I really only made an account to review this hair salon. I had a great experience at this salon. From the time you enter until you leave, it's extremely professional. I was looking for a salon that works with natural hair and found this salon on yelp actually and decided to give it a try. I've been natural for 4 years now and wanted to get my fro shaped so I decided to go here. Char was my stylist and she was excellent. As stated before, the stylists are knowledgable and teach you how to take care of your hair and inform you with every step that they take. She cut my hair and deep inside I was crying because I thought it was too much. However, I was in terrible need of the cut so I wasn't mad. I would recommend this salon to anyone. Reasonably priced, clean, professional women. This salon does not fit the stereotypical image of a black owned salon I can promise you that. Char promptly greeted me and brought me to the back. You can tell that they organize their day so that they give their clients close attention and aren't rushing and juggling clients. Let me see. Is there anything that I'm missing. So disappointed. I washed and conditioned my hair. Guess what? HEAT DAMAGED CURLS! I haven't put any heat on my hair since the silk press. I guess the flat iron's temp was too high. It took 5 months to write this review and I'm super disappointed that I have to give this salon a 2 star rating. I scheduled an appointment in February 2022 for a blow out (silk press) and a trim. Due to the pandemic I had not been to a stylist in 2 years. My old stylist moved out of the city. I read all the reviews and chose this place with the expectation that I would have a knowledgeable stylist who would take care of my hair. I actually told her while I was sitting in her chair about my hair history. All went well until my haircut, she suggested a layered trim for the back which I was like ok sounds good. This stylists cut my hair in a way that when it reverted to its natural state the front of my hair stands straight up because its just too short. I cannot do a wash an go with out pinning it down. If you don't know how to cut natural hair then don't do it. Don't make suggestions if you haven't dealt with that particular curl pattern. I paid for experience and care its not what I received. Disappointing. FYI H2 Salon is listed as one of the best in the city. Despite the lovely ambience, great shampoo girl, the stylist was subpar at best. I have been coming to this salon since 2015. I've had different stylists (Carmen (no longer there), Lorraine and and Dailey) touch my hair and they all are professional and do great work. This past Saturday, Marq did my hair and I am sticking with him! My taper cut had grown out majorly and I wanted the shape back. I showed him a collage I had created of my new hairstyle inspiration and he got busy. He is nasty with some clippers and scissors. I loooove how my cut turned out. Marq was the utmost professional, very warm and welcoming, made me feel comfortable and did an amazing job. I couldn't stop taking selfies! I feel so fresh and spring ready. It looks great and is going to grow out beautifully. I was so happy with my cut that I hugged him when he was finished. I appreciate his craft. His assistant did her job to its expectations to prep me for him and she was nice; she also gave a really nice scalp massage at the shampoo bowl that was very relaxing. She came off as a little flat though, maybe she wasn't having a good day that day but none the less, she did her job and was nice. I appreciated her professionalism and service. The environment was relaxing and calm. They renovated the space recently so you can tell they are still putting the finishing decoration touches on it. This was my first time here today. I came to get a cut by Marq. Let me first and foremost state that the service is astonishing and black owned. Each stylist was very welcoming to me and it felt so genuine. Let's get back to my stylist Marq. He listened to my concerns in regard to my hair needing to be styled and treated. He took me through the entire process from the begin to the end. We spoke the entire time of the service, his energy was positive and music in the salon was soothing and soulful with a mixture of genre. Marq suggested products to maintain my hairstyle, how to treat and moisture my hair especially for natural type 4C hair. I will have to buy the products needed and I can't wait to how off y style to the world. Yes, everyone in the salon wears a mask and Practice social distancing. This was my first time at H2 and it won't be my last. I started my appointment with anxiety and nervousness. I had a negative experience several years ago that kept me away from natural hair salons. This time around was quite the opposite, my stylist Marq was phenomenal!! The moment he greeted me I felt a sense of peace and calmness. He handled my damaged hair with tremendous amount of TLC. He explained every