Worst pastrami sandwich ever, salty as hell, a d greasy, and over cooked fries. Never again.

IMO, It was alright...the macaroni and potato salad are from Stater Bros.! I hate store bought product. The Mac and cheese sucked! And their beans? Nasty! They're Phily cheese and regular steak sandwiches were good. It cost me about $65 for a plate of baby back ribs, regular ribs, two sandwiches, and four drinks. This was to feed a family of four 1/2. Been some time I've been here. My son loves his chicken sandwich. But I must say this time around customer service really horrible. I ordered pastrami hamburger which comes with fries and a grilled Chile. She didn't tell me she was out of Chile's. Ok no big deal. It happens. Sons plate comes out he looks forward to his slice of pickle didn't come. At this point we just wanted to eat being we came from West Covina in traffic. Girl with lots of makeup who brought out food was rude as well. To top it off she gave us extra change that we returned was 15.00 too much. Should have kept the change for all our troubles. This place lost its touch. Used to come here often a few years back to watch the games on Sundays and drink beer. Decided to stop in today and ordered a tri tip sandwich. The meat was hard almost flavorless, to much bbq sauce, the fries where not fresh despite me being the only person in the establishment. 20$ ill never get back. Avoid it! read more

Ordered take-out thru Eat24 and it was ready right on time. My Boyfriend had the pastrami sandwich and said it was great and that the fries are bangin. I had an a la carte breast which was huge and had the wing attached, but was kinda really dry (even for white meat) and a little tough on some bites... I also had the mac n cheese a la carte which was pretty good but not amazing. I'll try a sandwich best time and update my review. read more

I've been to my share of BBQ but this wasn't quiet the quality I had hope for. Ambiance is great, worth the try due to the historical importance in the city and staying true to a deli like meat shop. However, the ribs fell right off the bone but seemed as if they it was just slabbed with bbq sauce. Sides were mediocre, I think my Mother does much better homemade or not it didn't have that home-quality feeling. The hotlink sandwich was great. I'd return just for that. Customer service was nice, I understand how they get their regulars in the neighborhood but not worth the outing. Price $7 to $32 depending on single combo or family packs. Menu is very miss leading. Dinner menu says you get bbq beans dinner roll and salad plus 1 other side, when I went back to tell them they forgot the salad they told me your second side took the place of tour salad??? 2 dinners for almost $40 is a bit much for what we got. read more

My hubby and I went in for lunch and everything smelled and looked delicious! I ordered the pulled chicken sandwich and he ordered a full rack of ribs. The meat was so tender and flavorful. Chill atmosphere and no rush hour drama. Loved it. Will definitely be our to go to bbq spot. read more

I am usually disappointed restaurant wise when I purchase a Groupon but this place was a pleasant surprise! Cool deli and restaurant combo with fresh meats and poultry (& crab legs too)! Owner was super friendly and cool, offered suggestions and the food was good! Baked beans were the best I can remember having in a rich bbq sauce with bacon and the mac n cheese was tasty without being too dry nor too creamy. Portions are big and I got a breast and drumstick. The only thing I'd change is offering boneless chicken breasts and marinating it in bbq sauce. Prices are very good too for what you get. read more

I have been here several times and every time but this last time I have ordered sandwiches, this time i got the baby back ribs and they were delicious. Fall off the bone delicious. My boyfriend and I come here often. We enjoy the food--they grill a MEAN steak (any kind). I usually have a turkey burger or chicken sandwich. They are pretty tasty but nothing out of this world. The reasons I gave this place 4 out of 5 stars are: 1. Their meat selection is great 2. Friendly service 3. Reasonable prices 4. Lots of parking 5. They sell beer BUT's: 1. BBQ Heaven! I grew up in Paramount, and I have always known this as The Meat Market. We never said Eastern Meats or now Gus' it still is The Meat Market. Not only do they serve up some delicious bbq, they also have a meat counter! You can get beef, sausage, buffalo and much more. I get my beef bones, for stock, here when they have them. I guess they sell out of them fairly quickly. If you are in the area, order a burger or some ribs, have a seat on the new patio and enjoy. read more

