This store is so ridiculously expensive. and the aisles are wide open and very empty looking. It kind of reminds me of the future of government controlled shopping. With all of these big conglomerates groceries merging as one, that worries me. Too many Corporations in one take over. I bet it is mostly government funded. Disclaimer- this place is SPENDY!!! But there is so much to enjoy...it's similar to a Whole Foods. This is the kind of store you go to every few months when you need just a few specialty items or lunch...not your every day grocery store (unless money isn't a problem whatsoever, but then still, who would always overpay?). When you walk in, there is fresh fruit for free for the kids and a fruit infused water for adults to sip on. Score. This store has a Woods coffee, pharmacy, bank, deli counter (hot deli food includes whole rotisserie chickens, chicken strips, jojos, etc while the cold deli has cold cuts, cheese slices, salads, and the like), a Chinese food hot bar, sandwich station, huge produce section, a delightful bakery, meat and seafood section, rare and pricey cheese section, big booze and cocktail needs selection, seasonal goods (think Easter candy, Valentine's day needs, etc), and bulk candy. It has it all! I highly suggest the scones or their cakes from the bakery. I also like to wander through produce and it's fun to be able to get a sandwich made just for you at the sandwich bar. I also can find all my homemade cocktail needs here. Bulk candy is fun to take to movies (bonus that this store is across the street from the movie theater, not that I'm encouraging anyone to break any rules!). This store was a Safeway purchased by Haggens. My previous review was deleted because it was not specific (?). The review that was deleted: "Removed Content: The Safeway was converted to Haggens and even tho the people are the same, the systems are so screwed up that you can't get normal Rxs filled right. The lines are long and lots of folks are frustrated." My statement stands, but it was suggested that I give advice. Give them a try if the store is convenient to you and hopefully they have improved (the people aren't bad, just the new systems, including the Rx dial in system) If it's good, great! But, if you have multiple bad experiences like I did, move on. Life is too short. In addition, we found that almost every price was higher than the Safeway it replaced, and they did not have normal produce in the case (cilantro for example). read more

Here we go again. Haggens is at it again. Just purchased a focaccia sandwiche in the Deli, they raised the price by 10 percent and made the sandwich smaller. Five years ago they did the same thing in the bakery, smaller muffins and raised the price. I actually called the corporate office when I noticed my rice bowl wasn't filled to what I became a accustomed to and they said they HAD been over serving their customers. We really dislike Haggen. I don't know why anyone would shop here. The prices are ridiculous, the produce, meat and fish are NOT fresh. The worst ever are the deli items and the "Haggen-ese" sushi and other Asian food. We get the loss-leader/coupon items if we have a chance each week, but otherwise shop anywere BUT Haggens for our groceries. I wish they'd close up and we could get an Aldi's instead. read more

I have no idea why people shop here, unless they are very well off. There must be a lot of people who don't have to watch what they spend. Because this store is so over-priced and for absolutely no reason. I have stopped in here occasionally just to pick up one or two items, and I have also gotten bad and/or stale food here as I notice some other reviewers have mentioned. Too lazy to write a review about my nightmarish experience last Wednesday until I read of somebody else's nightmare at Haggens when perusing recent yelp activity. Okay so it is my duty to warn and Yelp out my friends. A couple of years ago I used to get some good sandwiches from this place. Now begin to my nightmare. Well actually I dodged the bullet because I didn't eat a bad sandwich. Went to pick up a couple of sandwiches for workers at my home and thought I'd get a New York for myself. 3 workers at the counter and one person in front of me... Turns out the guy in front of me just came for a chat. His friend working the counter was up for that. He exits and i am acknowledged. I asked her if there were any New York sandwiches. Turns out that was next on her agends, barring any visitors. At her rate of progress I decided to nix a New York for me and just ordered the two turkey with provolone for workers at my home. I went to the other counter to order potato salad. 4 people behind the counter and I was ignored for 5 minutes. I asked an older gentleman who works for Haggens to watch. He was chafing at the bit to intervene on my behalf. Turns out he works as the manager of an Oregon Haggens store. Very apologetic, it doesn't help the systemic problem. 10 minutes later I go to grab the two sandwiches. She is putting mayonnaise on the bread while apologizing that she had gotten distracted. I figure I better hover if its ever going to be completed. A few minutes later I am handed the two sandwiches. Wondered what if it had actually been a busy lunchtime. She then tells me she had made me a New York.Grrr... the young lady at the register was busy chatting with another employee. Luckily he finished up and scurried to his section. I was short changed at the register and had to explain the math. Times 2. First she tried to give me back too much money and then she tried to take too much money. Yes it gets worse. When I got home one of the workers saw a piece of my corn beef hanging out. Woah.... check out the green on that meat. The bread was hard and the meat was rainbow colored. The label was marked for the sandwiches she had made that day which were clubs. The sandwich was from a bygone lunch. I finally figured out how she magically prepared a new york between my watching her start the turkey provolones, stepping away for a moment as I felt like I was watching paint dry, and watching her complete the turkey/provolones. Deli leaves the plastic on when slicing meat. This has happened so many times that I've just stopped going here.

