I had been to Hagafen Cellars on my own several times for tastings and joined the wine club. It was a natural to have a family birthday celebration here since five of us are born in September! My two daughters, the younger born on my birthday in September, my son-in-law and four of my six grandchildren gathered. We brought a picnic and a cake. Yair, cousin to Don Ernesto's wife, was our host and guide. He was knowledgeable, fun and enthusiastic. Each time he brought a delicious wine for tasting, he filled us in with fascinating information. Even the kids were attentive and interested! Had an AMAZING time here with friends. T.J and Cindy were great hosts. Not knowing Napa protocol, my friends and I soon discovered that reservations were necessary for several places. Luckily I trust Yelp to guide me and I called..... T.J said we were more than welcome right then! First, when you drive onto the grounds, the view is amazing. The driveway is lined with vineyard plants just like a movie. Then you get to the tasting room, which is a quaint little cottage. Everyone was super friendly and really knowledgeable. $25 dollars for 5 tastings. Price comped if you buy 2 bottles. They also have a Yelp check in deal for BOGO tastings but not on Saturdays. If you don't want to do tastings, you can also do wines by the glass. The tasting room is really casual and not pretentious at all. At about 1030-11am on a Saturday morning, there were only 2 other customers so it wasn't busy. We ended up buying a bottle of their riesling and 2010 Cab which were both delicious. Wine in Napa can be hard to maneuver around to determine unique and tasteful places to experience. We found this small venue amidst an recommendation from our driver. Beautiful scenery along the Silverado trail, where the most amazing hill sides and vineyards can be found. The wine tasting was relatively inexpensive compared to other locations. Helpful staff with personality, and the smoothest wine I've ever had! My wife and I have a taste for sweeter wines but they had many options. It was raining the day we visited but the outdoor area looked like it would be beautiful on a nice day! They had some damaged vines from the recent fire but are bouncing back graciously. A server at another winery recommended Hagafen Cellars -- and I am not quite sure why. Perhaps because it is unlike other wineries on the Silverado Trail. It is a small, unpretentious operation and set back quite a ways from the road. If we weren't looking for it, we would have missed it. The tasting room is small and rather "busy" with its decor. Of most interest were the framed menus and letters from the White House where the Hagafen wines (kosher) have been served for state dinners with Israeli officials. As we planned to visit several other wineries, we opted to share a $20 tasting. Nothing stood out for us, although we did purchase a 2016 dry white riesling ($24) and also a 2013 cab franc ($39). We found it hard to keep a conversation going with the gentleman (not the owner) who was pouring the wine. Much of the fun of wine tasting is to learn more about wine from the perspective of the particular winery we are visiting -- and, if possible, to get ideas for other wineries. Besides the wine, Hagafen also bottles olive oil and sells eggs. No eggs were available as the chickens were not laying. Beyond the covered patio area we found a chicken coop with several chickens. From my long-ago farm days, I can say I was not impressed with the chickens. They did not look particularly healthy. I am not sure if I would describe the outside seating area as funky or whimsical. Perhaps a bit of both. Overall I felt as if we were off the beaten path of Napa -- and I realize that would appeal to some people. Don't regret stopping at Hagafen, but we do not plan on returning any time soon. read more

We had a small post-wedding family gathering at Hagafen Cellars on 5/15/22 and the experience was delightful in every way. Their wine tasting experience is educational and fun and the staffer who conducted it was smooth, entertaining, educational and wonderful in every way. They have a 5-acre vineyard and a pretty courtyard. Their tastings were varied and delicious including 3 different Rieslings (my personal favorite)! They're very close to Oakland and City of Napa and super-convenient to get to on local roads which aren't too congested. All in all, the perfect Napa small winery experience! read more

We have been touring Napa wineries this weekend and on a whim booked Hagafen for our last day - we were absolutely thrilled with the entire experience. I called ahead and asked about adding some rieslings to our tasting, and Phil was so accommodating! Not only did he add rieslings, he made an entirely new white wine flight for us and answered every question we had without talking down to us. Four of us visited after the Napa Valley Marathon and what a treat! First of all, I found this location through https://napavalleypassport.com/ (highly recommend getting a passport to double up on tastings). I didn't really realize that this was a kosher winery, but our friends were thrilled (and they purchased wine for Passover!) The staff was warm, knowledgeable, and even walked us around to see the property and get to better know the microclimate in that area. We found the Prix wines to be most flavorful of the three tastings and prices were reasonable. Highly recommend! read more

