I've been wanting to try Fincher's since moving to Macon, I've heard good things about it. Finally got a chance to stop bye. I was not impressed to say the least the size of the sandwich was the size of the burger at McDonald's. I'm not one to judge bbq sauces but I like what I like and I found theirs had way too much vinegar for my taste. The fries nice and crispy and the peachy cobbler was fairly tasty. Meh. This place is fine if you're in the area, but I wouldn't go out my way for it. What's most confusing is why it was written up for Food Network. Like haven't they had better barbecue than this? This is the best middle Georgia has to offer? the rib "plate" cake with two decent ribs and one shriveled, tough little reject of a rib. While it wasn't expensive, I also didn't find it to be a great value, either. STEAMER RIBS? The ribs I ordered had kind of a bland, waterlogged quality. Like they'd been sitting around for a good while in a steamer basket or something. The flavor was okay. Just bland. And I'm not super into spicy food just to be clear. This is for the lot who maybe thinks mayonnaise is too "spicy." Maybe the ribs would have been better if they'd just come out of the smoker? The sauce was fine. I don't typically like vinegary sauces, but it wasn't like Carolina level vinegar... so fine, but not great. If it were served to me at a picnic I wouldn't complain, but I wouldn't rave, either. I go to pick up my mom and leave with 2 pounds of pulled pork and two sandwiches for the road without fail. Fincher's BBQ is the place that I visit every time I go to see my family in Georgia. The outside makes the place look small but they make up for it with large flavor. Their BBQ has a strong vinegar base to it. I've never been a fan of vinegar-based BBQ,however this place is certainly the exception. I would love to be in the kitchen and learn their secrets. They have a small dining area inside that's always packed and a drive-through window where people can get their BBQ fix on the run. I always keep it simple and get pulled pork sandwiches. We were heading home from Atlanta and decided to stop in for a quick bite. When you first drive up you are transported back to the 50's and 60's era. I could see this place in its hay day. I could imagine stopping by after church for a super and some fries. That's about where the good part of this review ends. The food was okay. The pork on the super reminded me of the pork sandwiches from the school cafeteria. The fries needed salt, and the peach cobbler was mostly dough and had very few peaches. The good: the BBQ is among the best in the country. It's vinegar based, but it sooooooo good. Your best bet is the Super Pig. The bad: the building is older than me, and I think older than my mom. Before skipping out of Macon, I wanted to try this place out. It was fairly easy to get to, and appeared to have decent parking. I didn't have any problems parking and getting in and out. Staff was friendly and prompt, and there was no substantial wait to order, or wait for my food. I ordered the Super Pig. The whole place smells fragrant and as a barbecue joint should. From the service and atmosphere side of things, I was pleased. As for the Super Pig itself, well... the flavor was good. But the consistency of the pork, kind of disturbed me. I'm one of those "consistency eater" types whom dislikes foods that disagrees with what I think something should feel like when being eaten. That being said, the chopped pork from Finchers lodged into this sandwich had the consistency of tuna fish. It was still discernible as meat, but it was literally like biting into a tuna fish with a slightly sweet barbecue flavor. And not tasting a thing like tuna fish. If I ever went back to Macon, I can't say that I'd go back to Fincher's based on the chopped pork alone, but seeing as how my options in the area were pretty limited, I'd be inclined to at least give the ribs or pork butts a shot. read more

My hubby and I visited Fincher's the other day. We are big fans of Fresh Air and we wanted to see why many of our friends prefer Fincher's. The staff was friendly, and helped us quickly. The BBQ was great - I didn't think it was slimy at all and I preferred it to the dry style of BBQ at Fresh Air. My husband's ribs were good - but not as good as what we'd just had the day before from F.A. I ordered a pint of stew - certain that I would love it, since it's my favourite at F.A. I don't know why I assumed it would be the same. I ended up throwing away over the half the stew. I only ate the first half out of a sense of obligation. I knew there was going to be trouble when we had to wait for them to "warm it up." That just seemed wrong. It was greasy, and pulpy and looked like waste matter. It was not delicious. I had been wanting to check this place out for a while since it quite close to my house but never got the courage to go alone. So when my