I come here to do my weekly grocery shopping. This HEB is just like any other HEB store with its offerings of fresh produce, tortillas, and decent wine/cheese selection. However, one thing they continually lack is pita bread. But they do carry my favorite Greek yogurt, Fage, at cheaper prices than Central Market or Sprouts. The reason I'm giving this location three stars though is due to an incident two weeks ago. After arriving home from a shopping trip, I realized my purchased goat cheese was missing. I called the store to inform them, and they did not even offer an apology except to say that they had forgotten to pack it and it would be waiting for me when I got back. I went through two people on the phone, and both speakers' tones were not in the slightest apologetic; in fact they came off as flippant and callous. Unfortunately this is the closest grocery store to my apartment, so I will keep coming here despite the lackluster customer service I've experienced. read more

I still love this HEB. It is not overly big and not small either. It is just the right size. They always have great customer service and sweet employees that let you sample the food. I go there for there fresh produce, delicatessen, and meats. My favorite part of the store is in the back by paper goods, right before the biscuits and butters. There is a red moving cart loaded with clearance items. This this place place I go when I enter HEB. You can find dirt cheap food items are or items that have been discontinued. One time I found tons of Snapple Drink packages (you know the ones you add to water) for 25 cents. I must bought a good $5 worth. read more

Not really the best HEB I've been to. The lines are long and the staff is friendly enough. Steer clear of the bakery area. They are not on top of their game. They pretend like they don't see you or hear you asking for help. I'm not quite sure why. The meat dept is just as bad. I would have given them at least 4 stars because, after all, they are HEB... Going to a grocery store in Texas always reminds me that there are so many products we on the east coast are missing out on. Most of them I wouldn't eat anyway (Chocolate Frosted Flakes??) but a lot I'd love to try if I could on a daily basis. H-E-B is a San Antonio staple with helpful employees who are more than willing to go above and beyond to help out customers. We were looking for YoBaby yogurt for my niece and nephew and the person we asked was more than willing to go in the back to check, even if that meant stopping what he was doing to do so. I shop at this HEB when I need to pop in and out for something. I'm not used to it and don't know the organization that well, so only if I need ONE thing will I go in there. Otherwise, my 30 minute grocery shopping turns into a two hour unnecessary waltz around the store trying to find everything I need. This store is huge to begin with. Probably the biggest H-E-B in the area (other than obviously most HEB Plus stores). Usually someone always standing near the entrance greeting which is unusual of H-E-B's. Employees are mostly nice, I've never had a bad situation with anyone. I actually recently went there to buy my mom a plant and on my way out, tripped and the plant broke - I took it back in right after I bought it and they replaced it for free, no hassles whatsoever. Parking can be somewhat of a nightmare and this location can be horrible if you go around morning or afternoon peak-times because of the people driving into the Medical Center off Wurzbach. Thankfully, they have a secured light over next to the gas station, which makes it easier for you to get out of. But keep that in mind! read more

What happened to "friendliness" at this HEB when checking out??? Seems like they must have had a meeting for the checkers and the emphasis is now on how many items a customer has in their cart rather than on the friendliness towards the customer! I was there today and had 14 items in my cart (instead of concentrating on your shopping, you must now keep a count of how many items you place in your cart). Almost all of the self checkout registers were empty, and it was straight out from the aisle I walked out of, so I headed there. No hello from the checker there. She just pointed at the sign that says "10 items or less" & rudely told me that I can't go there. Okay, when counting, I did have more than 10 items so I moved to the express lane. Same treatment from this checker. No hello, points at the sign that says "15 items or less" & rudely told me that I can't go there. Since I already now knew that I had 14 items, I corrected her & she did check me out (not sure if she really knew how many items I had in my cart). So, while I usually do shop at this HEB, and try to make it as easy as possible for the checkers, I found this experience very annoying. Both of these checkers were just plain rude & made my experience extremely unpleasant, not to mention that it ended up taking much longer than was necessary. read more

It's an HEB. Nothing more, nothing less. That being said, you can drive two minutes down I-10W and go to a nicer one. This parking lot will give a stressful or tired person a stroke and worst and a miserable experience at best. I see an accident here every time I pick up groceries. This HEB location is close to my all-time favorite location at Alon. With it being open 24 hours, I am a few minutes away from anything I might need even if it is in the middle of the night. And with a child in the med center, the hours of operation have more than once benefited me. I'm always impressed with their $5 salads, the variety of sushi rolls and poke salads, and the deli meats they slice daily are to die for! Rx *** My prescriptions are always set to a specific HEB location due to me traveling around bulverde/ San Antonio area for work I never know where I'll end up. So depending on my location at the time I'll call and ask about a transfer from my heb to whichever one I'm by so it's convenient for me to just pick it up where I'm currently closest to. Each time I've ever done this I get nothing but attitude at other locations on the phones or in the store and they seem super annoyed and bothered but this location was FANTASTIC the young lady that helped me was not only friendly she was quick to tell me she'd call the other store for me to get the transfer going she was sooo nice and helpful made me not feel like a burden. What a great selection of wines are available at this location. I've been looking for a particular Sangiovese found in the regions: Tuscany, Central Italy... a dry, semi-sweet, or sweet red wine. I've not been able to find this particular wine (Stivali) which is not on the expense of scale but is great with pepperoni, sundried tomato, and basil Pizza. I would have rated this location 5 stars but the checkout line seem to be a little bit confusing and congested however this may have been the time of day 8 p.m. However, I will say that the exterior was very clean and the branding and exterior architecture was very welcoming. read more

