I really like this store. I love the merchandise. The prices are great. No stress dressing room. Men's store has no signage outside.

The store(s) men's and women's are both located in the Bay Street plaza. They are clean and well organized. They offer a great selection and plenty of sizes. Staff are friendly and knowledgeable. I frequent this location mostly out of convenience but also for selection. Parking is easy . And it's close to other stores and restaurants. Definitely a good place to shop! read more

Needed a few items for my work wardrobe, so I stopped into H&M at Bay Street. I generally thoroughly dislike shopping for clothes in stores, and nearly always shop online, but I needed something in a pinch. I've always liked H&M. Their clothing is of good quality and reasonably priced, and I have found a number of nice items here that have lasted me many years. That being said, I left empty-handed this time. Many of the current styles are unflattering, and kind of frumpty-dumpty. I couldn't find anything that worked for what I was looking for. I don't pretend to know much about fashion, nor does it interest me, but I do know what looks good on me, and I would love to see more flattering, form-fitting styles, and less baggy burlap sack. Maybe they'll have better options for next season. That being said, I did see some very nice coats for Fall, and I do like the plum shades they have now. The staff was nice, and I appreciate there is no limit to how many items you can take into the dressing room. Will try again at some point, and I'm glad they're still at Bay Street, with all the changes that have taken place there over the years. read more

To begin, I never ever have written a review as I am walking through the doors of a store to depart. That is how amazed I am! At the Bay Street H&M in Emeryville I typically receive good customer service service. To their credit, I have only visited this location to return items purchased online since it is the most convenient for me rather than the closest. Today, due to limited availability online and in store, I decided to test my luck and see if I could find a different size for my lil one of an item purchased online that was too big. Unfortunately for me, I did not locate it in store; however, I found quite a collection of pieces for my daughter this summer. Upon gathering an arm full of items, then finding the item I originally went searching for (the size I wanted was not there), I decided to go into my H&M app add the size to my cart before I forgot. In the app there was a flash sale, so I scanned every item in my arm to see if it was available online (on sale) and added it to my cart. There were 3-4 items that were coming soon or out of stock so I purchased those in store. When I approached the register, Adam assisted me. He had a warm smile and was friendly from the beginning. I inquired if the store was offering the same flash sale as online - no - so I apologized for the pile of clothing I was handing to him to not include in my in store purchase. Adam told me not to apologize, take advantage of the online sale and continued to share additional benefits of being a H&M I was unaware of. I have never ever had such astonishing customer service at a H&M location prior to service received from Adam. He truly made me feel valued, increasing my sense of loyalty to H&M. Please acknowledge Adam for his amazing customer service, kindness and warmth - that I know is not only presented to me - that I had the privilege to receive today. I truly value any company with employees that express human kindness. It is rare and today I am sharing how truly appreciative and blown away I am today. Thank you Adam! read more

This place is always cleaned, well thought out. Staff is helpful. The dressing rooms have plenty of stalls for a small store. Never have to wait in line too long. Its really nice at Emery Bay. I'm a black female. I stopped in to return an unworn item with tags (cut off) and receipts in bag well within the 30 day policy. First cashier said no return or exchange because the tags have to be intact and confirmed with manager who said no. I thanked her and began to leave and decided to again read the return policy on the back of the receipt because I was so puzzled at the the discrepancy in how the return request was handled against how the return policy stayed it would be handled. I walked back and asked if it could be explained and showed the return policy on the receipt. Mgr came out and said there was confusion.It was believed the garment care tag was removed. We all know what the tags are. It's never referring to the care and what its made of. Lol. I was refunded. I'm writing because I feel very uncomfortable and curious about why that really happened. There were minimal people in the store and I liked that I was able to peruse with plenty of space, unlike at some other locations where it is very congested. Because of the minimal traffic, it also felt that the retail space was kept fairly clean and orderly. They have sections for women as well as kids, with a men's location a few doors down. I was able to nab a couple of cute items for my kids. Bonus is, there was barely a line to wait in so I was able to check out quickly. read more

