After reading many reviews I decided to go in for a big chop. Making an appointment was easy the receptionist was super nice and I had no problem making an appointment. She told me the price up front so there were no surprises when I got there. I booked an appointment with Marq the senior stylist and yes it cost more but it was worth every penny. He was professional and made me feel comfortable. Not to mention my cut was on point so much so I could not stop touching my hair. Ok so I'm recently natural and did my big chop about 8 months ago and I did it my self. Needless to say I was in Desperate need of a trim! I went in search of a local salon that was not operated by Domicans for fear of the heat damage that would follow a wash and set. I did a yelp search and came across H2 and I am soooooo glad I did. I made an appointment for a Monday afternoon and almost walked right by the place, it is small and quint but beautifully decorated inside. The Receptionist was friendly took my coat and offered me something to drink. I only waited maybe 5 minutes before I was greeted by Dailey who went right to work. She proceeded to to wash and condition my hair l, she asked about my hair care routine and explained each product she used in my hair. She washed, conditioned, blow dryed, flat ironed and cut my hair in 1 and a half hours! I was so amazed especially being used to being in the salon at least 2 hours. She took such good care of my hair! Blow dryed my hair on medium heat and making sure to use heat protectant. My hair was extremely uneven once straight so she advised u needed a cut not a trim I was a little nervous especially after having experiences with scissor happy stylist but I was so so impressed with the cut she gave me. I walked out of the salon feeling like a whole new Woman!!! My hair was bone straight like I got relaxer it was bouncy, full and most of all healthy. I was shopping around for a salon that specializes in natural hair. I've been natural for about 3 years and suffered from a lot of heat damage from all the blowouts and flat ironing. The salon is tucked away midblock and can be easily missed. I would recommend an awning of some kind outside the salon for easier spotting. The receptionist was amazing. She helped me checkin and made me feel right at home. She gave me the exact break down of each style. I had a few gripes: 1. Pricing was too high. I requested a big chop and never imagined "removing" hair would cost so much. Maybe I'm not used to specialty salons or have grown accustomed to my $25 blow-outs... 2. If I wanted to modify my style, it was a huge deal. Styling my hair would require an additional $100 and same for color if I didn't request it before walking in. Also, my stylist wouldn't be able to perform color and styling for me..id have to wait for the next available stylist which isn't guaranteed since they have their own clients and they are strict about sticking to their itinerary for the day. My stylist did a great job cutting off my damaged ends and adding body. She gave me tips on how to manage my hair as well as recommended products for maintenance. My second time visiting but it will definitely be my last. While booking my appt via phone i wasnt notified of a late fee i called to let the receptionist know i was running a little late she never mentioned anything about a late fee just said "okay no problem" i sat in the chair and no "late fee " was mentioned . Upon completion of my service a late fee of $40 was added to my bill. I explained to her nobody mentioned this to me and she still made me pay the fee. They had 3 opportunities to mention the late fee charge prior to me getting serviced, but of course they didnt because they knew i probably wouldnt have went through with the service. $40 is ridiculous and I definitely felt robbed. I had an appointment booked for my mom the next day and cancelled it. Black businesses make it so hard to support them & its sad . Not to mention i received a cell phone ticket for that call that i made. I was better off not calling i wouldve made it there within the 15 minute grace period had i not been pulled over . so yea that was my morning that set the tone for my entire day. I went here for the first time 6 months ago and received a trim. My overall experience was just ok. I wasn't 100% satisfied, but for the price and location it was fine. I chose to return here 3 months ago because I had a few friends that had amazing experiences. My experience this time was fab. I loved my hair and the stylist was nice, I even scheduled my next trim 3 months in advance. Now as life may have it, I was unable to keep my appointment and called the day before to reschedule, but they are closed, so I had to call the day of. I never received a confirmation phone call prior to my appointment. So I figured it was fine to call and reschedule. I wanted to make an appointment on a Saturday for my mom, who wanted color and a trim, and myself for a trim. But I was told there was a $40 change fee. After talking to the rude receptionist, she told me I would have to speak to a manager but no one was currently available. As someone who has never canceled an appointment or was called to confirm the appointment, I shouldn't be required to pay a change fee. 5-Star Atmosphere with 1.5 Star Outcome... Initially loved the salon when I came for my first visit. The big draw to visit the salon was for my haircut appointment with Marq. After that first session, we had a plan of action and our next visit would be for maintenance only. Fast forward to last week's appointment, after a thorough discussion/communication, I thought we were on the same page. Welllll, between the appointment before me running late, which made my appointment run far too long, it wasn't a good experience. This is by far