We went to have dinner at Ricci's Italian in Bellflower a little while ago. Nice house salad (9/10) with wonderful italian dressing (9/5/10) and vegetable minestrone soup with small pasta (8.5/10), which adults and kids enjoyed. Our entrees included Chicken parmigiana (8/10), veal parmigiana (7/10) , and bacon carbonara with shrimp (8/10), quite rich and creamy, but not goopy. All quite good. Nice that they have Peroni on tap, tasted fairly fresh (8/10). Veal cutlet portion felt a little undersized but chicken was hearty, and red sauce (both marinara and meat sauce) are deep red, slightly thick and pasty...not a light sauce. Service was friendly and attentive throughout our meal, except for the end (when we suffered a accidental water spill and had to mop it uo ourselves). Garlic bread (6/10) was pale and had no taste of garlic: just butter, salt and pepper. At least it tasted fresh and warm. We had spumoni (9/10) and tiramisu (6/10) for dessert. Enjoyed the spumoni but I would skip tiramisu when coming back: beautifully presented but all the art was on the plate, instead of in the flavor of the tiramisu. Ricci's has been around since 1944. But from the outside and inside, you wouldn't guess that. The building seems pretty modern, as well as the interior, a somewhat classic upscale vibe. I really want to like this place (I have a fondness for historic dining) and I look forward to coming back to try the sandwiches and the pizza, both of which look good. read more

Had a week left before expiration on a Groupon I purchased a couple of months ago so decided to use it today. Place was a little difficult to find as you blink an eye and miss it although it's right on Bellflower Blvd. Entrance is right on Bellflower as well, but it's a bit confusing cause where you enter it looks like you're entering a bar (plenty of tables outside) and there's a back covered patio with a set of double doors that appears is an entrance as well (it's not). We found parking behind the restaurant in a huge city lot for several other businesses as well. Aside from the long intro, we were greeted by a very friendly server and we were the only customers at 1st. I called before as the groupon stated reservations were required (they weren't, just recommended). We were seated promptly and I informed the server that we had a groupon, which was for 2 glasses of wine and two entrees (anything beyond is added on separately). We started with the caprese salad (18.00). It was good but only 5 pieces and IMO not worth the price. Our entrees came with soup or salad so I ordered a salad with Italian dressing and it was mostly just lettuce, but tasty nonetheless. BFF had the soup which was a cup of minestrone and he said it was ok. I ordered the canneloni which came with ground beef and cheese. It was the perfect sized portion as it was very tasty and rich. My friend ordered the chicken fettucini Alfredo and he said it was ok. All entrees came with a fresh basket of garlic bread, which was very good. We ended our meal with 2 orders of cannoli (17.00) as I assumed it would be 1 large cannoli each and it was 5 small presented very nicely. So I'll start with a disclaimer: I was here as part of a large party. We were seated on the back patio which had a lovely ambiance and a nice breeze blowing through. Did it take 20 minutes to get a glass of water? Yes, it did. Did the food come out quickly once we finally ordered? Yes, it did. Our table had a little bit of everything. Those who ordered calzones were very happy with the hearty portions. My neighbor who had the chicken Parmesan said it was tasty. My Italian sausage with peppers? It was basically a bowl of spaghetti with half a sliced sausage and maybe a quarter of a pepper sliced into it. To say it was disappointing is an understatement. If the menu says Italian sausage and peppers with spaghetti, I expect the sausage and peppers to be the main, not the spaghetti. Dessert was tasty but it was another long wait for the check. Our server was really warm, friendly, and attentive. We had 5 people, so we ordered some appetizers to keep the ha fries at bay. The fried calamari rings were disappointing as they were chewy, but the mozzarella was deeelish! Of course I checked Yelp for the popular dishes and that inspired me to order the Pasta A La Ricci. It was really good...but...it said it had artichoke hearts but I couldn't find any..I asked the server and he said it was mixed into the sauce. I was also a tad disappointed in the scallops...there were hardly any and they were super small. That being said-it was still super flavorful and I was excited to have my leftovers for lunchThe next day. (They don't skimp on portions) The garlic bread is outstanding!! I ordered a pepperoni and mushroom pizza through grub hub, and when it arrived I was astonished to see that there were a few slivered mushrooms strewn about. I am talking maybe 6 little thin slivered