My wife and I stopped here for a weekday late lunch--had the place mostly to ourselves. We ordered a 4-beer sample flight, a couple of IPAs, a winter lager, and a brown ale. All good, but we were most impressed with the brown--very malty with a nice hop tingle, more substantive than most brown ales I've had, though still less than 5% ABV. The server mentioned it was a new addition to their tap menu, and I hope they'll keep it. We both got a pint to go with lunch. Lunch took the form of the house salad: lettuce and typical salad fixings with bacon and chicken topping it off. Lots of bacon! Wouldn't have minded less, not that I didn't eat every bit. The chicken was tender and juicy, and all the greenery was fresh. Very nice midday meal. While I don't pass through BR very often, I'll make a point of returning here when I do. read more

Bad catering. Don't believe the hype. Owner over sells and under delivers. Don't share concerns or he will say "Fu$k that " and tell you he doesn't "need your business as I have plenty." Promises he has kitchen to cook your event in Grand Rapids and delivers it from Big Rapids. Party of 150 and the food goes cold in 20 minutes with no prep to keep it warm. Our President chose to go to the back of the line and the food was cold when he was served, They ran out of tortillas at a taco bar. His workers are great, the owner does not care. Way cheaper than the competition and you still will not get your moneys worth. Your team will be disappointed. And don't share concerns, he will cuss at ya. The customer is never right. read more

The food here is amazing!! I had an olive burger and onion rings. One of the best burger ever. Tom had potato soup and gyro sandwich, excellent! Please try their Par 9 beer, I'm taking a six pack home. Hailys service was fast and she is so pleasant. We had our meal in less than five minutes!!! This is the second time this year that we've tried to go here to get a stamp in our Hop Passport and the staff and/or owner decides to just close because they don't feel like being there. The last time we did actually dine here it was dreadful. Food was cold and bland. My pretzel sticks were as hard as a rock. And the beer is mediocre at best. We've told ourselves the last two years that "a stamp is a stamp" so we go to get our 2 beers and that's it. But after trying to go there twice now this year and them being closed when they're supposed to be open, we will never try again. At least make a post on social media or something. read more

Note to self....DO NOT ORDER A BURGER HERE. It's dry and small, the onion was dried out and the other piece of onion should never have been on the burger, one small slice of tomato, three pickles and 1 very gross tired and flat piece of lettuce that also should never have made it out of the kitchen. All things were bad about this place. We got there and there were very few cars in the parking lot at 5 pm that should be a red flag. Our party of 6 ordered. The burgers were let's just say under cooked. The burritos were filled with beans and no meat. Kid you not the po boy Mac and cheese was noodles with sprinkled cheese on top? Can anyone explain that to me. We got home and 2 hours later and both people who ordered burgers blew out their brains. The burrito was half refunded. They said there was a new cook. This was fairly close to our hotel so we tried it for dinner. It is a very nice location and building. The food was mediocre and while our server was quite nice, the service was extremely slow. We had to change what we wanted several times because our server said it was out of stock. During our visit there were several tables around us that remained in bussed the entire time we were there. The bathrooms were not very clean and there wasn't any soap. This place looks like it has a lot of potential and it is possible that we were just there at a bad time. read more