Cool little place with very friendly staff. They were accommodating for last minute reservations (do need to make one). There's a nice tasting area with open doors to the patio outside with chairs and tables and a nice view into some of the vineyard. Tasting was only $20 and with yelp it was BOGO. They also waive the fee for a purchase of a single bottle so only ended up being $30 for two tastings and a bottle. Hagafen is an outstanding example of a small winery with big heart and great wines. We came here mostly because it was along the Silverado trail (where we were taking a leisurely bike ride), didn't require a reservation, and had tables for us to bring lunch; as a bonus, we had a BOGO tasting from our hotel (also offered via Yelp check-in). Cindy served us and was such a pleasure to talk to. She was knowledgeable about the wine and we had a fun time chatting with her. It was great visiting a winery where there were only 1-2 pairs of patrons, so we felt very relaxed and well attended to. Cindy even gave us a couple bonus tastes because she was clearly passionate about the wine. We very much enjoyed everything we tasted, particularly the 2014 and 2015 sauvignon blancs and both the prix melange from 2005 and 2009. We actually ended up joining their wine club (gasp! the first one we have ever joined!) because of the friendly service, great wine, no cancellation fee, and ability to choose whatever you want in your shipment. We just got our shipment today, and I'm very excited to open up a bottle soon! We actually spent most of our time chatting with Cindy inside, but we eventually made our way outside to the eat our picnic lunch that we had brought. Located right on the picturesque Silverado Trail in Napa Valley near Yountville, Hagafen Winery (as in borei p ree hagafen, when saying the Jewish prayer for wine) was 1 of 4 wineries open on Christmas Day that I was lucky enough to experience. I was super skeptical thinking their wine would taste similar to Manischevitz wine, which is super gross! Thank goodness I was wrong! The tasting room is small, cute and has lots of windows facing out directly towards the vineyards. The pourers were friendly at the beginning, but became busier as it started to get packed after our first 2 or 3 tastes. The prices were right - It was $5 to taste any five or $10 to taste any five of the reserve wines. We went with the reserve wines, and he even let us taste all 10! Their Sauvignon Blancs and Rieslings were keepers; I even ended up purchasing a bottle of the SB. read more

Came here on Saturday in the late afternoon with a 4pm appointment for 2 people. We arrived about 30 minutes early and were accommodated. We did our tasting with Rod who is just the nicest man. Because the main tasting room was filled with people when we arrived, we did our tasting in the Barrel Room. The $25 fee for the basic tasting of 5 wines is waived if you buy 2 or more bottles. Le bf and I ended up tasting more than 5 wines and we did dip into the reserve wines as well. There was wine for every different pallet here at Hagafen. I prefer the sweeter, fruitier wines while the bf likes the bold reds. Between the 2 of us, we purchased 2 bottles of sweeter/dessert wines, 2 bottles of the chardonnay, and 1 of the pinot noir. For my Jewish friends, the wine here that they sell is Kosher, even for Passover! Needless to say, we purchased some to save for Passover for the next year. Rod was also the best! He took the time to explain each wine we were about to taste and could answer any questions we asked. During our tasting, he also brought out some blueberries and apricots, that he bought from a lady in a fruit stand, that we could munch on/use as a palate cleanser. Sadly, when we went, it was about 105 degrees Fahrenheit in Napa so we were not able to enjoy the grounds, as none of us felt like roasting in the heat. However, we will definitely be back for the great customer service, great people in general, the grounds, and the wine. read more

