I've been looking for a local Seattle salon for the past few years and have not been able to find a stylist that I'm in love with. After an awful haircut at the Fremont salon I was very skeptical. Being the worst cut I've ever received it took some convincing before I wanted to try them again. They set me up with a stylist named Shyra Roe for an updo and she was amazing. I've now tried other services and I'm so glad that I gave the salon another chance. I love Habitude's exempleory level of service and recommendstions when asking for a particular service. Im also very impressed with their level of knoweledge on their Products. Everyone that has been reccomended to me at the Ballard salon has been excellent. You can see my reviews below. I went to the Habitude for a facial a few weeks ago and was very impressed with the service. I've had several facials and I feel that Habitude is right up their with my top experience. They offer you fabulous Aveda tea and walk you into the locker room to get your robe and flip flops. You can wait in a relaxing waiting room or sit in the sauna. I have to give kudos to my esthetician Dondie. She was absolutely amazing. She gave me a great facial and recommended products for my skin. The facial was very relaxing and detoxifying which is just what my skin needed. I definitely plan on coming back soon! I also want to say that Shyra Roe in the Habitude salon is fabulous! She has done my updos on several occasions and she's hands down the best. She's creative and has always impressed me with her level of expertise. I would highly recommend her to anyone who's getting married or needs their hair done for a special occasion. I also went for an eyebrow wax and brow tint. I had Amanda Farley who was amazing. I went to Pedro at the Ballard location Habitude and omg, I cannot express how happy I am with my hair! he spent a good 4 hrs. doing a balayage with beautiful colors on my dark brown/pretty much black hair and it looks AMAZING! After my previous stylist transferred out of state, I went on the hunt for someone to replace her. It took me more than a year, but I found her at Habitude. Laura Lee is fresh, creative, and a hell of a lot of fun. I arrived for a cut and color appointment without any real idea of what I wanted to have done, and this is where LL shines. She gave me a range of highlights and an awesome cut that continues to garner attention from random strangers. To top it off, we talked and giggled and the two hours passed in a flash. My best friend treated her bridal party to mani-pedis at Habitude Friday (the day before her wedding). The salon is beautiful, and all the ladies working there were friendly--the atmosphere was really nice. However, that's basically what you're paying for. They don't have that great of a color selection, and the tech I had didn't paint the polish all the way down to my cuticles. I got the "Caribbean Therapy" treatment, but there wasn't anything special about it. She hardly even massaged my feet (although she did do a nice calf massage). Another of the girls had a huge chip in her nail that evening for the rehearsal dinner! What's worst though, is that the bride got shellac (which they complained about even though she'd said that when she'd made the appointments), and there was a huge chunk missing from her nail the next morning too! That stuff is supposed to last 2 weeks, and hers didn't last a day! We've all said she should call to get her money back. Also they had a huge problem trying to take our Groupon, even though she'd told them over the phone she was using one! Moral of the story is, don't bother going here. Get some nice lotion from the Aveda store if that's the product you want, but get your nails done someplace cheap because you'll probably get a better manicure. read more

I hesitate to recommend a hairdresser because I don't like to wait for appointments, but I'm making an exception this time because William is too talented not to share. Book with him now before his price-point goes up! He's a true hidden gem and you will be very happy to find him. I was so pleased I booked appointments for my mother and sister to see him the very next week! William understands hair. I have a HUGE amount of wavy, dark-blonde/light-brown hair, and I left with a hair cut that complemented my face shape and brought out my best features. It was also so much lighter and more manageable. The color was also perfectly done and I am very picky about natural blonde highlights. If you want to come out of the hairdresser looking miles better than the moment you entered, go see William! read more

