When I bought this car, it took them almost a MONTH to pay off my trade-in loan -- and that only happened after I filed a complaint with the CFPB. The only reason I went back was because I drive by it every day and figured it would be convenient. Big mistake. They had my car since Wednesday over a tire replacement and STILL couldn't get the correct tire. Horrible communication, rude staff, and management that was somehow worse than the employees. Yeah, I flipped out today. At a certain point people hit their limit when they're getting jerked around and treated like they don't matter. Deceptive, Predatory, and Absolutely Dishonest -- Stay Away This place is a scam operation in a shiny building. I inquired about a 2023 Porsche Macan listed for $44,974. Sounds good, right? Until they hit me with a quote that included over $4,200 in non-optional junk fees -- things like: * $1,499 for a "Nano Armor" ceramic coating * $864 for a GPS tracker * $1,895 for "prep and delivery"... on a used car None of this was disclosed up front. These are mandatory charges, and when I questioned them, the salesperson basically shrugged and said, "That's how we do it." This is blatant bait-and-switch -- they advertise a low price to get you in the door, then refuse to honor it unless you pay for inflated nonsense you didn't ask for. There are dozens of other reviews here and on Google saying the exact same thing -- same tactics, same salespeople by name, same dishonest game. They're counting on people not noticing until it's too late, or being too far along in the process to walk away. I came ready to write a check and still walked out. I've been a Volkswagen owner for years, but my recent experience has been extremely disappointing. My 2013 Jetta has now been at Gurnee Volkswagen for over 45 days, and there is still no estimated completion date for the repairs. Despite the lengthy delay and the fact that I am without a vehicle, I have not been offered a loaner or any form of transportation assistance. The lack of communication and accountability is frustrating, and I am now facing serious inconvenience and additional expenses. I understand the vehicle is out of warranty, but 6+ weeks without a car -- with no clear timeline and no support -- is not acceptable customer service. I'm reaching out publicly in hopes that Volkswagen of America and the dealership will take this issue seriously and help resolve it. I would appreciate a loaner vehicle or some form of compensation while my car is being repaired. Please do better for your customers. My experience at this dealership was by far the worst buying experience I've ever had. I strongly advise anyone to stay away from this place. It all started when I found a used vehicle online that seemed perfect--it had the right mileage, year, and price. After a test drive, I decided to proceed with the purchase. However, when the salesperson returned with the numbers, I was shocked. The price they quoted was nearly $8,000 more than what was listed online, and even higher than the vehicle's original MSRP when it was brand new. They had added a number of typical dealer upsells, such as nano-coating and a theft tracking system, which I declined. One of these upsells was a $2,500 fee supposedly for "getting the car ready to sell." When I asked for a breakdown of what this fee covered, I was given a vague list that included an oil change and fluid top-off--nothing that justified such a high cost. Moreover, this list didn't even appear to be specific to the vehicle I was buying. After an hour of back-and-forth negotiations, they reluctantly agreed to drop the fee by $1,000. I understand that dealerships need to make money, but I refused to pay for a "fix-up fee" that I was skeptical even happened. Throughout the process, the salesperson kept returning with hastily scribbled numbers on pieces of paper, pressuring me to agree to a deal on the spot. If I hadn't really liked the car and needed one urgently, I would have walked away many times. Eventually, I got the payment where I wanted and agreed to buy the car. But even then, there were more issues. When I finally met with the finance person to complete the purchase, I was handed a form to sign stating that I was buying the car "as is." This was standard, so I signed it. Only after that was I informed that the car only came with one key--something the salesperson should have mentioned earlier. The finance person then tried to upsell me on a $2,500 package, which he offered at a "special" price of $500, to include a new key. This felt like an incredibly sleazy tactic and left me feeling very frustrated. I declined the offer and finally finished the purchase. I thought the ordeal was over, but it wasn't. The next day, I discovered that the passenger side door wouldn't lock--something that should have been caught during their so-called $2,500 "fix-up." I bought the car on a Friday night, and