This actually pains me to write this review. Cranker's Brewery has been a tradition of my husband and I's for years... probably close to 10+. Whenever we are going "Up North" we stop in BR and go to Cranker's. We have always been big fans of their beer and food. Fifth Voyage Porter has been one of my favorites for years! The bbq, sandwiches, saganaki, etc were always very good and kept us coming back. Over the last few years, mainly after COVID, things have started to decline. The restaurant itself always looks as thought there are some sort of updates going on, but nothing appears to be done, just disarray and mess - this last time there were pieces of the booths propped up as if they were just painted and they were drying and dry wall patches everywhere... and a thick coat of dust on all the tables and a trash bin of construction material overflowing near the bar. It seemed as though they just stopped what they were doing and left everything, not as if they were expecting guests to come in and eat. This last visit was the one that probably stops our tradition. While the service was great, the food was not. Fried pickles appetizer was very greasy (yes, I realize they are fried but these were dripping.) Our server brought out 3 and let us know she was making the kitchen remake the rest as they put 3 plain pickles on the plate with no breading. They were out of pulled pork (we arrived at 4:30pm on a Friday night) so we couldn't get the cuban we wanted. We settled on the cesar wrap and nacho appetizer. The cesar wrap was average and was very understuffed - wouldn't order again. The nachos were not good. They were so greasy - probably a combination of the greasy ground beef (with no seasoning detected), copious amounts of shredded cheese and then a thick layer of nacho cheese. Overkill on the onions, too. Boys had chicken tenders and a grilled cheese, standard - no complaints from them. The insult to injury was ordering a 6 pack of the Fifth Voyage to go and drinking them later that night to realize they tasted like metal and nothing like the draft version. So disappointing. I had the 'All you can eat' Fish and Chips, and it was really good. I received 3 fairly sizable pieces of white fish, lightly breaded, and crispy fried. I told our server that I liked tartar sauce, and she made sure that I had a good amount without having to beg for more. While I was offered more fish (without asking), I turned the extra portion down. On my next visit, I probably would go for the 'regular' menu fish and chips. I think that it is a few dollars less expensive, and 2 pieces of fish would be plenty. I also thought that the coleslaw was great. Good texture and taste. Our service really did a nice job with getting our orders correct, and she was attentive to assuring that we had everything that we needed. read more

We've stopped by here years ago, and remembered the amazing chili dogs, whilst on a recent road trip up north. So, we hopped off the highway and headed downtown to eat! BOY this place has changed. Formerly a diner-type establishment, now it is the same seating, but with a brewery name and some additions to the decor. There's also a brewery back behind the restaurant area, although we did not go in. The seating is definitely older - the booths have cracked pleather seats, and we could not find one that didn't bother our legs (in shorts), so we sort of sat kittycorner from each other. Pros: The waitress was very kind and helpful. She even adjusted our bill after I told her, at checkout, that we didn't get exactly what we had ordered. The menu is quite large, with a variety of things to order. There are still Greek offerings, as well as chili dogs, but they are a small percentage of the menu now. Our pulled pork/bacon hot dog and chili cheese fries were delicious. Cons (and this is a BIG CON): The noise in this place was chaotic at best. There were 2 tvs on different channels, and our waitress muted them at my request (we were the only diners in there). But there was extremely loud country music coming from the kitchen, and extremely loud popular music coming from the restaurant's sound system. It was, by far, one of the most unpleasant dining experiences I've ever had. I could not wait to leave. The dining area is dated - even with a few ceiling gears and a stack of craft beer, it does not look fresh. TIP: So why 3 stars and not less? The waitress, who was amazing. No idea why this place isn't rated higher. Stopped in here while our daughter was visiting FSU. I had the CPR wrap. It was really good. Wifey had Gyro and enjoyed it. Said it seemed fresh. We went here this past weekend on a girls trip to the area. When we arrived we were the only people there and that should have been the first clue to leave. Our waitress was very unprofessional and the food was inedible. We did not finish our food and they did not offer any resolutions. Unfortunately I was pretty disappointed overall with the food and beer. I ordered the brisket Philly since I love both brisket and Philly cheesesteaks but this lacked the flavor of either. Agree with the previous reviews about the wait time for food. Restaurant was not busy, had a steady flow of people in and out, but no more than 5 tables in the restaurant side at a time. We waited a long time for food, over half hour. Walking to our table yhere was a pile of dropped food and paper items which were swept into a pile, they were still there when we left the restaurant. Other than the pile of garbage the restaurant appeared clean. To counter that the food was delicious!! A personal meat pizza came out with only pepperoni, and the veggie calzone was slightly but not overly burnt that it wasn't edible or tasted bad. The bacon cheeseburger was good and a nice size and spme of the most delicious fries weve had in years! Kids pancakes came in the shape of a mickey mouse head w/ears. Cubean was a decent size and came with the same tasty fries! Waiter had a nice personality and adjusted our bill to reflect the correct pizza rec'd. Good food and brews. Usually busy. Service is average. Currently they are "having issues" getting orders from Door Dash. Door Dash cancelled my order after an hour because the restaurant never got my order. I called Crankers and talked to, I think he said his name was Aaron (the manager). He said that they have been having trouble getting orders from door dash. I asked him why he still had his restaurant on Door Dash then if he is going to make people wait an hour just to not even get their food. I will not be ordering here for a while again. Since the pandemic hit a lot of restaurants have stepped up their game with Door Dash and alike to still have bus ones. I guess Crankers in Big Rapids has yet to figure it out. read more