I was killing some time before catching a flick at AMC nearby and I though this might be a good place to do it! And I'm glad I did! I have had really good experience with all H&M's I have been to. This was no exception. Great selections at (what I feel are) bargain prices. Although it wasn't the best time to shop (given I just ate a huge meal right before) I was still able to find something I liked at my preferred price point. Service was pretty good as well. Like my previous experience with other H&M's, staff here were pretty friendly. Definitely a must-stop for whenever I catch a movie! read more

Went all the way out to this store on a Sunday afternoon only to find a "We're closed" paper sign on the doors during regular business hours. An entire department store closed during business hours? This H&M is the bottom of the barrel compared to the other stores. This is not necessarily in terms of merchandise available but in terms of customer service. The store/floor manager always seems pissed about waking up in the am and never acknowledges the customer in passing. Her sweet demeanor seems to have rubbed off on many of the store personnel. How one can be comfortable ignoring the public who spends in their store is a mystery to me. I had a return and a purchase today. There was one cashier and a line of customers. Hakim was the lone cashier. When it was my turn, he actually made me wait additional time while he placed each of my returns on a hanger. I asked him why he was making me wait while he did this. He stated that it was a store policy to hang clothes and make the customer WAIT while performing this task. How is this possible when I'm PAYING for parking????!!!! If this is in fact the store policy, it's costing me $$$ to watch H&M employees do their FCUKN job. In addition, I informed Hakim that one sweater had animal hair on it and it was the only size on the rack. He told me that I could either buy it or receive a 10% discount and then, could not return it. When I looked at him like I was going to beat him down, he added, "So, whadda want me to do?" Ok, ring my shyt up before I catch a case. I shan't be returning to this location because the store personnel needs to either be terminated or retrained cuz they certainly miss the mark on customer service deliverables and the "I hate that I woke up this morning" attitude doesn't work for me. read more

Went in here today 6/11/16. It was sort of sloppy - stuff was tossed around a bit but this is a great place to get low cost clothing that you need to replace more often than higher quality stuff. Great for the fashion trend follower who wouldn't get caught dead in last seasons outfits. Price for 2 dress shirts 2 for $25 and outstanding deal. If you are a slim guy you will love them. I've always had to pay $15 or so per shirt to have them all taken in... don't have to do that here with the modern slim fit. They will look good without the extra fabric making you look sloppy. Another favorite of mine here is the $9.99 plain crew neck shirts - the ones with just a touch of stretch to them. They are heavier than an undershirt and can pass as respectable casual clothing. They wear well.... better than $20 UnderArmour undershirts that I just bought that are 80% cotton and 20% rayon. Ladies - I can't advise you at all - I'm a guy. Your gonna have to go in and figure out the woman's department on your own... I can advise that if your buying something for your man your probably better off buying a shirt versus pants for him. Needless to say its less important that a shirt fit perfectly when compared to jeans. Plus I'm particular about my jeans - not so much about shirts. read more

