I was really disappointed with the Ultimate Ranch Experience. The horseback riding was good with a few areas of improvement, but the tasting experience afterward left us feeling very disappointed. I booked this experience to celebrate my husband's birthday, and one of the reasons I chose it was because the website advertises that guests can "relax in a private cabana at the Overlook." Unfortunately, that was not our experience. We were seated at a regular table without a view of the Overlook. When I asked if we could move to one of the cabanas, I was told they were reserved for parties larger than 2. However, there was a couple (party of 2) seated in one of the cabanas, so that explanation was inaccurate and left me feeling embarrassed for even asking. Had I known we would not be seated in a cabana as advertised, I would have booked a different experience. The scenery and photo opportunities were a big part of why I chose this package, and because of where we were seated, we weren't able to enjoy that aspect at all. This experience was not cheap, so I don't think it's unreasonable to expect that what is advertised is what guests actually receive. When people are paying for a specific experience, it's important that the website accurately reflects what is included or clearly states if certain features, such as cabana seating, are not guaranteed. As for the horseback riding tour, I was near the back of the line and could barely hear what the guide was saying. As a result, we missed most of the information shared throughout the ride. It would be helpful if the tour guides periodically stopped to speak to the group or used a system that allows everyone to hear, regardless of where they are in the line, especially when some people may be hard of hearing. This is something that really needs improvement, as the educational aspect of the tour is part of the experience guests are paying for. I would also recommend updating the website so it accurately sets expectations for future guests. I also hope staff provide honest and transparent explanations rather than giving information that is inconsistent with what guests can clearly see. read more

I finally made it to horseback riding and wine tasting and it was worth it. The property is absolutely stunning! The charcuterie board was really good and we were able to get refills which was nice. We opted for both wine options. Everything was explained well and the service was top tier. The outside ambiance was really nice I wish they had low music playing but other than that so worth it. read more

Loooved lounging on their comfy couch buzzed after a few pours. Comfy table and couch setting with our charcuterie board, name card, glasses and spectacular views. Loved that it's hidden in the hills and wasn't swarming with visitors, so we could relax peacefully minus the noise. It was great that other tasters were spaced out so we didn't have close convos distracting us. That's the appeal of smaller wineries vs. the giants that have everyone packed in like sardines, not comfy at all! Wasn't blown away by any of the wines, but appreciated Mark very much who was very well-spoken and pleasant. He didn't rush us and was very accommodating as I had a wine novice with me visiting Napa for the first time. She enjoyed the semillion and took a bottle home with her. I was looking forward to celebrating a friend's birthday at Shadybrook Estate Winery, but unfortunately, the experience was disappointing from beginning to end. Our horseback riding reservation was scheduled for 1:00 p.m. We arrived on time with a group of five, but our ride was delayed approximately 30 minutes while staff waited for another reservation--a party of one--that arrived late. Under normal circumstances, I wouldn't have minded waiting. However, this was frustrating because during a previous visit, when our group was running late, we called ahead and were told there was absolutely no flexibility. Our ride was completely rescheduled because we were told the 1:00 p.m. ride was the last time slot of the day and they couldn't make other groups wait. It was disappointing to see that policy applied differently when it inconvenienced other guests instead. During the horseback ride itself, there was one staff member leading the group and another following behind. The guide in front shared the history of the winery, but despite riding near the front, I couldn't hear most of what she was saying. If guests are meant to enjoy the educational aspect of the tour, there needs to be a better way for everyone to hear. Additionally, it felt as though much of the staff's attention was focused on the solo rider in our group. They appeared to know her on a first-name basis, and whether they had a prior relationship or were simply trying to make sure she was comfortable, it left the rest of our group feeling overlooked. Unfortunately, the service issues continued during the wine tasting. Before we could begin, our wine consultant insisted that payment had not been made and stated he could not pour any wine until payment was collected. I had already paid in full and ultimately had to log into my bank account and show proof that the transaction had gone through before we could proceed. That was an awkward and unnecessary way to begin the tasting experience. The wines themselves were enjoyable but nothing particularly memorable. At the conclusion, our consultant simply ended the experience without offering a revisit of any of the wines we had tasted--a courtesy that many wineries provide and one we've come to expect during guided tastings. One final disappointment was the lack of any personal touches. I made this reservation months in advance for a birthday celebration and, after reading numerous positive reviews, was excited by the thoughtful details other guests described--such as personalized menus with guests' names at each place setting. Instead, we were given standard menus with no acknowledgment that we were celebrating a special occasion. While this may seem like a small detail, it's those thoughtful touches that often elevate a wine country experience and make guests feel valued. It was disappointing to see that level of hospitality missing, especially after booking so far in advance and reading such glowing reviews The property is beautiful, and the horses were wonderful and appeared well cared for, but the inconsistent customer service, lack of attention to guests, and overall rushed experience left us disappointed. Given the premium price of this experience, I expected much better hospitality and consistency. Unfortunately, I wouldn't choose to return or recommend it based on this visit. read more