Habitude did a great job helping plan my day of hair and makeup for myself and bridal party. They were very accommodating over the phone, email, and in person. Makeup: After going for my trial hair and makeup, I got an email about 3 weeks before the wedding saying that makeup artist is no longer with the company. I was bummed because I loved the way she did my makeup and also really enjoyed her company. They offered me a free trial with a different makeup artist and guaranteed I would be happy with the service I got. I cannot remember the makeup artists name but she did a great job during the trial, took the couple suggestions I had, and made it even better the day of. The only thing that sort of rubbed me the wrong way was she seemed pretty paranoid and kept looking over her shoulder and at the other guests and employees. Her work station was a bit messy and she ended up knocking over a few things. All that aside, my makeup turned out fantastic and lasted the whole night. Hair: The first hair trial I had went well, I enjoyed John's company and his work. But after I got home my hair started to come undone within an hour. I called the salon and he called me back as soon as he was done with his appointments and was so friendly on the phone and asked the right questions, like was it just strands coming out or was it all slipping down, etc. He reassured me that would not happen the day of because he would put much more structure to it, that's just hard during a trial if someone says they don't like it at the end it's harder to rework it into a new style at that time. I was second guessing the style because it just didn't seem like me, and I had originally been hoping for something half-up with curls. I also received a complimentary style before my second makeup trial - which was fantastic because it helped me realize I had a different vision for my hair than what was originally done in my hair trial. I talked to John about what I was thinking and he loved the idea and had me come back in for a quick complimentary second consultation. The day of my hair looked AWESOME and it held all day and night, I did not want to take it out the next day! Oh - they also gave me a complimentary hand massage during my second hair trial. I felt so pampered and relaxed! Overall - GREAT experience with Habitude, a little pricey, but worth the customer service and outcome. read more

Love this place! I went there for the first time to get a haircut since it is in my neighborhood in Ballard. The scalp massage and shampoo is worth the price alone. Tori was amazing, I have an undercut under long hair and also dry scalp. She took a great amount of care and time getting my undercut just right instead of the usual "lets just buzz it down" I get at most places. As well as treating my scalp with wonderful Aveda scalp treatment products. They offer you tea upon arriving and I enjoyed this on a cold day. Thank you Tori! I will be back for sure. read more

I have been having my hair cut for several years at both Habitude locations and have worked with several stylists there. Recently, I started working with Brooke M. and can not rave enough about her. She is not only totally sweet, kind and engaging, but she is an excellent stylist. She works with my color and my cut and does an amazing job every time. I have a huge cow lick in the back of my hair and she managed to give me a great cut that makes it go away! Really, she is a genius! She gives me the best cuts I've had since I moved away from NYC several years ago. She's up on current trends, has great product knowledge and really gets to know her clients so she can give you a look that truly suits you. So glad I found her! read more

I was excited to find a Aveda salon in Ballard since my past stylist used aveda products and colors and each time I went to her my hair looked great, but that was not the case with my visit to Habitude. When I got to the salon I did have a friendly welcome and was offered water or coffee. The atmosphere itself was nice and everyone seemed nice and welcoming, but when it came to what count (my hair) it fell short. Before I start on my experience I will give a positive, the stylist did cut my hair exactly what I wanted, a trim. Now on to the rest of my experience. I was prepared for my appointment, I had pictures of how my hair has been (for years) and the formula that my past stylist used. I did not give the stylist a guessing game, I gave her everything that she needed to dye my hair correctly, but some how I ended up with something completely different. The stylist herself was nice but I will never go back and I don't recommend this salon to anyone that likes their hair (or is just picky on their hair). I have had my hair dyed for years, the same color (with a little variation). I have dyed it so much people think the color is my natural hair color and I like knowing it looks natural. What I received from Habitude was not natural. I am picky when it comes to my hair but the difference in what I always get (and the formula I gave them) and what they gave me was on different sides of the spectrum. The stylist even asked the owner questions before proceeding and the owner agreed to what she was doing with my hair. I can forgive a salon that admits they didn't follow a formula but what I got was the salon saying they followed it and then when I called after I got home and tried to speak to the owner I was told that there were no personal direct calls. I explained to the women who I spoke to that I was not satisfied with my hair color and I wanted a correction. She proceeded to tell me that I would have to wait two days before they could get me in and that I would be charged. I already spent a lot of money at the salon for something I didn't like and now they wanted me to pay for the correction. As you probably guessed I did not go back for the correction and made up my mind to write a review because I want to warn other people. I did find another salon the very next day who corrected the color but now I have to start over on all the dimension I did have in my hair from years of having a good stylist who knew what she was doing. I typically have a dirty blonde hair color but a month ago for a costume party dyed my hair a non perm red color. It has washed out to the point that it is just a light red so I wanted to go and lighten it up a bit and begin the process of going back to blonde. I booked a last minute appointment online the day before with William, the only person available today. I had been to Habitude in Ballard before and had a great stylist but booking last minute I just needed someone and knew the same stylist wouldn't be available. I was immediately put off with him. He sat me down and when I told him what I was looking for he started talking to me in a demeaning way, and looked at my hair and said he wouldn't touch it and put himself at risk because there was nothing he could do except to touch up the red. I have gone from blonde to strawberry red, cherry red, and chocolate brown before and each time after it fades have gotten it lightened up without attitude from a stylist. He threw his hands in the air and as a willing paying customer who was about to drop a fortune on her hair I had to say there was no reason for me being there if I had someone who wasn't even willing to do anything or come up with possible solutions to what I wanted except to dye it darker red which obviously isn't what I wanted. Even after one positive experience, I will never be going back to this salon because of William. He was extremely unprofessional and demeaning. I walked out of the salon in tears for the first time in my life. Because of this experience I give this salon no stars but Yelp made me at least put 1 star in order to post this review. read more

