I needed a place to to stay while my house was being constructed so this worked perfectly as they give you a lot of space and a full kitchen to cook in. Unfortunately the cookware they provide isn't the best quality so if you have some, I would bring your own. Overall the room was clean, but everything inside is old so it may give some people the feeling that its not clean. Good news is they seem to be in process of updating the rooms so I think this will improve. Currently it seems some of the rooms have some issues so I wouldn't expect perfection when you come here, but the staff is nice and will try to help. My first room started out great but after a storm the Wifi signal became very weak. So the staff moved us to a new room that had and updated kitchen appliances. So everything seemed great till i realized the water there didn't get as hot as the previous room. I didn't feel like moving all my stuff again though so I just stayed in that room. Some other good points about this hotel are the free breakfast and happy hour. Both were nice to offers to make me look past some of the hotels shortcoming. So i give this place a solid four stars because the issues were minor to me and the price was very affordable plus its really close drive to downtown so I liked the location. read more

My husband and I wanted to escape our five children for a night in Austin. It was in celebration of our 15th wedding anniversary. We always prefer off-the-beaten-path types of places. This was perfect and quite a surprise. The neighborhood does feel more industrial. Sugar's is next door (which I only knew because I finally saw the sign last night on our way back). This is not an issue. The positive aspect of its location is that you are right next to all major thoroughfares, and can get almost anywhere in Austin from this point in about a half hour or less. This is an apartment complex turned hotel. Meaning: full kitchens, separate bedrooms and lots of room. Our weekend rate was $99 - AMAZING! The landscaping is wonderful ... WONDERFUL. Indigenous plants, ivy covering walls. Plenty of attention is given to the natural aspect. The building and the furnishings are not necessarily new and modern. Instead, they are in fine condition and being used. I prefer longevity over wastefulness. Right up my alley. Habitat has a 9 pm - 9 am quiet hour policy, which is posted throughout every walkway in the courtyard. There are instructions in your suite, inviting you to anonymously report any noise issues. The courtyard (including the pool/hot tub) is very small, intimate and lovely. I could never fully describe the breakfast. Choices included organic options, natural sugars, environmentally responsible coffees, rice milk ... the list goes on. There was a full hot breakfast bar, as well as a full line of cold items. When finished, your plates, silverware and cloth napkins are taken to the counter where they are washed and reused. Nothing goes in the trash. OH MY SOUL. I was in love. We already plan to bring the entire family back for a long weekend. read more

My Stay was Nov 5 to 8th 1. Staff are not very knowledgeable. 2. They rely on asking management which is not available. 3. Internet only works for one device at a time. So if you and someone else try to connect to Wi-Fi, forget it - it will boot one or the other off. Internet is also very slow, if any. 4. BED BUGS, SPIDERS, Mosquito's in the room. 5. All support staff like house keeping leave by 3PM, go to the front desk to get anything after 3PM. 6. Staff are also not sympathetic to having BED BUGS in the room - which is never acceptable. 7. A/C, Microwave, TV HDMI Ports, Beds, Refrigerators - all are either broken - do not operate as you program, no power in the designated port. 8. Phones are old school corded with just a 10 key pad and the */# sign. Use your best judgement to call front desk. 9. All rooms have OSHA Violations despite being moved from one room to another. 10. Bathtubs Clog will clog up easily. The bathroom sink - water does not flow and temperatures are not fully adjustable. 11. Bathtubs maybe missing bath towel holders. Not to mention a rubber liner as their "non slip tub flooring" has wore down to the point you can slip and hurt yourself. 12. The Road ways are terrible. Parking is terrible. There are also direct walk ways around the resort to your room, you will walk on the unevenly broken paved street. 13. Poorly lighted areas at night and poor insulation hearing any and everyone walking past your room. 14. visible cracks in the bathroom tiles, poorly done caulking around bathtub. 15. Oh last but not least breakfast starts at 8AM and ends by 10PM - kitchen starts closing down by 9:45AM Also keep in mind that I was told I over-reacted when I saw bed bugs craw right off the sheets when I pulled the covers away. I discovered Habitat Suites through priceline.com. The price was right ($109 for a suite) and it was near enough to The Vortex, where we had tickets to see "Dracula" on its closing night. After a little investigation before booking, I surmised this was an old apartment complex given new life, and I was correct. The grounds were lush with greenery despite it being the beginning of December. The sidewalk have been painted red, and at night there was nice lighting. There were recycling bins and even a charging station for electric cars. Upon booking I found out I could request a suite with a fireplace and was told there would he Duraflame logs when I called ahead. Nice! Upon arrival, I checked in and asked about the log. There were none at the time, but I was told to check back later because the manager was going to bring some. The suite was nice. I had barely put my bag down when the phine rang. It was the front desk asking if my room was satisfactory... I said yes, even though I hadn't had the chance to check it out. Sofabed, chair, coffee table, TV, lanps all in working order. Desk, phone... And corner fireplace! The kitchen was equipped with dishes, utensils, pots n pans, toaster, coffemaker and fridge...even soap and sponges to wash up if you cooked. There was even a live pothos ivy on the breakfast bar. The bedroom had a beautifully gigantic king bed, dresser, etc. The bathroom only had 3 towels, so I called to get more since there were two of us. I was told I would have to retrieve them myself, which I did. I asked the desk clerk to please call the room once logs arrived.there is a happy hor between 5-7 pm with beer, wine and apps but we did n After napping, we dressed and went out for our evening. When we got back around 12:30 am, I checked the phone but no message. I called the front desk, and was disappointed to find no logs, but instead was offered an extra blanket. Ok, I accepted it and was told it would be brought to the room... But that never happened. After waiting half an hour, I went to the car and got my own blanket and went to bed. (It should be noted each room has energy saving thermostats and ours worked but I prefer to sleep under several blankets. Breakfast is free here, and it is something Habitat can boast about. You can order free range eggs, one of their choices of creative breakfast plates, or just do toast or a bagel, fruit, or even biscuits and gravy. There is gluten-free bread, groats, cereal... This is the best free breakfast I have ever seen. Habitat Suites has earned awards for being eco-minded, and it shows. And while our suite (apartment) was clean and well-appointed, I was not 100% satisfied. If you have fireplaces and use that as a selling point, have logs available at all times or make it crystal clear that guests have to bring their own. Also, guests should never have to retrieve necessaries such as towels themselves. And especially do not tell a guest something will be brought to their room then blow it off-- that is not what hospitality is all about. You can have the nicest hotel but when staff downright lies to a guest, it ruins the entire stay. read more

