Sam provided superb customer service, she was extremely courteous and serveral customers spoke to her while she was placing my order. The bread, and pesto were fantastic! Solid sandwich spot not too far off the interstate. We stopped on our way back from snowboarding on a Sunday for lunch. Place was pretty busy and it was a challenge to find a parking spot. Order at the counter and they bring it out to you. My son went with the Turkey Pesto ($14) and I went with the Gourmet Turkey ($14). Both came with kettle chips and pickle spear. They were good servings....but the sandwiches were a little on the dry/bland end. Would be good to have some spicy mayo or mustard options along with spicy turkey options (e.g. blackened). I love Avenue Bread. I used to live in Bellingham and have eaten at most of the locations. All are wonderful. Now I usually drive up monthly and always get a cranberry turkey sandwich to take home. I also love their blueberry scones. Restaurant is always busy but staff remains friendly and helpful. Service is fast. Despite how busy they are, tables are clean. read more

Had an awesome lunch here! Showed up around 1:30 and it was bustling but there's plenty of room inside so it wasn't hard to find a seat. They have so many sandwiches and delicious-looking baked goods to choose from, including a pretty decent selection for vegetarians and some for vegans! Also a full coffee/tea menu, but the drink menu is only on a small paper at the register and not on the large chalkboards, so I didn't realize they had it until I was placing my order. But the worker was very patient and helpful while I was deciding on a drink. I got a veggie grinder, a pumpkin cookie, and an iced coconut milk latte and it was all amazing. The grinder was the perfect veggie sandwich, it's vegan but I can't imagine anyone feeling like anything is missing. Delicious blend of roasted and fresh veggies, especially those caramelized onions! Pumpkin cookie was soft, more like a cake than a cookie. Very fresh and tender not overly sugary, and they used the perfect amount of cream cheese frosting. Very smooth latte. Stopped in for lunch and was able to score a day old loaf this time yay! There was not a line to order so we got our order in right away and found a seat and then a whole lot of people started to come in. It was a longer wait than normal for the food but with how much the phone was ringing and the stream of people thats pretty good. Got a basic meaty and turkey cranberry sandwich. Basic meaty everything was cooked to perfection, perfect golden brown on the hash browns and toast withheld eggs scramble just right. The turkey cranberry was great wish it had a bit more cranberry. I have lived in Bellingham for six years and had not visited Avenue bread before today. I decided to stop by and have a breakfast sandwich. I ordered the avocado egg bacon Swiss cheese sandwich on sourdough bread to go. When they gave me the sandwich, (was not even in a bag)- tacky!, it was just half a sandwich for $7. I said wait a minute I think there's another half missing somewhere and they said no that's all you get. Unless it is otherwise specified on the menu one would assume you would get a full size sandwich , 2 pcs of bread, not half a sandwich made with one piece of bread. Unbelievably overpriced sandwich with nothing else. Yes, the sandwich was good, but not a value whatsoever. I will not be back here again because everything is way over the top expensive. read more

Crispy hashbrowns , buttery fluffy omelet stuffed with a spiced andoullie n all the trimmings make for a great morning. The wheat toast n jam is a true comfort to a weary traveler. I washed this all down with a hot london fog. These small comforts truly warm the soul and feed the spirit. Now having sampled this delicious food, the bar has been set high for other restaurants to atttempt to come close to this perfection. One of the best places in Bellingham to get a sandwich. There are a lot of items on the menu. The atmosphere is casual and the place is spacious. They specialize in sandwiches. Came here on a trip to the states and made it just in time for a weekend breakfast. Mom and I ordered a smoked salmon eggs benedict and the gourmet turkey sandwich that had pesto, red onions, sprouts, and red pepper all on soft, fresh bread. I loved the sandwich simply because of the bread. It was light and fluffy and not soggy at all from the filling. There wasn't too much turkey but the flavours worked great together and wasn't too heavy. The eggs benedict on the other hand was drench in hollandaise and I could only eat half before saying enough. The egg was poached perfect and the hash brows accompanying were fried to perfection. They had lots of smoked salmon and some cream cheese spread but overall, the dish was oily and heavy. The rosemary English muffins are second to none. So yummy. We came for breakfast twice while we were in Bellingham on vacation.

