It has been a few years since I have been to the Gyro Shack. I didn't have the best service the last time I came which was about 4 years ago. I wanted something quick that wasn't a burger or taco so I decided to give this joint another shot. I have actually been here twice in a row. I was here yesterday as well. I remember I got a side Greek salad with my gyro one time and that's honestly what I wanted. It sounded like a clean and light lunch in this crazy summer heat. I placed my order at the drive thru. Both times I was helped by some nice employees. I appreciate that they didn't make me feel like I needed to order more than I wanted. They both got my side salad ordered and I drove up to the window. Both times I was rang up and was given my bag with a great smile. I got my goods and was on my way to work. The Greek salad is so good. I love the freshness of all the veggies. The feta and kalamata olives are my favorite part. The dressing that comes with it is light even though it's olive oil based. One side isn't enough, I'll have to grab two the next time I grab another salad. I'm happy I have this joint another shot. They are conveniently on my way to and from work. It's a healthy and quick lunch. I look forward to my many salads in my future from this joint. It's my new summer fixation meal. read more

Gyro shack was not what I imagined it to be. I ordered their rice bowl, and it literally tasted like the microwaveable rice from dollar tree. They also didn't give us tzatziki sauce for my bowl since I ordered the original bowl, which also shouldn't come with lettuce, but it came with it anyway. 3 star for the fries and the mini pita wraps. Very quick service, no one was in line, ordered quickly, was greeted by a nice gentleman. Smooth transaction got my food, was eating it in parking lot and the rice is stale and hurts my teeth to chew it, so each bite was slow chewing. I decided to go back and let them know. Customer service was fantastic and replaced my dish with another. However the rice was still the same so that was disappointing. Other than that the flavors were good. No, no, and no! 15 minutes in the drive through with only two cars in front of me. Of course, there is a second lane on the other side. I don't know why they have two lanes when they don't have the capacity to serve that many customers timely (with walk up business too...) Order taker got my order wrong, despite seemingly clear communication. I said TWO kids meals and when it came to drinks, said BOTH with Dr. Pepper. I didn't catch that the total with the adult meal was a little low and might have alerted me to the mistake. My oversight there. Got our food finally. Yep, missing one of the kids meals. Also, missing the fries for the kids meal? And the chicken strips are literally plain chicken strips, no breading, not anything like what is traditionally called a chicken strip. About 30 minutes after eating my Gyro, which was decent except for being quite salty, I was sick as a dog. I felt awful. I threw the chicken strips away. The stand is clean, lighting is well lighted for a drive up in a safe environment with staff that are super friendly. The Greek salad. Terrible service! I work Less than a mile away from the gyro shack, and I love Mediterranean, so I come here often but everytime I come they mess up my order or forget something. And keep in mind this is not during rush hour but I would pay for extra sauce and not get it, and I check the bag and they always forget and sometimes I get a kids meal as a snack and they would give me one less tender and less fries. AND IT NOT JUST ONCE. They cheat you in a way you notice but the time you do you've left. I'm disappointed. read more

I ordered a #8 falafel rice bowl and when I got home, I realized that the worker had given me a bowl with gyro meat, avocado, and bacon. I drove back to the location and told them about the mixup and they told me they would fix it for me-- I came back home only to find that they didn't make a new bowl, they just picked the meat out and added falafel, leaving the avocado and bits of meat. I am a vegetarian and couldn't eat this bowl because it had bits of meat all over it. Most disappointing experience I've ever had at a restaurant. Also- the worker told me that their entire menu on their computer is not the same as their posted menu out front. So fair warning that this will happen to others. read more

Had been wanting to check this place out for a while and am so glad I did! Their Greek salad is DELICIOUS! My only gripe is that they're pre made so I can't get it with no tomatoes (and there are A LOT of them!). All in all, it's a solid salad and comes out to about $8. Definitely will try more things on the menu ASAP! read more

I did not reach out because I didn't want to have them treat me different than any other customer, but I think his response was great. ORIGINAL POST: Hours posted are incorrect! Drove all the way over from the house and got there at 8:32 PM (28 minutes before advertised closing time of 9 PM, figured it would be okay) and they were closed! Even the window said they close at 9 but the open sign was off and nobody answered. Maybe they had some sort of issue and had to close early? Still no sign posted saying so! read more

