This business has now been purchased by Golden Valkey Tire. I brought my personal vehicle here right after the transition, before I realized what was different. I had a fine experience and got quoted slightly above competitors for some repairs. The experience was reasonable overall, although I did feel like everyone behind the front desk was really judging me for not wanting to proceed with some repair options that I were presented to me. I came back a few weeks later with company vehicles since my employer had used this place in the past, and the vibe had deteriorated so much more. This truly is a Golden Valley Tire owned operation and it's not good. Things went wrong from the scheduling of the appointment. The person on the other end of the line was completely fumbling through the system and muttering to himself. He couldn't figure out how to get things to save even. Of course he didn't tell me that though, so when I showed up there was no appointment. I gave them the simple instruction to give the vehicle an oil change so that it would be ready to pick up later. They emailed me a full inspection report which was thorough and detailed, but guess what? They didn't do the oil change. I guess they wanted some sort of approval, but it was a busy work day and if I tell them it's the only reason for my visit I expect it to get done and the vehicle to be ready when I come to pick it up. This place is a mess right now. I hope they can find a way to improve, I understand transitions can be hard, but...proceed with caution if you're considering being a customer here. read more

Extremely dangerous oversight. I brought my car here for brake service, and the mechanic forgot to install the cotter pin on the brake caliper. Because of this, the caliper pin backed out while driving, got severely bent, and ground heavily against my wheel and wheel skin. This could have caused a catastrophic brake failure or locked up my wheel at high speed. A mistake like this is a massive safety violation. read more

Re-review. I can do basic auto work. But it's not always easy. I don't have a car lift. I don't have specialty tools and have to borrow or head to O'Reilly Auto Parts (did you know O'Reilly's has a tool rental program? To rent tools from your local O'Reilly Auto Parts, simply purchase the auto parts you need and put down a deposit on the rental tool. Return the rental tool in its original condition and receive a full refund when you bring it back.) Regardless, Skip's has been my go-to for auto work. Sometimes I don't have the time (or focus or room) or I'm in over my head. They will suss out the problem and do the work at a competitive (it used to be *too* low) shop rate. Apparently it's a different company now. I brought my car in to replace a purge valve. It's a busy time of year for a lot of us, and I was willing to pay to get it done. I walked in and explained the issue. They asked for a diagnostic fee. I had a flashback to my local auto repair shop where I had an ignition coil out and it wound up costing $1,800 total for a 15-minute, top-of-the-motor, single-bolt, $75-dollar-part coil replacement. Which I have done twice since with a ratchet and a $75 coil. I left and changed the purge valve myself. 30 minute, top-of-the-motor, single-10mm-bolt replacement of a $55 part. And now I'm back on the road. I'll stop back, but I'm not so sure I like the way things are going. read more

I called today to have Skip's do an oil and filter change using my oil. They have done this a number of times before at a very reasonable price. I was told they no longer do that. Then I found out that Davy had sold the company. Skip's IS NOT THE SAME SKIP's as before. i'm not sure if they bought the name or not, but they ARE NOT THE OLD SKIP'S. read more

I originally went to a dealership for my heater and the dealership said my truck just had a big engine and needed time to warm up. When the deep freeze came we froze in our truck. I took it here and they flushed the heater and asked that we try and see if it worked, before they did the costly heater core replacement. Heat is working great and They saved me $$. I live in S. Mpls- My local shop has always been good to me (I thought at least) until recently I became suspicious when they said $1231 to simply replace 6 spark plugs on my Lexus RX350. My good friend referred me here and said they have been goin to skips for years. Short story. It was not just my spark plugs but also an ignition coil at $100 each. Smoke was pluming out from under the hood of my Outback, so I went to Skip's for repairs. They fixed what they thought was the problem, but it was still smoking on the way home. I brought it back the next day & waited for it to be fixed. They found & fixed the actual problem (for $300 more than the 1st repair) but didn't charge me for it since they had missed it the day before. It was a simple mistake that anyone could have made, and they had every right to charge me for both repairs, as both parts needed to be replaced anyway. It was an "apology" size mistake, not a $300 mistake. They (Dave, I think) went above & beyond to acknowledge the mistake, AND take money out of his own pocket to make up for it. Wouldn't it be great if we were all so honorable?! Mechanics are like doctors. If you can find one you trust, stick with them! Skip's has my business locked up. read more

Simply the most honest car repair company. Reviews can always be so misleading but in this instance, believe the hype. I made the mistake of bringing our car to another company to be repaired. Previously company did the job incorrectly. The team as Skips found the issue and fixed it same day. It turned out that it was a very simple fix but they found it and resolved. And they didn't charge me for this fix. And I don't give them a high rating because they didn't charge me-not the point at all. Our experience is based on having several cars services and have referred several neighbors to them and everyone raves about their experience. read more

I would "Skip" this shop and avoid extreme mark up on parts. I had my Chrysler towed there when it needed the fuel pump replaced, the part costs around $200 at Napa and Autozone (before the mechanic discount), it was marked up to $281 on my bill. My kind request for a copy of the part receipt was denied, Autozone has a life time warranty on the fuel pump, the shop's is giving me an 18 month warranty on the part. read more
