Alla, my Tax Pro, was awesome. The receptionist (Jackie, I think? apologies if I'm wrong!) was also an absolute angel, everyone at THIS location was amazing. Super helpful, super kind, super informative, awesome people skills, etc. Do NOT let the nasty trolls at the Venice location, further south down Lincoln Blvd. scare you away from using H&R Block. Stay in Santa Monica, north of the 10 freeway, and you'll have a completely different experience. read more

I spoke to a tax person named Allah at H & R Block in Santa Monica on Lincoln boulevard and she was the worst communicator and just so unprofessional. I had a phone consultation with her to see how much my taxes would cost to have done and told her as an independent contractor how many 1099s I had so she could give me a price when she added the details onto the computer. She said she needed to call me back and she would leave me the price on my voicemail if she didn't catch me in person. So she called me back and the message said that the estimate cost of my taxes would be $200 that she left on my voicemail. I called back to their office and asked Amber the clerk if Allah could email me a estimate of the $200 that she gave me on the phone. I thought to myself in my head that if it was a little bit more even $250-$300 that it would be okay, if it went a Little over the estimate. The front desk clerk Amber came back to me and said that Allah said that it would be between $400 and $500 for my taxes to have them done. I told her that I Specifically had talked to Allah and have a voice message that it would be an estimate of $200 maybe a little bit more. Alllah went back on her word and was a Horrible communicator and maybe just said $200 in order for me to get into the office there and then they would have charged me more. She told me she never said that it was $200 and I said I have your voicemail I've listened to it a couple of times. I told them to cancel my appointment. And by the way, she had gotten that estimate of $200 for ONE 1099 form. I found out with my later conversation with her. I Specifically given her Three 1099 forms of the information that I had in order for her to get the right financial information from the computer. Allah doesn't even know how to communicate. Why is she even in this business if she doesn't know how to speak to people and give them the clarification they need and be a professional? read more

There is nothing more I hate in this world than doing taxes. Yes it's my duty as an American citizen to pay up and blah blah blah -- but I effin hate it -- and if you enjoy it, something is wrong with the part of your body that's above your neck. It's damn stressful and if I could move to a third world country just not to do my taxes I probably would. With all that negativity said; I came to HR Block because they are really close to my house and I was just too lazy to turbo tax is this year or drive to my accountant in WEHO. My taxes are simple; just one w2, I could quite frankly do them myself, which I have before; but like I said this year I just have way too much going on to sit there and input numbers only to get a heart attack and cry into my pillow cause I owe quadruple digits again. So early in the am I drove my yellow happy car to a very unhappy green colored tax place already knowing I will be one pissed off customer -- but then like a breath of fresh air I met Allan Lee. He was so professional yet so down to earth and a total sweetheart tax man lol. I 100% recommend him to whoever hates doing their own taxes or hates their accountant or just wants a cool knowledgable fellow to make their life easier during this stressful tax year time. Yea, of course I owe, but I left much happier than I ever had knowing I owe money. District Manager Frank Brito lost touch with grass roots customer service. Poor communication. A simple call back or email would have restored faith in the company during a claim. Instead, tells me he did not have my phone number but the number and email was typed on the form. After 20+ years this marks the end as an H&R Block client. Does not reflect on past agents that took care of me, just one DM that did not care enough to call back to give an update. read more

Javette was the one who was assigned to help us and she was great. She was knowledgable, patient and made it easy. She also helped us maximize our deductions and refunds. Alla Lonberg is my tax preparer and she is amazing! She is very knowledgeable and helped me file my taxes the past few years, so I finally decided to write a review because she deserves it. She is very helpful and polite. I don't know anything about filing taxes, so I am glad I found a tax preparer that I can trust to help me. She is always happy to answer any questions I have and I feel confident in her advice. I spoke to an employee at H&R Block named Jeremy that has to be one of the worst advisors I have ever met in my life. I was trying to figure out the exact cost associated with my tax returns and rather than explaining it to me, he gave me nebulous open-ended answers, dodging my questions for some reason. When I tried to ask any specific follow up questions, he was extremely rude and told me I was forcing him to "repeat himself." And then ultimately when I told him I was just trying to get answers to my questions, he hung up on me!! I've never been spoken to this way by anyone nonetheless someone I'm trusting to help me do my taxes! Ask how much your tax preparation will cost before you go ahead. I paid way over $600 for a return I don't think should have cost that much. I paid it. When I thought it over and returned, my preparer said I paid and nothing can be done. I asked the manager and she agreed. I asked her to refer my request higher and she said she would but so far nothing. This was my third year with them. The first year was fair so I returned but paid $500 the second year. I asked for a different preparer the third (this) year hoping for a better rate but it was worse. Beware. read more

I have used H & R Block for my taxes for each of the last three years. My taxes are very simple, but I like the assistance. The staff is friendly and all, but it has taken them at least 5 days each time to submit my returns to the IRS and FTB. This is unacceptable. But that's not how Gabriel Brito at this location operates. When I had a pointed question about something he brought up, he started to mansplain to which I had to tell him to stick to the question I asked. Far from offering any resemblance of customer service, he started to yell at me for interrupting his mansplaining. We pay H&R Block for a service and not their condescending tones! For the past 20 years, I have used H&R Block to file my taxes. I WILL NEVER, EVER USE THEM AGAIN. I had a simple return last year, it took approximately 20 minutes to complete my return and I was charged $300. I left their office in tears. When I questioned my return as it was $1200 lower than 2016 she called me one of "those people" and belittled me until I left the office in tears.
