My wife and I were looking for a place to eat around our hotel in Longmont. (We are here to see Rocky Mountain National Park.) We shun the usual chain restaurants whenever possible to patronize the local businesses. On Yelp we found Ghurkas Restaurant. It's tricky to find if you trust the direction finder in Yelp. You will find it right next to the Texas Roadhouse. Dibs was our waiter (and possibly the owner), very attentive and helpful in explaining the dishes. My wife had the fried rice special with lamb, spice level 3 (8/10). I had the tandoori chicken, spice level 3 (9/10). Good sized portions: my wife shared her rice, and I have her one of my three chicken legs. We sat inside, but there is outdoor seating. (See pics.) Parking is easy. read more

This used to be our go-to place but the last few times we've ordered online, we've gotten very little for our money. Tandoori shrimp contained 6 small shrimp among a ton of onions and peppers. Lamb vindaloo was mostly onions and potatoes with just a few pieces of lamb. Butter chicken--which on the website appears to be pieces of chicken breast in curry sauce--arrived with a couple of small whole chicken legs in it? It looks like they took leftover tandoori chicken and dumped it in the sauce instead of making it properly. For the price, this isn't really acceptable at all. We'll be going back to Tiffin's for our Indian food. read more

Ghurkas has been our go-to local Indian spot for a few years. We've loved their food for dining in and take-out. The personnel are always very friendly and hospitable. When dining in, we typically enjoy an Indian beer. While they offer many Nepalese choices, we usually crave and order the Indian dishes. Some of our favorites are the vegetarian options - veg samosas, aaloo gobi, bhindi masala, saag paneer, and chana masala. We have also had lamb vindaloo, chicken tikka masala, and seek kabob. The meals are always accompanied by fresh cooked jasmine rice. You must order both the garlic naan and onion kulcha to eat with your meal! The owner was present and served our family. He was so nice, helped us with orders and checked back three times that all was well. He warned us that the dishes would all be spicier than most Indian meals, so counseled carefully how spicy we wanted our meals. The chickpea curry with samosa, lamb curry and goat curry were all excellent and definitely the spices were different from Indian restaurants. The naan were unquestionably the best I have ever had! This place is so good I went two days in a row! The first day I got a delicious sautéed chili momo dish which was unlike anything I've had before (I got the pork) and the masala chow chow which was soooo good. The next day I got the goat curry which was excellent and we also got the butter chicken and garlic cheese naan ($1 up-charge). They also have a local beer for only $3 a can, love it here!!! The staff is super nice and gives you great suggestions and the ambiance is super relaxed and casual. Disappointed in Gurkhas when they have been traditionally good. Samosa was good big and tasty. Naan was fine but the lamb vindaloo, the star of the meal, had the consistency of a broth, not thick and full of spices as I expected. Super weak. Go for Flavor of India instead for the extra cost. Had a hankering for Indian food, so I decided to try this place out. I'm new in town, so I'm exploring all the different places here and happy I landed in this. I called for delivery and it arrived in about 50 minutes. I ordered what I would call is "the hits." Because I hadn't eaten Indian food in so long, I went a little crazy. I started with Garlic naan was average. Chicken tikka marsala was great. I did the medium, which wasn't too spicy, but I think I would have enjoyed the mild to medium better. Saag Paneer was average, but tasted better on the 2nd day. Pork momos were good, but I wish they came with a dipping sauce. Samosas were also very good. And lastly, I had a mango lassi, because how could you not. I definitely want to come back and try more adventurous items. This place is so excellent!! The service is friendly and well paced (not crazy fast but certainly not slow), the dishes we've had here are so excellent and unique! We live in nyc and have tried dishes totally new to us here, we got the momo's in chili sauce and I don't even love pork (although you can get chicken or vegetable) and had to go in for seconds! Then I got the stir fried rice noodles in masala sauce and those were AMAZING!! The dish was cooked perfectly, the sauce was flavorful, it was a huge portion, just excellent! I got a level 2 spice which was perfect for me, I say I can do spice pretty well but don't like to be sweating, my date has a higher tolerance and got the 3, I could have a few bites of the 3 but not a full meal, he thought it was perfect. What a nice surprise in the Longmont area. At first I thought I was going to be stuck with a chain restaurant dinner but I stumbled across this place. Delicious!!! If you haven't been here yet you must go! I'm a huge fan of Nepalese/Indian cuisine and this place hit the spot! My husband and I happend to be in longmont co and I was craaaaving Indian food so when we looked on yelp we found this place and I was so so happy! The portions are good size, the flavors were out of this world!! The service was wonderful and though it's a small place they do have outside patio seating! The only possible down side to this place is it wasn't exactly budget friendly but that's most Indian restaurants it was roughly $40-$45 for my husband and I but we did get 2 entries, 2 different kinds of naan and 2 sodas and we had enough left over to take home for another meal so it was worth it to me and I don't even care the amount of flavor this place delivered is worth the price!! If you love indian cuisine you really must try this place!! I can't wait to go back! If I lived closer to them I'd have been back many times already! read more