coworker at Ocmulgee suggested lunch we both agreed barbecue sounded great. I was very glad we finally made an effort to go here. The prices are really cheap and the portions are large. Quite a good deal for lunch compared to the fast food places that line the surrounding area. Since this was our first time here I asked the counter lady to make a suggestion. She suggested the BBQ plate and we both agreed that that sounded good. There is very little room to sit down here inside except for a few booth seats and tables outside. Since work was not far we just decided to take it back to work and eat it outside at the park. The BBQ plate consisted of BBQ pork, two buns for making your own sandwiches, Brunswick stew, chips, and cole slaw. I'm not a fan of cole slaw or really Brunswick stew so I didn't eat those. I did try the stew and well it was interesting. It looked really fatty and had a weird taste. I really liked the BBQ and had more than enough for two sandwich's. It had sauce on it but not too much at all, it was just right. Maybe next time I will just get a sandwich they are extremely cheap. But the Brunswick stew is the BEST things on the menu and it's worthy of coming just to get that and make a meal out of it alone! I passed this place a few times before finally stopping- but all in all, I'm glad that I did. I got a standard BBQ plate, It came with a decent helping of pulled pork, brunswick stew, beans (subbed for coleslaw), chips, and 3 rolls. For the price, it was certainly a lot of food. As far as the quality of the food, though, it just wasn't up to my preference. That isn't to say that it was bad. The meat was a touch greasy (which is way better than dry), and their sauce has a mustardy flavor. The brunswick stew was decent. I should've listened to my intuition in the parking lot. The pork sandwich was underwhelming and disappointing. Not what you'd expect from an establishment in business since the 1930s. Fincher's is an institution for certain groups of people who grew up in the area. The BBQ is good. But I've been eating Fincher's hamburgers since I was sitting in a car seat when they still did a good amount of curbside business and the curbman carried paper hats for the kids. Ok on the May 25,2020 just move to Macon 2018 June. So on Sunday didn't feel like cooking. So I never tried fincher's barbecue and the reason why is because they had no macaroni and cheese so me and my dog went over Finch. Got in line pull up to take out window. But before that I looked at the menu it's not very big but you can see if it's good food. So I ordered the BBQ on ribs with all slaw, and Piglet sandwich and tea. I so we pulled out of there ipull the pig let sandwich give my dog some I ate other half. And it was very very mighty good and my dog Roscoe would say the same thing. So when we got home I pulled out the the ribs and I tried to slaw let me tell you that's pretty damn good if I known that that was good like that I would have ordered a bigger one.slaw slow is that good and I think they got the best slaw in Macon. Then I tried the ribs with some of the sauce it didn't really need the sauce I like to just the way it was and teas was magnificent they got the best cheap too far as I tried here. I think fich got me sold on them. Sometime is better late than never. Right now I used to go out to eat like every two or three weeks since the epidemic. People complain about this place because the "ambiance" AKA insides are kind of run down. Actually, its really run down but that's what I like about BBQ places. The food on the other hand is amazing. Saw this place on some food show so had to check it out while in the area. Restaurant was full during lunch--very friendly staff and our server was sweet and helpful explaining the menu. We usually just eat Texas BBQ so had a few questions. Prices were really cheap IMO-had the meat platter and a pig ( sandwich) and some additional sides. Some of my earliest memories are eating at Fincher 's. This was back in the 60's. There were 5 children, so we were limited in choices. Fincher's BBQ won every time. I have always loved the hamburgers and if I eat in that I'd what I always get. I even married a Fincher. I am not impressed anymore though. The hamburgers do not look or taste the same at any of the Fincher's locations. They are now fat in the middle and do not have that grilled crust. So I'm a Canadian passing through and I here about this place. So happy I came . So I had some BBQ here. And I can't say enough cool things about the food. Have the super pig sandwich. And a cheese burger lol. If you have room have the Brunswick stew it's OMG good. Hell of a compliment to the super pig . Throw in a sweet tea and your good to go. I visited with the owner Jake for a few minutes and left a 20 dollar tip. He wouldn't take it himself and gave the twenty dollar bill to his employee that's worked there for 41 years lol.