I had been a semi-regular at Habitude, either going to the salon or treating myself at the spa, for many years. There are two reasons I've decided to give Habitude a 1 star review. The first is last year I came in for my birthday. I treated myself to a massage and a pedicure. The massage was fine, however the pedicure, for what the service provided and what Habitude charges, was terrible. In addition to the pedicure being terrible, the person who provided it was just awful. She had a mean and nasty attitude from the moment she collected me from the waiting area. She was impatient and rude. She made nasty comments about the color I picked. She noticed a rainbow tattoo on my arm and asked if I'm gay, to which I replied that I am. She started talking about her sister who is gay and that she doesn't want her sister turning her daughter gay (are you kidding me??). She then started complaining about working at Habitude and how she couldn't wait to finish her mortician's license and she rushed me out the door when we were finished. Whatever relaxation I had hoped for (after paying $200) was not to be had. Unbelievable you would have such a nasty, negative person in your employ. Another reason I will never, ever, use or recommend Habitude to anyone is because of Habitude's decision to rally against the homeless in Ballard. Homelessness is a sad reality of our city. The tent city is well managed (and has onsite security) has little to no problems and is a safe place, not only for the people who live in the neighborhood in which it resides, but for the people using it (if you even care about it). The comments I have read from your patrons on your Facebook are so disappointing; bougie, privileged people who have no compassion for the people struggling in this city who don't want their expensive spa day ruined by having to look at the harsh realities of homelessness, and their hatred is only fueled by your encouragement. You know what Habitude? Why don't YOU move? Move to a place where there is no homelessness, no tent cities, no poverty, and you and your privileged customers can live in your happy Aveda bubble. Very disappointing experience today. My stylist was nice enough and she actually did a pretty decent job with my cut but every other aspect of my appointment was unacceptable. To start - I made certain to confirm pricing before I finished booking, I also specified that my hair is very long and already color treated. 1.) My stylist tried, repeatedly, to convince me to get highlights even though I was firm in saying I was not interested. 2.) When we did finally agree upon the color and treatment, she disappeared. 20 minutes later...not even kidding! She left me in the chair without a.) offering me a magazine or anything to drink and b.) failed to mention where she was going. I can assume she was mixing my hair color but for 20 minutes? Give me a break! 3.) When she did eventually return and I commented on her long absence, she explained that she was trying to figure out what to do with her other appointment as we did not have enough time to do what I wanted without it overlapping - as if that was, in any way, my fault or problem! 4.) At this point I'm already pretty perturbed and to top it all off she casually asks me if anyone explained the pricing structure to me. ??? I tell her the price I was quoted and her response is that I am wrong. The base price actually refers to just my roots and apparently it will cost extra for long hair and an additional $25.00 for each bowl of color she's made. There was no discussion of this beforehand so I'm left feeling like a jerk when I explain that I don't want to pay $75.00 more. I asked for an all over color when I made the appointment but for some reason she felt the need to mix three additional bowls of color. 5.) I apologize for wasting the product but calmly tell her I don't want to pay that price, and she tells me that's "fine" but says if I don't want to spend over $200 then she can't do my hair. Keep in mind I've been at the salon for over an hour already and NOTHING has been done. I tell her just to cut it but in hindsight I should have just walked out. Obviously it was pretty awkward after that. Her apology was half-assed and she didn't even offer a cheaper solution. What a waste of my time and truly lacking in customer service. If you choose to go here be VERY sure you get the pricing up front and hope that the person booking your appointment understand basic math so that they allocate the stylists' time appropriately. Came here with a gift certificate of $150 that only gave me an hr of a deep tissue massage. I was looking for a relaxing experience while also targeting some leg muscle pain that has prevented me from running/hiking for the past month. First, lay out at least 30-40 minutes just to find parking and walk to the spa because it is very hard to find spots that are not limited to 1 or 2 hours (I didn't want to worry about parking while at the spa). Because of this, I was 5 minutes late and upon arriving I apologized and explained the parking situation. The front counter told me that these 5 minutes could now be deducted from my massage time since there was someone scheduled right after me. That was irritating to hear especially for the cost of the massage, so I rushed to changed & meet my masseuse ASAP. The first 10-15 minutes of the massage I was still calming down from all the previous rushing and somewhat stressed that my massage time was being reduced. However, I was able to finally enjoy it and loved the way Lauren's hands worked. They were very swift and gentle. The amenities of the spa are great: heated massage table, sauna, lounge area, snacks/magazines, and complimentary shower. Great place to escape from reality but I'm not so sure if I would come back especially with the initial customer service I was met with and the fact that my muscle tightness/pain did not get resolved. read more

