The woman who interview me seemed inexperienced and did not know how to properly conduct a professional interview . She barely went over my resume or qualifications for this positions! I felt my time was wasted. Then 7 days later, they (Johnson Paint) sent my a "canned" , cold automated duplicitous email, lying about moving forward with another candidate?! But when I went directly to their careers page on their corporate website, I noticed that the "Credit Manager" position was never filled! Mind you there was only one open position for this job! They lied to me , just to get rid of me and to deter me from applying for any other open requisitions with the Johnson Paint company! In retrospect, after reviewing several disgruntled customer experiences reviewed here on yelp.com, I'm glad employment with Johnson Paint did not come to fruition!

I also decided to paint the legs of my butcher block cart. She helped choosing that color as well and it was perfect. Evan gave me lots of pointers on how to go about painting it like painting from the bottom up and I totally understand now why that has to be. He recommended a type of paint that is tougher than usual but still latex, which brush to use and told me I didn't need to sand which was a relief. I bought nearly $400 of paint here yesterday. Most of them worked out but the nice girl behind the…read moreregister assured me that they could color match Behr colors. Awesome, this saves me a trip to Home Depot after my stop here! Well, I only needed a quart but they were out so I bought a gallon. Unfortunately when I got home and started painting with it, I found that it was a few shades lighter than the color I started with. I can't use it. I called to let the girl know I'd be by today to return the gallon, and she said she would leave a note explaining the issue. Now here I am with the gallon I intend on returning, standing in front of the store's sign which states they are open until 5 PM today and the door is locked. When I called, no one answered. Apparently the stated hours are arbitrary. It was stressful finding out the color match was inaccurate. It's more stressful to show up during normal business hours to find the store closed. Especially because now I need to make another trip over here tomorrow before my 13 hour overnight shift. :-/ I'll be calling in advance to make sure they're open.

The issue I have with the place is the indifferent staffers. They aren't bad, but I definitely now believe that putting on an indifferent visage must be a corporate initiative. In the process of painting my condo, I went here at least 5 separate times for paint and paint-related supplies. On the plus side, they have the largest samples (quart-sized) that I have ever seen. Best of all, the samples are only $6. I found it was handy to buy a few samples of the same color and do the base coat with the samples and then buy a top-coat in your desired color. It definitely will save your some significant $$. On the downside, I would swear these guys just want you to take your paint and go as quickly as possible. On one of the occassions I was attempting to explain what I wanted and the guy just "yessed" me to death. Afterwards, I got home and realized he had mixed up the sizes of the paints I had ordered. So I had to take another trip to the store in order to begin and real painting. They quickly mixed another gallon of the correct paint and didn't charge me for it. Though he did it in a way that made me feel like I was keeping him from watching "The Price is Right". All in all, this isn't a bad place: go here, get your cheap paint, and never return. Btw, their supplies are more expensive than Home Depot.

Counter staff helped direct me downstairs. The guy (Carrie?) was super helpful, and cut a light chain to size and attached a magnetic two sided key ring to hold together. He was great, particularly as I had lost my voice and it was clearly an unusual request. A star off because one of the store managers took my paint chip, analyzed in with the color match tool, but then added more pigment to the can and showed me on the tiny swatch that "it matched better"... I went home, put it on the wall and .. it didn't (it was too dark, no extra pigment should have been added). I was back the following day, in line again, buying more paint.

He asserted that it was my mistake, (despite having used the same spec for years per their own record). To keep the job on schedule I was forced to pay another $200+ for a replacement. After 20 minutes my phone rings unexpectedly and it is the same representative calling me back to tell me exactly what I needed to get! He knew I wouldn't be spending money in their store, but STILL took the time to research and then call back to help me out... this is what exceptional customer service looks like! About the only thing they don't have in this store is the classic "If we don't have it, you don't…read moreneed it" sign. And maybe they have one of those, but just can't find a place to display it. As neighborhood hardware stores go, this place is the genuine article. They have a wide range of fasteners (sold by the piece, not in poly-bags!), plumbing and electrical items appropriate to the kinds of houses found in the neighborhood, lawn and garden supplies, cleaning supplies, paint and -- most of all -- a very friendly, helpful and knowledgeable staff. (Ooops, I almost forgot to mention a handsome and somewhat aloof Maine coon cat named "Hershey" who protects the lawn and bird seed from mice and provides the store with senior management.) I've been involved in construction and renovation work for many years, and this kind of hardware store is getting difficult to find. ( I was working with a carpenter installing a huge Andersen bay window which is supported by internal wire cables. Atlas True Value had large turnbuckles, 10" through bolts and wire rope clamps all in stock. ) As might be expected, they're a little bit more expensive than the big-box Lowes and Home Depot, but I frequently find they're more economical because I can get first-quality items in the quantity I need and I don't have to spend the time and gas money to go miles when I need something. My only complaint is that they shorten their business hours during the summer months and close a little earlier on Sundays.
