We ate lunch here yesterday. The service was very slowly. From the time we ordered until we received our food was 40 minutes. The food was as usual for Joplin just ok! NO WAY is this a four star restaurant. But it was ok. I had a burger my wife and friend had the wings. The food was was warm my burger sat lone enough too make the bread soggy on the bottom my wife and friend said the wings were fine just warm like it sat under a lamp. I've only had the wings here so my review is based on that. Their wings are so tiny. Ordered the 5 wings with lemon pepper which was ok. Not great. Took one hour for our food to come out. It was pretty busy but I mean, still. Our waitress and the staff were very nice. The place is divided into two areas: a bar area with tables and a regular area with tables and booths. Wingstop still reigns supreme in my opinion when it comes to chicken wings. Don't know if I would come back, but their loaded fries was pretty bomb. Came here with my wife on 12/12/21 on our way home from a Branson trip! Service was nice and quick as we were in and out of there in just 30 minutes! It had been awhile since we had been there but I knew the wings were good, so we got the beer wings and the Spicy/honey wings which were both amazing! I ordered greek dry rub wings and beer sauced wings. The greek wings were so salty, I couldnt eat them and verh dry. Nothing greek about those, they were the worst wings I've ever had. The beer wings were much hotter than I expected and didnt taste like a beer wing. The vegetables that came with them were very cold and HEAVILY seasoned with salt, pepper and garlic salt. If you like wings - or even boneless chunks because they have them here (I don't like wings) - you will LOVE Hackett. First of all, great location in downtown Joplin. Building is old, but inside it is very nice. Almost looks like it could be a fancy restaurant if you didn't already know it was a wing shop. Service is good. Owners are super friendly. You order at the counter, and then they bring your food to you. Keep in mind that everything is made-to-order so food doesn't come out super quick. This is not a fast food restaurant. But that's what makes Hackett BETTER. You can get the normal wings in a variety of wet sauces like honey, beer, or BBQ, or you can opt for a dry rub like jerk, Cajun or Greek. Everything I've ever tried has been good, but my favorite is the beer sauce - husband likes the honey. Now, I don't particularly care for wings simply because of the bone to meat ratio. Plus, I do not like eating with my fingers. Sorry. (Not sorry.) I always get the boneless chunks. You can only get sauce on these (no dry rub), but that's fine by me. And the chunks are GINORMOUS. A 5-piece is plenty to fill you up. Unless you're a 14-year-old boy. They have a nice selection of side items - some standards like fries or onion rings, but also some rarer ones like fried green beans, corn nuggets and sweet potato puffs. Nom nom nom! I heart fried pickles. So now I'm gonna have to go back. (Awww, shucks!) If you aren't a wing fan, Hackett does have a selection of salads, dinners and sandwiches (catfish, burger, pork chop). Since it was my first time the owner brought out a couple wings to try from their most popular sauce and rub selection. Hot and Honey sauce was good although it taste like a sauce I had before and the Season rub was really good. Regardless some of the best wings I've had. For an appetizer we had fried pickles and fried okra- absolutely delish. I saw some of the comments about the service post expansion of the restaurant but me and my date were pleased as she had been here before. When I visit Joplin it is always difficult to fulfill my foodie fantasies (except you Mom... you are the best chef in town!). So I was pleasantly surprised by Hackett's. I remember the old location when I lived in town but never made it there. The new downtown location has a nice vibe. Although I am not keen on the ordering system. It's such a narrow space that people are dodging one another to get to the counter to order food, pick up food, refill drinks. As for the wings... yum!!! These are not the wings that barely have any meat on them. They are juicy. They are drenched in sauce!! We had a honey and a mild. Deeeee-lish! I am excited to make a return trip and have a dry rub on the wings instead. I keep hearing you won't go back to the wet. We shall see!! I passed through Joplin to see family and I needed to find somewhere that would have my football game playing. The service was great, TVs every where, the appetizers were good and and it seems to be the place all the locals point you to. They came out, 10 hot for me, 10 "Greek" for him. He told the food runner, he did NOT order greek ( dry rubbed) wings, so he took them back, This prompted a table visit from the guy that took our order. REALLY? The best things come to those who wait. The wings are out