mushrooms, not even full thickness. I was so insulted that I paid $1.75 to add those. The pepperoni was also very sparsely added as if they were trying to save money by skimping on toppings. I paid extra for that as well. For the price, it should have been loaded with toppings. I took the leftover pasta home and just left most of sauce on my plate. Next time I will order a white sauce. My husband thought the lasagna was average, but he was still happy to take home the leftover for another meal. For dessert we had cannoli. It was too sweet for me, but I'm sure other people enjoy the flavor. While the food this trip was average, we are willing to make a repeat visit and not just because a friendly manager (owner?) gave us a 30% discount for the next visit due to the hard calamari breading. We paid $32 per person for a buffet style meal for 20 people, yet the portions were essentially child or appetizer size. Guests were given small plates and offered only ravioli, salad, fettuccine Alfredo, and pesto pasta. There was no protein included and only enough food to fill those small plates once. Everyone was still hungry, and we ultimately had to order pizzas to supplement the meal. To make matters worse, we were told we needed to pay even more because they miscalculated the total and failed to properly include tax and gratuity. Came during the summer concert the city was hosting on the block. We were seated quickly and had no wait time. They had seating inside and on the blocked off street which was great. We had a good view of the event going on around us. We waited about 10 mins to get the waiters attention but he was very apologetic for the wait and let us know that they are very busy. We ordered the fried calamari as an appetizer and the mushroom and chicken Alfredo ravioli with a side salad as our entrée. We received our fried calamari within five minutes and were disappointed as the calamari had some cold spots and not the same temperature throughout. The side salad was good, the waiter was great with accommodating us with a salad upgrade to be similar to a Caesar since he mentioned, they were too busy to toss and make a Caesar salad. This place has the best meat sauce I've ever had. I ordered the spinach ravioli it was very good. The cheese was a bit sharp but it went well with the sauce. I don't want to bash a struggling business; however, I will say I've never walked out without paying a bill, I've never been thrown out while walking out, Ive never had seen a restaurant cut your meal in half (according to their menu) for half of our party of 8, never seen a restaurant ok with 2 out of 8 people eatting their food and ok charging for any less on all of the group, never seen a restaurant that would lie about bring knives to the table when asked to provide them because their food was to tough to cut.... 1 salad had 1/8 th of 1 slice of tomato, 1 salad had 1 slice of carrot, everyone else had nothing but bagged iceberg lettuce. The meals were microwaved, burned, cold, tasted like freezer burn, spoiled. It took 30 minutes to get water. We asked for lemon 3 times. My father in law got his meal 15 minutes after the rest of us. He couldn't cut his food with the fork and spoon he was given. I sent my meal back and was ok watching everyone else eat until one after another people said theirs was awful. The frozen meatballs were still frozen in the middle but the plate was to hot to touch. I cannot believe the quality of this restaurant, it was mother's day, they lost our reservation, my brother got into an argument with the manager over the way they treated my in laws.....not his. I can't say 1 nice thing, not even the water. The group of 8 or 10 next to us must have gotten the last adult size cups for water and knives because we got kids cups and 1 butter knife to share (after being told we were all given knives and she must have accidentally picked them up) for a table of 8 adults. Terrible, awful, rude, and they gave us 1 item of 2 on every meal of 2 veal, 2 chicken parm dishes. We were told they're large enough to be counted as 2...they were not ........however you do get 2 frozen meatballs for $7 or $8. We walked out during an argument over less than 25% of our group eatting for $240 My son ate, my mother in law ate. I don't know what else to say. I think the owner may have been there during the last 5 minutes but didn't say nothing. Not sorry, hopefully you come back and give us another chance, nothing. We went from willing to pay for those that ate, to good luck, we're leaving and won't be back. I agreed to pay for what we ate until you picked up my father in laws plate to cut his food with the spoon you had given him to see if we were lying. There was zero possibility we were going to allow him to try and finish that food. Way to address the issues at hand. We all agreed that your food wasn't as good as a frozen lasagna....wait, it was a frozen lasagna...