Ok. So I am one of the many who bought the groupon deal. However I did the entire day choice. This is going to be a lengthy review, however it will be very informative and coming from a spa frequenter, I think this info will be very useful. Do not pay full price! The services/amenities you get are not worth the charges. However I would pay those same prices somewhere else that offered and promised much more. So make sure to search for those deals. As far as customer service...that is the only reason I gave this place any stars. I do not recommend you make your appt any time btwn the hours of 230-330. There is no peace and quiet. I got so frustrated that I actually went and sat in the locker room. This is their shift change, which also turns into loud chatting, constant annoying heel clicking and over all annoying. I also recommend if you do more than 2 services, pack a lunch. They do not offer food, nor do they offer to have any delivered. As a pregnant woman I think my stomach was starting to eat itself. They offer almonds, walnuts and dried cranberries. Let me tell you, they are not filling nor do they even offer to hold off your hunger until later. So let me decipher the mothers day package for you. * one hour massage- I found this actually to be very relaxing. Therapist was good. Only con- that music was intense. Sometimes I thought I was about to be sacrificed. *salt glow-done by the same therapist. My massage went directly into this body scrub. I have to say this was definitely the most unique body scrub. And not in a good way. There was no water involved. I think she mixed a salt scrub with a lotion or oil and put it on my skin, put it on and left it. Did you seriously just leave me to sit in this? How uncomfortable can we get? They do not take the salt scrub off. This entire odd moment worked into.. *scalp treatment-the oil that they pour onto your head is HOT. I have to say it did feel good once my head stopped burning in pain. But overall this process felt ok...quick...but ok. Probably didn't help I felt like I was sitting in a sand box from my salt glow. But interesting enough these 3 things only took an hour and 30 min. Do I think I got screwed out of time...yep! Massage, salt glow and scalp treatment=1 1/2 hours? That doesn't even seem worth it. Trust me I watch the clock like a hawk. *facial-this felt good. However this is the first facial I have ever received laying completely flat on a massage table. But besides intense burning on my face and coming out with my face lobster red, oh and being totally uncomfortable. It was ok. She did try a little retail up sell. Yea lady you see my face?? Not gonna happen. *pedi/mani- girl that did it, super nice. But seriously, go to the place down the street from where you live. Much better deal and you'll get the exact same thing. *make up application- wouldn't pay for it normally but a fun different experience. *shampoo, dry, style- this is a joke. Aveda salon, thanks for the bumble and bumble in my hair. But product is product, but seriously there is no "style" involved here. My head wasn't even fully dry and style? Well if you consider half drying my hair with a brush, then I got a style. But seriously this service was a joke. Probably the one that really wasnt worth it. Someone mentioned fruit smoothies being complimentary....mine $7. Also don't go thinking that sauna is an amenity, besides small and coed, that comes at a cost of $18. Can you imagine?? Thankfully the spa I do like doesn't charge me for steam room, sauna, plush robe, sandals and everything else you think that would come with the spa, and it even at the same full price. So here's the bottom line: Pros-customer service, product selection, locker room was decent, and actually the atmosphere itself was very inviting and comfortable. Only during quiet times. Cons-everything else. Seriously this place has potential, and maybe to the spa beginner this is heaven, but after moving here to Seattle I went to dozens of spas all over the state, trying to find "my place" I travel all over the country and have visited spas every time. I don't expect much, for example truce is a complete joke on amenities, but they give great facials and massages. Amenities to me are a big factor but never the determining factor. So far in the downtown area, I have to say I am a repeat customer to the Four Seasons spa, small but perfect in every aspect, and Elaia spa at the Hyatt. Much more affordable then four seasons but never once has it been busy or have I had any complaints. All the amenities you could want, plus a pool and hot tub attached and great services. Pricey but worth it at both places. I've been to many others, but these were by far in downtown the only ones worth mentioning. I personally probably won't return to Habitude, but if you arent looking for too much this is your place, just don't make a rookie mistake and pay full price. Wait until a deal! read more

