Both Greek restaurants on Campus Corner are closed on Sundays & I was seriously craving a gyro, so I tried this place which is within walking distance from my apartment. February 2017. The restaurant is still pretty new. It occupies a small place in a strip mall that has been empty since construction. Getting into the place is not a problem but getting out will take some patience. The food is GOOD! There are lots of choices; vegetarians will find enough selections to make a hearty meal. I had dinner at Gyro Hero on a Tuesday. There was one other table seated, but they had a couple of deliveries while I was there. However, OU was out for winter break, so I imagine that when school is in session this place is busier. It's a basic set of tables and chairs, a few posters on the wall (including that picture of gyros that is at every gyro joint in America). There is a TV in one corner and a cooler for drinks, but other than that the place is pretty sparsely appointed. I went with the gold standard, a gyro and fries. Also, I noticed gyro wontons on the appetizer menu, which are exactly what they sound like: gyro meat, diced onions and tomato, wrapped in a wonton and fried. They're served with tzatziki on the side and come 6 to an order for $4.99. Even though it was only me, a gyro/wonton mash up sounded too good not to try, so I got the appetizer. Gyro hero serves its fries with harissa aioli. I also got a side of the "shug" sauce, an herby green sauce made with garlic, cilantro, and jalapeno. This was 59 cents to add. My food came out in less than 10 minutes. So quick I was worried that nothing was freshly made. But, the fries and wontons were very hot, and the gyro had steam rising as well. The fries are standard, you've had these in a bunch of places. And, they weren't seasoned, so I added a healthy dose of salt and pepper. The sauces were very good. The harissa aioli was creamy with a nice pepper flavor, but I could have used more heat. I think they tamped it down too much. The shug sauce was my favorite. It was fresh, herby, and had a nice kick from the raw jalapenos. This was good on both the fries and the gyro. The gyro was stuffed very full of meat, veggies, and sauce. The yogurt sauce was on the bland side for me. They should mix in some shug into the tzatziki, then you'd have something. The gyro meat was flavorful and was given a bit of time on the flat top, resulting in a nice little crust on the edges which I really enjoy. The pita was just warmed, it wasn't toasted at all. The sandwich eventually fell apart it was so large. It's a large sandwich and I think it's a reasonable price ($9) for the sandwich and fries. The wontons were disappointing. Overly greasy, they were very basic. It wasn't the great innovation I was hoping for. But, the wonton was crispy, so there's that. I also think that $5 for 6 of these was a little high. I wouldn't get them again. Had I not ordered the wontons, I'd probably give Gyro Hero 4 stars. Gyro Hero isn't close to my house, and I would have to drive past several gyro places to get over to that side of town. But, I really enjoyed the gyro and want to definitely get some shug sauce again. So, even though it's not close, I would return. read more

This new Mediterranean place is perfect for the SE side of Norman! They offer good appetizers (hummus, falafels, greek wontons), salads, gyros, and combo platters. And very well-priced for the quality of what you get. I tried the 4-option combo platter with hummus, falafels, salad, and subbed in gyro meat (+$2). Everything was really good! You can tell it's homemade. They even buy their pita bread from a local Mediterranean bakery up in OKC! The owner was nice, and the food came out FAST. This is a new Mediterranean restaurant just opened in in Norman, so I decided to try it out. I tried the gyro with fries combo, food was okay. But probably won't try the same stuff again. The meat was really salty. The gyro itself was kind of plain but I liked the fries though. Overall, the restaurant is clean and customer service was good. I used to really like this place. The taste is awesome, the guy with the long hair was such a friendly person. However, I am changing my review to one star after almost two years of five stars. Because, THEY DO NOT WEAR MASK at all! The city made it mandatory for the public health. It is not something we wear for only our own safety, but also for the others. I completely understand it is hard to wear all day, which I am also struggling in my own work place, but I became used to it. I respect health workers who have been wearing it for so many years without complaining. And we need to do our part to help the health workers to have little rest. I also do not want to be a reason of any death or sickness. If I would not know and do it, I would say God knows my intentions were different. But now, we all know we can spread the virus by not wearing the mask. God knows, too. Even if we will not see, if a person would hurt because I did not wear a mask and infected that person, it is not unintentional anymore. God knows. This possibility makes me wearing mask properly, everyday when I am not home. I told them to wear mask for others. And that super friendly long haired guy, became aggressive to me. I am very disappointed. I don't think I would ever go there again. I needed to bake all of the food I got got from them, at home at 300 degree for half an hour to ensure that everything would die. But, I was still not feeling enjoying from the food. It is not always the taste you enjoy. I hope they will keep safe and healthy. This is my go to place for a gyro or a Greek salad with gyro meat! Not really a fan of their chicken though it's a little dry. The hummus they have with a hint of jalapeño is my favorite. Got my order mixed up and had to return they said the would cook my order fresh since they gave it away to another.
