I'm assuming this is due to shrinkflation of our current economy. Our meal was $50 for two people, which again would have been fine if we received regular-sized portions. I was psyched to make it in for lunch with thoughts of delicious Indian buffet running through my mind all dang morning. Sadly while the buffet was no more, an indulgent lunch menu awaited (though it did take some initial convincing from my lunch companion as I was ready to walk out as my had been absolutely set on a buffet). My first visit was just ok (the neighboring table was having a pretty loud weird convo & I was in a rush to get back to work). Overall the service was fast and the prices were right. I've been in a couple times since (ordering only vegetarian dishes, with korma being my fave) & am elated to share that this restaurant isn't afraid to go all out hot upon request (I've had some issues at other local Indian restaurants as they don't like to meet me in the middle on this one.) The head chef Manny even came out to our table before making our food as he wanted to ensure we were really sure we wanted to kick up the with our dishes. We gave him the green light and never turned back. Our dishes were beyond great. And what would you know Manny came back round after we'd had a chance to dig in to see what we thought and to treat us to his favorite dessert (gulab James). So nice! Wow! Best Indian lunch we've had for a while! The lunch portions come with some Pakora, rice, daal, salad, and a choice of many curry dishes. We added a naan, and it was a perfect portion for lunch! I have walked past here many times. I have been meaning to go in. Wish I had when I first thought to do so. My husband and I ventured there tonight. Nice casual atmosphere. We wanted to try something from the Nepalese side of the menu since we can get Indian in lots of places. I went with the Chow Chow Masala and my husband went with the Chicken Chilli. I went max spice and my husband went with "Western Hemisphere Spicy". Both were sufficiently spicy and delicious. The naan selection was nice as well. The server was a lot of fun and we enjoyed talking to her. We learned it is a totally family run operation and everyone in there was fantastic. We got our food quickly and I can't find a single thing to ding them on. I think it is my favorite for this type of cuisine in Northern Colorado. We will be back. read more

This restaurant is literally one of the best in Longmont. The servers are always kind, they have outdoor seating, and the food? Holy moly, the food is exquisite! It's tasty, and well made, and always of the highest quality. I've had a few different dishes, and they're all really, really good! My favorite is the Coconut Curry Salmon. The flavor makes me swoon, it so good. I also love the Saag dishes, and the mango Lassi is to die for!! Do yourself a favor-- go there! read more

A cheerful group of Yelp people were treated to lunch at Gurkhas Restaurant today by the Boulder College of Massage Therapy as part of our wonderful tour. We all ordered the lunch buffet. If you know me you realize this is not the first, nor will it be the last Indian lunch buffet that I experience & review. I like this restaurant. It was my second time here, today. The buffet has improved very much since my first time here, which was months ago. I loved the Dal (Indian lentil soup), all of the Chutneys, the Papadams, and especially the Saag Paneer (spinach in cream sauce with Indian cheese cubes). The cold chai was refreshing too. The atmosphere is pleasant. The restaurant staff took a laissez-faire approach and left us to have our conversation without much intervention, which seemed to work out well. We had a late lunch and most of the lunch crowd had already left, but I imagine the techies who work at the multitudes of techie type places in Gunbarrel really enjoy this place. I would definitely return to Gurkhas. The mix of anise seeds and other neat stuff that are in a bowl near the exit of most Indian restaurants were offered here too, and I grabbed a little bit on the way out. Well, I believe I may have a new favorite restaurant in Gurkas. The wife and I were looking for something new, and wanted to avoid Fort Collins for once. Since Greeley is a restaurant wasteland, we decided to drive down to Longmont, and we're glad we did! We ordered the Samosa Chat to begin, and it arrived soon enough and was presented beautifully. They slice a large samosa into 6 pieces and drizzle it with mint chutney, yogurt and tamarind. The samosas were delicious (can't wait to just get an order of samosas!) and the sauces added a definite tang and flavor. I ordered the Chilli Momos and the wife had Chow Chow Masala. I don't think I could have been happier - we both shared our entrees and both were amazing! The momos were tasty and at a medium spice request had just enough bite. The filling was delicious, and the momos were served with chunks of bell pepper and onion - so good! The Chow chow with Tofu was satsifying and mildly spiced. I would order either entree again. Service was friendly and efficient, smiles all around. If you enjoy Indian/Himalayan/Nepalese food, you won't do any better than Gurkas! read more

