The Smokehouse is a fixture in the Waterside building at norfolk. There's a large Central eating area with giant big screen TVs and a central bar that are surrounded by 8 or 10 restaurants. Among those is Guy Fieri's Steakhouse. My wife and I decide to give it a try. She had the pulled pork and I had the beef brisket. Admittedly I wanted to try the ribs but they were already out by 2:30. There's only four options for sides my wife had the baked beans and I had the french fries. Starting with a meat, the brisket was definitely a home run compared to the pork. It had a crust and burn tips in sections that really brought out a lot of flavor to the beef. The pulled pork was acceptable but really had very little flavoring to it. They give your choice of sauces to use. I wanted to try the juju sauce but they were out. So instead I had the bourbon brown sugar and my wife had a classic Carolina vinegar barbecue sauce. The bourbon brown sugar was put together well with a sweetness and a thickness that worked on both the pork and the beef. The Carolina vinegar sauce was actually a bit spicy and also a little bit more vinegar flavored than we're used to even though we're right here by North Carolina. For the sides, the restaurant really needs to work on upgrading their sides. Options of mac and cheese, beans, coleslaw, French fries. As I said my wife had the beans and I tried them as well. They were regular pinto beans with tomato sauce There were some pieces of pork fat as if you had a slightly upgraded can of pork and beans. It did also have small chopped chilies in it. Basically I found that if you had a bite with a Chili's it was pretty good but any other bite mixture and you were not enthused about the dish. We ended up throwing half of it away. The french fries were crinkle cut fried french fries. What more can you say? On a Sunday afternoon there were a few dozen people with a chill atmosphere and sports on TV. Very apprehensive due to reviews...so I had to come give it a try myself! Came with a big party (made reservations) and our overall stay was about 2 hours. Came starving (poor choice) and the wait seemed treacherous, especially smelling others food pass by, but that definitely gave us hope! Forgot the name, but the white peach + whiskey drink was good. My friends liked the jackrabbit. A waitress was good, forget of a couple things but all was well. The trashcan nachos presentation was amazing and true to its name! Though it was tasty (those beans put in work!), a lot of those nachos were super soggy. Not sure why but it would've been even better if crisp. My tatted up turkey burger (no cranberry sauce) was also so good that I finished the whole thing! Idk what donkey sauce is & I don't care because it was just right. My burger was light but filling with the addition of some bbq sauce. The sriracha bbq sauce was just okay. Not true heat to it...which kind of defeats the purpose. Tried out Guy Fieri's Smokehouse last night for Monday Night Football and. Some good food. The experience was GREAT! The staff are super friendly, go out of their way to help you, nice selection of drinks and food. Large flatscreen TV's around the bar which you can see from anywhere in the bar area and what I was a dance floor on the other side. The inside is very nice....has that sports bar/ dive feel to it signature to Guy himself. It really laid back and very nice The drink selection is not large but what they offer is very good. Also, they will make drinks for you that aren't even on the menu. I had a vodka drink served in a mason jar (I forgot the name) and it was out of this world. It had Tito's Vodka, lemonade, mint and some other stuff. I'm not a fan of sweet drinks like this one but it really was good. I had the best bartender. She was a lively 24 year old thang that knew her way around the bar and could make any drink you desire. She interacted with me, made drink suggestions, was personal about what she liked and didn't like; now that is a Bartender. She took my food order, brought out a bunch of sauces and told me "you gonna need that" and anything else I ask for. She was. 5 star by herself. The large flatscreens were perfect to watch a game on. I mean I could see and hear every detail of the game. I ordered the Brickhouse Burger. It had came with some interesting fries. You see they were came from different cuts in one order. Some were curly, some waffle, thick and thin cut. Wasn't served hot and very under seasoned - could have used a little more salt. The burger was served on Texas toast wrapped in foil. It was not seasoned well but had a salsa on it that gave me the salt it needed; so this worked. It was more bread than burger so they need to work on that. Don't go if you expect a restaurant. If you're expecting a full service restaurant- like Guy's at the Link in Vegas, but without the gambling- nope. Don't even bother. It's basically a kiosk at a mall food court. The Mrs (Ruben Expert) and I, on her suggestion drove to Norfolk for a weekend. Whose expectations was that Saturday's dinner would be guys. That whole