by the time I realized the issue on Saturday, the dealership was closed. On Monday morning, before I could call them, my salesperson contacted me, asking me to bring the car back for an "update." I mentioned the door lock issue, and they assured me it would be addressed along with the update. I was scheduled to bring the car in at 9 a.m. the next day, but when I arrived, the service team had no record of my appointment. Apparently, the salesperson hadn't bothered to schedule it. Thankfully, they agreed to see me that day, but there were no notes about the supposed update. They informed me that there were a few other things that hadn't been fixed before the car was sold, further confirming my suspicion that the fix-up fee was just made up. After waiting a few hours, I was told they needed to order a part to fix the door, so I'd have to come back. A week later, I called the service center to check on the part, and they informed me that both the door lock and a new oil pan had arrived--new oil pan?? I don't think they would have notified me if I hadn't reached out first. The service team was polite and did eventually fix the issues, but the dealership's poor communication, both internally and with me, caused endless confusion and frustration. Overall, I cannot stress enough how much I do not recommend this dealership. The service department was okay, but the sales side was absolutely infuriating, sleazy, and filled with lies. Shocking experience with this dealer relating to a recall. Did the recall on my 2017 Golf GTi for the fuel suction pump. About a month later I start noticing a faint gasoline smell when parking but thought nothing of it. Start to notice the smell a bit more until middle of the next month when my car starts to leak gasoline down by the fuel tank and on to the road. The car was ~120 miles away on business and now unsafe to drive. Neither the garage or VW offered any assistance with recovery or any interim help whatsoever and given the cost to tow the vehicle home I had to consider my other options. In the end I get the car to the garage local to my work location - they call me the same day to say that they found the issue; the fuel line had not been reconnected properly and worked its way lose. Now given that the fuel line has to be removed for the recall and given I started to smell gasoline within a few weeks (and have never had any fuel issues with the car, only 55k miles) it seems pretty clear this is down the dealer. I get no response to phone calls (when they eventually answered they would never call me back). I sent the repair report from the other garage and follow-up emails, nothing. Eventually I go in and see the Service Manager (GM on vacation) and he's all smiles, no big deal, will message my GM and it should get taken care of next week. After another 2 weeks I lose my patience and report the issue to the Better Business Bureau. I get the same response twice basically saying you only reported this 3 months and 5000 miles later, these things happen on older cars, suck it up. They can't do anything else. The car could have gone up in flames with me in it ! All I wanted was the ~$500 I was out of pocket for 2 weeks of hire car and a train trip to get home, not any compensation for the huge inconvenience. I came with my own pre-approval letter specifying the bank I wanted to use, yet they disregarded my instructions and sent my information to multiple lenders. They also charged me over 11% in sales tax, which exceeds the legally allowable sales tax rates in Illinois. Additionally, they included add-on fees that were not disclosed on their website, which violates the Illinois Vehicle Advertising Regulations (Illinois Administrative Code Title 14, Section 475.590). August 10th we drove from Northwest Indiana to Gurnee Volkswagen to purchase a 2015 Audi Q5. They pulled bait and switch on us. Price online was listed somewhere around $12,500 but at the time of purchase turns out another approximate $2,000 was added for some "super inspection/maintenance check" they do on all used vehicles. Then for another $599 there was a "recovery device" charge in the event the vehicle was stolen they could track it. We were smart enough to argue and decline the "recovery device" charge and went ahead with the sale. The extra $2,000 seemed extreme for a maintenance check but thought it also meant we were leaving with a solid vehicle. Approximately 9/19 the vehicle began to sputter while driving and a message came on the dash alerting to "Turn vehicle off immediately" due to issue with oil pressure. Didn't drive the car for a week and on 9/27 had it towed to the Audi service center closest to us. After their inspection, the vehicle was found to be 3 quarts low on oil. We had only driven it approx. 