of this world! I've had wings from nearly 100 different places all over the globe, including NYC and New Orleans, and they seriously are the best wings I've ever had. None of my NYC friends believe me when I tell them how good they are ... but I finally got a chance to introduce one of them to these wings, and he said, (I quote) "one of my top 5 dining experiences of all time." KNOWN FOR - Wings POPULAR - Hot & Honey Sauce BUZZ - Greek Rub (1/10) - Cajun Rub - Beer Sauce (2/10) I ALSO TRIED - Smokin' Hot Sauce (2/10) - Fries (3/10) Wowza! I could still feel the burn on my lips and tongue! Prepare to drink lots of water, because it's really.......SALTY! EVERYTHING WAS! Guess I'm the first hater here, huh? I don't know if it was just an off day, because 33 reviews @ 4.5 stars is pretty good! Since all I really had were wings, let me break it down and talk about the wings first. WINGS & BONELESS WINGS (Meat) In a word, dry. The dry rub made the skin all crispy and crunchy, but the inside of the meat was dry. It wasn't like desert dry, but it was dry enough that you noticed it as kinda brittle in your mouth. The ones with sauce masked it a little bit, because it sort of added its own moisture to it, but the sauceless ones were noticeably dry. The size is "bigger than tiny." When I was a kid, I used to get the bag of Tyson's Buffalo Wings that you could microwave. The bone in wings are that same size. The boneless wings are worse, because you actually have more meat, so more of it's dry. Even though it was doused in sauce, it wasn't enough to make up for it. The skin on the boneless was lightly crispy, but not very substantial, nothing even close to Buffalo Wild Wings' super crunchy boneless wings, which are probably my favorite. They're about the same size as Buffalo Wild Wings' boneless. FRIES Before I ate any wings, I decided to start up and clear my pallet with a french fry. They were yellow-gold, which usually means they're not very crispy, but to my surprise, I bit through one, and was very delighted at the strong crisp. But then the tastes registered in my brain, and suddenly, it was nasty, because it was so damn salty! No more of that! GREEK RUB Fries were salty, but now onto the chicken! I take a bite,and the skin is super crispy, practically crunchy, which was great. I'm looking for this garlic flavor that I was told it had, and you know what? It wasn't there, but instead, MORE FREAKING SALT! It was so salty, it made the fries seem normal. There was obviously an overpowering of salt, and I couldn't really enjoy any other seasoning. However, worse than the other two, there was no real special flavor. It just tasted like salty, crispy, dry, chicken. Ok, there was a really really faint flavor of something, but nothing I really wanted to take more salty bites of to find out. BEER SAUCE I got these in boneless. I took a bite, and was instantly saddened at the lack of crunch on the outer breading. It was just barely crispy, almost chewy, but the dry meat had more to do with that. Then my sadness turned to despair! I got hit once again with the salt club, and even harder than the fries or the Greek rub! This freaking made my Diet Pepsi taste like Jolt Cola! I did manage to take a few more bites of this, and was able to glean some flavoring (hence the 2 points). It tasted like what most places call "hot" buffalo sauce, because it actually had a kick. It's supposed to be the mild sauce, but with beer added to it. You can actually taste the hint of a beer aftertaste, which was kind of cool. So it gets 2 points for flavor, that's it. SMOKIN' HOT Please...no more salt! And then, I got punched by a salt mine mine. TKO! About as salty as the Beer Sauce, but again, 2 points for flavor. This is supposed to be their Suicide but with added hickory smoke. It's not spicy, at least not to me. I thought Beer had a better kick. Anyway, the added hickory smoke flavor was welcomed at first, but the more I had it, the less I wanted it. It just gets old after a while. HACKETT BATH SALTS You know what's bad? I had fries after some wings, and because everything gradually got saltier, the fries actually tasted normal! Hackett's Wings are like the Dead Sea of salt water. I couldn't believe it man! The salt was unbearable! What's worse, I was really in the mood for hot wings, so even if these were just mediocre, I probably would've enjoyed them so much I'd have gone 4 stars, but no..it was THAT bad. My husband is originally from Joplin, so every time we go home to visit his family we always get Hackett's. Like ALWAYS! Their wings are AMAZING! Full of flavor and served with carrots and celery. Creamy ranch dressing (homemade) comes with it..yum! The wings are always cooked and seasoned perfectly. I don't know if they have anything else to eat besides wings, but if they do I'm sure it's good! Try the Greek seasoning or the lemon/herb. Let me know what you think! read more
