When arriving, I went to the restroom to pee (I am 67 and have prostate issues, and just wanted to be comfortable while I shopped) and, seeing a sign on both the outside and inside that said "Please keep the door shut - because of A/C" and seeing a lock, I locked the door for privacy (too). There is just urinal and one stall. When I was standing at the urinal there was suddenly the loudest banging on a door I'd ever heard in my life. I thought it must be some kind of emergency so I went, holding my pants up, since I didn't have time to zip them. I opened it, and said "What's up?!" and the young man with dark green Green Thumb shirt - heavyset, brown hair, 30/40-ish? - said very aggressively, yelling, "It's a public restroom, that's why theres more than one stall !!!" and proceeded to wash in the sink for 5 minutes or so (I retreated to the stall to try and finish my business). So... because there' a urinal and a stall you are not supposed to lock it? Why is there a lock? I don't get it... He must have either been having a very very bad day, was mentally unbalanced, or just a ver very angry person. I was in shock. I think it's time to find another nursery...

Yes, Marty is a bit quirky and there is no signage indicating where the business is (look for the black mailbox marked 2727) but he is very knowledgeable and has a large variety of plants and trees. I was looking for podocarpus trees which Marty had posted on Craigslist. I didn't realize his business was by appointment only, but he graciously helped me anyway. Since Marty is a grower, he picked out 8 beautiful and well-matched trees from his stock and helped me load them. If you can't find what you are looking for, give Marty a call.

He was also friendly and understanding about our budget and our timeline, which we appreciated. We started with a variety of plants to get the project going, and we have gone back several times since for trees and shrubs. Can't say enough good things about Moon Valley and our experience picking out our Meyer Lemon tree…read moreand Bouganvilleas. Patrick came over last month and helped us plant both trees and gave us some awesome tips on upkeep. For the Meyer tree he suggested a nitrogen-rich fertilizer and a well-draining acidic soil. We went with an organic soil from Kellogg Gardens, and added Perlite as he suggested. The tree seems happy and we're seeing about a 4 inch growth already. For the Bougainvillea, he suggested planting in the ground. We dug a hole twice as wide as the root ball, left the plant in its original plastic grow pot, and just cut off the bottom and slashed the sides. Moon Valley and Patrick's attentive service and help really has brought our little patio garden to life.
