I'm modifying my original review of my club fitting experience this last July. I posted a negative review on Nov. 4th. Since that time, Ken Morton Jr., reached out to me with a genuine mia culpa regarding my experience of not having been communicated with regarding the long delays due to Covid. I appreciated his forthrightness and willingness to try to make things right. Very high quality interaction with him. Still won't get my clubs until later this year but at least some concessions were made to ease the pain of the experience. read more

Things have changed on the Arcade Creek two nine-hole golf courses. They used to provide cold water jugs on several holes throughout both the front and back nine holes. Well, no more. Be sure to bring an ample supply of water or be ready to triple pay for a bottle of water if and when you the beverage cart girl. The last two times my husband and I played we were informed that due to the homeless problems the course was no longer providing water for the golfers. We were told that there would be a rover monitoring the course and he would have a jug of water on his cart to service us. Never saw said rover either time we played and only saw the cart girl the first time we played (not interested in overpaying for a bottle of water) It gets hot in Sacramento. Chalk it up to another win for the homeless and another loss for thirsty golfers on a hot Sacramento day. read more

I want to first emphasize that this review is based on the golf courses and the driving range, not the super shop. I have reviewed that separately. There are two courses at Haggin Oaks, the McKenzie and the Arcade. McKenzie can be pretty challenging, especially from the tips. If the wind is blowing, it becomes quite difficult. The course can be deceiving, there are several bunkers that look like they are next to the green but are actually 30-40 yards short of it. Some of the greens are really undulating too. The course is usually in average condition. The greens are usually good. But the fairways can be brown in some spots and the rough can be patchy too. Also, the pace of play can be slow. The course gets crowded and because some of the holes are tough, it often gets jammed up. I played the Arcade course earlier today and it was in pretty good condition. It is a little easier than the McKenize, but the back 9 has some tough holes. The Haggin Oaks website advertises this as sort of the "beginners" course, but while it is not as hard as the McKenzie course, I think it is tougher than Bing Maloney or Bartley Cavanaugh. The last three holes at the Arcade are tough. Hole 18 is a weird par 5 where you don't see the whole until your third shot. The range is ok here too. They recently installed those auto-range things where the ball pops up automatically for you. My biggest gripe about the range is the wind. The range is not protected by trees and there is usually a strong left-to-right wind (if your a righty) blowing, which I'm told is the worst wind to practice in. Can't really blame the staff for the wind, but that doesn't change the fact that it's not the best place to practice. read more

I am a fan of the business, and it's facilities. However I spent $270 for a 6 session private lesson. Told the instructor "I shoot consistently 80-84 and want to break 80." He changed my set up and swing completely. I figured he knew his business so worked on it... Days at a time. Was hitting 1 out of 5 off the face of the club. After talking with many have been told "that was the wrong thing to do. good instructor will tweak some things, not break you down to scratch. " I am now struggling to even get my old swing back! Played Yocha de he a month ago and shot a solid 81. Played it yesterday and after nearly quitting 6 holes into the game, I ended up with a 109. Had not shot that horrible since I started playing 12 years ago. I am sure lessons are great for some, but make sure you are confident you have selected the right instructor. Haggin Oaks. With the rarity of things open in Sacramento 24hrs, this is a great spot to be, IF, you really want to be out late at night. It's the driving range that is open for 24hrs, during the period of May~Sept. $12 will get you a bucket of 150 Golf Balls to whip at. If you're cool enough, you'd probably have a "FREQUENT CARD" to get more balls. *wiggling fingers* OOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!! So what time do you go there? Well, for me, I go there pretty damn late. Try 10pm~1am. Yeah sir. But I do suggest to bring a BUG OUTFIT because there are large ammounts of Cockroaches, Moths, Beetles, and the occasional Bat. When it becomes real warm during the night, just multiply the bug community x100000. But, don't let that mess up your driving game. 5 stars? 4 stars? Nah, just a regular old 3 stars. I wouldn't know a driving range to be 5 or 4 stars. I mean, what else do you expect? + Convienent, 24hrs, can bring "drinks". - Stupid BUGS. read more