I've been coming here for years and typically love it however recently this place has gone so far downhill. The service is rude, and the quality of food is meh. I went there today and ordered two different gyros salads and a gyro. The salads were supposed to come with taziki sauce but they charged me extra for it. I asked for no onions on one salad. When I got home the salad with no onions had onions (lots of roughly cut onions) and the spicy bacon avocado salad didn't have any of the spicy sauce that it's supposed to have. When I called them to say they forgot the spicy sauce and put onions on the salad they were extremely rude about it saying "well what do you want us to do, give you extra spicy sauce on your salad next time?" Do yourself a favor and skip the over priced crappy quality food that you'll find here with a side of extremely rude workers. read more

I only get the original Gyro andThe flavor is very consistent, (and good). sometimes they are a little weak on the toppings but really it's just a drive through Gyro shack. They do have a few tables outside if you would like to sit and enjoy your Gyro on a nice day, otherwise just a drive-through. Everyone that I have encountered working at this location is very personable polite easy to deal with. Definitely my second favorite gyro shop on earth! "Where do you get your Baklava?", I asked the very nice young woman who was assisting her co-worker with my order at the window. I was hoping for a response like "Zorba's grandmother". Or at least a good local bakery. When the reply was "Food Service of America, maybe. Someplace like that." I knew this was was chain focus food not family focus food. As I waited on my order, I set my expectations for outcome accordingly. That said, expectations were exceeded. The two folks working in the kiosk / shack were very friendly and efficient and the gyro my husband and I ordered was pretty darned good. I'm no expert on the specialty (on the subject of Italian food I could have a far more informed opinion) and I'm not really even sure I know how to eat a gyro properly. But the Super Veggie Patty gyro, made with all the fixins' of fresh tomato, lettuce, spicy sauce (which is sricacha, I'm pretty sure), pepperoncini, feta, kalamata, hummus, avocado slices and tzatziki was nicely wrapped and boxed up to go (there is no seating here, it is a drive through) and made a nice 'splitsie' dinner at home. When I asked about the gyro meat offered on all the options but those which are veggie, I was told it is made of a lamb and beef blend. We were hoping for an all lamb option, (a meat we eat), instead of beef (a meat we don't eat) being included in all. But we choose vegetarian options most of the time anyway and we were happy to see a single one, "Veggie Patty Pita", on the menu. "Is the veggie patty like a felafal?", we asked. "I don't know what that is", said the nice young man behind the window, "but I think this one has chickpeas in it." Seriously. For the record, it was like a flat falafel. When we asked if we could get the "Veggie Pita" that came with all the fixin's like a deluxe gyro it was the nice young woman who said while no longer on the menu as it once had been, we could order and they could make a Super Veggie Patty Gyro that came with everything. And that is the story of how we came to enjoy our tasty take out dinner. Big enough to feed two lighter eaters for under nine bucks. Would we go back for take out here? You bet. And order the same thing again? Happily. Be aware "their chain shows" in some items and this is a drive through. But if you're a gyro afficiando (we're not there yet), we imagine this is a very good place to be. The Gyro Shack rocks it. I enjoy both their Deluxe Chicken Gyro and their Greek Salad Pita. Always fresh. Always ample. Always delicious. I've also ordered and enjoyed their hummus with pita bread. A word to the wise, though--the serving size is huge. They give you a good 12 or so ounces of hummus. We enjoyed it for days (definitely not complaining!). The prices are amazing. Three of us each got a gyro, and shared the hummus side for less than $20! Also? The service is Michael Phelps in the pool fast. Which is to say, they deserve several Olympic medals for the speed of service (especially considering how fresh and wonderful everything they're serving is). You drive up, order, and a couple short minutes later you're driving away, food in hand. I'll take The Gyro Shack over many other forms of fast food any day of the week. Get to it! read more

In my opinion, this place has the best gyro in town. The price is very reasonable, and the service is usually fast. Having said that, however, the line can get long during lunch time. I drive from work (Cloverdale and Chidden) to grab lunch, but sometimes, I can't make it back in 30 minutes. But still worth it!! They used to have more options on the menu, and I'm bummed to see some of my favorite items gone. The items on the current menu are still great, and you should really check it out if you haven't already. It would be wonderful if they have a location in the east side of Boise! read more

