It was kinda bad in my opinion. This is spoken out of experience with middle eastern cuisine. I tried the chicken swarma on top of rice and it looked good and I was very impressed with it that is until I took a bite and realized it had no seasoning or flavor compared to the other restaurants I've had swarma at. The rice tasted like nothing, no seasoning what's so ever. The chicken had basal and rosemary but definitely was extremely basic in taste. It tasted like something that could be made by my dad or even myself. The sauce was also lacking flavor as well. The overall food tasted like it was drowned in salt rather than by superb spices that Greece and other middle eastern countries are known for. Please if you want some good middle eastern food. Picked up lunch today for me and my mom. Got the gyros platter. The sandwich is HUGE, they put all the salad and sauce on the side so you can make your own. I got the Greek salad which was nice but I wish the dressing was more flavorful. Definitely get your money's worth here. read more

This place definitely deserves all the five stars. It's delicious and you can tell the owner really cares about his business, his costumers, and the food he pus out. I got the gyro dinner plate with a side of fries and sauce. The sauce was so yummy and authentic and the fries were fried to perfection with just the right amount of crisp to them. Of course the gyro was a good portion side and also very delicious. The place had a ambience for Christmas with Christmas piano music playing on a fire place on the tv displayed. The environment is ok, nothing special. The food and the service however are excellent! I especially like that the owners son (maybe 10 years old?) runs the cash regester on the two Saturdays that I have been here. I am a big fan of family run small business and this one is no exception. I recommend the spicy gyro meal with spicy fries. read more

Food was great! We had three entrees - Gyro salad - WAY too many onions. Would have been nice to have at least a wedge of pita to help load my fork. Gyro/hummus platter - delicious. Huge portion. Fish sandwich and fries - 14 year old loved it. People so nice too! Why only 4 stars? Because the food came out staggered. Should have all come out together. We will be back for sure! read more

This little cafe is the real deal. I am kicking myself for having avoided it for so long, thinking it was too clean and strip-mall-y to be any good. The inside is super clean and the food tastes so fresh - definitely made with quality ingredients. It is the best Middle Eastern food I have had since I actually lived in the Middle East. In the last decade, grudgingly, Racine has finally gotten some variety in its international cuisine. We lost the one shot at Indian food that we had, but we've gained a Korean, 2 Thai & an Afro-Caribbean, so I've been super-pleased. But we've been missing the middle-eastern flavors that we get in other cities. Who knew that a gyro place (I don't really eat gyros) would have kickass middle-eastern?!?! I guess it was here for some time before we heard. Oh, well, now we know... And can't stop going back!!! It's soooo good! The shawarma: great, the hummus: great, the tabuleh salad: solid!!! But it's the felafel sandwich that I can't stop eating. I go almost weekly. The family that owns it are class-act, kickass rock stars, and have become pals. I sit inside, and watch crappy daytime tv, and eat the pillowy flatbread sandwich, slammed with crunchy zesty felafel, tomato, onion, a slather of soft hummus spread - and ordered just a little spicy!!! So damn good! On the best days, they have Capri Suns or green grenades to drink!!! You never know?!?! I hear the gyros are good, too. read more

I'm going to agree with most of the reviewers so far. This is one of those places Yelp was made for. It's nice, but not impressive. Clean, well kept, but it doesn't really stick out. The gyros plate was a reasonable size, not huge, but acceptable for a lunch. The hummus plate was very good. Found a new combination I wouldn't have otherwise thought of, hummus with spicy fries, actually pretty good. The owner came out a couple times just to check on us, nothing big, just came out to see if we were doing OK. It's a gyros restaurant tucked in so that it's not easy to find. For the area, it's very nice, and it's not busy. It's a definite try it and see if you like it restaurant. read more

I was expecting more. I chose Gyro Express because of the reviews and the gyro plate didn't live up to the hype. I received a ton of fries and a skimpy little gyro. For $9, I could have bought a better meal at McDonald's. Gyros are easy to make and believe they could have done better and made a better sandwich. Wonderfully fresh middle eastern fare served up by a terrific local family. The food is flavorful and very reasonably priced considering the portions. I've tried at least half of their offerings and never had a bad meal yet. My wife and U like to order a variety of things and have a feast! Ate here with my in-laws and wife last sunday, and enjoyed the meal. We had good variety as we ordered: Gyros (Gyro was pretty good, and enjoyed the raw red onions to cut the salt in it). Italian Roast Beef w/ spicy fries (Fries were surprisingly good) Falafel platter (they offered to let us try baba ganoush alongside the hummus and falafal, which was really good. The falafel was slightly too salty, but hasn't been in the past, so maybe just this one time). I forgot what my wife had, but the rice that it came with was very good. It was very flavorful and enjoyable. As a visitor from NYC, I'd say the Gyros are pretty much similar to the experience you'd get in NYC, which is pretty decent. There is good variety, and the servers were very friendly. Prices are good and portion sizes were decent as well compared to the other placed we ate at during the week. It was a very well run family restaurant and we will be back when visiting the area again. read more

Not what I had expected. There are some good and not so good. The gyro was good. A rather large pita and very generous portion. The sauce was good but seem stored on too cold of a setting...almost cream cheese like. The restaurant does have a nice TV set to a local channel. The tables and chairs seems like an afterthought...they seem disorganized. The menu while impressive as it is 5 tvs...they need to use more readable fonts. I work very conveniently located next to this establishment. I decided to try it out since I forgot to pack a lunch. I called up and asked if it was possible to them to walk it over to me and they were more than happy to. An hour goes by and still no food... I called them up and he apologized and told me he would bring one on the house. 10 minutes later, my tastebuds were tantalized. The pita was so soft, the meat was so flavorful and in BIG chunks, their tzatziki was not bland by any means. I even asked for extra onions because I'm used to needing them for added flavor and I didn't even use them. I might just need to forget to pack a lunch more often. read more

I would probably rate this as more of a 2.5, but not quite a 3. After reading the reviews for this place, I have to say that I was disappointed. I ordered 3 gyro plates, 2 with fries and one with rice. The rice was sitting in either a rice cooker or a slow cooker on the counter. Needless to say, it was clumped together and not at all flavorful. The gyros were okay, but nothing special. The tzatziki sauce was homemade but was also pretty bland. The food was hot, and ready right when we arrived to pick it up. The cucumber sauce was very cucumbery - that's the only way to describe it. The gyro meat was okay, not my favorite, but was good. (It was a bit bland) The fries & mozerella sticks were great. The price was great as well. Went for the first time today. Very nice people running this business. My husband had the Italian Beef sandwich - and he raved about it. You know it's good if he doesn't have to put ketchup on it. I had the Gyro plate. It was ok. The gyro meat was pretty bland and the sauce needs a bit more flavor. I'd go again and try something else. If not a meal they have ice cream that they actually scoop.