I'm not one to write a negative review online, but in this case they not only ignored my email, but they also did not call me back! AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS, FRIENDS. Highway robbery, bitchy, upselling workers, and terrible results! The marketing on their website is in total contrast to the absolutely overpriced and questionable results from their salon and spa services. I live nearby and thought the outside looked nice, and I liked their website. But be warned, this place is a total joke -- just because you are paying more for the services here, don't expect to get a better result! I received a haircut by Michelle, who supposedly has nine years of experience. She was downright insulting, rude, and judgmental not through just one, but numerous unsolicited comments and opinions on "prioritizing" hair, and self care. I guess you're not worth her time if you don't get a trim every 6-8 weeks. Anyone who has kids knows hair and self care can often come last for obvious reasons. I explained when she sat me down that I am a busy stay at home mom with no time to take care of my hair beyond the basics, and that I hadn't had a trim in a good 4 or 5 months. During the session, she seemed to be downright disgusted by my hair's length, fullness/quantity, commented on my "funny" hair on the side of my face (sideburns), and among other things, kept pushing a short haircut. Everything about her manner beyond the initial greeting was distasteful and I left the salon feeling a lot worse than when I came in. The kicker was when she started blowdrying my hair -- I had to interrupt her to tell her what style I would like (since she hadn't asked, and I wanted to make sure it was styled straight), and she snapped at me very aggressively. Then I had an eyebrow wax ($28). I have totally blonde eyebrows and strawberry blonde hair -- the aesthetician suggested a brown tint ($20). I said ok. Well, I was given TWO BLACK CATERPILLARS on my face, and told that the color would fade. It didn't. For weeks I was walking around with black eyebrows on very fair skin until I bought one of those eyebrow shapers and basically went to the extreme measure of chopping them off. Since they are naturally blonde, and I was used to having very faint eyebrows, waiting a few weeks for my eyebrows to grow back in was worth it just to get my face back! I hope they are enjoying their new neighbors across the street! read more

First off - the services were great, that's why they get 2 stars. But if you're thinking about spending money here, you need to how little they "value" their customers. As long as you're paying & things are going well, probably a fine place. But if something goes wrong don't expect them to lift a finger to keep you a happy customer I purchased a Living Social which had a start by & use by date. When the end of my use window was nearing, after my treatment I asked the cashier when my package expired. She looked up my account, went and asked someone for help, came back & told me, "oh you don't need to worry about that. You can use them whenever." I thought - "wow, that's great customer service. I knew there was a reason I love this place." I made two massage appointments right then. Fast forward 6 weeks to the 2nd of my two appointments & I'm trying to leave a tip for the masseuse & the cashier informed me I owed $128 for today's service. Wait a moment - this was supposed to be the 4th of 6 services I've pre-paid through Living Social. The cashier said all she could do was talk to her director & have him call me. Which he did the following day. Based on my previous experience, I thought he would back up his staff. Or at least try to reach a compromise solution. Turns out even though his staff had actively discouraged me from scheduling appointments before the expiration date, it was still my loss. When I asked what he might be willing to do to keep me as a customer, he actually said, "I'm willing to give you an apology." When your employees are giving out incorrect information I expect a little more than "I'm sorry you didn't keep better track of your purchase." read more

Beware that they charge an extra 6% when you check out. The call it a "service TAX" when it is actually a FEE that they tack on to your bill. When I asked about it the woman said that it was indeed a tax and that "all the other salons charge the tax too by having raised their prices", which made no sense to me. After asking follow up questions about whether it was a city or state tax, she admitted it was Habitude's own fee that they add. Shady. Very shady. I will never go back. read more

