I love this winery! The wines are all really good and Marissa is such an awesome host. I love red wine but my best friend has a sweet palate and both of us left with wines that we loved. The grounds are beautiful and I appreciate that it isn't as commercialized as other vineyards in the valley. They have chickens on-site and sell fresh eggs too! If you're in the valley I definitely recommend stopping by- they are on Tock so making reservations are easy (you can get there from their webpage too). I 100% recommend trying their Riesling if you like sweet wines and their cab franc if you like red wines. I can't wait to stop by again. read more

Wine tasting is only $45 and on top of that if you buy some bottles of wine over $50 you don't pay for the wine tasting fee. That the best deal ever. BOGO tasting, BUT NOT ON SATURDAY! Great experience here, but when you search "Free Wine Tasting Napa" in Yelp, Hagafen comes up first. We looked at their page and saw the check-in offer, which was a BOGO for tasting. We thought that would be a great deal for the four of us. Then when you walk in and are handed the tasting list, you see at the bottom "...no discounts on Saturday..." Well okay, time to rethink our plan! We felt it our duty to make sure the YELP world knows about this caveat before heading here for 'free tastings'! Tasting is $25 for five tastings. For three of us that really wanted to taste that would have been $75. Instead, we decided to buy a bottle to share, much more economical. Then we asked to try a few of the reds to decide which bottle. The employee was completely cool with that and we finally decided on their Don Ernesto Clarinet. It was a great light red wine to start the day. This little winery is eclectic to say the least. Odd decorations sprinkled throughout the grounds. Random metal work of odd shaped sizes and configurations. I can appreciate the outdoor activities and seating they offer for their guests. Large, outdoor Yahtzee was my favorite. Corn hole, which is pretty normal these days. They had a large cutout to snap pics too. Plenty of different seating for lounging, picnicking, or just hanging out. Don't forget to scope out the chicken coop. It isn't anything amazing, but its in the back and you can peep it. However, close your nose, because it seems to right by a compost pile...well at least that's what we think/smelt it was. The two fellas were laid back and really relaxed. Cracking jokes and cussing, totally cool in our book. They are knowledgeable, but relaxed. They are welcoming and the opposite of stuffy and pretentious, as many deem Napa to be. We had the perfect afternoon at Hagafen Cellars. We were seated at a lovely bench in the very front of the outdoor tasting area. It was a peaceful, intimate setting and presented gorgeous views. It was not crowded at all. We were able to take our time, have all of our questions answered, and our tasting was customized based on our interests. (We only wished we brought some cheese and crackers since they allow you to bring food.) We ended up staying for 3 hours! We had a wonderful experience. read more