the best salon I've EVER been to! It's clean, everyone is so friendly and SUPER FLY! I got my first cut done after transitioning back to being natural. Dailey did an AMAZING job, ensuring that I still had some length when it was all said and done. That was 4 months ago. I went back this past Saturday to get a trim and color. I've always been picky about my hair but I totally trust the ladies of this salon so I let Dailey do her thing. And hunnnniieeeee let me tell you! She is EVERYTHING! My hair came out soooo good! Love love love this salon! And shout out to the very fierce Chardonae who did my wash and blow out! Pricing, I believe, is totally reasonable. I've heard some people say they felt it was a little pricey but it's YOUR HAIR! You have to pay to look good and keep it healthy. Well to spend $130 on a jacked up haircut wasn't enough, the snotty girl at the front desk wanted to add a $40 late fee(I didn't know)but then said nevermind as I reminded her that I Called and she did not tell me then There will be a $40 charge...I'm saying the haircut is jacked up basically because I'm not happy with it and it is not what the stylist CHAR and I discussed initially. I was under the impression that she knew what that meant (Sensitive scalp and hair loss) and I Didn't want to go on and on about Because I figured she already knew ...Unfortunately as she saw that I had some more bald patches SHE decided to do something else. I had forewarned to her to basically even out and shape the hair( I did have left...which ranged ofrom 1 1/2 to 4 inches) also that I can't have any dryer to my scalp but her and staff seemed to ignore me...‍I messed up by still trying to comply by requesting lowest/cool setting ... but as it was still kind of on the warm plus side... I came out....and when I did I got side eyes and Hastiness... this was my third time at this place...I expected better customer service/hospitality as they are kind of pricey. Im left with about 2cm or less all around with these bald patches all around! (How about I don't even know about all of them as They were behind my ear and I could not even see the severity) As I am one who had a recent hair tragedy, the stylist should be more accommodating and receptive. Also it is very important to discuss any changes to a hairstyle with a client beforehand . I'm very disappointed. Okay, I really want to like this place, I think there's great energy and nothing but good intentions. I asked for a trim (stylist, Adia was super nice and lots of potential) that ended up being a haircut. Not just because she took off WAY more hair than she probably needed to but because she completely removed the layers a previous stylist did in my hair. And replaced it with more of a traditional fro. When she was done another stylist complimented her on her giving me a great cut....I didn't want a haircut though. I LOVED the haircut I had that a previous stylist gave me. The shape was perfect for my face. I simply needed to trim off the dead ends. Also, I know everyone's hair is different but the products they used in my hair dried it out. You can actually hear how crunchy it is. Wish I could share a video. I know another girl gets her hair cut here and it looks great but she has the owner do it. Minor things: - I was offered tea and was given it in a cup with someone else's lipstick on it. I told Marq that I had a wedding to go to and that I needed him to work his magic. When he said can I take some before pics I said sure because no one asks if they can do a before picture unless they know that their going to deliver on the end product. Deliver he did. Upon arrival the receptionist, the assistant who washed my hair and then stylist Marq were all professional. I'd been getting haircuts at my sons barber for the past year since cutting off my locs and would usually just wash my hair and let it air dry. I had no idea what was going on with my head. There was way more length than I realized but the hair was ridiculously uneven. Marq took his time and groomed it beautifully. I am saddened that I have to leave a review of this nature. I called to make an appointment and was told that I had been blocked, for rude and inappropriate behavior with a staff member. I was so shocked that I swore it could not be me. After being put on hold, I was told I was rude to the receptionist. I was still adamant that I had no such encounter; My last appt was in June and its is now January. They did have a receptionist that was less than welcoming but outside of hello and thank you I never spoke a word to her. I only ever interacted with the wash girl who I asked not comb my hair so roughly and my stylist. So I would have to next assume I was blocked from service due to some personal animosity. This is highly unprofessional and I know I had called for an appt since my last appt and they didn't have a spot available and even then I had not been told I was blocked. I've been to this location 3 times and my last time was terrible. I unfortunately had to switch hair stylists at the last minute due to a change in schedule and boy, do i regret it. Lorraine did my hair the first two visits and she is incredibly talented and down to earth. Also did an amazing job on my hair. Wasn't able to grab an appointment with her so I was given another one with an experienced hair stylist...so i thought. Not only did she overprocess the hell out of my hair, the hairstylist sent me home with a free (aw) bottle of olaplex (which was previously used lol) as a parting gift for basically ruining my hair. I had such an amazing experience at H2 Salon. The salon is beautiful, clean, and professional. I went in for a major cut and Marq and Tammy were great! Tammy assisted Marq and took care of my wash and deep conditioning while Marq, the head stylist, cut my