1370 miles since purchase. They filled it back with oil and we thought our problem was solved. We continued to monitor the oil through the vehicle's menu and after the next 100 miles the oil appeared to be only half full. There was obviously a bigger problem going on. On 10/3 we called Gurnee Volkswagen wanting to see if there was anything they could do to help. We spoke with Billy Carrion (who is listed on the buyers guide as the person to call with complaints after sale), he said he'd have the General Manager, Gary, call us back. The next day on 10/4 received a call from the title clerk regarding paperwork for the title (which we still haven't received by the way). During that call asked if she could let Billy know that the general manager has not called us back. Over the next 2 weeks we called the dealership an additional 7 times. I could list out each time I called and what happened but between Billy, Paul, Kristina, Michelle, and another cashier whose name I did not get, none of them could answer any questions or connect me to apparently the only person who could help, General Manager Gary or whoever else is supposed to be at extension 290 or 950. I am not sure if General Manager Gary is a real person because as of the date of this review, 11/3/24, we have yet to hear back from him or anyone else that is at extension 290, 950 or any other extension where I left a message. I will shout out the Merrillville Audi service center & Adam. For not having purchased my vehicle from them he was incredibly helpful and took each of my calls when asking for help and suggestions on what to do. Appearing to be burning a quart of oil every 200-300 miles, the quote we received to repair totaled nearly $10,000. During one of my attempts for help through Gurnee Volkswagen I was transferred to service who asked if I wanted to schedule a service appointment. I told the guy we already took it into an Audi service center near us and was told what it would cost to fix, yet again, he told us the only person who could help was at extension 290. As we've settled on the fact we are never going to hear back from Gurnee Volkswagen to receive any help with this issue, we've contacted the BBB and IL Attorney General. We've also contacted a lawyer. Reviewing our paperwork it does appear our buyers guide was not filled out regarding a warranty, and it was not posted on the vehicle at time of purchase as it should have been. Still aware nothing will come of this; we deeply caution you from making any purchases from Gurnee Volkswagen. Im a returning customer to this group for the 3rd time this was the taste they left with us. Everyone knows we are a hard working family and never fuck anyone over. So here our experience. My son and I went and looked at a charger scat pack at the gurnee location. We arrived between by a salesperson which was awesome by the way. We gave our info and they brought the car up front so we can check it out and test drive. We got hyped up cause is sounded so nice. We opened the doors walked to the car stopped in our tracks. And automatically said naw we are good. It was beat to shit car for 34k. So since we were there my boy been talking about a Tesla also. The lot had 2. So our salesperson asked if we wanted to test drive it. He fell in love. We went back into the office began paperwork to purchase the Tesla. Well after 5 hours of negotiating price and our trade in we were able to bring the Tesla home. Nightmare 101. When buying a used Tesla make sure the car is unlocked from the previous owner so you can put the account in your name. This was not the case. The dealer sold him a locked Tesla, this mean through Tesla you can set up and account and supercharging can not be done. Many countless calls between the dealer and Tesla. Issued finally resolved after about 4 days. Then he gets a call saying he needs to come in. Finance is having issues with the loan. He needed a co-signer or more money down or 2-300 more a month payment. Unfortunately I did not like the finance manager's attitude so I decided not to co-sign. I did not trust him. So at this point no loan on the car. My son then went to a credit union got approved but not for the full amount. We had to give the car back and take our trade in back. All this is fine. Typical business and we were ok with that. The only bad taste was dealing with the locked out Tesla account. No big deal. Game over. Next. Unfortunately not the case. We also had 2000 down payment owed to us. They told my son they need to look over the car make sure no damage was done and they will refund the funds. Well after 20 days countless phone calls and emails and a Facebook review that I had to delete they finally gave him his deposit back. Still not over. When my son got his Chrysler 300 on his way home the check engine light came on. We thought maybe the cold caused a sensor to stick. Now that's it's warmed up it's still on. Well after scanning it and investigating we found 2 unclipped wire harness. Is this how you do people. I see your response to the