Came here at 11:30 AM for lunch on a Monday. There was one other party there. The server was friendly and attentive and recommended the chili momo (which I got), tikka masala, and the baigun varta veg bowl. The food took a little time but not too long and I knew it was made to order soooo fresh. I got the chili momo with chicken but I think they wrote it down wrong as pork and offered to correct it but I was fine with pork! It was piping hot, delicious, and I was full after 7 momos but there was 10. They were yummy dumplings, so well spiced that the onions and peppers that came with it in the sauce were equally flavorful. I got it medium spice and that was perfect as I'm someone that can handle spice as a flavoring but don't like to be hurt by it haha. Next time I would try the jhol momo which looks a little creamier (I def wanna come back as this was my first time). I also tried the chicken tandoori which looked super well cooked and spiced. The person I was with got it spicy and phew it was spicy but good. The garlic naan portion size was nice and big and it was fresh, flavorful, and perfectly crispy on the sides but chewy to eat. I do wish there was more garlic but it was well oiled. This was my first time here and I def wanna be back!! read more

Delicious food and warm, welcoming service! This review is primarily for a large take-out order. For my birthday I decided I wanted an Indian feast, and we contacted Gurkhas for help. They came through with an amazing feast, on time and perfectly correct! We placed the order a day ahead of time, requesting four appetizers, sixteen main dishes, and nine different breads. We specified varying spice levels for each dish. I was a bit worried when I realized our pickup time of 5pm was when the restaurant was supposed to open. But I called, and they were already working on it around 4:15pm. When my friends arrived at 5 everything was ready to go, packed up nicely, and organized. As a bonus they use mostly compostable takeout containers for the rice & curries. Everything we ordered was fantastic! The standouts were the momos (a Tibetan favorite), the paneer zalfrezi (way better than tikka masala) and the malai kofta (I think of this as the Indian version of mac n cheese - comfort carbs!). The aloo paratha (potato-stuffed fried bread) was also quite popular. I adore Indian food, having grown up with it as a special treat, and having traveled extensively in India in my 20s. When I lived in the San Francisco area, I took it as my personal mission to seek out the best Indian food around. Gurkhas is right up there with the best of the best. Especially if you go for some of the less common dishes, like the zalfrezi and the Tibetan items. I am so grateful to have such a delicious Indian restaurant close to home! It's certainly not 100% authentic Indian - it's Americanized like 95% of the Indian food out there - but it's delicious. If you're craving a good creamy tikka or a good spicy curry, with wonderfully friendly and helpful service, look no further! read more

Really good for takeout. Menu looks so good that I wanted to try everything. I ended getting aloo gobi and the chili momos. Both were delicious. I'm okay with spicy food and level 3 was just fine for me. If I was less accustomed to heat, then I imagine a 1 or 2 would be fine. The scale is zero to 5. I will definitely be back to get something entirely new. Oh and the counter service was staffed by a great guy who was very patient with my many questions about various dishes. read more

Excellent staff, owners - very friendly and helpful. Momos were really good. I particularly prefer the spicy momos with lamb or chicken. Some interesting dishes you'd find that you won't find in other restaurants include the paneer cheese but with soy sauce. If you're not into spicy, order the mild or mild/medium. The korma perhaps was a bit more ordinary than the other dishes. Naan breads were solid, especially the garlic naan. All in all amazing! Worth a try. read more

We were hungry and wanted to avoid Fort Collins because the New West Fest was going on and that draws in a lot of people, so we knew traffic and parking would be crazy and restaurants would be extra busy. We decided to check out Guhrkas. One of hubby's favorite things in the world is a good samosa, so we decided to start by sharing a Samosa Chat appetizer and it was presented beautifully. The sliced samosa is drizzled with mint chutney, yogurt and tamarind chutney. The samosa was hearty, savory, flaky and delicious and the chutneys and yogurt added another depth of flavor with just the right amount of sweet, tangy and bitter flavor profiles. Hubby ordered the Chilli Momos with a medium heat level and I ordered the Chow Chow Masala with Tofu with a medium heat level. We shared our entrees and both were absolutely delicious and the heat level was perfect for what we were in the mood for and had a nice bite without overpowering the dish! The Chilli Momos were really good. The filling was savory, and the momos were served with nice chunks of onion and bell pepper which gave the dish a hearty feel. The Chow chow with Tofu was delicious as well. The tofu, noodles and vegetables gave it a hearty, rustic feel and the masala gave it a tangy, smoky, spicy, slightly sweet flavor. We also had an order of Butter Naan and that was super good too! Hot, flaky, buttery and chewy - obviously freshly made to order The servings were generous and service was good. We were very happy with our meal and will definitely be adding Guhrkas into our list of favorite restaurants. read more

Gurkhas has a generous and wonderful birthday gift. $25 for appetizer, entree and dessert. This was only good for eat-in, so I did. The food was excellent, although, a bit slow in coming. It looked like they were doing a brisk take-out business, and I believe that's what held it up. But, the food was worth the wait, and the music playing was pleasant and relaxing. Alright, I have been to Longmont a few times and now that I ate at this place i am wondering why did I not eat here the last time, even though I was staying a stones throw away! Gurkha's is an excellent Nepali & Indian cuisine restaurant. The ambience is very modern and the place is very upmarket and yet affordable. The food is excellent. I ordered a relatively safety dish from the menu. Chicken tikka masala with naan. Everything was spot on. The chicken tikka masala was properly grilled before being put in its gravy. A lot of cheap places just put boiled chicken instead. But they did it the proper way. Well, almost proper way i think. Traditionally the roasting of the chicken is done in a tandoor ( wood/charcoal fired clay oven ). But I suspect they might have just done this over a regular grill, since i could not make out the smokiness from the tandoor. The entree also came with a complimentary side of rice I promise, the next time I visit, I will try something more traditional Nepaleese and keep this review updated! read more
