My name is Denise and recently moved back to Salinas after being gone for 20 years. I needed an ophthalmologist. I went on Yelp and saw Monterey Bay Eye Center. The reviews were excellent and Dr. Rosenblum had 5 stars. I made an appointment to see Dr. Rosenblum. I trusted him from the very first day. He diagnosed me with cataracts. We scheduled my appointment for surgery. He explained everything in a way that allowed me to understand the process. Because I had had lasik, I chose to have the Light Adjusting Lens. It's a bit pricey and my insurance didn't cover it but so worth the cost. I couldn't be happier. Dr. Rosenblum's staff were friendly and professional. Dr. Shi diagnosed me with dry eyes & prescribed eye drops that helped. She recommended follow-up 1 year. I scheduled an earlier appointment to request more eye drops. Dr. Shi indicated that the manufacturer probably won't allow it. Dr. Shi was not current on the manufacturers recommendation. I got a refill no problem. The office canceled my follow-up appointment because Dr. Shi recommends follow-up 1 year & no one let me know. What happened to "causing no harm" read more

My appointment was at 3:30pm this afternoon. I get called back & wait in patient room until 4:27pm when the dr finally walks in. Barely says sorry and then asks if the nurse has done the pre screening screening before the exam, which he had not. By the time I finished my exam & checked out it was 5pm. Such slow service & I didn't see any other patients in the office during my visit. The front desk staff is not friendly & would not recommend this place to anyone. read more

So pretty much like everyone else has said, the wait times for your appointment here are awfully long. I had a 10:15 appointment last time I went here and I was 15 minutes early. I sat for nearly an hour in an overcrowded waiting area past my appointment time before I was finally called. They need to stop over booking. This place is horrible. Appt at 2pm waited 2 hrs when I finally was taken to from the exam was done by an assistant that's not even certified to do eye exams. When I brought it up to get attention she had an attitude and asked if I wanted the doctor to do the eye exam although doctor checks the results. This is unacceptable and shouldn't be allowed. Long wait, disappointing consultation. I was in the waiting room an hour past my appointment time when I approached the desk and asked how much longer. Shortly after that I was taken and sat in an exam room. The assistant asked me the same questions I responded to in their intake paperwork. Finally after waiting an hour and twenty six minutes the physician appears. Not worth the wait. Physician was surprised when I declined to schedule laser procedure at that time. In March, 2019, I went to a scheduled appointment and waited for one hour and fifteen minutes before I asked to be rescheduled to a less busy time. Today, April 4, I came for the rescheduled appointment and waited 30 minutes, found out there were several patients in front of me waiting to be seen by the same doctor - so I asked for my medical records and left. In both instances, I was on time for my appointment and was never apprised of any circumstances or situations which would preclude me being able to receive service. Although the treatments I have received when I finally encountered a doctor at this practice was excellent, I need to find a provider who is more customer service oriented with better practice management oriented to the needs of working professionals. I have been a patient of this office for years. For years, I have sat and waited either in the lobby or back in the exam rooms. Today was the final straw. I arrived at 1:55 for my 2:00 appt. I rushed there out of respect for the doctors time. I checked in, filled out paperwork then sat in the lobby for 45 minutes. I was furious. I couldn't do it anymore so I walked out to never return again. Had the office staff told me they were running behind and gave me the opportunity to decide if I want to wait that long I may have stayed a patient. They just assume you have nothing to do and show no respect for your time. Tomorrow I will try a new eye doctor and I can't imagine anyone will make you wait that long. read more