I'm really torn about this review. I'm going to start by saying their customer service is impeccable. They also had really great appetizers (vegetable pakora) and super tasty dessert(Keer). Now to the negatives. They were a real letdown with their entrées. I got chicken vindaloo spicy. It was fair at best the sauce was too watery and the chicken had no flavor. My partner got Chana masala. It was almost inedible. It was also too watery in the flavors were not cohesive. Based entirely on LUNCH BUFFET. Saturday : Dec 26th 2009. We arrived there sometime around 12:30hrs. Limited range of food at the Buffet spread station. From what I saw on the Buffet, ate and tasted, the spread were : * Vegetable Samosa * Vegetable Pakora * Tandoori Chicken * Chicken Curry * Rice * Saag Paneer * Some vegetable dishes of some kind including Okra. * Vegetarian Noodles of some kind I did not even touch the dessert spread at all coz it looks "so sad". The waitstaff, gave us a couple of Naan in a small basket. Beverage: I opt for Mango Lassi and Hubs order Coffee. The food is mediocre at best. We are not impressed at all. I so wish I could return perhaps to try the main menu but I need to convince Hubs. Above anything else, we are indeed disappointed. read more

We found this restaurant to be good by Longmont standards but it didn't quite measure up to our favorite Indian haunts in Fort Collins and Boulder. The restaurant welcomed us in to a clean and tidy, yet sparkly decorated, dining room. We were quickly greeted and offered a choice of several tables. The dining area wasn't noisy and you could enjoy a conversation without competing with the music and other tables. We started our meal with the Ghurka Sampler Appetizer. This was both my and my dining partners highlight of the meal. Each item was flavorful and the spices were balanced. Served very hot and fresh. Our main courses were somewhat lackluster. We ordered Chicken Tikka Masala. It had a pretty sweet undertone that overpowered the other flavors. My partner described the sauce as like "melted tomato ice cream." The Chicken component was excellent- roasted to perfection with a nice red char on the outside as it should be served. I ordered the Chili Chicken - a Nepalese dish- and found it to be a little flat on flavor. I ordered it hot as recommended, but again we found that the flavor profile was just the heat and the underlying sugary glaze on the meat and veggies. I will note that we loved the presentation and the fresh peppers in the dish that were lightly cooked to preserve the bright color and a little bit of crunch. The service was great. Our server was very friendly, courteous, and attentive to our needs. Where the food left us wanting, the service really stepped up. read more

It's not unusual for a restaurant to extend its menu. What's unusual is when one restaurant becomes two, which is what has effectively happened with Gurkhas in Gunbarrel. Already established as a reliable source for good Nepalese and Indian fare, Gurkhas has added what they call Brunch, which is a radical departure from the usual menu. Featuring various egg dishes, burgers, sandwiches, tacos, soups, salads, a kids' menus and "other stuff," it's virtually a restaurant within a restaurant. Being a regular visitor to their lunch buffet, I was curious enough to try a couple of the dishes from this new Brunch menu: the pesto omelette and the steak tacos. I have to admit that I hadn't encountered a pesto omelette before, but it sounded promising. Gurkhas' take on it features red onions, sautéed mushrooms, pesto of course, spinach, red pepper and oozy mozzarella. It's like a pizza wrapped in fluffy egg. (If they don't put a bit of their spicy red sauce they call salsa, plate side I'd request it.) It was more than a meal, very tasty and I'll have it again. (Why haven't I thought of this combo sooner?) My second trip for their Brunch was to try the steak tacos. I was overwhelmed by the full plate of four fully-loaded piles of goodness. Probably enough for two normal humans, I couldn't help myself and slowly devoured the entire dish. I'll be having these again too. All in all, for the maiden voyage of a brave departure from their proven norm - which remains fully available - Gurkhas is to be applauded for this bold move. read more

I thought the serving size seemed a bit on the small side, as I was hungry, couldn't finish the dish as there is more than meets the eye. Hands down the best Chicken Korma I have had anywhere.