If you want to get robbed, this is the place for you. I got a Groupon and checked the prices online for $50 services. Simple color was one of them and I mentioned this when I made my appointment. The colorist seemed well trained and said I only needed a root touch up. At this point I'm thinking this will cost less than my Groupon's worth (root touch up vs all over color) so when she offered a conditioning treatment for $25 I went for it. She did a fine job matching my dark brown color and meticulously applied it to my roots. But she left me to process for almost an HOUR! Way too long. I also was left with stains all over my face :( But the worst part is I was charged $90 for the root touch up alone, plus $25 for the treatment, and because I'm a decent human being I still tipped over 20%. While I can afford it, I'm not into wasting my money so I'll never be back. Habitude, you could've made a returning customer but instead chose to rob me. I've now heard other friends complain about the same issue of over charging; too bad I didn't know before hand. Consider yourself warned! read more

I'm wavering between two and three stars for Habitude...and haven't gone back since my last experience so it probably means I should go a little lower. I should preface this by saying that I've had some very good cuts and color at Habitude. And then I've had some not so good cuts and color and spa experiences. I had a 50% off a "Under the Northern Rainforest" package two or three years ago and was disappointed with the experience. I had a single massage here previously and was quite happy. However, this package deal was not great. The experiences were rushed, there was pressure in the facial to sell product (as there always is) and part of the package deal (the spa smoothie) was never delivered or asked about..ditto with the make-up touch up. I've been to several stylists in the salon. The lastest one I was with did ok, but I had a very hard time getting what I had desired in terms of cut - I even had several pictures, etc. Additionally, my last color experience was lacking - I had the same color applied at this salon and other salons several times and hadn't had issues. But, the stylist chose to use a different method that produced about a one - two inch band at my scalp (where the untreated hair was) where the color didn't "take". When I noticed this on the drive home, I called back into the salon and they immediately said "well, your hair might not take color well" and offered to have me come back 1.5 hours later. I was already about 20 minutes into a 2 hour drive home, so I wasn't inclined to extend this trip by another few hours. They also offered to have me come back in another weekend so they could fix it, which I was initially inclined to do, but cancelled later because, again - I would be spending about another 4-5 hours to fix something that should have been done correctly to start. Sigh. So, I won't be back to habitude and am currently in want of a good stylist and colorist closer to me. read more

i got my wfe the $130 hot stone massage for her 40 birthday. With tip it comes to $150. It wasn't ten minutes after she got the gift certificate she was on the phone to make the appointment. Being the day after thanksgiving they had an opening that afternoon. My wife leaves with plenty of time to spare to get her massage. She was scheduled for 4:30 and at 4:55 Habitude calls home to ask where she is. I gave them her cell phone and try to call her myself. My kids are freaking out becuase there is no way she would miss the massage. They are waiting for the cops to call and say there is an accident. Turns out that they checked her in and left her sitting in the waiting area for 45 minutes. Of course she didn't have her cell because she was stripped down. Nobody apologized for the long wait and nobody called home to tell us that they found her. For $150, especially during an economic slow down, the service should have been much, much better than this. There are better places - keep looking! read more

This review is for the spa area. The quality of the massage service with Savannah is truly unparallelled. She is the one that keeps me coming back, otherwise I'd never return. Habitude at the Lockss, in a word, dirty. Dust is everywhere, in between the wall and bathroom door there is an inch high ball of hair, and this is upstairs where they don't even cut hair. There are greasy finger prints on the doors of the bathroom stalls, and the thongs they gave me the other day were 'gooey' feeling (someone from a pedicure likely wore them before). I come every week for help with my back, and this past week I made a streak in the dust, this week it was still there. I have complained/mentioned to front desk four weeks in a row, this last time the girl seemed peeved when I asked if I could provide feedack she told me to go online-she didn't have a moment to listen....doing as told. I'd really like them to clean this place up because I have to continue seeing Savannah for my back, she's the only one who can give a true deep tissue massage. read more

If I was an extremely wealthy woman I would like to think I would that I would still pretty much be the same. One exception - I know I would splurge on massages and body treatments like those at Habitude ALL THE TIME. Since non-profit life is not leading me to this wealth anytime soon, I happy to say that I have wonderful friends who treat me to it instead. Today is my birthday. So with gift certificate in hand I headed to Ballard for a Herbal Body Masque. When you rarely do these kind of things you have to pick the most interesting one, right? Well I made the right choice. Jenny was great and made me feel so relaxed and pampered! Also, rain forest shower is SOOO nice. What I wouldn't give to have one of those in my house. All of the staff seemed so friendly and attentive. There was no rush to get in and out like other places I have been to. Bonus points for the free smoothie and makeup application that didn't make me look like a drag queen. I now have the smoothest skin in Seattle! read more

