Bourbon street drums ($24) seasonal menu

My husband and I came to The Butcher's Son for our anniversary and had such a great first experience. Lindsey took care of us and she was awesome--super attentive, easy to talk to, and gave solid recommendations that we were really happy with. You can tell this place takes pride in what they do. They focus on high quality ingredients and locally sourced vegetables, really leaning into the whole farm-to-table, support local mindset. We started with the BBQ nachos special as an appetizer and honestly... it was huge. Easily enough to share with 5-6 people. The portion of pulled pork surprised us (in a good way). The pico de gallo was fresh and garlicky, the BBQ sauce had a nice sweetness, and it all worked really well with the American cheese. For my entrée, I ordered the Bourbon Street Drums ($24) from the seasonal menu. It's bacon-wrapped chicken legs with a sweet BBQ sauce, served with broccolini and gouda mac and cheese. Everything on the plate was so good. I would've kept eating if I hadn't already filled up on the nachos. My husband got the French dip sandwich. Lindsey recommended adding the jalapeño bacon jam (which is also paired with their French dipping spring rolls appetizer), and he said it was a great call. It added a little extra kick and flavor that worked really well with the sandwich. He didn't care for the au jus too much, so the other sauce made up for it! Overall, such a good experience from start to finish. Great food, generous portions, and excellent service. We're already looking forward to coming back and trying more of the menu.

This is such a delicious and classic steak restaurant. They have the best "early bird special" if you go Sunday-Thursday from 4-5:30. It's $15 for a steak, salmon or pork chop and 2 sides. All are delicious. Also they have the best steak butter or sauce choices that are to die for. I love the peppercorn one. You can't go wrong with any food selection here, it's all fresh and good! The service has always been top notch too, at least at the Chesapeake location.

For St Patrick's Day, a couple of guys from work wanted to go here for dinner. We missed the happy hour Tuesday specials, but sat down to enjoy a cold IPA and heard the special of Tenerloin steak in Guinness with corn beef and some hash. Decided to go with the 12-oz and it was a solid plate. The potatoes were a little dry but the mixture of these were a perfect way to enjoy St Patty's without getting beer spilled on me!

We recently had dinner at The Butcher's Son located on South Battlefield Boulevard in the heart of Great Bridge in Chesapeake. They have a fantastic Happy Hour menu and I opted for the Cheeseburger. It was cooked perfectly and it was very tasty. The staff is fantastic here and the food aside, they are reason enough to come back again and again...

Food was nothing short of amazing! Everything came out in such perfect timing from the appetizers. The staff was super helpful and insanely welcoming! I personally ordered the Brian's Classic which was a delicious assortment of Surf & Turf with a perfectly baked potato and salad topped with just the right amount of toppings.

Came for dinner with family on a Sunday evening so it wasn't crowded. Started with the French dip roll and calamari, the rolls were very tasty but the calamari was dry and less great. The portion size was less than expected. For dinner, I had the ribeye med rare and hubby had the filet special. Steaks were all cooked as ordered. Others had the sirloin and the steak pasta. Everyone enjoy their meal except for the person who ordered the French dip sandwich they said it was too salty and couldn't finish it. All in all good visit with good service.

We had reservations for dinner on Father's Day. I wasn't the one who made them, so we were a bit surprised that it was only buffet for the night. Great buffet dinner though! They had prime rib, sirloin, pork loin, mac and cheese, salmon, green beans, shrimp, oysters, salad, assorted desserts. Everything was great. The service was even better! Can't wait to go again!

The food was excellent. I ordered crabcakes and my husband ordered ribeye. We also had two appetizers, one of which was the double eggs and the other was the stuffed mushrooms. They were excellent as well. The service was spectacular and the ambience. Well, it's nice, but it isn't as nice as the food and the service

    Super small and EXPENSIVE oysters.

Ask the Community - The Butcher's Son

Do they still have brunch buffets?

I dined most recently on a Sunday & they offered brunch service - not a brunch buffet. I'm not sure about the Chesapeake location, though, since I haven't dined there.

    What's the dress code?

Basically anything decent. I wouldn't wear flip flop or gym/workout apparel. In the summer, I've… Read more

    How is their brunch?

Awesome but right now they are only taking take out orders... Call them, they will take your order and bring it to your car...

How should you dress for Sunday brunch?

Anything goes. Some straight from church all dressed up; others in flip-flops and shorts.