I came into the gyro shack because I was absolutely ravenous. I had skipped breakfast and it was already about 1 PM. I was waiting on my vehicle to be repaired across the street at a shop. You know how everything tastes really good when you're starving? Well, these guys managed to break that mold without even trying. First the Gyro: I ordered the spicy. I could taste no space at all. In fact I couldn't taste anything but salt. All the way through the half that I ate all there was was salty meat and salty vegetables. Easily the worst gyro I've ever eaten. Their sign shows that fries are a new thing on their menu. I had ordered a combo so it came with fries. They were cold. I don't like cold fries. I took them back to the window and asked the attendant if I could please get some hot ones. She looked puzzled. Still, she said she would. A few minutes later she open the window and said "here's your fries". They had literally sprinkled five or six hot fries on top of the cold ones that they had already given me. This was quickly realized after I ate the few hot fries they put in the bag. For three dollars a bag, you'd think you could get some decent hot fries. Not here. The meal also came with a soft drink. The Pepsi was good. The only good part of the meal. It probably goes without saying, but I'll never eat there again. read more

Wow! Lots of menu choices! This is a cute little shack in a supermarket parking lot on Overland Road. It has a window to drive by and take your dinner home, or you can walk to window on other side and eat outside at a couple of picnic tables with umbrellas. I ordered the Gyro Plate for $6.99. This is a review from someone who has gone to Gyro shack for about the last 10 years. I noticed the decline in overall quality and increase in cost as soon as the new owner took over. I also feel bad for anyone who enjoys the chicken/bacon/ranch gyro currently as they missed out on the previous version of which had chicken that was perfectly spiced and cooked on a rotisserie broiler and then was trimmed from there. I'm assuming the new management removed this to cut costs and unfortunately this isn't the only food item that has seen this fate. If you want better quality and more food for your money Greek/Mediterranean food go somewhere else. read more

I hit this place every couple of months when I'm out state Street. I was really disappointed this time. The euro meat was really salty and not flavorful and the sauce tasted like some kind of salad dressing from Winco or someplace. Started price gouging! I've been eating here for at least a decade. Prices have always been fair and Gyros are great. Inflation sucks and is a part of life in 2022...but Gyroshack got greedy. 36% increase. Sorry, you'll need to resolve your business model as I'm not paying $8 for a Gyro...no other fast food has gone up 36%, you're being greedy. Ironically as other reviews have mentioned, they don't even pay their employees enough ($7.50) to eat at their own restaurant! When you're driving slave labor and implementing massive price increases you know this establishment has jumped the shark. Interesting to hear they have fairly new ownership...go figure. read more

What's super sad about this place is the new owners don't seem to understand what made it great. For what it WAS I'd give it 5 stars, happy fast service, great food! They have the best gyros, certainly the best in Boise. The Z is delicious and the super is huge and excellent every time! Lamb, bacon, pita bread and veggies are always fresh and on point. What made it popular was that it was talked about by everyone, and I mean everyone, how it was such a great deal. A place with low overhead that built its loyal clients by actually passing savings along to them. I like the new menu concept simplified with pictures and all. The new owners raised the prices of all the gyros and specials etc. I think the sides are all the same but .50 for a couple tomato slices or peppers is overpriced anyway. Overall it's still delicious and I'll come back for sure, just not as often. You used to be able to feed two people for about $10-12, now it's over $14-17. I get it, just a few bucks but that's a 30-40 percent increase. I guess I just think it's too bad the prices are the same as a if they had a restaurant overhead. Mazzah down the street is $2 less for nearly the same gyro, and way more overhead, no kidding. Bottom line: still great flavor and quality, but it seems the new ownership has put price ahead of its loyal customer base. I tried this place not expecting anything wonderful, just something quick to eat, but instead was left highly impressed! I have always enjoyed a good gyro, and this was definitely in the upper quarter of places I have tried. The meat was well seasoned, the tzatziki was delicious and all the ingredients tasted fresh and crisp.Gyros are something that can easily be ruined quickly, this place does a great job to avoid all of those mistakes. The one thing holding it back, is they need to have falafel! It acts as a great alternative to the gyro meat for the vegetarians or people looking for a little less meat that day. It is a necessity at any gyro shop because it maintains the flavor and idea of the Mediterranean. The veggie substitute was okay, but definitely detracted from the potential. If you are looking for a traditional, deluxe gyro however, this place is pretty hard to beat!! I am glad to see that there are more and more of these! read more
