Gyro Rice Bowl with Veggie Falafel
    Stephanie H.

Ordered the falafel rice bowl for DoorDash delivery. For $15.99, the portion size felt small, and I was left feeling hungry still. Flavor-wise, nothing particularly stood out - the falafel was fine, the rice otherwise bland without the tahini sauce, which was also quite bland and insufficient in quantity. I did enjoy the pickled veggies, but the salad was otherwise scant. I was overall very disappointed, given the large number of positive reviews. I really wanted to like this place, but I can't say that I'll consider revisiting again in the future.

So good! Food was made fast and both people who were working were so sweet i would def recommend :)

We were craving gyros so we got some takeout from Gyro Guys Halal Grill, and it was great! The owner was super friendly and our orders came out quick. All the meals come with your choice of a drink and come in big portions. My boyfriend and I shared a gyro and gyro fries. Both were stuffed with meat! And the pita bread here is so soft, and the tzatziki sauce was light and complemented the meat very well. I also liked how fresh the mixed vegetables were, and wish I could've added some to the fries. I would recommend this place for their generosity in portion quality, since the prices are pretty fair. The food is delicious too!

Food was amazing, Service was top-notch, definitely a place to go with friends. Definitely not crazy to say that this is one of the best gyro spots in the big WA.

Phenomenal food, kind staff, and a clean store. What more could you need from a gyro place. Definitely my new go to.

Now since moving to Seattle, I've been on the hunt for a similar market and Mmarket seemed to fit the bill. This is a small market that most importantly (for me at least) has a small kitchen pumping out classic Iraqi dishes, and also the typical Iraqi breads. Iraqi-Style Beef Kabob ($2.99) - They only had beef kabobs available when I stopped by. They grill the kabobs over a normal gas grill rather than the more traditional charcoal. The temperature and cook time seems to be a bit lacking as there isn't really any developed char or smoky flavors. The smell is almost gamey, but the texture is very tender, and the taste is mild with some allium notes. Charring would greatly improve the anemic appearance and taste of the meat. They serve the kabobs on a wheat pita and for some reason do not include any charred tomatoes, onions, etc that this would normally come with. This is probably the only place to get Iraqi-style kabobs in the area, so I can't complain too much. (3/5) Hummus ($4.99) - This is served in an 8 oz container and they add olive oil and sumac on top before handing it over. The hummus is a bit coarse and has a somewhat strong earthier flavor than a lot of other hummus. Still, this seems to be relatively fresh, without the taste of lemon or preservatives. That's a win in my book, for an area not known for Middle Eastern food. (3/5) Mmarket also sells bags filled with khubz and samoon, which according to the owner, isn't baked on site, but at a bakery nearby. Next time I visit I'll need to ask if that bakery is accessible to the public, just so I can get the freshest bread right from the tanoor, assuming they use one rather than a commercial oven. I gave Mmarket a 3/5 purely because the only comparison point I have is with the Iraqi markets in Dearborn. Let's be real, outside of a select few regions in the US, 90% of "Middle-Eastern" (aka "Mediterranean") food is some abomination of Americanized Greek food mixed with food from the Levant. Of the more authentic 10%, 90% of those restaurants focus on Lebanese cuisine. That last 1% includes places like Mmarket - places that serve authentic food from a specific country in the Middle East. While the execution of the food here is more grocery-store level than restaurant-level, for anyone who wants a taste of real Iraqi food, Mmarket is probably the best in the area. While I wouldn't get the prepared food again, I would come back for the khubz specifically since I don't think there's anywhere else near Seattle that has it for sale.

Everything I tried did not live up to my hype though. I got the impression this was a place with a lot of personality and a good idea just executed poorly by using cheap industrial supplies/ingredients for everything. I got fried chicken that was dry but decently flavored, and waffle fries that were good but nothing special. The sauces here are reeeeally bad though and some were just industrial pre-packaged ones so that'd make sense. I got mac n cheese too that was also extremely bland. I almost wondered if this was like a basic sysco-style shop because it definitely felt like the savory foods were industrial-grade and fairly bland for the most part (not that sysco doesn't have some decent stuff that can be sexied up). On the sweet side I got an ube+vanilla soft serve swirl with a taiyaki shell added which was also just pretty average. The taiyaki was really ugly and malformed but tasted quite good. The vibe inside is extremely weird as well. It has a LOT of personality and local flavor, with various games and toys, foosball tables, instant ramen you can buy and heat up, filtered water stations (mayhaps Korean owned?). You order from awesome giant tablet kiosks that seem to have some poor UX software for the menu navigation system but it works. The chairs and tables though were also very strange, like they were pulled from a shut-down carls jr or something with thin poorly designed aluminium and particle board. Not a single table I found was stable, they all had a ton of wobble and the chairs were so tiny and small none were comfortable to sit on as a 6'2 dude. Honestly I almost want to recommend this place as an experience to see how uniquely odd it is, and the food is right up a college kid's alley and nothing so bad you can't enjoy yourself. At least come here as a tourist attraction and see for yourself what's going on at this eclectic spot.