I moved to Monterey from silicon valley about four years ago. While the bay area maybe be over crowded, it does have some of the best doctors in the world. I guess it stems from being so close to Stanford, UCSF, Berkeley, etc. So I was nervous about the ophthalmology care I would get in a "small town". I have had 40+ years of serious eye issues and need the care of an MD more frequently than most people. After a very disappointing experience with a doctor downtown, I'm happy I was able to get a referral to Dr. Husted. Dr. Husted has so much experience. I'm guessing from all the army years, he has seen a lot! He really takes the time to study my chart at every visit, he listens to my concerns with focus and has prescribed the necessary tests and medications appropriately. He will also take a lot of time explaining medical issues with you and answer questions. Last week, he quickly diagnosed a subretinal hemorrhage and their office immediately sent me over to the retinal specialists downtown. Had the microscopic hemorrhage not been picked up then, it would have continued and I would have had vision loss. Yes, their office is busy. I think this area is short on good ophthalmologists, hence the packed schedules. But I've never had to wait more than ~30 minutes for anyone. Usually less. Ask for the guest wifi password (cell coverage is really bad there!) as that will help pass the time if you can read news or so. :-) read more

Called a few weeks ago and got an appointment for my son. He needed a new pair and broke his while skate boarding. He was seen that Friday. My oldest son took him, because I was at work. He was seen and ordered his glasses. No problem. My oldest son said I should get a call when they are ready should be about a week. Ok no problem. I called the following Friday for an ETA and my wife was in the area if they were ready. Receptionist was nice and transferred me. I got a voicemail. I left a message inquiring about the glasses and left my number. Didn't get a call back. So today Monday morning I call again to get an ETA. Again I'm transferred to a voicemail mail. I pressed 0 because I need to talk to someone. Got the receptionist and explained the situation. She looked around and said she would leave a message with the dr or whoever it is that takes care of the order. Waited a few more hrs so I texted the reminder message I got when I made the original appointment and said I still haven't heard from them. Wouldn't you know I get a phone call less then 5 minutes later. His glasses are ready. Checked the website to see what time they close. 530pm. Ok I leave work a little early to pick them up. Show up at 510 and the door is locked. I call the phone and get a message that they are closed. I hear people talking and knock on the door. All I want is my son's glasses for crying out loud! Welp no glasses. Please update your website, and return your messages! Really pissed off and fusterated. No excuse for this. read more

The office is lovely. Clean, plenty of seats, magazines, water - no coffee. In the two appointments I had, I was kept waiting for 30+ minutes. The first time I told Dr. Rosenblum I was unhappy with the wait time. While he apologized, I certainly expected the problem was rectified. Last week, my appointment with Dr. Nguyen I was kept waiting, again. My 2:30 appt. went by and at 2:55 PM, the doctor came to the waiting room. She did spend quite a bit of time in the examination, however, after dilating my eyes, she sent me out to the waiting room for another 30 minutes. I did not leave the office until 4:40 PM I've asked for my medical records and will take to Vantage Eye Care. read more

Those ladies were so rude to me on the phone and when I came in. Onne if the smaller gals (I think she had a small nose piercing) was super rude. I have to admit that while I'm not the most patient of people, my last two visits here have been very long, to say the the least. My original appointment I was waiting for 1.5 hours before Dr Nguyen stepped in, and even then it was another hour before I completed my appointment, and we decided not to dilate! This morning I sat in the waiting room for a 1/2 hour before complaining and then they brought me in. A follow-up appointment taking about 1.5 hours. I'm not sure who the person in charge is, and how they schedule, but they really should reconsider the process before they lose more customers. All this being said, Dr Nguyen is an excellent doctor when they finally get around to seeing you. read more

We checked in at 2:30 PM and we were brought in about 2:58 PM which isn't bad considering we were filling out paper work. Cindy, was patient and thoughtful helping my cousin get situated in focusing his eye on the machine. He was unsuccessful but it wasn't Cindy's fault. That's a story for another time. We didn't bring our records with us so they called my cousins previous doctors to have them fax over his documents immediately. We saw Dr. Leland Rosenbaum and he is someone you don't see everyday with his bedside manner. He cared. He gave us enough information on whether to surgery or go another route but he was very assuring that there will be a remedy for my cousins cataracts. Overall, our visit lasted close to 3 hours. I know right, but we were cared for throughout our entire time. We look forward to the surgery and I believe my cousin is in good hands! read more