I officially cannot stand this location. It is most unfortunate that this location services a large area, because it is always crammed full of people, thus creating a miserable shopping experience. And it doesn't matter what time of day it is. Unless I set my alarm clock to try and get there in the wee morning hours. Any reasonable time of day you will find it bustling...11 o'clock at night -- there are still cart-fulls of screaming children. The aisles are usually blocked with people and I have to repeatedly say "Pardon me" to even get anyone to step aside for me. It's not really their fault...but it turns a simple shopping trip into this huge thing, because it takes 2 hours just to find and get what I need whilst winding through people. On top of that, the customer service is very poor. 9 times out of 10, if I don't greet the cashier first they don't say anything to me at all. At the end of the transaction, when I thank them I am reciprocated with silence every single time. And this goes for the people at the customer service counter as well when I have purchased money orders. I absolutely dread when I have to go grocery shopping because if I don't choose this location I will have to drive much further just to reach another grocery store, as this is the closest to me. I -strangely- never feel like turning a grocery run into a several-hour excursion. Then I end up annoyed when I feel compelled to make a 40+ minute round-trip drive to go somewhere else solely to avoid going here. (At least 20 minutes each way, as this store is pushing 15 minutes from me.) Ugh. Now I feel like I'm in a bad mood after enduring yet another trip here today. read more

Grocery store within walking distance of the Omni Hotel I'm staying at. Convenient in that it's open until 1am. They have a fuel station with affordable gas, too. Huge store with a pharmacy and other household essentials for sale. Only reason I didn't rate with a five because the cashier could've been a little bit more courteous. read more

Today was the first time I shopped at this store. I was looking for some flowers for my best friend that was in the hospital and stopped at the floral department and met Miss Rosemary she was so sweet and helpful. I selected some beautiful roses, I ask her if she could cut them so that they would fit in my vase, which I had in the car. I brought the vase in the store and she cut them perfectly to fit. I really like this H-E-B because of how big it is and the huge selection it has. Another plus to this store is that it has a Generations credit union inside which whom I bank with. Everytime I Coke in there's a sample station in every corner with new recipes or new products to try. Employees are always friendly and professional. However I will give you a fair warning about the parking, it is very small and during rush hour times can be very high congested traffic. It is very small. Parking is horrible because there is not a lot of spaces. This HEB is open 24 hours which is convenient. The store is very clean and lots of friendly staff. Its a big heb and lots of selection but not laid out right. It doesn't make sense. You do a lot of back tracking of your looking for things. For example not all the dairy is together. Not all the meat are together. Not all frozen food is together. Spread out. But since it's clean and friendly and there is always cashiers open its our grocery store. I gave it 4 stars not because of the service but because it's not an easy trip in. read more

I frequent here about 4 to 5 time per week. Overall the selection, freshness of produce/meat, and Customer service is a 5. I could not score it an overall 5 as the store struggle to hold the Vendors accountable throughout the day and I sometimes have to search for certain sodas that have not been restocked. I love having the option of self check out. This store is always busy, I was told by an employee of another HEB that it is their highest volume store in San Antonio. I used the curbside pick up today for the first time. The service was amazing. The manager JJ came out to greet me personally which was nice of him to do. I shared a concern I had experienced using another company's service due to their produce selection for me. When I got home I was happy to say he was right, I was impressed with their selections. They are close to me, parking is always frustrating and with the new lay out its taking a lot to get used to it and finding the items you need. They should post staff every other aisle so you have someone to ask where an item has been moved to, especially when you are in a rush read more

Update: I've done a little research since yesterday (I am that mad. We've probably tossed $40 worth of "food" in the last 3 months). It turns out that the company who made this "pasta" was sold in 2010 to a Canadian company- one of those that touts themselves as "green", with all kinds of sappy subsidiaries. The package still bears the US company's name (rather than the Canadian) & like most of HEB's products, does not indicate where the item was made/ is from, or when. I've never known pasta to "go bad", but was this a close-out of some kind? The original company, per Wikipedia, started operations in 1991. I can't imagine that they'd have lasted nearly 20 years putting out this kind of carp. This has been my H-E-B for 2 years now. I shop once a week (sometimes more) and I have never had a bad experience. I love that it's open 24/7, its very convenient. The employees are always pleasant and very helpful. It is consistently clean and organized. They have great meal deals, fresh produce, large wine selection, fresh sushi, yummy samples, and the prettiest flower arrangements. I'm on my way there now to do my weekly shopping and looking forward to it. read more