Not sure why, but I always seem to leave here mad. Either some employee rubs me the wrong way or something happens, like waiting 20 min for prescription even when no one was in front of me, and they only had the grab a pre made bottle of something, But phone orders were first ( I was told in a nice way way, so sit over there lol) so I waited in a chair behind no one:( lol anyway not my favorite place read more

The store has recently remodeled and with it being the flagship of Haggen's stores it couldn't show it off any better. the interior is relaxed and warm. The produce area jumps out at you and begs you to buy from it. The bakery looks like a slice of pari's was taken and shipped overseas. They have delicate handmade chocolates and pastries behind the counter and handmade well cared for loaves of fresh breads. The Meat department also remodeled to include the fish department as well and their case presentation is astounding. They also have a cooking class booth added in now as well to feature different cooking wines and techniques. This store puts the customer first and you can see it from each aisle you walk down. The only issue that I as well as many other people have with Haggen's is the prices are usually a little steep around the board. But overall well done. read more

This is a BIG store! What I like about this store was how the store seems to have lots of little stores within it--multiple cuisine style choices, from sandwiches to sushi, they have it all. It's a great place to grab a quick bit to eat. They offer lots of fresh organic foods, fruits & vegetables too. read more

Third time I have bought potato salad at the deli where it was really old or the potatoes were undercooked. Salads were not edible. It was like they took old potatoes and put new mayo/sour cream on them to trick customers! Quit buying the Chinese food as it also was very old. Do employees keep track of the freshness of foods? Haggen's store is bright and alive with the colors of fruit, vegetables and flowering plants. The entrance welcomes you and the aroma from the deli draws you in. The wide aisles in this grocery store encourages shoppers to linger and look at the variety of items. Their wine selection would hold its own in comparison with a much larger store. Any palate will be easily pleased by both domestic and imported beer, but be sure to allow sufficient time to browse! I was happy to see a good selection of nonalcoholic wine and beer at this store. I shop here several days a week. The people are always friendly and helpful. The bakery staff is accommodating, and the cheese lady is very knowledgeable. I love picking out new cheeses with my boys to try with dinner. Prices can be on the high side at times, but there are always good sales and they have a good variety. Hagan has a love-hate relationship they have great delis great meat prices are little bit higher but I can understand that sometimes snobby not the best customer service but everybody has their own opinion. Parking in Berkeley Village is not the best either. read more

Haggens is terrible to their employees and to their customers. From not allowing employees to keep water bottles in the back room to discouraging them to take their breaks, the nightmare never ends at Haggen. Employees don't care to pay attention to customers, they work there and we are just visiting. Don't be fooled by their Haggen look either, it's a Safeway/Albertsons in disguise but with higher prices, especially bad when they raise prices before the holidays so they can run "sales" later. The "sale" was just the regular price before they raised it. Don't be fooled by the new Authentically Haggen thing they are doing, they will 100% be run by Albertsons and no longer Haggen at all. They just don't want anyone to know so they have keep having higher prices for lower quality food. Was there with my husband to buy some bread, since he's into whiskey he decided to buy a bottle. At the register we were asked for ID's, no problem of course but here's the problem with asking both of us. If he's buying booze why do you want mine? It's his credit card, he showed his ID, he's buying it, what to do you want from me?!!!! We were told it's "STORE POLICY, if we're two people" . So you're telling me, if I purchase booze while having my 10 year old with me I won't get it because it's obvious a child - we're two people?!! Are you fucking kidding me? Fuck you Kelly!!
