip of my nose and part of my nostril, my friend took me to Gupta's surgical building the next morning where, having fasted, EKG'd, and blood-tested, I expected to be put out and wake up all fixed. Instead, he coldly sat me in a chair where he seemed to look at me for the very first time, made me look at the hole in my nose (against my protest; I didn't want to faint), and gave me three choices. The choices were doom, doom and gloom, and finally, to simply do nothing and let it heal on its own. (Each procedure he mentioned came with awful scars and consequences, in other words.) And he did not want to allow my girlfriend in the room to help me figure it out. I asked him what he would do, and he said he would do nothing. Given the doctor's inhumane approach, I wisely chose to have him do nothing, (he seemed relieved). I then returned to the Mohs surgeon's office where the horrified staff removed the tiny bandage Gupta put on my gaping wound and properly dressed it. The next day my wound bled profusely, and the day after, I had to have emergency surgery in which another surgeon patched my nose with a graft. I've lived with a deformity until I recently had an accomplished surgeon do scar revision surgery; he returned my nose and nostril to its former cuteness.. I hope I can save someone from trauma-by-Gupta by publishing this incident. read more

I was fortunate to have a referral for Dr. Gupta to be the Plastic Surgeon for my breast reconstruction post double mastectomy. Dr. Gupta is pleasant and knowledgeable in his field. He made me feel at ease at the consultation and helped me move forward with the double mastectomy with reconstruction procedure. He explained my options and gave his recommendations that were best for me. He explained the reconstruction process and everything that would be involved. From the removal of the breast tissue to the placement of the expanders. He is patient and answered all of the questions and concerns I had even sometimes via email. I also wanted to mention that his staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. The main thing for me was Paulette who was wonderful with handling all of my insurance paperwork. I was referred by a friend last summer, who recently had her breast augmentation done by Dr. Gupta, to check this place out since I loved how her new boobs looked. Due to a Scripps doctor who punctured my right implant during a botched biopsy, I made a decision to remove both my implants rather than replace them. I was happy that Dr. Gupta respected my decision to do this as another plastic surgeon made it clear to me that that was the wrong thing to do. The surgery and his work went well and I have not regretted my decision. After the surgery, I had to have drains and I've experienced this twice after a mastectomy and related surgery. At some point, I noticed a foul smell and was concerned as I never experienced this my other two times. At one of my post-op appts, I asked Dr. Gupta if he thought I had an infection. He just felt my forehead and told me that I was fine. Over the next 2 days my breast area started hurting when I came back from an event over the weekend where I was in much pain, I couldn't even drive back. The next morning,Monday, my tiny breast was blown up to like a "D" and I was feverish. I called the doctor's office and they told me that he was in Canada! Later he called and told me to go to the ER, which was a wise recommendation. I ended up staying at Scripps La Jolla for a whole week due to 3 infections! So I had the beginnings of an infection when I saw Dr. Gupta and after this experience and now that I've taken care of my dad who also had drains, I know that a foul smell is an indication of an infection; by the time you have a fever, the infection has really increased. He should have known better and if he had advised me to go to the ER earlier or changed my drains, this whole traumatic and expensive experience could have been avoided.