Hagafen winery is a small vineyard producing some award winning and exquisite wines. The sampling area is a small bar area and you'll have to crowd around if there are a lot of folks. There is a small section with some outdoor chairs to relax and soak in the sun and atmosphere. The price for the tasting that we tried were 5 samples for $20. I ended up trying all the reds: Pinot, Clarinet, Syrah, Crescendo, Cab Franc and Cab Sauvignon. Also tried a couple of the whites. Their computer system went down so we had to pay cash and they let us try a couple extra wines as a result. Normally there's maybe 1-2 wines I like but thought all the reds were delish. One of their deals is if you buy a bottle of wine they will waive the sampling fee so basically if you buy a bottle, the wine samples are free. Great deal! Of course I bought myself a bottle. I came here with a few friends after making a last minute reservation and it was a great experience! Super casual and laidback. We sat outside under a pergola with eclectic patio furniture that overlooked the beautiful vineyard. Marissa poured most of our wines, and would stop to chat with our group like we were old friends. We did a basic tasting- if I remember correctly it was 2 whites and 3 reds. Before we left we bought a couple bottles that cancelled out the price of our tasting- which was SUPER worth it. An absolute GEM!!! I chose this winery because it came recommended as having a variety of wines to include sweeter wines which my date preferred; but it had so much more to offer. Great location on the Silverado Trail close to the hills with amazing views. The ambiance was inviting and peaceful. The best part was Marissa our wine expert who was absolutely delightful. Trying to visit Napa during the current situation is very challenging as most of the wineries are closed to the public, or offering very limited tastings in multiple ways. We were lucky enough to grab a reservation at Hagafen for an outdoor tasting and had a blast. First of all, if you are worried about safety procedures at Hagafen, don't be. Masks, social distancing, hand washing and sanitizing are strict enforced. I felt very safe, comfortable and welcomed at Hagafen. So if you were already planning a Napa trip, you need not worry about being safe here. Next up, I wanted to comment on how amazing the staff is here. Marissa was our guide through the tasting and she was excellent! Charming, helpful, attentive and funny, she knew a ton about wine, gave us a few extras and was overall just a joy to be with. My girlfriend and I really enjoyed our time at the tasting, mainly because Marissa made it so amazing. It also helps that the wine is very good as well. Not sure what else to say here, other then if you are planning a trip to Napa, you should put Hagafen on your list. This winery was awesome! It's a very small winery which made the experience much better in my opinion. We didn't know this, but you actually are required to reserve a tasting on their website so make sure you do that! They have a small outdoor seating area with a couple of yard games. One of the best wines that we tried was their Tempranillo. It was extremely smooth and very flavorful. I would definitely recommend checking this winery out when in Napa. Wonderful experience! Easy to book reservations online, and easy going, friendly staff (thank you Vince!). We bought a few bottles including a couple 2020 Hagafen Lake County Rieslings, which I quickly regretted not buying more - so delicious! Was a peaceful, chill time, and great tasting experience. We visited Hagafen for the second time this past weekend - and I honestly couldn't have been more pleased with the experience! In addition to having a phenomenal selection of wines to try (for EVERY palate, I might add), the outdoor tasting area was tranquil, serene, and felt 100% suited to a socially-distant tasting. Last winery stop. Hagafen Cellars is a bit further down Silverado Trail, but they were offering free tasting passes on their website. We were greeted as soon as we walked into the tasting room. It was crowded and a bit stuffy. The room was so tiny that you can see everything there is as you step into the room. We sat at a corner of the room and behind us was a wall filled with framed menus. Not just any menu, but special White House meals that had served Hagafen wines. It was very interesting to see the special guests that partook in those meals. When we discovered their basic tasting is only $5 and premium tasting is only $10, we decided not to use the free tasting passes. It's such a small place and they were asking for so little! Their wines turned out to be very tasty. We did both the basic and premium and there were 5 wines per tasting. So don't ask me which ones were good. We ended up picking 2 bottles of wine, which void our tasting fee anyway =) read more

There is no surprise this is one of smallest producers in the area. I have rarely disliked a sweet wine so there is nothing special about this place. Sweet wines are what people appreciate about this place. Beyond average taste, the bait switching and poor etiquette were the major disappointments. I suspect we would have received better service at a place which makes wine in a box (box wine) or offers tastings at a county fair. Our experience (1) With the $25 prix and reserve tasting, you are given the choice of five wines. Our host poured white and red wines in the same glass without giving any red wine to swirl to clean the glass once we changed over from white to red. That was a first. (2) We would request a certain type and our guy would try to give us something different by proceeding to pour it as if he did not hear us. When we managed to get his attention, he put the forced bottle up and asked someone else to pour the requested bottle for us. (3) Two the of wines with very different vintage years (2009 Prix Melange and 2005 Prix Melange) tasted exactly alike. Exactly alike. If I did not know better, I would swear they stuck a four year old label on one and sold it for more even though they are completely the same. (4) If you come here with a driver who calls ahead, you are not eligible for the checkin in offer or website offer. This makes little sense because any tasting fees are separate from what you pay your driver. Also, never mind the only exception on the offer is for a party size larger than 5 and Saturdays. Our group was a party of four and we visited on a Friday. (5) We chose two different tastings options to share because we wanted to pace ourselves and without plenty variety. We then planned to buy one type of wine. Upon purchase, we noticed we were charged for the higher tasting of the two. Never mind that each tasting says the tasting fee is waived upon the purchase of a bottle. It does not say you have to purchase a wine from a certain category and the wine we chose was at the same price point as wines in both categories. Of 8 wineries over two days, this the ONLY winery that changed the rules to their benefit and charged a couple for one person's tasting when wine was purchased. Of the 8 wineries we visited during our time here, four others were boutique wineries. Overall Impression Apparently this place either makes up the rules as it goes along or hopes you are too drunk to notice when you are being duped. Perhaps our guy was the exception, but he made it a point to say it was a family run business and it felt like they were in the starting stages or never learned how to compete. Our guy was more concerned with banking tasting fee bucks than wine sales and to prove it, he tried to slip the charges passed us by simply saying sign here. When questioned, he gave a quick response and then directed his attention elsewhere. We patiently waited for him to circle back to us to let him know we decided against buying anything and would pay for the tastings only. We wished we had never visited. read more