step as well as the process. Marq took his time to bring my hair back to life. He was so attentive and caring, I totally forgot that I was in a salon. It's been a bout a week and half and I can finally settle to write this review. I made an appointment with MARQ and he exceeded my expectation!!! Got to my appointment at 10:00, was seated in my chair about 10:05! The salon staff was very friendly, greeted me with lots of smiles and for those clients who appreciate walking into a space with good energy, the salon met me with good vibes right away! Now MARQ! I've had the luxury of having great stylists throughout the course of my TWA/color journey but it's very rare to come across a stylist who attentively listens, accesses/explains hair health in a way that gives you hope lol. On top of that who is a BOSS at color and CUT(with precision) all in one. Marq scores 10 on everything! I gave him a brief history of my past hair experience, he didn't past judgement on past stylists and was confident he could provide me with a look that work bests for me! Honorable! After stalking his instagram for while lol and finally getting an appointment with him, instinctively I had a lot of trust in him! He cut and colored my hair blonde to perfection. Often I would look up at the way he cut my hair, I never seen scissors move so smooth! Edward Scissor hands type skill lol!! This review is before I even got the services. This is about their scheduling system and customer service. I made this appointment 3 weeks ago to only be bumped out one hour before the appointment was suppose to start. I got a verbal confirmation as well as an online booking Id confirmation email when I made the appt and even a reminder text and email 2 days ago. They obviously knocked my appointment out for someone else. The appointment was moved 8.5 hours later in the day. I've completely rearranged my week so I can have this morning appointment today. I've recommended so many people to this salon and wish they didnt screw up so bad with this. The receptionist then tells me they can squeeze me in at 6:30pm, my appt was for 10am, the salon closes at 6. Its unfortunate cause they do good hair but after this I'll look elsewhere. Update: Changed my rating to a 4. So I went to my appointment and from start to finish it was absolutely amazing. Marc was my stylist and he knew there were scheduling issues. He apologized and was professional about it. My appt was for a hair cut and as this was the last appt of the day he was able to take his time. The cut was symmetric and everything I needed it to be. I finally received​ my first professional haircut​ since I became natural 5 years ago. I normally​ trim my ends however, my length remained the same shoulder​ length. After my trim,​ I would find more split ends so I decided to get it done professionally​. My stylist was Aida​. I received​ a deep condition, silk press,​ and haircut​ in that order all around $75. I was informed to come back every 3 months​ for a trim. I want to grow my hair much longer so I'll stay on top of my trims. Now when she was detangling my hair I did feel it was rough but I then realized I been doing my hair for years by myself​ so I am​ not used​ to others doing my hair. I've been a client for 5+ years, and I love my stylist's skills and aesthetics. It's fun and a treat to be in Lorraine's chair, and I always leave looking and feeling fly. Frankly, if you look around, there's all levels of hair artistry going on around you in this salon. I appreciate their commitment to policy and protocol -- reminder call, reiteration of the cash-only/late/cancellation policies. What gives me pause is the rigidity and absolute intolerance for the intermittent unpredictabilities of life. Personally, thanks to the whack MTA, I found myself having to get out of the subway and walk a mile to the salon for my last appointment and arrived just after the 15-minute grace period; I was charged a late fee that added an extra 30% to my services. Circumstance and previous track record didn't matter, which left a bad taste. I could understand the inflexibility if, say, clients were credited $5 for every 5 minutes they had to wait from appointment time to service time. But, neither is that the case, nor would a client expect that, as we understand hair services sometimes require extra time and care. I wish the same level of understanding could be extended to loyal clients. read more