Where do I start? 1. The prices....expensive, BUT it would have been worth it had the food been equally as good. 2. I had a turkey sandwich. Added bacon and cheese, both for an extra charge. Fine. But not when the bacon just came out of the fridge ice cold. It came with a little tiny piece of cheese that didnt even fill the bread. The turkey had been sliced for a few days because it had that "sour" old deli meat taste. The bread was also pretty cold. The sandwich was a huge disappointment. The menu reads "piled high with freshly sliced turkey". Well I'm pretty sure subway puts more meat on their sandwiches. For $6.49, plus 55 cents for the bacon, and 45 cents for the cheese...I could have made a better sandwich at home. I would have done just that if I wasn't on lunch break looking for a good turkey sandwich. 3. I also got the chicken noodle "soup of the day". WAY TOO SALTY, and also contained one of the biggest pet peeves of mine: thigh meat in the soup. I don't want to pay nearly $5 bucks for noodles, dark meat chicken, and carrots in salt water. 4. My emt partner ordered the famed steak sandwich here. The steak was charred a little too much. The bread was cold just like the turkey sandwich, and the added bacon was the same frigid bacon as the turkey sandwich. It was supposed to come with fries, but the fries were overlooked and way too crispy. Plus, the waitress/food runner forgot them and we had to remind her to bring them. What a total disappoint amongst high expectations. I guess that why I have gotten so used to not expecting anything great before hand. I'll never come back, just based on my first experience. You can really tell when people who own food establishments cut corners, which Gus's has achieved fully. Low quality food for a high quality price. I hope anyone else who eats here has had a better experience. read more

The Michael Unit was itching to try this place since it switched from Eastern Meats so we trekked over on a Saturday. The smell inside is amazing. The cases are filled with a huge variety of meats, sausages, poultry, ribs - all things carnal. I ordered the pastrami, the MU ordered the bologna sandwich. WTF? A bologna sandwich? I don't know of any other place that offers a bologna sandwich on their menu, so I give them kudos for that nugget of uniqueness alone. We both ordered sides of macaroni salad before I realized that my pastrami was served with fries. The pastrami was okay. Nothing to complain about. Plenty of flat round pickles to add crunch to the sandwich. And the MU liked the bologna. It was also okay. Macaroni salad was standard so I added heaps of pepper and Tapatio to spice it up. Looking at the other reviews, we probably should have ordered something from the BBQ portion of the menu. Based on what we ordered I doubt if I'd make another jaunt to Paramount specifically to eat here, but might try it again if we're in the area and hungry. Driving through Paramount, we caught a whiff of that BBQ scent and had to make a U-turn and go back. This was an order at the counter and someone will bring it out to you kind of set up. The girl at the register suggested the Trip tip sandwich. So I ordered that and the husband ordered the hot link sandwich. Both sandwiches came with fries. The Tri Tip Sandwich was... the best evuh! The Hubby's hot link sandwich w/BBQ sauce instead of mustard was also fabulous. The place was clean and the workers were all really nice. I will definitely go back! read more

The meatloaf sandwich at this joint is In-credible, with a capital I and a hyphen. They also make a mean tri tip sandwich. If you're in the area and have a craving for a carnivore's lunch, this place should be on your list. For a long time, it was called Eastern Meats, but the owners renovated the place, took away the cover on the patio and added an outdoor barbeque grill that is going for most of the daylight hours. They still have outdoor seating on the patio that is adjacent to the street, and booth style seating indoors. The owner is a good guy and recognizes you after a few visits. This place also has a butcher shop attached to the restaurant that seems to be popular with many locals, but I haven't tried it yet. If you're a meat-lover, you need to go to this place for at least one lunch. read more

Always has been a go to but lately it seems to be loosing its mojo. I know its been cold but I pass by at least twice a week and the crowds have diminished. I have eaten there, ordered to go and brought fresh meat home for the BBQ. Has always been consistently good. The last two times I have been there it has been as a Meat market. The first of these visits was for a special occasion. The steaks were being cut when I was there and I purchased some nice ribeyes. A little expensive as three steaks costs almost $80 but they were good. A couple of days ago I went in for a couple of steaks. The meat cabinet was a third full and the choices were limited. What they had looked great but only ribeyes and sirloin steaks available. I was spoiled with many choices in the past and the limited selection discouraged my buy. I will try again but am worried that a local favorite is on the way out. I hope I am wrong! read more

