Top tier lunch option in Racine, it's the best soup and salad or soup and sandwich combo you can find! Food was delicious and fresh, quality ingredients no bagged shredded lettuce or anything like that. Beyond that the folks working there were very nice as well. Only down side is the parking lot was a gravel one and a little muddy with the snow thaw but I'd walk through it 7 days a week no problems read more

Soups were great, a mix of good tastes and daily soup changes. Tried a few different sandwiches and they were all OK, felt like they needed more cheese or a sauce. Tried the Friday fish fry, it was ok. Tasted like frozen stuff very perfect in shape and look. Coleslaw was good, red potatoes were ok. But prefer Culvers fresh cod with odd shapes and different crust edges etc. Will try their grilled cheese, pork, beef sandwiches and fries' next time. read more

Adorable little lunch spot. Very cozy inside with an outdoor patio in summer. They have a variety of sandwiches and salads on their regular menu and a rotating menu of soups. I've never been let down by anything I've had there. Fun fact: they have a frozen soup menu to take extras home from other recipes! read more

This little place is well worth a stop. The soups change daily but I have never tried one that I didn't love. The staff is very helpful on pairing soup and a sandwich. The Italian beef is my husband's favorite. The place is small but you can carry out or eat outdoors in the summer. read more

I really, really want to give a better rating here. But I will have to visit a few more times and try more stuff on their menu. The owner and staff are super friendly, the decor is cozy and inviting, the location is somewhat in the middle of nowhere when you need it, and you really get a "home" vibe here. Despite the fact that I arrived 5 minutes before their closing time on a snow covered evening, they were quick to service and didn't rush me. They also upgraded my 16 oz bowl of chili to their quart size, probably because I was their last customer, but super nice regardless. Very unfortunately, the chili was just not very tasty. Hubby and I hate to waste food, so we don't want to throw anything out, but it's been a few days and the leftover portion of the chili is still sit-in gin our fridge and hubby won't touch it until I doctor it up. We also shared a BLT wrap, which tasted very homemade and healthy. So for now, this place is a-OK. A lot of my friends love the place though. 19$ for a small cup of chilli and a veryyy small bltt wrap. Biggest rip off ever. I did add avocado for an extra $1.50, but it was hardley noticable, neither was the bacon. There was one or two very small slices of bacon, same with the avocado. The wrap was about 8-9 inches long, and only 2-3 inches wide. The deli turkey (being the bulk of the small wrap) was obviously not top knotch either. Dont go here unless you dont mind spending 3-4 times what I normally costs for food. And no, there menu doesnt even mention anything about organic ingredients or free range meats etc. The owners just simply like to bone ya, and hard.! read more

Well made soups and sandwiches. I had the club wrap with parm fries and cauliflower soup. My date had the taco soup with the h and bacon grilled cheese. Everything was great except the taco soup. It was just too sweet, I'm assuming from Chipotles in Adobo. My soup was very cauliflower forward, with a good cheesy aftertaste that didn't take away from the base. My wrap was one of the best ones ove had in a long time. Very balanced amount of ingredients. And they did the perfect amount of mayo, which always seems to be over or under in my experience with wraps. Definitely worth trying. read more

Soup Shanty is a customer favorite for many in this locale. And for good reason they have tasty soups with the claim to fame being all homemade! It's a nice treat here and there for sure. My hot cabbage soup unfortunately leaked out spilling all over my car seat! So much disappointment on two levels, no food which I was really looking forward to and now my car is a disaster! I called in the moment hoping for understanding, perhaps an apology, some accountability and compensation in someway! I got none of that just an earful of defensive words spewing in my direction. We've all been in the situation as a customer. Meet me in the middle. Something small goes a long way with the customer. Service with a smile. As a proprietor would an extra bowl of soup really have caused a dent in their finances? What would be the harm in fulfilling this one request? Was it a matter of sticking it to me the customer; how dare she have the audacity to ask this of us? I was told the owners were not present and once it leaves it's essentially not their responsibility. This is the dictionary definition if you will of poor customer service. It is the customers who make for a business. I enjoyed it, twas a good run, but I will not be returning sadly. read more

Location / Atmosphere - Nice surprise didn't expect the atmosphere from the outside. Very clean and well managed. Came in early to grab a quick bit for lunch and get a little work done. Resurant filled up quickly and I felt bad tieing up a table. So myy visit was cut short. Food / Beverage - I had the Chili and 1/2 Bevarian sandwhich was perfectly done and a perfect size. This place has food ranging from soups to salads to sandwiches with daily specials - my family has been coming here once a week for the past several months and have enjoyed many items on the menu. This evening's stop at The Soup Shanty was my fourth or fifth since it opened in late spring. I haven't been disappointed once! Our haul this evening included a thick, delicious Beet & Apricot soup whose appearance on their Facebook page this afternoon (they update daily with their soup offerings) is what sent my beet-loving family scrambling to get there. In addition, we grabbed the Summer Strawberry Salad (a repeat order for us; each time, the thickly sliced berries and generous whole walnuts have been wonderful), a Quinoa & Mandarin salad (loved it!), the Italian Beef & Provolone Sub (fave of my 10-year-old) and the Club Sandwich (meaty, cheesy, excellent). Supporting local small businesses is important to us but I'd be lying if I said that was our primary reason for putting this place on our list of regular stops. Truth be told, the food is simply fresh, fabulous and priced just right. read more

The tomato basil soup was watery and black pepper blanked out any basil flavor. Clam chowder was better but it didn't taste like clams! These two were over-priced. I don't know if the other items were good or not. One of my friends got the 4 soup sampler, and the only one she thought was good was the chicken noodle soup. There are many better places in Racine to eat. The music was blasting & we had to yell to hear each other, and when I asked the waitress if it could be turned down, I got a scowl & my request was ignored. They offer a pretty large and varied menu of sandwiches and daily soups (I think I counted 5 or 6 different soups). The stuffed pepper soup was perfect temperature and extremely tasty. Way better than expected. The buffalo chicken panini was also perfect. I could actually taste the blue cheese! The sandwich was full of all the right flavors. Surprinsgly disappointed tonight. 4/5/2019 Carry out of north Atlantic cod and a large container of clam chowder. The cod had a different coating which was pleasant to see, original for sure but definitely over spiced with thyme. The optional roasted cubed potatoes has the similar spice which overwhelmed my taste buds. The clam chowder left a powerful aftertaste of oregano. That definitely was a first for me. This unfortunate experience is our first with the Soup Shanty. I certainly hope it isn't a sign of things to come. read more

I've gone to the Soup Shanty since they opened several years ago. I've always been pleased with the food. Sadly, I won't be returning as the employees don't think it's a priority to wear masks during a once-in-a-generation global pandemic. I stopped in last December - no masks. Last week - no masks, plus the owner and the cook gave off very unwelcoming & icky vibes. I've heard the same from many co-workers who also use to frequent this place. Stopped yesterday and was treated to a very unfriendly indifferent young lady who was taking orders and acting as a waitress. Didn't deliver full order to outside table so I had to go inside and ask for rest of my order. Had been there previously and was always pleased. PLEASE BE AWARE THAT NONE OF THE EMPLOYEES INCLUDING WAIT STAFF WORE MASKS. This made me very uncomfortable and I would not go back for that reason.