Your facility is very nice and comfortable. Since I paid over half of what you quoted me for an hour and a half Rock massage i will be very honest. My svc provider was very nice and her technique and skill was great. I enjoyed the massage for the most part. My therapist Emily does not speak clearly so it made it a little uncomfortable . I don't know what was going on and I want to be sensitvie but she mumbled so quietly and so fast I had to kind of guess what she was saying. The lady at the front desk when I arrived was very pleasant. But the young kid when i was leaving and checking out acted a little condescending . he asked how my service was but didn't seem interested in my response. All i said at that time was it was nice but that it sounded like a company party was going on behind the massage room . Also, my therapist tho as I said did a WONDERFUL massage w and without the rocks-- she made a lot of noice and banging around with the towel cabby and other stuff. it was unsettling for 220 bucks plus 40 tip! read more

I went to get a facial here and quite honestly, I was pretty underwhelmed by the whole experience. On the plus side, the interior is gorgeous, and has obviously been designed with a lot of care and creativity. The woman who did my facial was very conscientious and sweet, and was passionate about the Aveda products that the salon uses. On the downside, a beautiful interior means nothing when the place has the bustling, chaotic feel of Grand Central Station. Perhaps it was just the time of day that I went there, but it wasn't relaxing at all. In addition, I really felt like I'd come on a day when the staff just wasn't clicking. The woman who checked me in asked if I wanted a complimentary make-up 'touch up' on my way out. I clearly said yes, but she forgot to schedule it with the make-up artist. When I went for what I thought was the scheduled make-up touch up, I was made to feel as if the scheduling snafu was my fault. My facial took forever- which wasn't necessarily a bad thing. However, I noticed that my skin didn't look or feel very good after the process. That may have just been the product line however. The pretty, serene waiting area I was seated at was right in front of a supply station where employees gathered to gossip and complain about work stuff. All in all, there are plenty of smaller, lower profile spas in town where one can get a great facial. Skip this place. read more

NO DISCLOSURE THE SAUNA IS COED!! I have visited MANY spas and NEVER have I encountered a spa that is coed WITHOUT disclosing this fact to their customers. Today, I FIRST learned it was a coed sauna (other spas normally are segregated) in the 7 years I've been going to Habitude for services. I have shared the sauna with other women and we had all shed our robes! Doesn't HABITUDE's management think their customers DESERVE to know the sauna is coed? This is yet another sign of Habitude's quality of service deteriorating. My facial today was almost the worst one I've ever received after frequenting Aveda salons for more than 25 years in 3 states. What I had always liked best about Aveda salons is the consistency of Aveda's highly trained aestheticians and hair stylists. The aestheticians especially, have always followed protocol. NOT TODAY! The service was mediocre and her skill level was minimal. Clearly, not rising to Aveda's historical level of quality facials. For the first time, I couldn't wait for my facial to be over! This is NOT the experience I want. Reading some of the more recent reviews it is clear I am not the only long time customer dissatisfied. There isn't a stylist there that was there 7 years ago! The reception desk has a high turnover and the last time I was there I was also treated rudely. I will not be returning for their hair or skin services. read more

I went in for an express facial by Nikole and I LOVED her. Habitude was my first facial and it was an amazing experience. Nikole was very informative and personable. She made the experience for me 10x better. The facial was relaxing and very comfortable under the heated blanket. I left the salon with my skin glowing for days. read more

Ok, I'll admit, I am kind of lazy. I don't like driving my car everywhere to get stuff done. When I have the option to walk two blocks, I will do it. Thats why I gave this place 4 tries. First was ok, but that girl quit. Second was good, but that girl quit. Third was HORRIBLE, stylist by the name of Joe ravaged my hair cutting crazy layers in, needless to say I got the haircut for free. Fourth try, I had an appt with one of the more experienced people, but guess what? She had quit and they tried to stick me with Joe again. No call, didn't look me up in their fancy computer that you have to put all your info into to see that maybe Joe wasn't a good idea. I just showed up and were like SURPRISE! I said see ya, guess I will drive somewhere. In addition, not crazy about Aveda, I always look kind of greasy after a haircut with Aveda products and they're stinky. Ok haircuts, but nothing to write home about. I tried four different stylists and nada. Each wanted to cut my hair the same way and proceeded to blow it out and straiten my naturally curly locks. One even commented that at least I would have pretty hair for as long as the blow out lasted. Guess curly isn't in anymore. Also a reputation for poor labor relations. Lots of stylists leaving in a huff. Skip it. Go to Mode instead. read more