Burgers fries, the whole Food Network/ Dinner drive in's and dive thing. There is no restaurant. A previous Yelper pointed this out earlier. I "ass-u-me-d" it was because of Covid. Finally, tried this place out! We had a very good waitress who accommodated my party of 12 very well. The inside of the restaurant is not as big as I thought though. With plenty of different meal choice, this is a good place for a group. I went with the turkey burger and it was dry and bland. But I haven't found a good turkey burger from anywhere so I didn't really expect anything much more from here. BUT the crabcake my son had ...was good!! Who would of thought to get crabcakes at a smokehouse? It did not have a lot of fillers so this is worth getting. The smoke Mac and cheese was good! Very, very cheesy and fulfilling. It had like panko or breadcrumb topping. This was enough for the kids where they didn't need to eat anything else. Wasn't a fan honestly. I went with my two friends. I'm a HUGE picky eater and they would NOT let me take items off a burger. And the only one that seemed good was the blue cheese burger, and I HATE blue cheese. Well I wanted to try this restaurant... I remember a few months ago this restaurant opened and it was standing room only and reservations were a must. So when babe suggested this place for a last minute dinner, I said well make reservations first because they are usually busy. Well I remembered them being busy often when we visited the Waterside District. So reservations were made online, but from what we know now, we were supposed to receive confirmation from the confirmation that reservations were set in stone. We didn't know... We showed to an almost empty restaurant the Saturday before Christmas and was super shocked. I said to myself...where are the people? The restaurant was nothing like what I remembered...people seated and standing from wall to wall...long waiting periods. On this night a few people were dining around the full service bar, but seats were open. And I'd say maybe 10 tables were sat. But the turn off comes into play that their were more than few tables left untidy. Untidy meaning, people had dined, but the tables were not free of clutter or cleaned off. Gross... So the hostess walks us to a table right in the front of the restaurant that's filled with crumbs. Well we didn't want to sit right in front of the restaurant nor did we want to sit at what appears to be a nasty table. The hostess suggested a high-top table in the back that is shared with other parties... we thought that's cool. We walked back to this section and more tables were left unclean and where she wanted to sit us was even more gross. OMG...talk about an instant turn off. After the hostess handed us the menus... gross too. It was like people wiped their hands on the menus or spilled several sauces on them and they have never been wiped off. Perhaps the menu should be laminated. I just couldn't stomach this place any longer. Within five minutes we left. I wondered if Guy F. knows this restaurant was operating under these conditions... if this was my restaurant and my name was the brand oh I would have a super fit! Perhaps when this image of the restaurant leaves my brain I will return to try it out. But in the meantime, I will always pass up on eating here. We all take a chance eating out. First, let's start this off by saying tHat my husband and I haven't gone back to this restaurant for a little over two years due to the first experience we had (which was pretty bad-food, wait time and all around service). With that said, we came to Waterside to grab a bite and were considering everything except Guy's. After looking at reviews from yelp- we decided to not go back for a second try until the bar tender Jasson changed our minds. Jasson was awesome and was genuinely interested in knowing why we didn't want to dine there and what our previous experience was. He was committed to changing our minds and went out of his way to relay our a sentiments to his GM Cyrus. Cyrus came to us and explained the changes and growth that Guy Fieri's has experienced since he has taken over and welcomed us to take another shot on Guy's......so we did. Freaking night and day experience! Let's talk about the wait time-none (granted we came for lunch) our food came out very quick. The food, TOTAL TOTAL REDEMPTION, beautifully presented eye p*rn. The food was hot, flavored PERFECTLY and honestly way way better than expected. The service was honestly what made the day paired with the food. The fact that Jasson and Cyrus took the time (without us even asking to speak to them) to understand our experience and their desire to change our minds was above and beyond what they needed to do. My husband and I just said how bummed we are that we blew off this restaurant for two years after the amazing experience we had today. GM Cyrus, you just gained two new permanent diners. Horrible food! Came in to town for my son's graduation from Old Dominion University on May 7, 2022; and was looking for the best food in the area. Across from our