I walked in asking if he knew where a specific dress was moved to and he immediately was knowledgable of where it was relocated, as well as went above and beyond in actually helping me quickly sort through to find my size. Customer service like this is AMAZING and truely sometimes difficult to find, especially during the holiday season generally unless the position assisting is commission based. For the men side, when the card machine asks me to "type password" and to "run reports" definitely isn't my issue to deal with when the lady keeps telling me "your card isn't working." Kept telling her, "your machine is asking me if I want to run a report or type in a password and not for a pin code. This is based on my check out experience. All H & M's are basically the same set up wise. The guy at the register was so rude! He didn't greet me, gave attitude, said, "do you want the receipt in the bag?" With so much attitude. He gave me my bag and I said thank you with nothing in return. I would have told him off if I didn't have kids with me. Seems like the Oakland stores harbor ghetto ass people with no manners. That's right, I said it!! I'm always polite to people. #66 I was in need of a quick fix and did not have a lot of time for shopping so I thought, "I will just run into H&M and solve my dilemma." Good choice. This H&M is usually well stocked with selections and sizes. I can almost always find a cute top or tiny dress if I need something in a pinch, and really do not want to drop hella cash for it. The quality of H&M clothes leaves much to be desired, but the price matches the fact that the clothing will not stand the test of time, so if all I need is a "one time" wear, H&M is the place. You are never harassed by the sales people; however, they will help you out if you ask. So for low pressure, super affordable and cute pieces H&M is a hit. Arrrggghhhh *rubs temples* I still can't get over how lame this H&M location is. I've been to a number of these stores around the Bay Area and have to say this one sends me into an irrational rage more often than not - thus I never come here unless I happen to be at Bay Street. For one thing, it looks like an atom bomb went off in the middle of the store, resulting in hundreds of articles of clothing and accessories being strewn about and laying in every open walk way and on top of every rack and open, flat surface. There is also no sense of organization in this location (not that H&M is ever REALLY organized into a cohesive floor plan anyway...), so you've got a million sales racks that have been viciously searched through and are stuffed beyond capacity, with even more sales racks placed in random corners of the store. If there even IS a floor plan at this H&M, I couldn't tell you what it is - I'm too busy having a sensory overload anyway, from all the clothes and items laying about everywhere, trying to avoid slipping on fallen hangers and blouses on the floor, and having crappy music blaring into my ears. Finding anything at this store is like embarking on an archeological dig. And why are there always only two people working the outrageously huge lines that never seem to disappear here? I get it, your store looks like hell, but if you had to weigh what was more important, getting the lines empty or putting away go-backs that are just going to wind up on the floor again as soon as you turn your back, you sure as hell better believe you should be prioritizing the people ready to have an aneurism waiting in line. It really didn't help that in my line and the line next to me, TWO boneheads had managed to cease all movement because they had some sort of issues they needed to sort out, and both customers were complete idiots. The woman holding up my line was making a simple return and then all of a sudden had to stop to search for some kind of information on her iPhone before she could complete the transaction, and we were all standing there wanting to destroy her as we watched her filtering through her phone as though we had all the time in the world to wait for her to move her ass. The wait got so bad (and the cashier was making ZERO attempt to move her along or tell her to step aside) that a woman behind me made an outburst and they finally got a third cashier to ring. I will not return to this H&M unless I'm at Bay Street again with time to kill. So since changing sizes I'm more apt to step into an H&M. Why? Well the black top I inherited from Best Friend #1 is the same black top I wore to the Gaga party and like three other times the same week. I love it. So for their simple black skirts and tops, the basic wardrobe additions, this place can work it out for cheap (if you find them on the sake rack). However this store in particular wasn't all that nice. It was shaped funny, with lots of walls closing in like a maze. Their sale stuff was also spread out in several different "rooms" and their dressing room? Don't even get me started. There's around four rooms (from what I could see, waiting on the bench) and a huge wall so you have to walk in a U shape to get to them. Fire your contractor ladies, he effed the hell up. I shop at H&M sometimes because they have cute clothes at somewhat affordable prices but this time around there was some major fit issues with the clothes and I'm not just talking about 1 piece of clothing. I've been to many different locations but this was my first time here and it was a real let down. The entire store was in a chaotic mess and over packed to the point where you could not get clothes off the rack unless the entire rack fell on you. At some point I just stopped looking because it was just too much of a workout. I went to the dressing room and was in line for 20 minutes and approached by an apathetic dressing room attendant. At that point I don't even know why I bothered standing in line but I did and after trying things on had no luck. My recommendation to H&M would be to shape up if you want your business to truly prosper because customers are a vital part of staying in business. I really hope things change. read more

I really wanted to like this store. I've come in several times, I've probably also spent several hours in here, but I can't say i really like their clothes. I've only bought some basic tees, made out of cheap fabric, for really low prices. The sizes are small and inconsistent, most of their clothes are made out of polyester or viscose, and the style is really off! Once in a while you'll find something nice. I've heard their button down shirts are nice, however, I've never purchased one. I even heard this really skinny emo girl comment on how much she loves their bras. And I really liked the pleather H&M jacket Natalie Portman wore in Elle. They have some cute jackets that are reminiscent of the Members Only style jackets that was popular decades ago. But I guess that's all I can really say. Actually, on second thought, it's not that i don't like H&M, but this store has VERY poor selection. Check out SF if you want something nice. read more