Besides the prices being extremely high- the locker room is small with no amenities, no steam room, old robes and towels, in session massages are not quiet and the staff is pretty uninterested in making it a "spa like experience". The place was cool but there are other spas around town that are worth checking out. read more

I visited the Habitude Salon yesterday for the first time. I expected so much more as I have heard nothing but wonderful things (at least about the massages) I went to get my hair cut by Tara at Habitude. She was very unfriendly and seemed unhappy no matter how many jokes I tried to crack. I would not go back to this salon. I personally prefer a less confusing environment - you never know where you are going if you have never been there. The welcoming staff were super nice but the stylist was not, didn't cut my hair the way I wanted and I still gave her a $10 tip for a $35 dollar hair cut (which is the cheapest) If you do decide to go here - see someone else and good luck!! read more

The one star is for the stylist, who was super nice. Everything else about my latest (and last) experience at Habitude was horrible. I went in for a haircut and ombre retouches. My first ombre cost a whopping $200 or so. I knew going in that I should expect paying that much this time around. AFTER putting in my foils, my stylist came up to me and whispers "Oh, by the way, it's going to be $380 this time around... I'm letting you know so you don't have a heart attack at the counter". WHAT?!?!?! I just about died!!! The real reason I will never go back was the manager's reaction. The following day I called and asked to talk to the manager about this incident, expecting to work something out with him (since I was a long-time customer). He not only didn't want to hear it but was unhelpful and unpleasant. I asked him if he's willing to lose a loyal customer over this and he basically said "yes". I'm STILL blown away by the ridiculous price and the manager's reaction. NEVER going back! I now go to Seven Seattle and love it there! read more

I went to the Ballard location for the second time today. I made an appointment and checked in 10 minutes prior. I sat an waited for 20 minutes after my appointment time and was never acknowledged. I understand that sometimes appointments run over, but it was completely empty at the salon. When someone is planning on spending a couple hundred dollars on their hair, the least you can do is acknowledge them and let them know you are running a little late. I decided to leave and let the front desk girl know the reason, she didn't seem to care. Needless to say I will not be returning. read more

Habitude was my go-to salon for 15 years. Recent cut and color appointments were disappointing at best, culminating in my decision to find another salon. I strongly urge Habitude to reconsider their approach to customer service. Recently I received a disastrous haircut from a senior Habitude stylist and returned a few days later to get it fixed. Rather than accept responsibility and try to mitigate a bad cut, the stylist refused to work with me and brought in the manager to ask me to reschedule with someone else at another date/time. As a super busy full time solo working mother, it is nearly impossible to carve out personal time for hair cuts. The entire experience, including the manager's refusal to find someone else to fix things during the timeslot allotted to me, was disappointing. I will not be returning to Habitude. read more

When I go to a spa, I'm not only looking for the spa services to help me relax, but I'm also looking for a relaxing and calming environment. I just don't think Habitude has that in their spa upstairs. The first 'unrelaxing' experience was parking. There simply isn't any parking in the lot unless your appointment starts around 9am. If you want to find parking, you'll need to cross your fingers and hope there is street parking and that you enjoy parallel parking or you'll need to park across Market in the residential area. The next unrelaxing thing was their spa waiting room. It's right next to the area where all the employees check in. So, as you're sitting in your robe attempting to relax, you can hear talking and every now and then you can hear a SSHHH. In the waiting room, you're in the middle of the path where everyone comes to work. Now, how relaxing is that? Then, there is only one steam room (or sauna), which is co-ed. Please. How relaxing is that? If you're truly there to unwind and let go, the last thing you want is to be in a sauna with just a towel covering your naked body with the chance of some strange guy walking in. I must admit though, the services (massage and facial) there were great and yes, they were relaxing. If Habitude would have thought just a little more when designing their upstairs layout, the place would have been great. Bigger isn't necessarily better. read more