hotel was the Waterside District and we got excited that Guy Fieri's Smokehouse was there. My son ordered the pulled pork sandwich, my fiancé ordered a brisket sandwich with baked beans, and I ordered a 1/2 rack of ribs. My son liked the pulled pork sandwich and my fiancé liked her baked beans. Her brisket on the other was full of fat and was salty. She literally attempted to pull out the fat to try to eat the sandwich but coupled with the salt it was too much. My ribs were extremely dry, borderline burnt, and seemed as if it was cooked several days prior and reheated multiple times.The meat was dry and crunchy there was no amount of extra BBQ sauce that made a difference. We ended up throwing the brisket and ribs away. The food was over priced but we paid for it since we expected a much better experience. Guy really needs to check the quality of his food at this location. I am hugely disappointed; I would not go back to this location or recommend anyone to go to this establishment until management was changed or Guy took over the oversight of this location. This place is not good. From the moment we walked in, I was underwhelmed. The hostess looked very confused, as if she didn't understand the layout of the restaurant she worked in. We stood there for a good 4 minutes before she finally figured out she did have an open table. I ordered a Cobb salad with no egg, cheese or dressing with a side of smashed potatoes. The chicken on the salad had no flavor, was cold and the chicken was hard. The bacon was not real bacon, but something I would have gotten in my college food hall. The potatoes were not smashed. You basically just got mini baked potatoes. The spices on the outside of the potatoes were good. The water tasted like they got it straight from the ocean so I ordered a soda and that tasted like they don't clean the machine. The server was okay. I would not return. read more

So, I decided to give it a go again but this time, bringing new people and it was restaurant week!!!!! This was my second visit to this place and I was a little let down....random Wednesday I went for lunch with an hour to spare....I was greeted and seated quickly. Waitress took our order when we were ready after 5 minutes of deliberation. Then we proceeded to wait almost 30 minutes for two burgers and fries! The fries were overseasoned and extremely salty - I had a few but thought I was going to gag. My friend who ordered the same thing also was grossed out. Anothe friend ordered the brisket -which had huge pieces of fat around the edges - I'll let them submit their own review. I was definitely expecting more from this smokehouse because of the name itself & the location in the Waterside district. Overall, this restaurant was very OVERHYPED and the lack there of menu and options was the most disappointing part. 1) The establishment is kinda confusing to enter. It's connected by a bar on one side, and PBR on the other side (technically you enter through PBR and it's located behind through the club, tell the bouncers you are going to the restaurant so you aren't charged for the club). 2) Came here for date night, and it's VERY loud. With a live band playing on one side, and the club blasting the music on the other side, it's a lot going on. The doors are open so it's east to just flow and go from one place to the next. If you don't like crowds or loud establishments this is not the place for you. Also since it was so open and connected with the other establishments it seemed most people were using the restaurants bathroom so there was always a line and even someone passed out on the floor in the restroom at one point (PBR crowd). 3) Don't even waste your time coming here for the food. The menu is literally like one page and the options are so slim. The drinks weren't the greatest, service was also kinda slack, the food was okay nothing to rave about. I ordered the salmon which was tasted, the brussels sprouts which were tasty & burnt at the same time, the fries were good (mixture of 3 different textures). I wanted to love it and prove the haters wrong. Buuuut...it's just all right. First we made sure to order the Trashcan Nachos. It sounded like the epitome of Guy's larger than life personality, so how could we not get them? It was pretty fun watching as the waitress brought them to our table enshrouded under some sort of big metal watering can(?) and then removed the can to reveal a fairly impressive avalanche of cheesy nachos and toppings. After much deliberation, my husband and I have firmly decided... we're not sure if we would order it again. I very much enjoyed the pickled onions and seemingly fresh-sliced, not pickled jalapenos on top. The brisket was decent. The cheese was lacking and also could have been a heartier variety as well, like feta or goat, because the one that they used honestly didn't have a ton of flavor like we would have expected from a Guy dish. We saw that the nachos contained baked beans when we read the description on the menu and thought that baked beans on nachos would probably taste kinda weird, but we