There are two courses at Haggin Oaks. The Alister MacKenzie course is the better of the two by far, and is a decent if unspectacular venue. It's well maintained and presents some challenging holes, and is a pretty good value for this area (especially if you go mid-week or in the afternoon). One oddity is that there isn't the traditional "out" and "back" design with the 1st and 10th holes near the clubhouse. This one is a loop, with the 10th way out in the back corner. (It's possible to start at the 10th but only first thing in the morning.) The other course, the Arcade Course, is the neglected younger brother. Get off the fairways and you're playing on hardpan that might as well be concrete. This is definitely more of a beginner course, and it's not unusual for a round to take over 6 hours. But it's cheap and the layout is fine, although the 18th hole is a bit of a puzzler: a drive over a creek, a forced layup before a sharp dogleg left, and an elevated green that slopes back down toward you. The practice facilities are good, with a large driving range that can get crazy crowded despite the high priced range balls (e.g., $9 for 95 balls). There are no grass stalls, and rubber tees aren't provided for free. There are three "academy" holes (short practice holes) that can be rented for $10/hour per person. There is also a video lesson/ball flight analysis area, but I don't have any experience with it. The pro shop is very nice: large with a huge inventory. Prices are a tad high, but you can demo the clubs on the range and the staff is knowledgeable and helpful. Some great deals can be had in the used/discontinued bins. Finally, the lounge is very good, with the requisite kitschy golf decor and well-stocked bar for post-round libations. read more

This place is awesome because its open super late and it's open 24 hours during summer! Crazy! Never seen something like that near my home. So it's pretty convenient if you are feeling like hitting some balls late at night. It's perfect for people who work late or just need to relieve some stress at 3. Maybe things are going bad at home? Maybe the kids are being annoying? Maybe the wife is nagging you all day ey day and it's getting on your last nerves? Maybe you're just pissed off and want to hit something! Well look no more, come here and you can hit the balls any time of the day you want! There's plenty space and it has automatic tee system. Nice bright lights and a large field. The only down fall is the price. It's 14 dollars for 150 balls which is pretty pricy from where I'm coming from. But the fact that their hours are so flexible it makes up for the high cost. Best Pro Shop for shoes, gloves, hats, and all the other fixin's. Sweet range with insta-tee mats, lighting, and some easy rock. Both courses are well maintained. Enjoyed the snack bars and mobile food carts too. Everyone loves the range parties at night. Oh, and did I forget- Lefty will love this place. read more

24/7 driving range. Now, that is awesome! However, as it is a 24/7 spot, it does bring out a lot of annoying people. From the college kids drinking and partying while hitting balls to the really loud, obnoxious folks, Haggin Oaks has its share of troublemakers. However, I should have expected that because what normal person goes to the range at 11 p.m. Have no one to blame but myself =( I was there around 11 p.m. on a Sunday and it was a packed house! The fact that it is 24/7, however, makes up for all the cons. Will continue coming here. read more

Haggin Oaks has it all: Pro Shop with every club/ball/accessory you could ever ask for, and they have 36 holes split between a beginner (Arcade Creek) and intermediate (Allister Mackenzie) course. The grass in the fairways is green, but shank a shot and you're in the dirt (I guess that's better than out of bounds). Great beginner course, and excellent for walking as the course is flat without many hazards. I'll be back. read more

Haggin was my home course back in the day when I lived in THE HEIGHTS. Ever since I moved to Rancho I havent played here in seriously 5 years, which is pretty sad. Not as sad as my golf game, but still sad enough. We rolled out here for a 1:30 tee time which on the Allister course with a cart was only $35. I thought that was pretty good. Been so long since I have been there that the driving range now has automatic tee that put your ball on it. It was kind of creepy and kind of cool. Hit up the bar to "warm up" prior to the round. They had a special going on called "The Provisional", which is a golf term, just trust me. It was vodka, oj, peach schnapps and a dash of 7up. It was sweet, but tasty and only cost $4. Now time for golf. In my golf league which lasted 15 weeks I had NOT ONCE put the ball down the fairway on the 1st hole. Call it first hole jitters. Well HOLY SH!T I put it RIGHT down the middle at about 250. I was thinking to myself "maybe this will be a good round for me", which, well, didn't last long. My first five holes - double bogey, double bogey, bogey, double bogey and then an 8 on a par four(I LOVE WATER). It was hot, humid, I was playing badly and starting to cuss. Things weren't going well. Then on the par three I somehow how hit a perfect shot(must of closed my eyes while swinging) within 6 feet of the hole and par'd. Played a little better after that. Ended up with three pars. Shot a 53 on the front side, NO LAUGHING! A 51 on the back side, I SAID NO LAUGHING! For a beautiful 104. Could of seriously been worse. Sad, but true. We had a ton of fun. The course was in good shape, but seemed a little soft. Probably because I am use to the concrete that they call the course at Cordova. I missed you Haggin. Hope I see you WAY sooner than five years. read more

