The customer service for the Woburn/Barkley Haggens is out of this world. The friendliness, personality, and spark of all the associates is astounding. And thankfully, they accept EBT so I can try all their delicious deli. However, I'd have to say their meat department has got to be my favorite as far as quality and consistency goes. As far as the store itself, it's a perfect size. Not too overwhelming, and not too small. I love doing my early morning shopping here and catching up with Jamie and Laura [The sweetest people you will ever meet] I've found that even shopping later in the day, it's not terrible! Far better than Trader Joe's [Not bad mouthing them] parking lot on James St. which is a nightmare. All in all the atmosphere of this Haggens should be a staple to all. read more

Awful pharmacy. They always tell you your medication will be available in an hour and it never is. More often than not, it turns out they can't even fill it and yet they make zero effort to inform their customers. An utter disgrace to our healthcare system. I tried to speak to the supervisor and he wouldn't let me finish a sentence without interrupting me. Goodbye, Haggen! You've lost a customer for life. I am updating my review based on my recent shopping experience during the coronavirus pandemic (August 25, 2020). The focus of this update is on their response to response to Covid-19. Please read my original review for my general shopping experience here. COVID-19 Response They installed plexiglass shields at the checkout stands pretty quickly, one of the first in local businesses. They sanitize shopping baskets and carts. Narrow aisles are one-way although few customers seem to follow this rule. All the store employees wear face coverings. As far as I was able to tell, no employee wears gloves, including the produce people, who stock produce items by grabbing them by their bare hands. Comparisons with Other Stores in Town -Haggen does not seem as crowded as other stores like Fred Meyers. However, unlike Trader Joe's, Haggen does not limit the number of shoppers in their stores. -There were a noticeable number of customers who were not wearing face coverings in early June 5th. After the mask mandate by the state on June 26th, all shoppers do wear face coverings. -At this Woburn location, they have introduced self-checkout stands if you do not want to interact with people. FYI: Safeway, Fred Meyers, and Target all have self-checkout, but Trader Joe's and Whole Foods do not. Final Thoughts When businesses are struggling, I do not want to write negative reviews. However, it is important to share fair reviews (based on objective observations) so that consumers can make informed decisions. I acknowledge that Haggen has done a lot to respond to Covid-19, but it is such a turn off for me that their employees don't use gloves. In my opinion, at least the produce people should wear gloves when touching merchandize directly, which I don't think is a difficult or costly change to implement. I feel more comfortable shopping at Trader Joe's as they limit the number of shopper in the store and at least some employees wear gloves on top of the mandated face coverings. I come to this place to get sandwiches for the guys on the team building a house... Typically 3 to 6 sandwiches at a time always heated and as I run them out to the job site -- I've never had a complaint. Haggen is clearly on the high side of the "higher priced spreads" grocery store chains... but they have earned my business. read more

While more expensive than some grocery stores in the area, Haggen's makeover a few years back has been well-maintained! The warm coloring and ambient lighting are welcoming and create a space that is more inviting than fluorescent. The fruits and flowers placed outside the front entry draw one in, as does the deli almost immediately inside and to the right. Make your way around to a colorful selection of fruits and vegetables, bulk items and goodies, the bakery, butcher, refrigerated items and around towards cleaning supplies, gifts, chocolates, vitamins, etc. and back to the front where one can pay at any one of the registers manned by friendly personnel. Parking up close can be difficult to find, as there are other stores, restaurants, cafes in the vicinity, but nothing is too far. read more

Haggen has reduced their Chinese Deli area to sub par food now. They no longer give you an option to buy the large containers of anything. Only small aluminum containers or a tiny round plastic bowl. Has anyone tried to buy a container of just chow Mein? For a possible dinner for six people? You have to get about 12 little medium containers. Same with rice. They also no longer prepare the chow mein with chicken, just veggies. And the fried rice no longer has chunks of barbecue pork in it, just an over abundance of peas and carrots, just filler. But amazingly, they still charge the same price per pound without giving you any meat in the chow mein or the fried rice. Sad. I asked about this issue at customer service area...and their response was "We don't know what the Deli does, you need to ask them". What??? Fix your department communications. Haggen Chinese Deli used to be top notch. Not now. read more

Very nice store based on size, store design and lighting but as others have mentioned it's very expensive. And since we eat plant-based we completely skip the fancy deli section. Definitely nice produce but what's an instant eye opener is we usually purchase a few items at Safeway in Lynden that are offered here at a higher price ($2.00 more for the same item. Haggen is owned by Safeway. So it's obvious there is price gouging going on. We would definitely shop here if we want something specific or high quality produce but limit our purchase. What is also sad we can find many more plant-based food choices such as healthy crackers at Whole Foods. read more

The staff at the Haggen's pharmacy on Woburn are absolutely fantastic! When picking up an expensive prescription recently, the pharmacy tech kindly offered to check GoodRx to see if she could find a discount. Her extra few minutes saved me hundreds of dollars. Today when I went to get a Covid vaccine prior to flying internationally, the pharmacist asked if I was aware this was the old vaccine and informed me that the new one may be available as early as next week, rather than a month from now as I had incorrectly assumed. Staff here go out of their way to make my experience a good one. Unlike any other state I've lived in, I am loyal to this pharmacy because of the people who work there and the positive customer experiences I have as a result. read more