I found H2 about 4 years ago, on Yelp, after moving back to NY. It's hard to find salons you can trust who will treat your hair with care, especially natural hair. I came in with all of my products on that first day and I know these ladies were laughing at me but they took care of my hair and I've been a client ever since! Lorraine is my stylist and she is pretty awesome! She's cut and colored my hair multiple times and I trust her a lot! My hair has remained healthy after each color treatment and I always leave with my hair looking sassy! You really can't go wrong with any of the stylists. When Lorraine has been away, Dailey has hooked me up and Char has helped me before. Lauren always gives me an awesome scalp massage during my washing and takes her time combing my curly hair. I have followed H2 Salon for years and watched the growth as well as the clients satisfaction. I went in January of this year 2021 to get a big chop & color, out with the old energy and in with the new good energy! I loved the service from the very beginning, I was greeted by the very friendly front desk staff; I wish I remembered her name. It was a nice calm vibe and you can tell it was clean and organized. I didn't have a long wait at all for my stylist Jahlena who was very pleasant from the start to the ending. The salon followed protocol for Covid which was great, I washed my hands then sat in Jahlena's chair where she worked her magic. I wish I had a before picture of my hair because honey ! The dominican hair salon fully damaged my curls. I had no choice but to get a big chop. (I digress) Back to Jahlena and her wonderful service, she offered me tea and even asked if I wanted honey. It was called throat coat to be exact it gave me life. As i sipped on the tea and chatted with Jahlena she helped me transform my damaged hair into the grown and sexy Zen. I was so scared because I never went this short but I got so many compliments and fell in love with the hairstyle. The color took pretty long to take but Jahlena made sure I was happy and her patience was truly a virtue. Also to mention she whistles while she works, her voice is beautiful and matches her energy as she taught me how to wash and go, her tips have helped me so much I never knew once you shake your head in a certain way your curls come to life. This salon is hit or miss. I went once in Sept 2020, service was pretty good. Went back in April and I booked with a stylist, they switched me the day of without letting me know in advance and then proceeded to talk crazy to me about needing my hair cut while straight. Mind you -- I mostly wear my hair in a Wash n go. If you know anything, you should get your hair cut in the way you typically wear it. They basically argued me down that my hair shape would remain the same (IT DID NOT) and to top it off, my hair started reverting in the chair so she added more heat -- resulting in heat damage. Long story short -- if you are a press/curl only or short style natural you may have some luck. Otherwise, keep looking. read more

I requested silk press and trim but after speaking with her we decided on a trim that will add shape. I left with a basic tapered cut 101-not at all what I asked for. I'm not a stranger to short hair so I chopped it up as whatever. Today I wake up and discover my cut isn't even. I'd like to request $30 refund so I can get a proper cut elsewhere. So I was referred to this salon via word of mouth and I'm happy I made the visit. I had a very good session and end result with the stylist, Mark. He was super friendly, engaging and informative on ways to upkeep look styled. I will definitely be visiting again! As I am big on service and professional etiquette I can't leave out the experience at the front desk. I think it's important to have great energy for the client upon entry and exit. The receptionist was very short and not as bright as the stylist was. In fact upon leaving, she collected payment and just had me standing there. Didn't mention that a receipt of services was being emailed to me so I stood there waiting only to scroll thru my emails and saw the receipt. When I asked her if we were done she said "oh were you waiting on me to say something?" Ummm yea! Like don't assume I knew the next steps nor assume that I'm a regular because it was my 1st visit. My new go-to for my monthly deep conditioner and blowout. Appointments are easy to make either online and via phone, and I've always been seated on time. Marq and D are amazing and are always helpful in showing me new ways to care for my hair, going so far as to recommending products and treatments going forward - I fully trust them and won't go anywhere else. The space is nice and clean, the vibe is relaxed, the clients are very respectful and and the service is amazing. The prices are reasonable unlike other salons, and well-worth the extra step of hitting up an ATM machine (they have one in-store.) These stylists do AMAZING hair!! I've been three times over the years. The ambiance is super inviting and feels upscale though it's a bit secluded and small inside. The only reason why they're not getting 5 stars is because 1.) I've had better client service without the diva attitude, impatience, and fear of creativity 2.) When I arrived at the salon the receptionist greeted me with great energy and enthusiasm; she made me smile. There was positive music playing in the background and the salon layout and decor looked great as well. Things are looking