hair, and did a wash and go treatment while teaching me the steps along the way. After he recommended products suited for my hair, which was super helpful. I'd read all of the reviews on here about how prompt they are so I was excited, especially considering that my previous salon was the polar opposite of prompt. DAY OF: On the day of my appointment, I woke up at 7 AM since I was traveling from New Jersey and made it to Brooklyn by 9:45 AM. When I arrived, I was surprised to see that the salon hadn't opened yet, especially because if you have a client that starts at 10 AM, you would think that you would arrive early and prep for that client. Because it was my first time at the salon, I gave them the benefit of the doubt and happily waited. I should note that there were two stylists there who are also waiting for the salons open. One who not so quietly complained to the other how upset she was that this always happens since "everyone lives so close." (I later noted her name was April) The stylist with the key promptly arrived at 10 AM and opened the door. I should note, that she did not speak to anyone who was waiting. She seem to be having a rough morning and went right to her job. Marq, A stylist who was also waiting at 9:45, ushered us all in and asked me and one other client who was waiting to have a seat. I sat and waited for about 10 minutes before I was asked for my name and what stylist I was here to see. It was clear to me that the stylist I had booked for my color was not there yet, as the other stylists we're not so quietly whispering "where is she" and "what are we going to do". The owner, Dailey walked in at about 1030, happily greeted everyone and begin to tend to some business. At about 1045, The other stylist I was there to see, Char, stepped away from the client that she was attending to and briefly checked in with me because she had seen that I was waiting for quite some time. She talk to me a little bit about what cut I was looking to get, the maintenance that it would take, and advised me to take a look at other cuts while I was waiting. I really liked her. Shortly after, Dailey got wind that I had been waiting since 10 AM and asked me what I want to get and said that she would do my style. It was then even clearer to me that my stylist that I chose was not coming in. No one explained to me that she was not coming in or gave me the option to reschedule my appointment. Marq and the H2 Salon are definitely providing exceptional, clean, safe "essential" haircare services to their clients. This was my first experience there. I was extreeemely anxious about visiting a public salon to get my much anticipated "big-chop" after Corona Virus hit the scene... I felt very comfortable in this environment. Wow. Let me tell you about my experience here and with the owner (Daly), then you can decide if this is the type of place that you are ok going to. So I am a mom of two toddlers with a busy job. I have barely 10 minutes to myself to get ready and out the door, which is so not conducive to taking care of natural hair. Daly said some very rude and unnecessarily mean things, discouraging me from doing what I was doing with my hair (relax, moisturize and braid in repeat to let it grow while putting wigs/half wigs). "what are you going to braid" she scoffed at one point. She said some other really mean and nasty things that put me down. I did not want to not have time for my hair. I was trying to juggle kids plus work plus life. Then she offered to braid it for me as the only service she can do given her "professional" stance. I'm not sure she realized the irony or contradiction. She did not have to do anything she thought was wrong, but why be so terribly mean, condescending and dismissive? I had been searching for a black owned beauty salon and I finally found it in H2 Salon. The staff were absolutely professional and courteous and the music was awesome. When I met Marq he changed my life. He was extremely patient, knowledgeable, and explained the products he used and what to treat my hair. He even gave me helpful tips to keep it healthy while I was home. He also took it a step further and referred me to an African American Dermatologist. I made an appt for a hair cut via phone specifically requesting Lorraine because she was recommended by a friend. Lorraine asked what kind of shape I wanted. I recommended she cut what was needed to be cut and for her to just "do her thing" (my ends had color leftover). Lorraine cut ALOT of hair which I didn't expect and I didn't think I needed as I had just gotten a trim in February. She had also recommended a wash and go because she liked my texture and thought that it would turn out beautiful. This would be my second time getting a wash and go. She put me back in the sink and wet my hair completely and begin raking gel throughout my hair and then instructed me to shake my hair quickly back/forth and up/down which I thought was a bit weird but went along with it she said it was to prevent frizzing or something like that. I say under the dryer for 30-45 minutes so that it could dry. When it was finished she stretched it and put a small amount of cream or oil. My curls were not defined and my hair didn't look like much for $110. I will not be returning to H2. Only reason I'm giving 2 stars is because I liked Lorraine's personality. read more

Had an amazing experience with my big chop today at H2 Salon! Marq my stylist was AMAZING! Not only did he give me the cut I've been wanting for about 2yrs now, he was very friendly and made sure I was comfortable both in the environment and with my cut. He took the time to explain step by step as he styled my hair and gave me hair care advice and product suggestions to go home with! Truly loved my experience with him and I do plan to come back!