We just checked out this morning. We stayed 3 nights. We have been here the last 3 yrs during motogp race in April. We love it here. The suite is big. We love how quiet it is. No one running down and hall or hearing an elevator. Love that they are earth friendly. The rooms need updating but we can over look that. It was clean and staff are friendly. The free breakfast is good. The salsa during evening cocktail hour is bad. Free drinks . We will be back next year. Wish list: fan in the bedroom. Taller vanity. This establishment was beyond disappointing, to say the least... Disgusting, broken down and the General Manager is an absolute joke of a manager. Where should i begin? The Location: When i booked the hotel, it seemed to display the property location shortly outside of Downtown. Since i was there for 4th of July festivities, that sounded perfect. It's actually a bit further than that and delicately placed across from what appears to be an abandoned shopping mall. It's rather creepy and doesn't give a very warm welcome at all. It's also nestled right across from a strip club, how quaint... The Property: From the photos, it looks like there is lots of greenery, flowers, bushes and the like. It gave a very lively and relaxing feel from the photos. Upon arrival, there was indeed a bit of greenery, but it seemed more of an overgrowing problem and lack of landscaping more than anything. The Room: This is where the first half of my main complaint lies. "Stylish Furniture" they boasted in the listings seemed like they came straight out of my grandmothers house. Stylish is certainly not the term i would use to describe the decor. With pink wall paint, some very interesting patterned wallpaper and creepy framed newspaper clippings, i'm not sure how i got any sleep at all. Speaking of sleeping, the beds at this place felt much like sleeping on a pallet of cardboard. My new chiropractor will appreciate the business from the Habitat Suites. The lighting all throughout is extremely dim and gives a very dingy feel to the whole place. When we arrived, we dropped our things and headed into the city for some fun. When we got back to the hotel later that evening and decided to wash up, we discovered our toilet would not flush. When i called the front desk, i was promptly told i could "come get a plunger". I don't think he understood... That wasn't the issue. The toiled just flat out would not flush. It just filled with water. To top it off, there were also no soap or shampoo available in our hotel room. The next morning i spoke to a manager at the front desk who moved us to another room. How kind. In an effort to put it behind us, we accepted the move and again went back into downtown for some more fun. After getting home late, i woke up early for a bathroom break only to discover (you guessed it) this toilet didn't flush either. At this point i was extremely frustrated. At over $100 a night, this place wasn't worth half the money i'd spent. The Staff: Aside from the overnight desk assistant who refused to do anything aside form issuing us a plunger, the rest of the day-to-day staff was very nice and helpful. One lady was even sympathetic of our situation. After all the issues and discomfort we had experienced, we decided to check out a day early and go home to something actually comfortable. When i went to check out, i was able to speak with a General Manager. This gentleman, if i can even call him that, was exceptionally rude and unhelpful. When i requested a refund for the night we would not be staying and that i would greatly appreciate a refund or partial refund for the night in which we experienced so many issues. He only met me with hostility and refusal for any amount of a refund. This, only after accusing us of putting bars of soap in our toilet to cause the issues ourselves. I was flabbergasted. It was obvious i wouldn't be getting anywhere with this guy. I ended up calling Orbitz and getting one night refunded and am still trying to figure out how to get my money back from these people. Final Words: Take your money elsewhere. This is, unfortunately, nothing but a terribly ran flea bag hotel. It may not have ruined our trip to Austin, but it certainly didn't make it any more comfortable. My only hopes are that the General Manager reads this and sees how unprofessional he was in his accusations. That, and that this review keeps some people from wasting their hard earned money on such a shoddy establishment. read more

