His words: "Please please please do me a favor and post something wonderful about Dr. Penrose. He did such an amazing job on my eye surgery and I'd hate for anyone to go anywhere else because he really knows his stuff and everyone in need of eye work should pay him a visit first!" My words: "Where do you want me to post it?" Him: "I don't know, that Yelp thingy?" Me: "Ok so you want me to Yelp review your eye doctor on your behalf?" Him: "YES!" Me: " I see" ( pun intended) Him "Not as well as me!!"

I cannot speak on whether these comments reflect any management awareness, but as a patient, it made the environment extremely uncomfortable to hear what I understood and perceived as carelessly ignorant. Living in California for a long time, these were not words I expected to hear and very inappropriate for the workplace let alone a "professional" clinic. The rest of my experience here has been great; amazing doctors and aides who have persistently helped me through my slough of issues, which makes this all the more unfortunate. I will not be returning and would strongly encourage a refresher of basic empathy, inclusiveness, and client-sided professionalism.

When I didn't receive the pre-op eye drops and also realizing that Dr. Friedman was not concerned about my dry eyes, I decided to delay the surgery. It was over NY's Eve, so the office was closed, and I couldn't reach anyone. When I called Monday, the day before the surgery, they said it was fine that I hadn't received the drops and no big deal about my dry eyes. I canceled anyway and then received an unitemized bill for $400+ for, according to the billing dept, "special tests." She said that, as a favor, they would apply my surgery deposit of $300+ to that second bill - so, basically, she kept it. Two months later, I got a $90 refund. The math doesn't even add up but I am glad I still have my eyes in tact. I mentioned Dr. Friedman to two locals and both had the same reaction, "He's horrible!" I went to another surgeon whom several people recommended. He treated my astigmatism and instructed me to use drops, which he provided, for my dry eyes. He also said there was no reason to perform surgery on my right eye. So...a totally different experience and no rushing. I don't like to leave bad reviews for people but this is too important not to mention. You only get one set of eyes.

They immediately become defensive when you ask questions. They make no effort to listen to the patient and they are not willing to work for the patient and insurance limitations. They say that the diagnosis is the diagnosis and don't try to work within insurance limitations to access insurance reimbursement and ease the burden on patients. After 7 years, they have now lost me as a patient and will never return there.