I have been going to Avenue Bread since they started in the mid 90,s. Today I ordered a bacon lettuce turkey and tomato sandwich and for the second time in the last two months I get home to find they gave me a BLT. The sandwich had one wimpy piece of lettuce and two paper thin slices of tomato. Since I ordered extra bacon the sandwich cost $20. I have seen the quality of the sandwiches in general go downhill while the prices have spiraled up. I will no longer be ordering food from Avenue Bread. Poor quality and high price. The sandwich Odyssey is a much better choice. read more

Of all of the Avenue Bread locations, this one on James Street in the heart of Sunnyland is near and dear to my heart. Currently, we end up there for weekend breakfast. Our favorite thing to order are the omelettes which come with your choice or bread (delicious and fresh Baked Avenue Bread) and hash browns. We really love the always friendly and accommodating staff. The condiment area is always clean and well stocked. It's super busy but as soon as a table Is vacated, it's being cleaned by the outstanding crew here. Breakfast is served pretty late on weekends at this location but you can also order lunch. There are so many items it can be difficult to decide. There are no bad choices here! I haven't been seeing the special omelettes of late but if they have them, they are always amazing! Parking can be tough But if you don't mind walking a block or two no Worries. Or if you have a small car. You can order to Go as well. Tasty! Breakfast here is a treat. The eggenues are delicious, as are the eggs, hash browns, Farmehouse eggs Benedict, and of course the bread. You won't find pancakes here, nor waffles (they do have French toast), but who cares? The stuff they do serve is really good. Lunch is good too. We've sampled the gumbo, tomato/dill soup, Baja turkey sandwich, quinoa, Ruben sandwich, tuna grill sandwich and black bean salad. Everything was really good. Sandwiches used to be the best. Prices have increased a lot in the past few years but today I was disappointed to find the quality has gone downhill. I ordered a basic turkey sandwich with tomato, lettuce, onion, and mayonnaise. The sandwich had very little turkey, one thin tomato slice, hardly any onion, and not much lettuce. I love breakfast, just not at breakfast time. Unfortunately, you're going to need to roll out of bed before the crack of noon to indulge in the hot breakfast items such as french toast and my all time fav eggs benny. Eggs Benedict served five different ways, but ONLY BEFORE 11:00 AM: 1) Traditional - ham 2) Florentine - tomato, spinach and mushrooms 3) The Northwest - smoked salmon , lemon dill cream cheese and tomato 4) The Avenue - bacon and arugala 5) Farmhouse - sausage patty and red onion As if the above choices weren't enough, you also get to select your English muffin flavor . The rosemary is fragrant and somewhat sweet. In addition, the rosemary muffin is so soft and supple it slices beautifully with just a fork. The 9-grain English muffin has that earthy, nutty flavor. However with it toasted, you will need a knife to slice off a bite. The default is the plain English muffin (boring!). They are all freshly baked onsite, so try them all. Of all the choices, my favorite is the Florentine with the 9-grain muffin because the flavors complement each other so well. While I like salmon, I find the smoky taste overwhelms the meal. This sentiment extends to the salty pork products in the other dishes. The hollandaise sauce at this location is consistently thick and creamy, just as it should be. The eggs are aways poached to perfection. Lightly browned hashbrowns that also adorn your plate allow you to sop up the egg yolk and hollandiase juices. With a drink, this meal will cost you about $16. They accept all forms of payment except your first born (after all, this bakery has their own buns in the oven). If you have to wake up early, you might as well come here to get perfection on a plate. Parking is free and plentiful. Big picture windows let in lots of natural light. You can work on your laptop for hours here or meet with a group to chat. From the outside, it's an understated cafe tucked into a strip mall location, but it keeps its artsy vibe alive inside. read more

This is the best Avenue Bread I have been to. They are all good, but my Tuna Sandwich was a step above what I have had several times at the other Avenue Bread I've tried. I'm sure it depends on who's working in the kitchen, because it's the same recipe. This sandwich just had more tuna, and it was sloppier, which I really liked. My friend had the Carolina Veggie Sandwich, and it was excellent as well, I liked the Jalapeno cream cheese I also appreciate the location, we went for a nice walk around the neighborhood to the west of the restaurant after our lunch, such a nice place for a walk, I already want to go back hand try it again. I regret not having the Mocha I usually get because the coffee at Avenue Bread is hands down the best coffee I've had in Bellingham. Nice job, the cook deserves a raise and a bonus. read more

I go here quite a bit for their eggenues and Chai. The service is pretty fast and the food is consistently good. They don't salt anything, which I understand as so many people don't salt their food. It is pretty much counter service and you bus your own table, but if you are there long enough, people are always walking around clearing plates. An easy, dependable breakfast on the go. read more