I like this place. I don't get the whining. Anyone can have a bad stay somewhere but I have 150 room nights every year and I think this place is great. I bought it on Priceline for $79. Every Hilton property was over $200 this weekend. Ridiculous. This was better than just about every Hampton I've ever stayed at. No scented Febreeze here! Great breakfast, free drinks and snacks at night. Cool eco friendly rooms. Organic coffee in your room with a full kitchen. Sure, it's not downtown. Boo hoo, spend big dollars and get the location you want but don't whine about it as if it's got anything to do with this place. The staff was friendly, helpful and responsive. We had a great stay. True to it's green billing. You are close to mass transit that is very good, the bus and rail went everywhere we needed to go. The price was great. The rooms are huge and if you have an extra in your party, the pull out couch and separate living area is welcomed. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The room was very clean and well appointed. Not the latest and greatest but why should they jettison perfectly usable stuff just because its a little dated. That's part of being green too. This hotel, at best, is average, not the great hotel as it is mentioned in many reviews and guide books. This is an award-winning green hotel. My niece called to report a running toilet. When still nobody came to fix it hours later, she called again and was asked to shut off the water valve. We both thought that a green hotel would want to correct water problems immediately and why would they ask a guest to act like a plumber and shut off a water valve? I checked in separately later than she did and was told they don't have my reservation. Instead of asking me for my confirmation/questions, I had to tell the front desk person about my niece checking in separately. This may not sound bad, but this was after arriving exhausted at 11 pm after a delayed flight. There were many minor maintenance problems with the room so the manager moved us to another room and I had the same problem with the toilet in that room. When I called I spoke to the mgr who said "it may be the flapper," when I told him we were going out, he said he'd fix it and did. Overall, the bathrooms have dingy wallpaper dating back to the '60s or '70s. My porcelain bathtub had obvious scrape damage to its side. Bathrooms feel creepy and unclean because of it. Its one thing to be green, this place is in need of renovation and not worth the money they charge. Their complimentary breakfast and happy hour is good. However, I saw the same manager at breakfast and he did not say hello to me and I found most of the staff except one woman manager to be unprofessional. It was hard to tell how they implemented their green policy. Most hotels these days have a policy about guests letting them know when they want their towels and bedding changed. Housekeeping did come in everyday and replaced towels where I stayed even when none were left on the floor or bathtub as stated as their green policy. The worst thing was my niece's blanket had brown stains on it, hopefully water stains. When she left the card on her bedding which is the hotel's instructions when you want bedding changed for 2 days in a row, the blanket was never changed. ANOTHER VERY IMPORTANT THING FOR FAMILY TRAVELERS TO KNOW is that there is a strip club located right next door. Didn't see anything objectionable, but people should know that. Also, the Highland Mall across from hotel is closing down and the surrounding neighborhood is a deserted business area. It is quiet, but depressing and a little uncomfortable feeling of not being safe at night. The hotel grounds are not well-lit at night. Some of the photos and descriptions of the hotel grounds also do not live up to expectations. There is no garden really, just a landscaped area with a few tables around the pool which is also smaller than it appears in photos. read more

My family of 3 adults and 2 kids is in town for a spring break road trip through TX and Austin is our last stop. Habitat Suites has worked out perfectly! Our 2 BR/2 BA suite was $159/night - compared with north of $400+ night for similar accommodations closer to downtown. The breakfast was outstanding, and the daily happy hour is a nice touch. Rooms/buildings are a bit dated, but perfectly comfortable. I would not have wanted to stay here without a car, but it's only a 10-15 minute drive downtown and we've been able to get everywhere we wanted very easily. With two little kids in tow, we don't need to be right in the center of the action anymore. I'd recommend it, and would happily stay here again! read more

On the road for ten days and we have stayed at several different chains from bad to worse. What a refreshing change we found here. Clean comfortable suites with down comforters on the bed. Quiet restful surroundings with beautiful gardens. Really nice happy hour and the best hotel breakfast anywhere. Top that with the best, most helpful staff and I don't want to leave! I rented a room for 2 nights in Austin. I have several bits on my back and neck that happened while I was sleeping. They also need to work more with 3rd party companies to make sure their room inventory is correct. My friend reserved a room big enough for his family and they did get the correct reservations, and the front desk staff told him they were all out of the room he reserves. We checked in at 3:30. An addition friend arrived at 5:00 pm the same day and they offered him the room my 1st friend requested. My 1st friend cancelled his reservation and rented a room from a different hotel. Next time I'll be looking for a different hotel in Austin. read more