I visited 7 vineyards over the course of 2 days in Napa and Sonoma and this one was by far the most memorable, more because of the customer service than the wine itself. I only went here in the first place on behalf of a Jewish co-worker who identified this vineyard and one other as the only 2 Kosher vineyards she could find in all of Napa. But, according to Hagafen, they're the only one out of over 500 total vineyards in all of Napa. Talk about cornering the market! Now, back to the customer service. These people are super friendly. They have two tasting options (5 tastes for $15 or 5 tastes of the reserve and prix wines for $25). Needless to say, they don't follow these rules at all. They're generous with the pours and will let you re-sample just to make sure you like what you thought you liked before you commit to a bottle. They'll also let you try some of the reserve and prix wines without committing to that tasting menu. Walking away from here without buying a bottle is pretty tough considering they waive the tasting fee if you do buy a bottle. So basically, you can go here and sample as many wines as you want and walk away having only spent $24 (if you opt for the cheapest bottle on the menu). If you want to ball out, their most expensive bottle is $90. I tried to get a pic with Don Ernesto, but he said he was too busy. A bit lame, but he is kind of a big deal considering Hillary Clinton personally wrote him a letter thanking him for the symbolic nature of his wine during an Israeli-Palestinian peace dinner hosted by the White House. read more

Friendly hosts and laid back atmosphere. They don't have a set menu for their wine tasting - you get to pick and choose up to 5 wines off their current offerings! They have white, red, and sweet wine. I like this, since I'm more of a white/sweet wine gal, but I did try some of their reds in an effort to appreciate red wine. Their wines are also decently priced for what they are, and some have very fun labels on them. Quick note - they do have a BOGO offer through Yelp Check-In... however! It does not work on the weekends. Our host (who's name I can't remember, forgive me) offered to apply it anyways, but I knew if we bought 2 bottles of wine our tasting fees would get waved anyways. Our host was super friendly and personable, easy to talk to and never made us feel out of place despite our youth. Their whites are good and crisp - I particularly enjoyed the complimentary Sauvignon Blanc that we received upon arriving to the tasting room. The Collage and Beret Rose we tasted were also very good, and I ended up buying a bottle of the Beret Rose. I recommend trying their Cabernet Franc - normally this grape is used for blending and it's uncommon for winemakers to make a wine that's 100% Cabernet Franc. I really liked this red wine since it didn't have that bitter, leathery after-taste that I hate about red wine (I'm sure some people enjoy that). Their Crescendo red wine also has a smooth finish and strawberry, perfect for someone like me who hates dry wine. I ended up buying a bottle of both, since red wines I enjoy are hard to come by. Funny thing, when our host found out how much I disliked red wine, he gave me a free sample of their 2005 Prix Melange (off the menu)... oh my goodness, it was a wonderful red wine! Very smooth, very fruity Their sweet wines are where it's at though - their late harvest wines taste like alcoholic honey and would go great with a cheesecake! The late harvest Sauvignon Blanc was wonderful! Oddly enough, the website and Yelp site state that they hold tours everyday from 10:30 am (except Saturday)... we went at 10:30 am and even called to confirm the day before, yet when we showed up the guy told us they don't normally do tours? It was alright since they let us do a "self tour" - they let us into the warehouse so we got to check out their wine making equipment and freely explore the grounds. They even have chickens and lawn games like Yahtzee, ring toss, and bean bag tosses. read more

I really appreciate how Hagafen Cellers sometimes post coupons on their website for free wine tasting, especially during this economic time. It seems like common sense for other wineries to do, but then again can you only imagine the stress you'd get after your free tasting to buy something? I was not pressured at all to buy anything after our tasting! The woman that helped us out was truly a sweet heart. She understood that I was a newb to wine and suggested to try clears first. I'm really thankful for her help because in other wineries no one would really go out of their was to help someone understand the value, taste and process of producing their products. We did a tasting here last Sunday and had a wonderful time with our host Vincent. The weather was surprisingly hot so after a day of drinking red wines Vincent asked if we wanted to change the menu to showcase more white wines which was perfect for our group. We weren't pressured into sales and Vincent went over the history of the winery and their approach to winemaking. We left with a case of Chardonnay which was the favorite of the white wines and a little Cabernet Franc that was poured off the menu for us. There was one wine that was amazing (i think the pinot?) but they were good but not all of them were mind blowing or anything. My favorite part was the outdoor seating that you can bring your own food too, and just split a bottle.