Can someone explain the Sunday brunch to me please like what exactly is it how does it work, and what kind of food options are there is it only meats or are there veggie and fruits too?

Brunch runs from 9am - 2pm, the brunch Buffet is stocked with turkey sausage, applewood smoked bacon, biscuits and gravy, assorted cooked vegetables, home fries, eggs Benedict with ham, a soup of the day, cheesy breakfast Mac and cheese, sliced… Read more

Are the portion size pretty big or is it a reasonable size?

The steaks depend on ounce. The seafood and sides are a good portion. I usually have left overs.

Time your visit well, and you'll be rewarded with a sunset that is nothing short of spectacular--an ideal backdrop for an already memorable dining experience. The restaurant strikes a rare balance: refined without being pretentious. The atmosphere leans toward fine dining, yet the dress code is refreshingly unforced. Jackets and ties coexist comfortably with shorts and flip-flops--a subtle nod to Chesapeake's "come as you are" sensibility. Whether you arrive by boat or by car, the experience begins the moment you step inside. We started with the ahi carpaccio and a classic Caesar salad--both fresh, well-composed, and thoughtfully prepared. For entrées, my wife chose the crab-stuffed shrimp, finished with a lemon-herb beurre blanc and accompanied by sautéed vegetables. It was an excellent dish--rich, balanced, and, notably, not shared. I opted for the 13-ounce New York strip with a garlic and herb demi-glace. Cooked to a precise medium-rare, the steak was properly seasoned and executed with confidence. In a moment of generosity, I offered a few bites across the table--well received, though her loyalty remained with her own selection. From the waterfront setting to the attentive service and well-crafted cuisine, Amber Lantern delivers a dining experience that feels both special and approachable. It's a place worth seeking out--and returning to.

It was very bland and the drinks were very bad as well The bartender did not know what she was doing. I had to return the drink twice. It was just a lemon drop pretty easy to make. I ended up exchanging it for a wine. My husband had a old-fashioned. It was very watered down and sweet. It's a shame it's a beautiful restaurant, but it's literally been a run by kids right now. They need a better management team in there to overlook everything. Everything got late to our table. It wasn't our waitress fault she was so apologetic. I really want more for this place. It's so pretty and it has a great view. I would recommend new management or manager and to upgrade the menu and train the bartenders . I feel bad leaving this review, but I just wish this restaurant the best !

We dined early, at 5:30 for our toddler and they happily and easily accommodated us at a nice, quiet corner booth with a booster seat. Our server was very friendly and mostly attentive - we did have to remind him of some things a few times but overall, he took good care of us. We decided to split several things: -Seasonal Salad - Caprese-style with a bed of spinach, tomato and mozzarella. Pretty light on the tomato and mozzarella cheese but good. -16oz. Sirloin cooked Pittsburg-style (extra char) -Collard Greens -Macaroni and Cheese add Lobster -Steak Fries -Steak bites and mashed potatoes for my 2-year old -Chocolate Mousse Cake and Coffees for table Everything was delicious. Pace was nice, salad and bread out quickly as well as my daughter's meal. The steak was excellent and perfectly cooked. Their collard greens were wonderful as well as the macaroni and cheese. Honestly, I loved everything about it. We will add this into the rotation for steakhouses when in the mood. Prices are very high on the meats - but, quality and execution was good. Ambiance is nice - large bar area and parking is easy in this complex with the free garages nearby.

So booking a reservation for mother's day brunch was a no brainer for me and I was super excited. Upon arrival I was seated immediately. We proceeded to sit and wait for 40 very long minutes for our food. This was supposed to be an "all you can eat" toppas type of situation. It made me wonder was this done by design to control the amount of food that was being served??? Idk? I will say that as I looked around this was happening to everyone not just my table. As previously mentioned I've been to this restaurant several times because the food is Always delicious and the service was 5 stars. The food was not good this time. We tried steak and eggs, Deviled eggs, French toast, chicken and waffles, shrimp and grits, crab cake with Hollandaise sauce and yogurt ,with berries and granola. The server didn't ask what temperature we wanted our steak. My steak was medium well and the other steak was rare. We weren't told it was over easy eggs. 1 of us would have preferred scrambled. The only thing I loved was the shrimp and grits and the yogurt and berries. I will also add that $50 was taken off the bill and they comped my drinks. This was greatly appreciated. Had this gesture been accompanied with a pleasant attitude it would have been greatly appreciated.