The quality of the produce and meat is unmatched. However where the store loses me is the prices. Everything is about 1/3 more to double what you would pay at Winco. Where does that extra money go? Definitely not towards repairing or replacing the water refilling machine. I've been going for water about once a week for 5 years now but it seems like for the past year the machine isn't working 90% of the time. To make matters worse there is never an out of order sign on the machine! I've given up on getting water from there altogether. Overall a great store but don't go there if you're not rich or if you want to refill a water jug. read more

I am really impressed with how Haggen is handling the COVID-19 crisis. Their staff are all masked up (and remain wonderfully helpful and cheerful). They have created clear and helpful signage to make social distancing easier. And my heart gave a skip of bittersweet happiness to learn that they were doing a two-for-one to help local creameries. Sadly, Haggen has been disappointing. It has been my go to for special and fun occasions, worth spending a bit more. The customer service in deli is horrible, they want you to help yourself to all pre-packed stuff that is way to big of portions for 2 people. If you ask them to cut in half or scoop fresh small portion you get an eye roll and the feeling you are a huge inconvenience. I have bought a few pre-packed items lately that were stale and tasted like mildew. The cashier was polite and apologetic and returned my money. I have never returned food before, but when forced to buy a large quality and it is already sat on shelves forever, I wont get stuck with $20 worth of un-edible items. read more

I live in Barkley Village and have enjoyed the stores Hot Beverage area for coffee, teas, and cocoa. The dining area is spacious and I've enjoyed meeting new friends there. Sadly they removed the self serve entirely, and moved everything to the deli. The worse part is the unreliable hours that you can get service. Even when the deli is open, they have the area roped off so you can stay in out of the elements and they randomly stop service. Hard to make plans around a schedule like that. read more

Unfortunately, we don't live near A Haggen but once in a while we get in there for something.. today it we were running around looking for something to eat.. we usually go to certain restaurants but we weren't near them and decided to run in to Haggen for a sandwich since right now everything is take out anyways.. we were so pleasantly surprised..actually stunned and practically seeing stars! The sandwiches available for take out used to be quite nice but Now they are gone upscale!!! They are behind a counter, displayed quite glamorously! And not only sandwiches but salads, Asian/Chinese food, hot foods like fried chicken, and anything and everything else you might want/need to go with it.. cookies, candy, homemade baked chips and it goes on! It was really hard to decide but we both ended up with sandwiches both prepared "Hot" and they came with chips or salad. We both had the chips. Also picked up a chocolate chip cookie and some waters. Eating in the car has been far too frequent but even the rain tapping on the windshield didn't dampen our enthusiasm for this amazing lunch! Both sandwiches were delicious !!! Even the price including the extras we also purchased, this was far less than our restaurant lunch would have cost. Fresh, super tasty and satisfying... oh and the employees were exceptionally friendly and warm even on this dreary day. Highly recommend for lunch! Located in a newer development in Bellingham, this Haggens has a great variety of groceries and hot ready to eat lunch items. The fish and chips from the deli are cooked to order (so they do take about 15 mins) but they are wonderful, containing a huge amount of fish and fresh breading. The fries are delicious and also includes a small side salad (depending on the salad the price might go up a little though). The staff is friendly, welcoming and they really work to move the checkout lines in a very quick fashion. Overall a great Haggen location. read more

After multiple visits and the employees ringing me up while complaining I have been turned off from shopping here. They complain about being at work, saying that their day isn't going well and overall sense of not being appreciated as a paying customer. I'll find anywhere else to shop that will appreciate and provide better customer service to a loyal shopper. read more

For a "Whole Foods" upscale kind of grocer, I was seriously disappointed. Upon entry as a new person in town who just left the east coast and all the accessible European and Asian foodstuffs, you're like WOW! ALL the stinky cheese! Beautiful flowers! Ooo, FRESH baked goods!! yay!! So you run around like a kid in the candy store, wincing a little bit at the prices for things, but hey they're special quality groceries so its worth the extra cash....NOPE. Seriously $162 for breakfasty stuff and some cleaning supplies, it was probably the cleaning supplies, but wholly heck batman, we got food for breakfast for 2 and a cleaning solution and some peanut butter, jelly, bread, and a half gallon of chocolate milk. In my glee I didn't notice that the milk was on the verge of expiration so 3 days later i open it up and I have chocolate yogurt. The jelly I bought, we opened, popped the safety seal and mold was growing inside. The bread also molded like the next day. The peanut butter was natural, so all the oil had settled, which is fine, except that it settled so long the bottom layer was peanut solid concrete with oil on top. At this location it doesn't seem like their dry goods move that fast so they have opportunity to go dry or moldy or both. The Haggen donuts are heavy and greasy, like they weren't fried in hot enough oil. The fresh produce seemed nice if pricey. Flowers can be a deal if you get them on sale. They had Hatch Green chile day and roasted some fresh on site the first time I visited. Long story short this is not your everyday grocery source, unless you're rich and frivolous and don't mind a lot of waste, or you go grocery EVERY single meal... It's good but pricey for some specialty items you may not be able to find elsewhere. So far this is the only major chain market in town where I've been able to find Lincet. It's $20/lb, but if I'm hard up I know where to find it. read more