Gus's Deli Bbq and Grill was a secret gem that I never even knew was there until my friend told me about it. Their BBQ here is freaken amazing! I came here to try out their food and was having a difficult time trying to figure out what I wanted to eat. So, I went on a Thursday and decided to try their BBQ pulled pork special. I love how they put their bun on the grill to make it warm and crisp and the pulled pork was warm and melt in your mouth. The fries just added to the meal and made it a great lunch. I just love how it the place is casual and friendly. The workers were really nice and had great recommendations for first timers just like I was. read more

Never had a bad meal here, and I've eaten here about a half dozen times now. Everything I order is delicious. Prices are reasonable and portions are just right (at least for me). Fries are retarded good. Trip tip, pulled chicken, french dip, and rib eye sandwich (still my favorite): All excellent. All devoured. Sports playing throughout the restaurant, beer on tap (by the pitcher too), and a butcher shop right in front of you. I plan on taking some steaks home with me one day.. I've been here a couple of times. They have a huge menu and everything looks and sounds amazing. They have sandwich specials, but the dinner plates aren't that much more money. If you get the BBQ chicken plate, they give you half a chicken! Yeah, that's a lot of chicken and it's so delicious! I ordered the pulled pork once, but I found it too crispy. However, it was drenched in their awesome BBQ sauce so I wasn't too disappointed. I like their coleslaw and potato salad and their beans have a nice smokey flavor. My first and last time coming here. I've been wanting to come try the food here. I drive by and see the meat grilling outside and the smell of BBQ smells so good. Disappointed!!!! We ordered the baby back rib dinner plate with fries & mac n cheese, and the pulled pork sandwich with fries. The ribs were dry, and over cooked. It seemed like they added extra BBQ sauce to cover the way it was cooked. The mac n cheese had no flavor at all and seemed like watery noodles. The fries were hard, like they recooked them. I was skeptical about coming in at first. In fact, my boyfriend literally DRAGGED me in the first time. Once I was inside, I was a little more comfortable because I noticed how clean it was and I love me a clean restaurant. I got distracted with all the different meats they had at the deli and was fascinated with all the options. When I saw the menu, everything looked delicious. I decided to go for the bbq ribs the first time, which were delicious. However , the second time I had a bbq pulled pork sandwich. I had never tried a pulled pork sandwich til that day. A-MA-ZING! Without a Groupon deal this place makes NO sense. It's in the middle of Paramount. They have Boar's Head meats which are ok. But not as good as any East Coast deli, or even Langer's/Canter's corned beef or The Hat pastrami. You really need to brace yourself against the counter when you see the prices on the menu!! They are NOT a two $$ location! Sandwiches and drinks for three of us and I paid over $65.00, and that was WITH a Groupon! Insane. They have a selection of beer on tap, but it's so expensive that the locals that frequent this place after work during the evenings only drink bottled beer!! Sad! read more

Stopped in for the 1st time today for lunch. Interesting place because they have a meat market and restaurant together. Nice place, clean and comfortable. I got the top sirloin steak with fries and a salad. Everything was very good. Hot and fresh. With an iced tea the bill was $15.00 which for the quality and amount of food seemed reasonable. Next time around I will try one of their sandwiches. The people that work there all seem very nice and funny. You could tell they have a lot of regulars because the woman behind the counter was calling people by name as they came in. Funny thing about this place, they had a smoker set up out front and the wood smell would draw in real bbq aficionados but I think it was just for affect most of the ribs seemed to be cooked and on a steam table same with the chicken but they both looked great. Overpriced and disappointing. Tri-tip tasted like tough sliced deli meat with store bought barbecue sauce slapped on top. Beans tasted like "pure" sugar. 2 sandwiches and fries = $30.00. Oh, BTW, free refill fountain drinks but after 1, the fountain was "out of order"!!!! Never to return. :( read more