I was recommended to this place not only by Yelp but by a few friends who had come here the year before and thorough enjoyed their wines, so much they took home almost a case! I was pretty surprised and they had a nice coupon for a free tasting for two so I decided to stop by. To my actual surprise, this place is very small, the garden area is nice but nothing to write home about and the whole place kind of seemed very informal and too cluttered inside. Even though it was small, we weren't greeted immediately when we entered so kind of browsed around the small area without knowing what to do since the bar area seemed full. It was after a while that someone at the bar paid attention to us and asked if we'd like a tasting. Despite what some of the other reviewers said, we did not get five free tastings, only 3 and they were all of white wines that I was unimpressed with ... I did not have any of their reds but I don't feel like they would have given me any enlightenment about this place either. This was our first stop on the Silverado Trail and George took care of the bday crew and made sure everyone had generous pours. Hagfen Cellars is family-owned, boutique, and intimate winery. That was one of the reasons why we liked it. We had a 20 person table set for us on the side of the winery which was very nice and considerate. I wasn't a fan of the reds, but the reislings were decent and I would return for a good-priced bottle. Tasting fee is reasonable at $5. Hafagen holds a very special place in my heart since it was the first winery I went to when I moved to California. I went on a Sunday around the holiday season so they were not super busy which meant that they truly catered to every question I had and were super generous with their sample size. LOVE LOVE LOVE! This was the first winery I EVER went to, and I just feel in love of how petite and cozy it was. Although finding it was a little pain since the entrance was not obvious. But that's alright...it was worth all the 234310987 point turns in the middle of the route. The wine tasting area is all clumped together where they sold the bottles. Luckily enough, we had a coupon for 2 for 1 and it was free! (Don't forget to do some winery research). So we each at 3 free drinks. However, since we came together, we starting drinking out of each other's glasses and it became like 6 drinks each :) I always thought I was "Red Wine Lover'' truth be told. I am not. It got bitter and bitter as we went down the red wine list, and Tom saw the hilarious faces I made, and "skip" those and substituted some that were sweeter that had less tannins. As of now, I enjoy a glass of white wine more than red. Hahaha glad I learned something new towards my drinking list. Tom was EXTREMELY accommodating with us, since we were complete NOOBS at wine, he gave us a great small lecture to us about each year's harvest, where they're grown, how long they sit, how to read the menu, and the whole shebang! Tom I'm totally giving you 5 stars! Tom also informed me that you can bring a moderate large party (6-9) ppl and open a bottle and have a relaxing day outside their tasting area. I LOVE this idea, such a great trip with the girls, sipping on wine and gossiping. That's how the pros do it! I think the only thing I didn't like was that there was all these people who were with you, standing at the "bar" drinking with you. So you're semi-forced to taste, love, purchase, and leave. Between the two of us, we tried: Dry White Riesling Collage Chardonnay Pinot Noir Clarinet Syrah Crescendo Cabernet Franc Cabernet Sauvingon L.H Sauv Blanc LOVED the Sauv Blanc! A dessert wine. Really sweet, but good in small amounts. We also enjoyed the Collage and Cabernet Sauvingon. Once you get your glass, you're able to roam the grounds freely and explore. We didn't see the dog =( but there was a very needy cat lol. We were just sitting outside and the cat just climbed right onto my boyfriend's lap and didn't want to move lol. Super friendly. I have been meaning to write this review for awhile. Hagafen is by far me and my partners favorite winery! We have been members for about three years now and love everything about this place! Hagafen has a huge wine selection; some of our favorite wines include the Rosé and the Syrah! Ultimately you cannot go wrong with any of their amazing bottles of wine. The customer services is beyond brilliant! You are treated like family at every visit. My partner and I came here just yesterday and we're greeted with a glass of bubbly. This is probably the smallest winery we went to. The counter space is super tiny, so I can't imagine what it would be like if this place was busy. We came a little later in the afternoon so it wasn't too crowded. The guy that helped us explained the tasting menu to us which consisted of pre-fix wines in 3 different categories. Most of them you pay a fix price and choose 5 tastings you would like from the list. We went with the Sweet Wines menu which gave us 5 tastes for $15: 2013 White Riesling, Lake 2008 White Riesling, Lake 2013 White Riesling, Napa 2009 Prix White Riseling 2009 Late Harvest Sauv Blanc When they say Sweet Wines, they MEAN sweet wines. The least sweet ones which I could actually finish were the first two. The three that came after those were way too sweet and I had to toss out the remainder of the tasting.