Dear Dr. Husted, In autumn of 2010 I was depending on your expertise to keep my right eye healthy because my left eye was severely impacted by macular degeneration, and I was totally Dependent on my right eye for reading and driving. You knew that I would fail the upcoming renewal of my driver's license. Your choice of treatment was to keep watching my vision deteriorate until you figured it out. In December I failed my driver's license renewal. By mid January my vision crashed completely. I was blind. You decided to send me to a cornea specialist in Watsonville. I asked why you didn't send me to a local cornea specialist. You replied "Every time I send a patient to a local cornea specialist, I never see that patient again." That implied to me that you were more concerned about maintaining your patient list than you were about your patient's eye health, even if it meant inconveniencing the patient. Because you wouldn't refer me to a local cornea specialist, I was sent to Dr. Cheng in Watsonville, and he took one look at my eye, and said "What took you so long to come here?" He then sent me directly to the Stanford Eye Center where I spent over two weeks having several drops in my eye every thirty minutes twenty four hours a day. It turned out I had a rare fungal infection in my cornea, and it was close to rupturing the cornea and spreading throughout the eye. Fortunately, that endeavor was successful, but then it took eighteen months to kill the infection, which by then had damaged the cornea so badly that I would need a transplant. Dr. Christopher Ta, who successfully stopped the spread of the fungus, then announced that he was handing me off to his mentor, Dr. David Hwang at UCSF, stating that my case was so difficult that I needed the best to handle the transplant. Clearly, his moral compass was functioning properly. This whole experience implies to me that you knew long before you sent me to Dr. Cheng that it was a cornea problem, but were reluctant to send me to a cornea specialist, local or otherwise. I have been legally blind for three and a half years, and may never read or drive again. If you have a believable explanation how this was allowed to happen to me, I would like to hear it. My own conclusion is that, if identified and treated by a specialist in the early stages, it would never have become so difficult to treat. You failed this patient miserably. You will never see this patient again, not because you sent me to a local cornea specialist, but because you failed to send me to any cornea specialist for proper diagnosis and treatment in a timely manner. What a horrible experience!! Took my Mom for consult with Dr Husted. Her appointment was at 11 am. We waited 45 minutes in waiting room and we're escorted to exam room where the assistant asked a few questions and did a exam. We waited and waited...another 45 minutes before the doctor entered the room just to be called to see another patient. He apologized for the delay and said he would return. At 1PM we decided to leave. The staff was pleasant & courteous, however, we were not notified of possible delays, etc. We did not reschedule. What a disappointment!! read more

This place is simply astounding. The staff was courteous and kind, and listened to every question and fulfilled every need I had. They also had a teenage boy play violin in the reception area, which made the wait seem not as long. The doctors there were also very kind, and you could simply tell they knew what they were doing, and were well educated. This review is for the office staff and billing staff, and not for the doctor. My last visit was in 2013, and this afternoon I reviewed a letter from collections saying I owed $166.00 without any explanation, any phone calls from the office, or letters, email, messenger pigeon.. Nothing. So upon calling the office to ask why I have a bill that I never once received notice for, I learned that it was for a visit 3 years ago. I asked what address and phone number they had on file, the address was right and the phone number wrong. They have my current email on file. Yet here I am, 3 years later and not one email or letter. The billing staff was not helpful or apologetic. I hope this review helps you decide to find a different eye center. read more

Disclaimer: This review is primarily about the reception/administration of this office. Every single appointment I have here has me waiting 30-60 minutes. On the first appointment, I sat for 30 minutes (after showing up at the exact time I was supposed to be there) before they asked me if I had filled out the patient updated paperwork (which I hadn't), which just delayed it further. Second appointment had me waiting 40+ minutes for no reason. While there I overheard them talking to a really old lady who had been there for an hour and a half, they asked her why she was there and she replied saying that they told her to come in. The people at the reception don't have great personalities, when you talk to them it always feels like you're bothering them. It makes for a very uncomfortable experience. And now I found out they billed all of my appointments incorrectly, causing my insurance to not cover anything. I feel bad for the doctors who work at this office, as I have nothing but praise for their skill and character. They do an excellent job, and are great to talk to. But I simply cannot recommend going here as the administration is simply horrible. read more