bad reviews to call your office. Your staff will help us. Well we did. We tried. I can pull phone logs to prove it. I had to delete a negative review to get our refund back. I wonder how many other bad reviews people took down. I made an appointment for a recall on my 2024 Atlas (Infotainment software update, 91US) and to address a squeaking from a 2nd row seat. Checking in at 8:30am, I expected that this would take a couple of hours. Noon rolls around, no update except when I inquired and was told 1.5-2 more hours. I again, patiently waited. I requested an update after two hours and was told that the recall software update would not load to my car, the dealership then offered me a loaner (only after complaining). A loaner that should have been offered much sooner as nobody should be expected to wait at a dealership for a non-mechanical issue this long. The loaner was provided but it was non-operable, so I declined. The service department struggled to source another viable loaner, or make the quick repair needed to get me on the road. Went in to purchase and they refused to give KBB let alone the extra trade allowance. also refused to honor the additional 1,000 off per their own marketing email. Additionally they force you to purchase two worthless dealer addons; a $700 generic LoJack when genuine LoJack can be purchased for $130 retail and 2,000 paint and fabric protection. A spray on ceramic coating from autozone is $35. The vehicle I was interested in was leather appointed, which is naturally stain resistant and the carpet on the floor is black with rubber floor mats so a completely worthless add on. The vehicle shortage is over, and there are several VW dealerships in the Chicagoland areas. There's no reason to rewards these shady dealerships with your business. read more

It was later in the evening and by time I was half way home and needed to turn the lights on, I found out that I didn't have any lights. I bought a Atlas 2022 with a warranty. The first week I had a electrical issue that they spent 4 hours trying to fix and referred me to City Volkswagen of Chicago to finish the repair. What pissed me off is they sold me a used vehicle with after market brakes and now City Volkswagen said it's $600 to get new brake pads and they were not OEM brakes, cheap after market brakes. The sales representative was let go, who sold me the car after a month and the manager Gary Nudelman is not answering or returning my messages. They also sold me a car with 1 key and told me to wait a month and call Volkswagen telling them I lost it. The sales managers were shady.... Bottomline if they fix my brakes and right this wrong then I will take this down, otherwise you'll know they screwed me over on a newer car! We purchased a used 2022 Tacoma for our landscape business. At the time of purchase the tire pressure light was illuminated. We incorrectly assumed that we just needed to add some air to the tires (due to the colder weather) and all would be fine. However, once we purchased the vehicle, brought it back to our place of business, and added air to the tires, the light stayed on. I called our sales rep and left multiple messages for him, but he did not return our calls for weeks. When I was finally able to explain the situation, he said he would talk to the service department and get back to me, which he never did. In the meantime, I brought the Tacoma to a different Toyota dealership to take a look at the tires. They informed me that it was a faulty pressure sensor. Therefore, I attempted to reach my original sales rep again and ask them to please replace the faulty sensor. I assumed that they would never have purposefully sold me the car with a faulty sensor, and they would honorably replace it. After numerous attempts over multiple days to reach him, I finally decided to just explain the situation to the woman who answered the main number. She apologized for the confusion and said that she would speak to the service manager and get back to me. Again, nobody bothered to call me back. After waiting for days, I reached out to them again and spoke to the same woman who had promised to call me back. Thankfully, she remembered me and apologized. She again said that she would speak to the service manager and get back to me right away. To her credit she did call me back about 10 minutes later and told me that they can't do anything for me. Their stance is that they sell their used cars "as is". To say the least, I was completely in shock that they would not simply offer to replace a faulty sensor that they did not know existed when they sold me the car. I know that if they would have caught that on their own before they listed the vehicle for sale, they surely would have fixed it first. Instead of doing the right thing and replacing a sensor (which is a minimal thing), they decided to lose any future business from our company. Went in for an oil change