My family and I planned a trip to the San Juan Islands. After landing in Seattle, we wanted to grab brunch before heading to catch the ferry in Anacortes. There weren't many dog friendly restaurants conveniently off the freeway, but luckily Yelp led us to Kate's Greek and American! We arrived for Sunday brunch and were immediately greeted by our kind waitress. We sat outside where they had a few tables with umbrellas. When I did come inside it appeared somewhat spacious and busy with neighborhood folks. There are also menus and signs posted with their specials. Service was so lovely, our waitress took wonderful care of us and my pup. She also has pugs so it was nice to hear about that and her recommendations for our visit. It's homestyle cooking--and if feels and tastes like it! I had the Franko Scramble which they were kind enough to substitute spinach for the cheese at no additional cost. The scramble was good and tasted like what you'd expect. The hashbrowns that came with it were huge, thick, soft, and slightly crispy. My family and I ate and enjoyed our dishes. The portions were massive, especially for the price. We're happy we could kick off our trip in Washington with a delicious brunch at Kate's! Had lunch with a friend, second time for me but she and her sister have been going there for quite a few years now. Cute little cafe that serves traditional fare as well as Greek fare. I had biscuits and gravy the first time. This time I had half a BLT with fries and she had a half ham and cheese with fries. We also had spring refresher drinks. I had a cucumber lemonade...so good. She had an orange cream- which she loved too. There were a lot more choices. Enjoyed seeing paintings hanging on consignment. Great support for the community. The also support Cocoon House. We tried this place based on positive reviews. Here are our impressions: Pros - friendly, professional and attentive wait staff; the portions were generous; good toast and hash browns. Nice assortment of hot sauces, including a house made. Cons - the eggs in the Greek gyro scramble were browned, instead of yellow and fluffy, with too many onions and not enough spinach for my taste; the coffee was weak and bitter; the space is very loud, especially with young children present. Food is always good. And our server always remembers us, even though we can't get in often. Coffee's great and the cup is never empty.

It's a small place but there is seating inside and outside so there were lots of people there but it wasn't crowded. The service was great. Quick and friendly! I thought the selection on the menu wasn't the best. It's half breakfast items, which is not what I wanted. I had the patty melt with fries. The burger was pretty good and the fries were great. They gave me a lot of fries. A downside is that their soda is in a can and it's $2.75. That seems pretty high for a can of Coke. I would just get water next time. The area has lots of street parking and I was able to get a good spot on a busy Saturday. read more

I love this place. I fist discovered it years ago as a breakfast place, love their egg Benedict and pancakes and food always cooked just right. Then I discovered their lunch menu so now o come here for lunch, too. Especially love their Western and French dip. But they have other options as well. Service is good. Sometimes you might have to wait because that's how it is when people love the place but you'll get your chance. Place is clean and homey, which is one of the reason why I love it too. read more

Kates used to be a great place to come for breakfast.. I'm not sure what happened though, it feels like maybe they just stopped caring. Every table seemed crusty and unclean, my order was input incorrectly, the food came out with a hair in it.. And to top it all off they raised prices and made the portions smaller. I understand the state of the world and prices increasing all over, but less food for more money? It's sad to see Kates fall so hard, but they really need a restaurant makeover asap - I don't think i would come back again. read more

A super cute little diner right in Everett near the waterfront. I love the homemade jam and the gyro scramble is probably my favorite thing! As usual the sauce was bland....definitely package mix. I had the Greek omelet....NO spices whatsoever. This could have been any old American BF joint. Biscuits were amazing! I did return for a quick lunch on another day. The soup of the day was vegetable...which is not my favorite. Just missed the loaded baked potato which was the choice for the previous week. Since I needed something quick I ordered the eggplant with pita bread. OMG! Sure wish I had taken my camera in. I first thought the eggplant was some sort of 'onion' mush. AND, it was in a very small....think side dish size. It barely covered 1 of the quarters of the pita bread. TOTALLY tasteless. First off, let me just say the staff is absolutely amazing! This is our go to spot on Saturday after jiujitsu with my hubby and some of the people from the gym. First off, I was excited to try this place as the Special board said "Chicken Fried *Chicken*" which is hard to find. Ordered to go, came pretty quick. Get home, it's 2 prev. frozen chicken strips & a side of gravy! For 18.95! My Husband got a Greek hash or something, also $18.95.. it was just over fried hashbrowns with gyro meat, that's it. There are a lot of diner's in Everett and this is probably one of the better ones. The atmosphere of mix-matched chairs gives it a friendly and homey vibe. I personally like that they showcase art work from local artists in Everett. The service we have received however has been mixed between really friendly to somewhat rushed. The food is reasonably priced and comes in typical diner-sized portions (which is to say quite large) and we typically have enough for lunch afterwards. The menu is large ranging from the typical breakfast items to Greek selection. I'm typically drawn to the breakfast options and have not yet tried any of the Greek menu items. So far I've tried the country fried chicken, biscuits and gravy, and omelette, each of which have been incredibly satisfying and have never left me hungry. The hash browns are prepared differently compared to my experiences from other diners with thicker cut potatoes. I think this comes down to personal preference, as I enjoy this but my fiancee has not. read more

One of my proudest little restaurant discoveries. I took all my friends here and took my now wife on a first date here. I live down south now, but if I ever find myself in the area I will 100% be stopping by. They have a wide range menu, great for breakfast or lunch (always go for breakfast though). First time here,knew it was going to be a wait which we were completely okay with. Waiting 40 minutes with just coffee no order taken. And I saw the waitress taking another tables order and asked why and come to find out,they completely forgot to take our order in general. Very apologetic which is nice,but very hungry and irritated. Then went to finish my coffee and took about a 2 tablespoons of coffee grounds in my mouth,so disgusting Had to use my napkin to get the grounds off my tongue. Gyros had good seasonings and so did the French fries. However, the fries came out limp and soggy like they had been cooked in the microwave. The egg Benedict nicely soft poached and topped with generous amount of Hollandaise sauce on it. The service was friendly and with a smile. We were seated promptly but from the time we finished our order to the time the food came out was about a 45 minutes wait. Ugh! Didn't even know this place was here but heard it was delish so gave it a try. We got the veggie benny, original eggs Benedict and the house omelette. The Benedict's were both decent but he sauce was a hollandaise was a bit watery I like it more thick. The eggs were also a bit watery too. I heard the omelette was tasty and my friend raved about the homemade jam. We all loved the hash browns they were extra-crispy. Unfortunately for us we tried it the first time take out which is never the best option. The take out boxes are paper and not styrofoam so all of the moisture really got into the box and everything was running everywhere. The driver had also shown up to he restaurant (almost an hour after our order) only to wait for another 25-30 mins for the food to be ready which was odd. Must be a few kinks to work out there. Delicious food and great service! Where to start. I ordered the Chicken fried steak and eggs. It was seasoned really well. The gravy was delicious. At some restaurants you could tell the sausage gravy is a water and powder mix but not here. The flavoring was off the charts! As for the Hashbrowns they were cooked perfectly with a beautiful golden color. The breading on the chicken fried steak was also seasoned perfectly that had that perfect crunch to it. Also I never once saw the bottom of my coffee cup. Service was great. Everyone on staff was friendly and very welcoming. You could tell they enjoyed what they do and cared about their guests. The bride and I were in need of a greasy spoon and found this place just a few blocks from Holiday Inn. I had the country Benny toast, sausage, scrambled eggs and country gravy on top. Not healthy but pretty tasty hash browns were good as well. the mrs. had eggs over medium and bacon also pretty good. read more