Think of this place as a laid back, Residence Inn with character. Manager was very accommodating when it turns out our desired duo of 2-bedroom suites wouldn't meet the needs of a couple in our party (a reunion of sorts of ex-dorm mates from UT days, 47 years ago - with one on crutches and another having had a knee replacement). She gave us each a King Suite because all were on the first floor instead. The included breakfast and small 'happy hour' and the courtyard with older, brick-trimmed pool and landscaping were perfect to defuse from a long day - or to ready ourselves for venturing out to dinner. Great location as well. All this in a peak visitor time of the Austin City Limits music festival. Super. read more

The rooms were well maintained and very clean, and not just physically clean! The entirety of the hotel is to be environmentaly friendly and the clean hotel rooms have many features! An overall enjoyable experience at a reasonable price - Clean rooms, good friendly service, and a relaxing atmosphere in the salt water pool/court yard garden. Guests are encouraged to pick fruit and herbs of the trees and in the garden to eat and cook with in their suites. REALLY enjoy my stay here each time. This hotel is a refurbished small apartment complex so the rooms are really one and two bedroom apartments with full kitchens, appliances, pans, microwave, dishes etc to make one feel right at home. So, if you want to save $ you can bring your own food and prepare your meals. I love the full breakfast featuring local fresh foods such as eggs, sausage, groats, etc. There is a happy hour in the evenings with snacks. Quiet hours begin at 10 PM so you can get a good night's rest. But it's Austin..who wants to sleep. The pool is small, but relaxing and the entire property is laid out with various foliage and even some fruit trees that produce. There are always fresh apples available at the front desk. The staff was super friendly and helpful. The only complaint I have is with the flooded sidewalks in low lying areas of the property when it rains heavily. The toiletries are all eco friendly. The beds are super comfy with plush pillows and comforters. All this for around $100/night. read more

Not only is the physical plant run down and in need of repair -i.e. cracked bathroom tiles, chipping paint, torn carpet, lumpy mattresses- the towels, pillows, and sheets are stained, smelly and mismatched, AND the front desk staff doesn't care how displeased you are with their hotel. We stayed here for a long weekend. It was NOT what we expected at all and definitely not worth the money. From the rickety furniture that looked like it came from my apartment in the early 80's to the music from Sugars strip club next door, this was definitely a disappointment. While the suite was large, it was not well kept. Evidently replace is not one of the "R's" practiced by this establishment. Breakfast was probably the best thing about the entire stay. Paint was peeling in the window sills. The televisions were at least 10 years old. The "fully" stocked kitchen did not even have dinner plates or a paring knife. If we would have been able to get our 4 nights worth of money back, we would have changed hotels immediately. read more

We spent five days in Austin while we looked for a permanent place to live and Habitat Suites suited us beautifully. The rooms were clean and well-appointed, our second-floor unit was really quiet and having a suite where we could relax and eat the occasional meal was a huge plus. The free breakfast buffet was outstanding: locally sourced eggs, pancakes, vegetarian choices, a great selection of fresh fruit, cereal, organic yogurt, good coffee (which, if you've spent any time in motels/hotels, is by no means a given) and super-nice folks who continually restocked the buffet when quantities were running low. In fact, everyone on staff was uniformly friendly and helpful. (A shout-out to the front-desk staff who cheerfully replaced the ink cartridges and paper when we needed documents printed out. Thanks, guys!) At around $80/night, we expected very little but were very surprised and pleased by how much we received for the money. We wouldn't hesitate to stay there again. read more

I just stayed here the past week and have to say my stay was horrible. I booked through Expedia and think since I got a better rate there and not directly through the hotel I feel I was put in a worse off room. The first thing I noticed was the coach that seen better days. It looked to be about 25 years old. There were spider webs in the corners of the bathroom that also had cracked floors. They did not vacuum not once while we stayed there for 5 days. The stove top was coming off and the front burner barely worked. The pots had bits of the black pieces come off while cooking. They give you one knife to share among all people. Also, they advertise the hotel as a quiet place to stay with quiet time after 9 pm. Well there is a bar/go go bar next door that blast music so while you have to stay quiet all your here is noise from outside. Not very right if you ask me. And to top that off at midnight each night our TV Signal was turned off so you could not even watch TV to drown out the music from the bar next door. The staff was very friendly but when asked about the area they did not really have answers to direct me to places to go. Was hoping for a nice quiet stay but instead wished I never booked here.