I realize that during this gorgeous weekend, I spent most of my day inside a dressing room. Actually, in H&M, it was about 45 minutes spent waiting to get into a dressing room. I sweated more carrying my 30 pieces of clothing and trying on 12 pairs of pants than I did running that morning at the gym. They are lucky I bought most of the clothes I tried on. The clothes here are trendy and decent without a hefty price tag. I purchased 3x as many clothes here as I did at Anthropologie for 2/3 of the price. It's the price you pay for one store setting up a fitting room for you ... and H&M where I had to stand in front of a terrible couple flirting with each other. Ugly people shouldn't flirt. read more

I love the clothing at H&M, but I will NEVER shop at this one. The store is a mess, clothing is always strewn all over the place, the lines for the dressing room are usually 10 people deep, and the lines for the register are worse than at an amusement park. It is such bad business, you have already found something you like and are willing to give this company money in exchange for it, and they make you wait in line for 20 minutes for the 2 people behind the register? I'll wander around in here sometimes when waiting for a movie, and I've even found things I really want to buy. This location has been here for quite some time, and recently renovated to create a better shopping environment for all. They have a men's location a couple stores down and this location is now dedicated to women and kids. I love the sales here, and everyone is pretty helpful. They charge for bags now which is something common amongst all bay area locations. They consolidate their sale section making it very easy to shop. They almost always have someone attending to the fitting rooms and are free to assist when needed. As this location is on bay st. you must pay for parking in the garages. read more

This was the first time I've ever been to a H&M store. I was passing by and noticed the new store. It just opened not too long ago, so everything was new and the store was incredibly organized. The store is very neat and everything is just in place. I kinda felt bad messing the stuff around :) They also have a security guard right at the door and he's very nice. H&M has cheap and trendy clothing, accessories, and even lingerie. I ended up purchasing a headband for $2 which is a great price. I wouldn't buy their clothes, its not really that cheap for its quality and style. read more

H&M is my fave clothing store but I wish the clothes would fit right. I am sometimes finding the fit in the clothes is off 2 sizes and for that I have to lug 20 outfits in the dressing room and emerge with 3-4 because I have to double up the amount of clothing just to get the right fit. Wassup with the security guard at the door? Scary. I would think he would just stroll outside instead of standing there staring at me as I look through shirts and leggings. Service here is terrible. And they will not let you enter the store 20 minute before closing. I can understand not allowing anyone to enter anymore by the hour mark, but 20 minutes before? And I experienced that more than once. That is the kind of self-serving attitude that retail (or any service occupation) does not need. Open until 8pm means OPEN UNTIL 8PM, not workers-need-to-be-able-to-leave-by-8pm. Bunch of LAZY WORKERS. The only reason I don't give it a 1 is just because I like the store chain itself. read more

I like H&M generally, and I've always found things I like. This particular store was a bit disappointing, as the men's section is quite small, as is the selection. I wanted a vest and they had cute ones, but upon trying to find one in my size, I discovered many of the same size, and nothing bigger than a 42. I generally wear men's Large, which is not unusual, so I find it a bit silly that the selection didn't contain anything bigger than a Medium. There were probably 10-15 vests of the same size (36), while maybe 4 out of all were differing sizes. I would love to see the men's section (and selection) expanded. I will probably seek out bigger H&Ms until that happens. read more

$4 dresses and tanks..what more do you want?? There's always a sale at H&M but this time, the prices are outrageously cheap! $10 patterned pants, $3 tanks, $5 shirts, $1 jewelry! The quality of the clothing is more than average but for less than $10, it's definitely a deal. What I also like about H&M is their return policy. They'll refund you within 30 days for pretty much everything, even the sales item! Not sure about the accessories though. They don't try to cheat you into going back to their store with store credit (ahem Forever 21), instead they'll give you back the entire refund with whatever type of payment used for purchase. Which is 100% fair! It's my own money and if I want to return an item, I would like to have my money back. I don't wanna be stuck with a store credit. That way, I can shop and buy as I wish! read more

Came on a weekday afternoon, as expected, it was slow. Plenty of workers in the store restocking items, etc. None greeted customers at all, not even a hello. Only woman and kids items at this current location. No men stuff here. Store was organized, bright and clean, which is a plus. Prices are moderate and affordable. Customer service could use improvement. Overheard few employees talking to one another and saying they can't wait to get off work. Do they enjoy working here?! You decide. read more