after an hour and a half the car was done and I was super happy to be on my way. I turn on my car, immediately it starts making a weird engine noise, it shakes, and engine light is on. All issues that were not there before. I call servir and drive my car back in there. My issues is they expected me to not notice and drive off. To put it plain and simple Gurnee VW does not have well trained technicians, the management does not care about the customer, and they have no intentions of helping once they receive their money. I do not recommend servicing your vehicle with this dealership. Brought a vehicle in for service work, took the dealership 3 months to get the part in to get the vehicle fixed which is completely understandable that was not in their control. Service Manager said would make sure handled and would be in contact, no responses. However in having our vehicle for 3 months we were contacted maybe 3 times with no updates just information that while sitting on their lot, them jumping the car and what not that more damage had been done and they would need more money to fix things they did. When we finally were notified that the car was running and ready for pick up the car did not start at the time of arrival and needed to be jumped which then damaged an electrical panel. Vehicle was still not running correctly so got Gurnees work inspected by another dealer and was told the work we paid for was not even done correctly resulting in more damage to the vehicle. In attempt to get this resolved was told would be called back to get the vehicle in and have not heard from them, have tried calling again and been told can't leave a message. Have gotten VW involved just to get a simple service appointment set up and it has now been another almost 2 months without them setting up the appointment to look at the vehicle. read more

They do some amazing packages and modifications with vehicles here that you won't find in any other regional VW dealer. Custom wheels, wraps, etc.. They take these cars to the next level if that's what you're looking for. However, these are car salesman, make no mistake about it. If you go in expecting a cucumber water and a spa treatment you're going to get taken for a ride. If you walk in with a TrueCar printout expecting a hassle-free deal, this is not your place. On the other hand, if you know what you're doing and are prepared to close a deal that day, be upfront with the sales people on what you want and pay very close attention to the details, you can most likely get the deal you had in mind. That being said, -1 star for being the COVID-19 super-spreader dealer of Northeastern Illinois. These people do not give AF about COVID-19 at all, the CDC should consider setting up shop here to monitor for new mutations. Horrible accountability here at Gurnee Volkswagen. I bring my car in for a routine oil change, I have an appointment, arrive 10 minutes before it and wait in the lobby. Two hours go by and nothing, I don't hear anything about my car, really wondering what's taking so long. Shortly after Michael walks in to let me know that the oil change is done but that THEY got my key stuck in the ignition. I've never once had an issue turning my car on in the 7 years I've had it but somehow today of all days when someone else was handling my car, it broke. All would've been fine if they were accountable for their mistake but they proceeded to quote me for their mistake. We went back and forth and all they could offer up was an hour off the bill in labor. I will never be coming to this service center again, they do not care about their customers. read more

HORRIFIC large scale bait and switch waste of time on Black Friday 11/29/24. Because I really wanted to waste 2 hours of my Black Friday morning plus $3.00 in tolls and 1 hour travel time on this nonsense. Rohrman lost a potential customer for life over this! Black friday clearly stated 0% for $15,000 with excellent credit plus $7031 off MSRP... except after wasting 45 minutes of our time never even offering a test drive 1st or to look at the car up close and personal, runs credit check and comes back with numbers that was essentially not only stating we must pay MSRP but an additional $2000 on top for a mandatory 'protection package'. Covid times are over bud and its no wonder you aren't selling these new cars! I can't even begin to express my level of disappointment and anger over this waste of time and I was ready to buy today too! Then on google reviews providing a phone number to call to discuss only to be instantly hung up on 5 times I tried to call the number to 'discuss' my disappointment and anger over this. So they give this nice 'oh I'm so sorry, please call me directly' and the phone number is a scam of answer and immediately disconnect before you even get to say a word! ..just WOW! I should have never bothered with even trying to call clearly! read more