I have been going to this office for several years. My GP recommended Dr. Husted. He has a wonderful reputation. I have never waited less than an hour, and usually more. Dr. Husted always apologizes profusely, but nothing ever changes. I had an appointment in March, first thing Monday morning. I received a confirming phone call on Friday. I showed up at 8:30a. After I sat in the waiting room for about 10 minutes, one of the women in the office, said, "Oh, sorry, I just found out Dr. Husted won't be in this morning." I explained that I had rec'd a confirmation call. She said, "I wan't here on Friday, and anyway, our power went out." (So no one has a cell phone in that office?!) I left, very annoyed. I rescheduled the appointment for the first Monday morning in June. Friday afternoon I rec'd a phone call saying I would have to reschedule the appointment, as he wouldn't be in. I like Dr. Husted. He did 2 successful procedures on my eyes, but the mismanaged office has become intolerable. read more

I had my first new patient visit today. No one waited in the waiting room longer than 5 minutes other than me (~15 minutes) and I was doing all the new patient paperwork. I was taken back to the room and had a friendly staff member do my initial work up. Within 5-10 minutes the doctor was with me. He was knowledgeable and friendly and all his recommendations coincided with my previous doctor I had before I moved. I have a unique condition so he asked if his colleague could look at my eyes as well. She was also friendly and professional. I look forward to seeing them for my routine visits! read more

My first impression of Dr. Nguyen was that she was very pretty. And who wouldn't like a pretty eye doctor. However more importantly, she was very thorough in her examination of me. She explained to me in words I could understand and which each test was for and encouraged me to ask questions which I did. I am 66 years old and have had many eye exams but none more complete then Dr. Nguyen's. Good doctor, poor staff, Husted saw me on a Friday and said I had to see a retina specialist by next week, and told his staff person to send my records over immediately. I called the retina folks on Monday and they said they hadn't received my records but would call Husted's office and get them and then call me for an appointment. Tuesday no call. Wednesday no call. Finally I called them on Thursday and they said they were having trouble getting a response from Husted's office., but would try again and call me back. Finally they called me Thursday afternoon and said they finally had the records and the first available appointment was next month! read more

I've been a patient of Dr. Husted's for over 10 years and I can't say enough wonderful things about him or the staff at MBEC. He truly cares about his patients. For all the reviews complaining about the wait time, haven't any of you heard of good things come to those who wait? The staff is obviously not doing this to you on purpose. I can't speak for the other Dr's here but I'm more than happy to wait to receive such a high level of care and attention from Dr. Husted. I've recently been dealing with a very problematic eye infection and he has gone above and beyond in helping me in this healing process. Well I haven't even seen a doctor yet, but already not impressed with their conduct. I received a call from my doctor saying my referral went through and I needed to call to make an appointment. So I waited 5 days just knowing how all this works, and giving the office time to have the referral in the system. I called today and tried to make an appointment, the lady on the phone asked if it was a routine exam or I was having a problem. I told her problem, she then made me explain the problem I was having, she then asked me to hold. After holding for a few minutes I was asked which doctor i was supposed to see. I explained again I don't know, my doctor told me to call and make an appointment. She said I needed to call back to my Dr. I asked her if she could call, she gave me an attitude like that was asking to much, like she was parting the red sea just to call the doctors office. So she didn't want to call my doctors office so I asked again to make an appointment. She told me I'd have to pay out of pocket. I asked her again to call the doctors office finally she reluctantly says ok I'll do that for you. Excuse me for asking you to do your job. Also why the hell did I have to explain what was wrong with my eye if you're not even going to make me an appointment. read more

He diagnoses and performs such fragile, delicate procedures, knowing that our very eyesight depends on his incredible skill. For 16 years, Dr. Rosenblum has quietly and thoughtfully dealt with my rare eye condition. He carefully balances my requirements to prevent blindness. My numerous eye surgeries have always been done under his gentle hands and demeanor. He is a compassionate listener, never seeming to be in a hurry. He respects my questions and occasional anxieties.
