My husband and I were in cooper landing for the opening of sockeye salmon fishing on the Russian river. We were camping and ended up running out of food so we stopped here at the end of one of our fishing days and it was one of the best places we have been in Alaska! We absolutely loved this lodge we can hear 3 separate times! It's a beautiful rustically decorated lodge with such friendly staff and a family-oriented customer base. If we lived in the area we would absolutely be coming here on the regular for the friendliness alone! I highly recommend any or their specialty drinks and their burgers with the garlic aioli sauce!

Chicken sandwich and amazing onion rings!

Been going to Gwin's Lodge for years now, whenever we'd be coming through Cooper Landing, if the timing was right. It's a solid place to eat, the food is always good, and the fries are above par, I've been so many times, it's hard to recall anything that's particularly outstanding that I've eaten, where I'd go back JUST for that dish,, but it's always good, plentiful, and fresh cooked. The vibe is rustic, log-cabiny, Alaskan looking. There are dining tables, and there's a bar you can sit at also. Service is prompt, and very accommodating if you don't want this or that on your meal, or want to substitute sides. We were there yesterday, and i realized i had not yet written a review, so time to rectify that. I got the chicken sandwich with Sriracha Aoili, (Hold the onion, tomato and pickle - all give me bad digestive issues) and just lettuce please. You could have it crispy or grilled, so i asked for crispy, served on a Brioche bun. I subbed my fries for onion rings, as I'm also off potatoes - yes that's correct. I. Am. Off. Potatoes. Can't call myself The Potato Lady anymore. Husband got a bowl of chili. Now, as you can see from the picture, i was served an ENORMOUS sandwich. A DAUNTING sandwich. I immediately pulled out one of the 3 enormous chicken tenders, and gave it to husband, along with the dill spear, and an onion ring. He would have taken one anyway. It came out quickly, faster than i expected. His bowl of chili was substantial, and had 2 packs of saltines, and was sprinkled with chopped red onion and grated cheese. My chicken tenders in the sandwich were crispy on the outside, tender, moist and juicy inside. Perfectly cooked. Draped in a nice aioli which added a delicious piquancy to this sandwich. And the onion rings. Omg but delicious. The only reason i didn't give 5 stars was because i had nothing to dip them in, i should have asked for ranch or mayo or something so partly, that's my fault, but definitely, a dip for the onion rings could be one small improvement on an otherwise lovely lunch. I ate all the onion rings, but left a bit of sandwich as it was very filling and substantial. Will continue to visit Gwin's whenever we're down on the Peninsula, cos it's tasty and dependable with good service. I left a higher than average tip, because the server was very accommodating.

Hands down the best grilled halibut I have ever had. We were traveling through Cooper River, but this would be worth the drive regardless. We will be back. Blackened salmon was also amazing, but the halibut was next level. Six stars of I could.

After hiking locally we decided to stop by for a drink and an appetizer. A really nice old Alaska restaurant, store, and cabins. We sat at the bar and ordered cold beers. Can of Rainier was cold along with everyone else's beers. For an appetizer we ordered onion rings and a plate of fries. Both arrived hot and tasty. Bartender did a good job taking care of us.

Gwin's! The food and drink were amazing! If I could eat there once a week, I would!!! I had salmon chowder one day and the halibut tacos another day. The halibut tacos were one of my favorite meals of our trip! Being by the river and the hiking trails, that was also great! There was a mixup with our reservation and it was cancelled for some reason. We were suppose to be in a cabin with a bathroom but in the end was given a dry cabin. The out houses need a lot of work. But the bathroom in the restaurant was all we needed. Good thing I'm a nurse and can hold it for 12 hrs. We bought several souvenirs and would highly recommend Gwin's and we would return. Thank you.

Good Halibut tacos and fireweed vodka cocktails. The service was a bit slow but made for a relaxed dinner.