positive so far for my first time here. The environment and faces I've seen made me feel good and that I was in the right place. I begun conversing with a woman seated in the waiting area across from me and positive things to say about her experience at the salon. I didn't wait long at all for Marq to arrive. I appreciate the way he welcomed me and made me feel comfortable. Before he even got started, he took the time first to discuss with me what I would like to achieve with my hair today. He asked questions with what I've personally been doing with my hair. Marq listened to me give my hair woes and goals. I had some length at this point but I was with okay with cutting shorter to give my hair a healthy baseline to restart. The salon assistant that washed my hair did a lovely job.Every part of my services was professional and also timely which was great! I did not wait for any extended periods of time to wash, deep condition and back in the chair to start the process. Like many of you, this natural hair game is not new to me. I've been natural for all of my life. I've gone to SO many natural hair salons in Manhattan. At some I have been 'instructed' on how to care for my hair. Others, people just go in and start working like they've known me all of my life. Here's what I loved about my first visit at H2. 1. Char, my stylist asked me about my hair and LISTENED to me talk about how I've worn it and want it. I brought a picture so that she could get a sense of how I often wear it before my new cut. She is the professional, and she skillfully listened to what I wanted, went over my options, made some suggestions and then went to work! 2. They did not try to sell me anything. Some salons push so many products that they do not pay attention to the customer. 3. The beautiful customers left happy, and stylists were pleasant, professional and talking WItH their clients, not At them. Making an appointment was easy. 4. Salon is minimal and sleek. 5. The stylists all know and care about natural hair. Some customers left with a healthy silk press, others with their gorgeous coils. 6. Price was fair. Trust me. I've spent a lot more for my hair and NOT liked the style OR cut. Char provided me with EXACTLY the style I wanted! My cut is symmetrical perfection! I was told how to maintain it, and I woke up ready to go- which never happens. I enjoyed her easy, light conversation. My sister in law has worked with one of the stylists for years. So I have been trying to get an appointment here for some time! And I was finally able to yesterday ! My experience was great! Everyone was very nice and professional! Ambiance was nice and the salon was very clean and modern! I had the most amazing hair wash and scalp cleaning (Cita) !! And my Hair Stylist Melissa was amazing ! I got a Silk Press! I was nervous about having to get my hair cut but knew it needed to be done in order for my hair to get back healthy ! Melissa explained my hair issues and what type of cut , shampoo and regimen would be best for my hair !! I was very pleased with the results !!! My hair feels and looks so much better! I've been going to h2 salon for several years and haven't had issues in the past. However, due to this particular incident just now I will not be returning. I scheduled a 5:00 pm appointment about 2 weeks ago for a style and cut. I called them 4 days prior to my appointment informing a gatekeeper/receptionist who answered, I had a last minute work conflict and wanted to call to reschedule. After discussing rescheduling options, I asked her if an option was for me to get there 20-30 mins after my original appointment time and she reassured me it was fine and that she would write a note in the system stating I would be running late. She made zero mention of a late fee and she seemed very accommodating. Today is the day of my appointment. I called at 5:20 pm to let them know that I was about to walk over and made mention that there should a note saying I would be running behind because I called the Thursday prior. I shared with them the above conversation, and this new gatekeeper's response was that I would be charged and additional $40 for being late to my 5:00 pm appointment. I respectfully said this wasn't fair bc the receptionist I spoke to on Thursday made no mention of the late fee and SHE was the one who recommended I come in later rather than rescheduling my appointment. H2 salon needs to ensure their receptionists are more communicative about the late fees and the expectations. I finally said I was going to cancel the appt because at this point I was frustrated about the lack of communication from their business and the response i got was they were going to charge me full price for not showing up. I simply replied that it was fine because I would just block the payment from my account. Their response was that I would be put on the blocked client list. So much drama and lack of decorum because of the lack of communication on THEIR end. I love supporting black businesses, but this was uncalled for and poor business etiquette. It's not that hard to communicate to clients what is to be expected for an appointment and be consistent about it to ALL clients esp if they're calling ahead of time to reschedule appointments. I'm giving them 2 starts because of their lack of communication and their lack of care/decorum for their clients. I gladly won't be returning, there are other salons in the area. read more

