His crew came and didn't need much other than the door to the roof. They sent photos of what needed fixing with their quote and again of what they fixed with their invoice. The roof looks great and I'm not worried about rain now. The quote was on the higher side but because of their professionalism I'm glad I went with them. That's exactly what happened here. My estimate was around $23,000 but the final cost was over $45,000. They placed a lot of the cost as 'extra' but most of it became necessary. I chose this company based on their good reviews. But I think they prevented bad reviews. I would have gotten a 'discount' if I didn't write this review. The clause they added was: "As part of this agreement, both parties agree not to make, publish, or communicate any statements, whether written or oral, that could reasonably be construed as negative, defamatory, or disparaging toward the other party, including but not limited to statements made on review platforms, social media, or to third parties. This includes statements regarding the project, the services performed, or the resolution of this matter. This obligation applies indefinitely." It seemed pretty standard, so I guess I am not the first to get it. When they added over $6,000 to the estimate, I requested to be notified of any further changes. I heard nothing. But when I called to ask what was going on, I was told that the cost had increased to over $40,000. And I had to call to find out. When I asked to see the items I was being charged, I was told I should have gone up to roof and watched to verify what was actually being used. That response alone speaks volumes. My advice: be careful when you get an estimate from a company who doesn't have someone go on the roof. I thought using a drone was modern and efficient, but it can also be lazy and gives them no idea what needs to be done --adding costly surprises later.

I called a roofing company that I found on YELP that had all 5 star reviews. Their representative came out and I told him about our leak, hoping it could be repaired but wondering if it needed replacing. As soon as I told him the roof was over 40 years old, he said it had to be replaced. He flew his drone above our home and from that he determined how many roofing squares were needed. He gave a quote on the spot and then spent the next 15 minutes or more talking about his family situation. I then called Hercules Roofing. I told their representative, Alon, the same story I told the first company. He said there was no way to be sure unless he inspected it. He asked permission to go into the attic to see where the leak is and also look around? I said sure. He spent the next 45 minutes surveying all areas inside the attic. Once he came out, he said we actually had several areas of prior leaks but that no other ones had penetrated to do damage to our ceiling. I then stuck my head into the attic and he showed me some of those wet areas. All the while, I was thinking that Alon was treating my home as though it was his. I thought of the difference between these two representatives as night and day. His quote was similar to the first quote but I did not wait to get a third quote. My wife and I agreed right then to go with them and we are so happy that he did. The contract stipulated that they would give us an allowance for the plywood that needed replacing as well as an allowance for any tiles that would need replacing. The allowance was very generous and we did not incur any additional expense over what was quoted. I researched the materials in the contract they would be using and they were all top of the line. Their Workmanship warranty is for 10 years with 30 years on the Manufacturer's materials. They stated they would be done in 3 to 5 days and they were. They worked long hours each day and after they were done, they left our property just like no work had even been done. On January 13, 2025, I contacted Gary Fox Roofing to request an inspection and an estimate after additional roof tiles had come off during a recent wind event. I was told they were approximately two to three weeks out and that I should follow up if I didn't hear back. Rather than taking responsibility for follow-up once they were available, I was told that I needed to keep checking back if I hadn't heard from them--an approach I found unprofessional. When I followed up on January 27, I was told my request was "on a list," but no appointment was scheduled and no timeframe was provided. I was again told to check back in a few weeks. I followed up again on February 26 and again on March 11. Each time, I was told they were busy and that I should continue checking back. At no point was an inspection scheduled or an estimate provided. In my experience, there was no effective scheduling or follow-up process, and the burden was placed entirely on me to repeatedly call or email in hopes that something would eventually happen. After nearly two months of effort with no progress, I hired another roofer who handled the job promptly and professionally. Based on my documented experience, communication and follow-through were lacking. If you value your time, I would look elsewhere.