From out of town and also invited out of town family to join. The brewery was not very busy for lunch. A few years back we went and it was really great! But this past Sunday, I decided to never go back. While the beer was good, the service/food was terrible. After we ordered our drinks, we waited over 30 minutes to be served and have our orders taken. At one point another waitress asked if our drink order had been taken. Our waitress did come back and apologize, owned it was her fault. We then waited another ten minutes for our drinks and order to be taken. We were pretty hungry at this point and thinking once we placed our order things would get better. We were wrong. The food took forever. We ordered fried pickles and onion rings, a couple bacon burgers, a Philly sandwich, a wrap, two orders of fish and chips, and wings. The bacon burgers were room temperature. The menu said piled with bacon. Each burger had a single slice of bacon. A SINGLE slice??? Like what??? Also, ordered cheese, but there was no cheese on them. Fish and wings were okay. But everyone had to wait for silverware, napkins and condiments for a few minutes after being served. Appetizers, arrived after we ate and paid the bill!?!! Like, WOW! I've never felt like I've been catfished by a restaurant before. This was a two hour waste of money. Very slow and nothing but the salad was able to be eaten. Absolutely one of the most disgusting meals I've had in a really long time. I ordered the downtown skillet with a side of biscuits and gravy half order. The skillet came out and it was the smallest thing I've ever seen I don't know how I can classified as a skillet. The hashbrowns that were put on there were like ones you would find when you scrape the bottom of a pan. They tried to cover it up with gravy hoping it would soften it there was a one piece of the hashbrowns that wasn't super brown to a crisp. The biscuit was a little bit larger than I would say a half dollar and it was cut in half that's what they consider a half order of biscuits and gravy it was difficult to get any buddy to come help after we were served the next time we saw the server is when they came back to present the checks I've heard so many good things about this place and this was in deed absolutely huge disgustingly disappointment and I can tell you I will not recommended this place to anyone. I very, very rarely leave a negative review or even complain at all at a restaurant. We will never come here again. We have driven by this place so many times in the past 8 years and never felt compelled to try it. Last week Sunday we intended to have lunch at Shuberg's only to discover they're closed on Sundays so we decided to give Cranker's a try. They were busy (half full, so short staffed?) when we arrived at 2pm. No big deal, everyone is short staffed these days. Server was pleasant & efficient. The food was horrid! We ordered the pretzel appetizer; no side plates to eat from, no utensil for the cheese sauce. Fine, we asked and the server brought the items to us. Two orders of chicken strips, a gyro & the brisket Philly. The chicken strips & gyro were okay, nothing special but not great. The brisket Philly was inedible--I literally told my family my shoe would have tasted better. The cheese looked like a piece of melted plastic and then one fatty slice of beyond dried out meat. Server never asked how things were despite only three bites taken. When everyone else was done server asked if I'd like a box. My husband very politely told him no because the sandwich was so terrible. He said "Sorry, I'll let the kitchen know." Comes back with the check, nothing taken off, nothing else being offered in place of the sandwich. Husband asks what the kitchen said? Answer: "They said they'll cook the meat for less time for the next batch". Well thanks, that really helps us and the fact that one person at our table didn't eat lunch today. Husband politely asks if a manager is around today, yes, I can send him by. Manager comes over and says sorry, I can give you a gift card. $100+ dollars with tip (2 chicken strip baskets, 2 sandwiches, 1 appetizer & 1 beer) and we left with a $20 gift card. We will NEVER be back and will warn our friends as well. What would it have cost the restaurant to remove the Philly charge or offer a different meal? Gave the gift card to my neighbors with the promise they get NO food, just enjoy a beer at the bar to use up the $20 gift card. YUCK!