We had a beautiful time on Shadybrook Winery! Our host Luis was fun and personable, and made us feel welcome immediately. I was unaware when booking our reservation that Shadybrook and Rapp Ranch are on the same property, but it made for such a fun tasting; my friend and got to experience one tasting of each (Shadybrook and Rapp). Both tastings were excellent and the cheese plate with our naes on it was just stunning. I did list in our reservation details that one of us was a vegetarian, and they made sure to acknowledge that. The view was stunning and Luis gave us a wonderful lowdown of the property, the climate, the soil, and how they all affect the wines. My friend and I came on a weekday morning so we had the entire place to ourselves, and Luis spent so much time talking with us; we had such a wonderful experience. Visited this amazing winery yesterday greeted by the Manager Alyssa, who had top-tier phenomenal customer service. It's not every day you run into a Manager who represents a brand the way she do.. our server was Mark who was full of energy very informative took his time notice when we needed a refill. There was a charcuterie board, a tasting of 5 wines from lightest to richest (white to red), cornhole, and and several standing tables. I wish there was more coverage from the heat and a refill of the charcuterie board, but besides that, no complaints. The staff was nice and open to answering questions about the wine process; you'd have to ask since they're busy attending to everyone's drinks. I really enjoyed their red blend. read more

The winery is beautiful and the views are spectacular. Hospitality is lacking, however. We selected the Overlook experience and it did not live up to expectations. I'll backtrack a bit to being transferred to the GM, Kristine, to clarify an issue with adding a designated driver to my group. She tersely agreed to add the person at the price I was originally given (and booked). She proceeded to hang up on me- no apologies for the misunderstanding- no goodbye, she simply hung up. When I shared this with their event manager, she apologized and noted that I'd likely receive a call from her leadership team. That did not happen. During the tasting, I did like that they printed my friend's name on the menu to wish her a happy birthday. Our server was nice. Pours were very, very light. Normally, we're offered the opportunity to revisit pours or offered a tasting off menu. Shadybrook simply didn't do that for us. We were further disappointed to find that they don't bring purchased bottles out to clients. They left them in the cave - fine, understood it was a hot day. I expect for them to then bring them out when the group is getting ready to leave. All in all, I will not return. I was contemplating hosting a corporate event here, but strongly believe they need to train their hospitality staff. read more

They are a smaller winery. You aren't going to run into this wine in stores; you can only purchase it on the estate. We did the perfect pairing with charcuterie and it was wonderful. This winery REALLY will depend on your vibe. If you're into the calm collected wineries, it's for you. If you're passing through Napa generally as a first time rodeo to hit big names and spend equivalent money, maybe not? Just depends on your personal taste and opinion. We would return. We left with a bottle and it was delicious. Personally, I love wineries that are a little more exclusivity and tranquility , but it totally depends on your vibe. I definitely recommend this winery to anyone Visiting the Napa Valley. We had an awesome view during our tasting and there was a beautiful fire pit to keep us warm during our morning tasting. All of the wines are delicious, I'm usually not a Chardonnay fan and theirs is really good. I had to grab a bottle of their 2018 Cabernet Sauvignon because it was so delicious. The service was amazing and the scenery is beautiful. They offer horseback riding which I think is really cute and makes an awesome unique experience. We were immediately helped by one of the people at the gate to sign waivers, get a helmet and meet the beautiful horses. My company selected Shadybrook for a team wine tasting. As a non-drinker, I called in advance to ask if they had any non-alcoholic options. They told me no. I asked permission to bring a non-alcoholic beverage and checked to see if they would have ice on hand, which they confirmed. On the day of the event, they told me they didn't have ice, and my only option was chilled water. This was super depressing and not welcoming at all. My boyfriend and I came here after visiting a more well-known and trafficked winery and were over the moon delighted by how personable, friendly, knowledgeable, and genuine the staff were at Shadybrook. We didn't feel rushed, we were welcomed and had really great conversations with both Rachel and Brett who were taking care of us. Rachel was so incredibly knowledgeable about the history of the ranch, the grapes, the different vintages, and of the wine, she was such a delight and a great storyteller.