On February 14th this year I purchased Sushi from the Barkley Village Haggen Store. Later that evening with my family the package of sushi was opened and we started to enjoy it. That is until I bit down on something very hard. It was a shard of clear glass. Just a little bigger than a grain of rice. It caused damage to my back right molar. I have suffered pain in my back right molar ever since. Well over the weekend my tooth BROKE IN HALF!@!. I am going in today to have it looked at. I will be footing the whole bill myself. Haggens and the sushi company deny any wrong doing and claim that they found no glass at their facility where the sushi was made. I repeatedly asked the claims representative Hartford at (480) 629-9080 claim #GL 18265494 where she thought the sealed package may have picked up the glass. She repeatedly stated not at the facility where the sushi was made. You can do the math on that one. Awful guest service, I came after they had just closed and the woman behind the counter in sandwich refused to help me to even one measly thing. When I worked in grocery/deli, we always helped people after closing time. I guess my goodwill and karma hasn't paid off. How can there not be any reviews for Haggens?! Its like the mecca of grocery stores in Northern washington! When I lived in Bellingham I learned quickly that you have to do a lot of stop shopping, ie get your meat from one place, your fish from another, your cheese another place and your sundries somewhere completely diferent. Haggens makes this a little easier, their meat department is very good and their fish department is stellar. Their wine merchant is SUPER knowledgeable and when i was in culinary school helped me do pairings on more then one occaision. Oh yeah and their bakery... mmmmmmmmmmmmm. Cheese section is also very good featuring cheeses, clerks ready to give you samples as needed. This is the best one out of all of the haggen's around bellingham so make this your first stop if you are need of whatever it is you may need. Keep in mind too they are little more expensive then say fred meyer but then again you won't have to traverse half a mile through clothing and tires to get to your food needs. read more

This is the nicest, most happening, grocery store in town. This particular store is the "flagship store" for Haggen. New products are tested here. Heck, the corporate offices are just a short walk away, so things usually look top notch and are well-stocked and well-presented. The prepared foods are always good for a quick and easy meal. The produce is pretty good (though not the best in town). The bakery is nearly as good as a gourmet stand-alone bakery. The meat section is pricey but better than it used to be. I always enjoy wines I find recommended in the wine section. I loved when they had every check stand open during the evening busy hours, but I understand why they stopped doing it. Lines are generally not too bad. Prices are a consideration. There are cheaper places to shop in town (there always have been). But the Haggen shopper is not one solely concerned with price. Haggen is a great, full-service grocery store with some of the freshest meat and produce you'll find in the area. The service is friendly and they've managed to retain that "small town" vibe even though they're growing into a large regional grocery store chain. I'll admit, though, that I only shop here when I need to quickly run in and grab a few things, as their prices are very high and it's just not affordable for my regular grocery trips. Maybe now that they're expanding into a larger conglomerate they will be able to lower their prices a bit more. read more

We have been going to this Haggen since I first moved into Bellingham 7 years ago. The staff is always incredibly friendly, they carry the weird things I want to buy (like Bubbie's sauerkraut and pickles) and they are always helping the community. I am sad to see what the sale of the company is doing to the employees and the store itself. Walking into Haggen's I was expecting a standard grocery store, which it is not! There are small Haggen's cafe-like areas that have fresh hot food for the wary shopper. Samples were available in some departments to entice shoppers into picking up more than they had planned for. The store layout was well thought out, and had a surprising amount of product in what did not appear to be that large of a store. While the prices are a bit higher than I would prefer to shop at on a regular basis, for a pre-event grocery stop, they had everything we needed, and then some. Would love to have some Haggen's in the Las Vegas area now that we're back home! read more

Disclaimer- this place is SPENDY!!! But there is so much to enjoy...it's similar to a Whole Foods. This is the kind of store you go to every few months when you need just a few specialty items or lunch...not your every day grocery store (unless money isn't a problem whatsoever, but then still, who would always overpay?). When you walk in, there is fresh fruit for free for the kids and a fruit infused water for adults to sip on. Score. This store has a Woods coffee, pharmacy, bank, deli counter (hot deli food includes whole rotisserie chickens, chicken strips, jojos, etc while the cold deli has cold cuts, cheese slices, salads, and the like), a Chinese food hot bar, sandwich station, huge produce section, a delightful bakery, meat and seafood section, rare and pricey cheese section, big booze and cocktail needs selection, seasonal goods (think Easter candy, Valentine's day needs, etc), and bulk candy. It has it all! I highly suggest the scones or their cakes from the bakery. I also like to wander through produce and it's fun to be able to get a sandwich made just for you at the sandwich bar. I also can find all my homemade cocktail needs here. Bulk candy is fun to take to movies (bonus that this store is across the street from the movie theater, not that I'm encouraging anyone to break any rules!). The store is well lit, clean, and the employees are always friendly. So it has everything going on except price, hence the 4 stars instead of 5. read more