Love love love my experience here every time! The first time I came for a color correction because a different salon messed up on the red dye they put on my natural hair. Dailey sat there and explained what went wrong and what to expect going forward. She fixed the color to what I asked for (I said red, but I really meant burgundy, so I came back again and she fixed it to what I really wanted). Both times she was patient and understanding and really worked her magic! (The red color she came to the first time was really nice, I personally just didn't have the confidence to rock it because it was really bright, but she really gives you what you ask for, so make sure you're being precise & know what you want!) Then I received a silk press & cut from Adia. Never in my life was a cut that precise! My hair looks good and I've received sooo many compliments. They def. work at their craft. Okay first off I'm totally obsessed with my hair ! I'm completely in love and so happy I came across this salon on IG. The owner of the salon is a beautiful soul. Thismorning she did my hair and from the moment I sat in her chair till when I left I felt she was very attentive and warming. She was able to accommodate me and I was more than pleased. Marq is amazing, he has a gift. I got a cut from him and he was gentle, took his time, and he paid great attention to detail. Which is probably why it's hard to get appointments. The place is pretty and clean and they seem to take COVID seriously. The chairs are spread out and folks were wearing masks through their entire appointments. I can't say enough good things about H2! The stylists are personable (and honest!), professional, and *skilled*! Because we've all been to salons that have SOME of these things - but you really need to have them ALL when it's a matter of hair. I've been going to Dailey for years because, simply put, she keeps me fly! She listens to what I want, even when I'm not sure what I want, and I always walk out feeling gorgeous. This is a great place for hair of different textures. I've brought many a friend - black, white, latina - and they've come out feeling really about their cut/style/color. ALRIGHT Y'ALL. LEMME TELL YOU. I've been natural for about 17 years and I've had just about every style done to my hair, locs, braids, twists, cornrows, press n curls, sew-in weaves, you name it, I've probably done it. My senior year of high school, I OD'd on the press n curls and had so much heat damage after 10 months that I had to do my second BC (first was to cut my locs off) my freshmen year of college. I was terrified for the longest time about straightening my hair but in the last couple of years, I've itching to see how long it's gotten. After failed attempts at other salons in the city and out, I stumbled up on H2 on Yelp and was super impressed with the quality of work, level of service, and the prices. SO I was like, lemme give this a shot. Y'all. Y'ALLLLLLLLL. First off, this place is professional AND Black. I hate that folks think a salon can't be both, but H2 PROVES it can be done. Like I LIIIIIIVE for stylists who not only treat you with respect, but also are human beings who sing along to the tracks playing in the salon, have great conversation with you and the folks around you, and just create community. Second, the pricing was SO reasonable. Eight or so years ago in KC, I paid $50 for a press n curl, so $65 in BK in 2016 for this style is MORE than reasonable to me. It IS cash only, which is a little bummer, but they have an ATM (a cute swanky one at that) RIGHT in the reception area, so it's a lot more convenient. The fee is kind of high, but I get ATM fees reimbursed, so it isn't an issue for me. If it costs you a lot (like a bank fee and an ATM fee), get cash beforehand so you don't play yourself. Third, Adia is everything. She did my hair and when I tell you she SLAYED it, I mean she SLAYED it. I didn't know my hair could get this straight with just a blowdryer and a flat iron. I grew up in Kansas City where the pressing combs were in full effect. I had a wedding the following day and she told me exactly how to keep my hair so that it would not only keep well, but also allow me to have it looking the bomb once I arrived at the venue. AWL of the stylists were killing it when I was there (I saw another blowout/flat iron, a girl with long hair get cut into a bob, a dye job, everythingggg), so it seems no matter what, you'll be taken care of.
