Amazing, genuine service at reasonable prices. I've recommended this shop to many people for car work and will continue to do so!

Tim and his mech began the work and called immediately to tell us the dealer flat-out lied to us and the catalytic converters were just fine.

I told him I have had fords and they do not drive like that... told me to just turn up the radio to ignore rattles.... I asked whether its motor mounts, he asked if I found info online and blew me off... fast forward 6months... took car into ford dealership for 75k mile service... lo and behold, they found that motor mounts are bad.. on top of that power steering fluid and coolant has gone bad AND an oil leak needing front timing cover repair (est cost ~$2200). so far I have only repaired motor mounts and replaced power steering fluid (leak wasn't terribly bad). Car is extremely quiet and drives like it just came out of the factory. I cannot believe how they ignored my suggestions and didn't even care to look at the car and blew me off saying its a ford. Original dealer I bought the car from (honda) could've covered most of the cost if he actually LOOKED at the car. Never again.

When I asked her to recommend a mechanic for my first car, she said she never had any problem with Gorshe. Although I am male, I don't work on cars, and at the time, this endorsement carried particular weight. That was in 1990, three cars ago. I suspect most people have no frame of reference for a review of a no-nonsense mechanic that has served the Dinkytown neighborhood for over 20 years and treats customers with respect. That would explain why Yelp filtered the first two five-star reviews of Gorshe Auto. So let me provide some balance. There's no 30-point "safety check", no free coffee (although I've never asked), no waiting room or children's play area. There's also no loaner car, and if you have a full-size van or SUV, you might not be able to fit on the lift. On the plus side, I bought my last vehicle, a used minivan in 2005 with 60,000 miles on it, and as of November 2013 I have 185,000 miles. I count on Gorshe to keep it tuned up and stay ahead of the maintenance curve. I have never been stranded. Since the only maintenance work I perform myself is filling the tires, the only reason I could confidently buy a used car is that I knew I could rely on Gorshe to keep it running from day one. Now that I'm in Eagan, it's more difficult to make it over to Dinkytown during the day, since it's a family-operated business and they're only open 8-5. That said, when the 19-year-old at Tires Plus said I needed suspension work or I might have a catastrophic failure, I thanked him for the advice and took the estimate to Gorshe.

Thankfully, that was not my experience at Turbo Tim's. From the very start, things felt different. Before my appointment, I received a fair and transparent estimate for the AC issues I was concerned about. When I arrived, Mike greeted me with a friendly smile and explained the process clearly -- no jargon, no pressure, just honesty. One big bonus? They offer a free ride service for locals to and from the shop. I've never had that before, and it made dropping off my car so much easier. They also communicated throughout the day via text with updates, which I really appreciated. When I came back to pick up my car, the bill was walked through step-by-step, and I was told that if the issue worsens, I can bring it back within a year for a free assessment or fix. It's clear they strive to make everyone feel welcome, no matter their level of car knowledge -- and it shows. I'll definitely keep Turbo Tim's in mind for future repairs. And on a lighter note, the shop's fish tank is pretty cool... and there are multiple friendly shop cats wandering around. I hope they're paid generously in treats and love.

They charged me an arm and a leg for the repair, which I decided to just eat at the time. But when I got the truck back, it was overheating after about twelve minutes of driving, to the point the A/C was blowing hot air. Which it was not doing at all before they'd touched it. I called them up, explained the issue, and they told me to bring it back so they could "take a look." I dropped it off the next day, and they claimed they couldn't find anything wrong. Then they offered to "fix" my A/C with a $300 freon recharge -- which made absolutely no sense. Even though I'm no mechanic, I wasn't born yesterday. When I got back in my truck, I also noticed they'd somehow damaged my driver's seat adjustment controls. At that point I took it to another mechanic in town, who immediately spotted the issue: the thermostat they installed was a cheap, faulty part. The second shop replaced it for half the price and I've had zero problems since. If they want to reply with some generic apology, that's fine -- it's too little, too late. I gave them a chance to make this right, and instead they tried to upsell me on something I didn't need. Either they're completely clueless or intentionally manipulative. Either way, I wouldn't touch this place with a ten-foot pole.

Ok, so I'm trying to take them to court for my damages. Go through the process, I have to have them served the court paperwork at their Corporate location in Lexington Kentucky. Paid to send the summons and have it served by the local sheriff department there. Get this, the attorney at the Valvoline Corporate Office would not accept the service. He would not accept the paperwork, and told the Sheriff that they were not accepting/allowing the court summons to be served to them. In fact nothing can be served there. Look everyone makes mistakes. Why this Corporate giant is acting so thirsty is beyond me. I have had my cars serviced at Valvoline for as long as I remember. I am so disappointed at how shady and irresponsible they are acting. On the whole I know they provide reliable service to thousands if not millions of customers. But everyone makes mistakes so why lie and dodge legal paperwork? This is not right!!! I lost my job behind this. They never even properly investigated my claim. This is a company that is trusted nationwide and they should be held responsible for their screw ups. The manager at the St Anthony, MN location told me "you're on you own". 15 minutes after I got my l oil changed, there was no oil nor oil filter on my car., the engine seized. My receipt from Valvoline says all systems are go. So if there was a previous oil related problem they would have caught it. The fact of the matter is that before I got my car serviced there, it ran just great. I honestly had no issues with it. Now it just sits behind my house. This thirsty irresponsible behavior is not acceptable. Stand behind the service you provide. Do what is right! I know there are probably thousands of people with simular stories. We should all get together and hold them responsible for their screw ups. No one is perfect, Own up Valvoline!!! You are ruining lives and putting lives in danger with this faulty service you don't stand behind. My car seized while driven on the streets. What if I had been on the freeway? What if my car stalled and caused an accident that cost someone else their vehicle or their life? VALVOLINE, A NAME YOU CAN TRUST? I THINK NOT, BEWARE!!

I kinda piled things up with my car and when I finally took it in I was looking for an oil change, new brake light, tire rotation, and air pressure checked. I was hoping I could have all this done for around $125. I left with an $80 bill and they fixed a problem that I had with a tire sensor that I have had for YEARS (MULTIPLE places have offered to fix this for around $200). I was completely blown away. My care needs full synthetic oil and I've been charged upwards of $100 for just an oil change. Southeast was more than affordable and I got one for around half of that. The printout they gave me was very detailed, they didn't offer anything extra than what I was there for and as mentioned before they actually took the time to put the right amount of air in the tires and informed me my sensor was never even broken to begin with. You do need to make an appointment (but I was still able to get in just 2 days out) and drop your car off in the morning. By noon my car was finished and I was able to pick it up. I will absolutely be back and it is honestly the best experience I've ever had at an auto service place.