trusted that Guy knew better than us. Well, I gotta say, they were kinda weird. I got the Brick Burger for my entree--it was really good. I loved the balance of pickles and tomatoes and what I think were pimentos on it. Oh, and I love that it was pressed flat, kinda like a panini. But it was SUPER greasy, and because it was wrapped in tin foil, the grease wasn't able to drain and left the bread soggy, so that was pretty off-putting. My husband got the Bacon Mac N Cheese burger; surprisingly, my burger was better than his. He let me try a little, and yeah, the mac was very underwhelming. Might as well have been Kraft mac' n 'cheese. He also says the bacon was tough. Their fries were really good! And they serve a variety of them when you get them as your side. They serve waffle fries, a kind of wave shaped steak fry, and then your typical thicker shoestring type fries. I think that's a fun and unique twist on a side of fries! They're seasoned with barbeque rub and are nice and crispy. Overall, the food quality was middle of the road, maybe just a little better than middle. But we definitely got the bang for our buck! I saw that Guy Fieri (of Diners, Drive-ins and Dives fame) had a smokehouse restaurant nearby, so I decided to give it a try. The beer selection is varied, though not great. I decided to have a Virginia Beer Co. Free Verse IPA; it was very nice. For my dinner, I decided to have the smoked pulled pork platter. The portion of pulled pork was good and it was moist with a nice smoky flavor. Sides included pit baked beans, coleslaw and house pickles; bourbon brown sugar barbeque sauce was provided. The sides complemented the meal nicely. My only complaint is that the portion of pickles could have been more generous; after all, they're not that expensive. My portion included one (1) pickle slice and two (2) pickled carrot shavings. All-in-all, it was a good dinner and I'd go back there again. read more

Tatted Turkey Burger.....so damn good. Came here for lunch today (Friday) and grabbed a spot right away out on the patio to sit and enjoy my lunch break. My friend and I had a Waterside District $25 gift card we actually won from a Tides game mid-inning game, so we both grabbed some food. He got the Brick Burger, of which I didn't get any of his thoughts on it because he decided to take his to go. I got the Tatted Turkey Burger, which was extremely good. Although I had no idea what most of the ingredients on the sandwich were, I did know it was the perfect combination of sauce on a rather big turkey patty, as well as some nice toppings I would have never thought to put on it. I'll refrain from listing all the ingredients and make you do some research of your own, but it did come with a basket of fries. The basket had regular fries, waffle fries, and those circularly peeled ones, so no matter what fry you are in the mood for they have you covered! The service was fast and our waiter was attentive. Let's start by staying this is no longer a full brick and mortar. Rather go inside the building and it's a food stand next to Bluemoon Taphouse. The prices are way too high for the portion size and taste. 10.99 for a pulled pork sandwich with chips. One small scoop of pork and less that half a scoop of coleslaw to top the sandwich. There is nothing smokey or remotely tasteful about the meal. $4.99 for one smoked sausage link. They should be ashamed to call it a smoked sausage link. It was white on color, didn't look appealing at all. More like a German sausage or something that should've been served with peppers and onions. It had a decent flavor but it was not smoked sausage. The beans were okay, nice and sweet. Now let's get on that Big Daddy Mac and Cheese..... it's the absolute worst mac I have ever tasted! The noodles were way undercooked, they can't even qualify as al dente! And it tasted worse than the most basic box mac and cheese. It was bland and tasted like cheese powder. There was no really cheese in that whatsoever! And then they had the nerve to top it with more cheese powder. Giving two stars because the manager was noticeably sorry for the experience we had. But this experience was a zero. It is date night and we decided to come down to waterside for a bite to eat. Every time before Guy's didn't disappoint us. I ordered the pulled pork platter and my wife ordered the motley que. meals came out quick and looked great on the plate. After the first bite it went down from there. Both meals we room temp at best even the Mac and cheese. And the Cole slaw was room temperature. We had the waitress and manger take it back. It returned in less than five minutes different portions and again it was cold. This time we discover aluminum foil in my pulled pork. We both immediately stopped eating and I asked for our check. The manager picked up the food and we paid or the one drink we had ordered and we left. I know this was an anomaly for this establishment, but it is a yelpers duty to review and state truth. I will go back, but it may be a while. Hope the manager fixes whatever the issue were today. read more
