The food took thirty minutes to come out after we placed our order AND it came out wrong, but we decided to just eat it rather than have to deal with a longer wait and have it corrected. The salsa was the most unfavorable salsa I've had. They need to revamp that recipe. The waiter charged us for cheese dip, so make sure to check your receipts at this restaurant. When I told him we didn't order cheese dip, he actually questioned me, telling me he brought it to the table. The hostess was incredibly rude when we arrived. We popped in here for lunch while in Silverthorne. The service was great and the food was quite tasty. I had the beef tamales without sauce because their sauce is not gluten-free and the Azteca soup the soup was absolutely outstanding. My friends had chicken fajitas as well as the soup and mix their leftover fajitas into the soup, which made it even more rich and delicious, the margaritas were tasty a little bit on the sweet side but still very good. Homemade salsa is excellent and it's got a nice ambiance for a smaller space. I would definitely get the bowl versus the cup of soup next time because it was so delicious. read more

You know how when food is expensive, you expect it to taste... like something? Maybe you'd expect it to taste good, even. Especially when it's Mexican food that's $17 for two enchiladas. Well, Hacienda Real is here to shatter those expectations. They put what seemed to be mole on everything. I'm not entirely convinced it was mole though, it was brown, but tasted like nothing. If anything, it left an artificial chemical taste behind, like maybe they've just been using the same bag of "mole" from Sysco foods for the past week and stretching it out with water and corn starch and red food coloring. Both dishes were served with a pile of pickled cabbage and carrots (I think?) swimming in what can only be described as a cleaning detergent base. With pepper. Also on top of that same "mole." Somehow, even the rice and beans were insipid. There was no texture to the refried beans, like they'd been puréed too long, and the rice was astonishingly simultaneously undercooked and overcooked. My friend got a tamale, but it also came drenched in the same uninspired mole. Also, they put carrots in a shredded beef tamale...? Weird and gross. The salsa was exceedingly watery and nearly completely devoid of flavor. Ok, well that's the food, so maybe the service could redeem the place? Well, my friend ordered a #2 combination which is an enchilada and a tamale, but was served an enchilada and what appeared to be their attempt at a crunchy taco. The taco shell was too soggy to pick up by hand, so had to be eaten with a fork and knife. It was left unfinished. We had to ask three different times to get the tamale, and twice for more salsa. Our server never came back around to check on us or ask how the food was. We should've left after trying the chips and salsa, but we were on a bit of a time crunch, so decided to give it a shot. I regret spending my calories on this flavorless mush. Go eat somewhere else. read more

They start you off with chips and salsa and the chips are so warm and freshly made. The salsa has a mild kick but it's so so delicious. We ordered the spinach enchilada + spinach tamale combo. The green sauce on top was outstanding. I was so full but I still kept coming back for more because it was that good. We also got the steak fajita and it came out sizzling and packed with flavor.