Everything is setup well and is situated in a great location! Unfortunately, service was awful! We ordered quickly and paid our tab up front ($60 for two chicken sandwiches and a basket of fries - including voluntary 18% tip, but not full-service dining). They gave us a pager and we found seats. Over the next 30 minutes we saw everyone getting food but us. I finally asked the status (politely) and got a seemingly annoyed response. I was told our order was next in line. I waited another 10 minutes and saw 3 more people served (who ordered way after us). I returned to check again and got a deep sigh and rolling eyes (mind you, it's been over 40 minutes at this point). They checked with their cook and he hadn't even started it. We were headed to airport and needed to get going, so when I pressed for an ETA he grumbled it'd be 5 minutes at most. It took 11 more minutes, which put our total wait at 51 minutes from time of order. We were never offered a discount, refund, or even an apology - VERY disappointing!!! The food was okay - but not worth that wait or frustration. We definitely won't be returning.

We stopped in today on the way back from Homer. We knew they had been up for sale for some time,…read moreand our server confirmed it was now under new management. The menu was different but I was happy to see they still had the chicken wrap on there. It went downhill from then. I asked for a Gold Medal Chicken Wrap, with crispy chicken (ranch was not an option, previously it was my go-to choice) you could have hot wings sauces, or honey BBQ - and this is my bad, I initially thought that it said honey mustard, so I said honey mustard. It came with a choice of tater tots onion rings or fries. I chose tater tots, but changed my mind to fries. Husband just ordered a piece of carrot cake. I was very disappointed with this wrap, not just in comparison to the wrap that used to be available, but just as a wrap being offered by a restaurant in general. The honey bbq sauce (I had asked for some on the side, to dip it into) was red. And I couldn't taste any BBQ smokiness. It was very tomatoey. I queried about my honey-mustard error, and she showed me the menu, and that mistake was definitely on me. I asked if she had some ranch I could use as a dip, and was brought some. So anyway, the wrap - loosely wrapped and quite floppy, and warm, as though it had been grilled or broiled, which rendered the lettuce leaf and tomato slice warm, limp and floppy. The previous wrap from Sunrise, and most other wraps in restaurants where I've had them, will serve an unwarmed tortilla with raw crunchy vegetables. The Sunrise previously did so - lettuce, diced tomatoes, diced red onion, shredded cheese, julienned carrots and crispy chicken in a cool creamy ranch dressing, it was a tightly wrapped, crunchy delight, and out of this world. I recommended it to anyone passing that way. The best thing I have to say about this one, is that there was plenty of chicken and it was tender. There was too much of the honey bbq sauce in it though, and the chicken wasn't crispy anymore, the breading had gone very soggy. It was a disappointment. As were the tater tots, when I had requested fries. The server was pleasant enough, and I tipped her well, but I wasn't happy with the food at all. Won't be returning anytime soon

This hotel was by far the worst place that we had stayed on our trip to alaska out of all seven locations. You check in at the restaurant.Although we had to go into the bar to find somebody to check us in and get us a key to the room. The guy was really nice. That checked us in and the price was right. Unfortunately, that was where the good things ended did. The place is clearly very dated, which is totally fine. There are random holes all along the wall, where it looks like other things used to be. Our friends were staying in the room next to us and their carpet was absolutely disgusting. Thankfully, we had some sort of vinyl on our floors. So that it wasn't that bad. Her bedding had multiple tears in it. Nothing in the room matched from the towels to the sheets. When we pulled back the sheets of the bed, there were little specks of what looked like dirt all along the bed, and it appeared that the sheets had not been cleaned. Thankfully, we had each brought a blanket. So we were able to use that to sleep with. It really, truly did feel dirty though sleeping in that bed. We only had two towels in our room for 4 people, so my husband went and asked for another. The only thing that they could give him was an extra hand towel. When I turned on the shower, the way that the shower head was facing the water, just completely shot right out of the shower stall leaving water all over the floor and no good towels to clean it up.