Came here for the first time the other day. The size and variety of this place is somewhat intimidating. It's HUGE. My experience is mostly with the pro shop and the driving and putting/chipping range. I was greeted quickly by a very nice employee (John?) who was very helpful and friendly. Plus for good service. I was checking out clubs and was interested in the driving range. Turns out you can demo three clubs at a time and get a bucket of balls, all for free! I didn't take him up on his offer but was definitely tempted. So I brought my own clubs out to the monster driving range and at this point it got a bit confusing. There aren't really any signs indicating where to get balls, or how to operate the automatic machines. There's a big electronic contraption in front of each stall that has a bunch of buttons. I spent some time fooling with the macine on a couple different stalls trying to figure out how to get the balls to come up out of the hole in the ground. None were coming up. I asked one of the younger employees hanging out what was up and he directed me to a little shack in the middle of the stalls where I got 100 balls for $10. That's pretty reasonable in my book. So he gives me a paper ticket and I head back over to the stall and spend some time trying to figure out how to enter the number from the ticket at the little machine. Again, failure on my end. So I walk down to both sides of the range looking for a place to get balls and can't find it. Turns out the ball dispenser is further away from the driving range past the place where I got the ticket for the balls. Finally I got my balls, hooray! I dumped my balls into the hopper next to the machine. A button that says Tee let's you adjust the tee height consecutively through 4 different heights. It also tracks how many balls you have hit so far. After that is was smack away! Main issues I found: -the range itself is in AWFUL condition. I'm guessing (hoping?) due to the drought. It's like a giant dust bowl with almost no grass. Some of the targets are supposed to be identified by the fact that they are sandlike areas in the middle of green grass but in reality there was no way to delineate the difference between those areas and the rest of the range. -the machine doesn't always automatically tee up the ball so you spend some time waiting for it to get the next ball. No biggie. -if you want to try and hit off the green itself sometimes another ball pops up while you are getting ready to take your next stroke. Again, no huge issue. -you are not hitting off grass, so if you are hoping for that then you're out of luck. I love that it is 24 hours, though I didn't play that late. The putting, chipping and pitching area was nice and large. I don't recall seeing any bunker practice areas but maybe I missed them. read more

Beautiful course I love to take my kid here and golf another amazing thing that they do here is they have the first tee classes for the younger ones learning to play and from those classes my son is doing amazing. Haggin Oaks is a nice course, but I think it's a little pricey. The Arcade course (the low end course if you will) is nearly $40 to play the full 18 walking. The course itself is well maintained. The holes are fairly straight forward with little in way of hazards save for the occasional sand trap and flat "rough patches" in between the holes (should you hook or slice). The holes are pretty long, but as long as you hit your drives straight and don't stray too far from the fairways you should be in good shape. read more

This course has always been a great place to play, but today in almost 100 degree heat is was not customer friendly. There was not enough water containers on the course. I remember one on the front nine, and only two on the back nine. The courtesy cart came by infrequently, and the bathroom has a code on it, but we didn't realize the code came on the receipt you get when you check in. I'll try it again, but hope they take notice on keeping their customers hydrated and comfortable during the 18-hole play. read more

Mixed Review - Great Staff, Retail prices are a lose, Green Fees are higher than competition for what it is, No free round with a $2300 purchase!? 1. The staff were very good. I had my clubs stolen and was helped by one of the pros to receive a fitting and find the right combination for my needs. Woods, irons, and wedges are all fantastic - fit great and I love hitting them. (Ping G25's for woods w/stock tour stiff, TaylorMade RocketBladez Tour for irons w/s300 steel, Vokeys for 52, 54, 60) Scores aren't reflecting how well they fly, but thats what a 7 month break does. Only downside thus far is I guess the new world of golf got rid of the 2 and 3 iron I had before and this hybrid thing is in my bag now. I miss being able to punch out from the trees and still get 200 yards or having a long iron tee shot as a choice on tight holes, but forgiveness has its price. 2. In this world of internet shopping, its odd to ever pay retail to me. There was no negotiation on the price, although I will say the staff again bent over backwards to help accommodate my needs. So I bought last years Vokeys instead of the newest model - no biggie, but even still these things are expensive! 3. I think the course is just fine, but being along Hwy 80 does not make me feel that $50 for 18 is an appropriate price. Nor is $20 for 9 holes on the Arcade Creek course. Layout is solid, but price should be lower by 25% or more. 4. This is just a pet peeve...why is a free round of golf (or rounds) not included with a full set purchase? So there is a warranty that comes with the clubs...hmmm I wonder if the ideal place for an on-course pro shop purchase to be tested would be on that course!? Nah...they want another $50 on top of the $2300! That's just ridiculous. Come on guys, throw down a voucher or 4...its not like there aren't tee times available... Anyway, in summary, people were good, pro shop is great, prices on everything are high, and finally, step up and recognize that the internet can never give me a free round of golf just because they are cool - thats up to the guys in the pro shop to make me feel like a guest. read more

Ball washers are back in action at every course I've been recently except for Allister at Haggin Oaks apparently, they keep wasp nests in theirs. So be careful, went to wash ball on 10th tee and was attacked and stung by wasps that came out of ball washer. Hand got the worst of it. read more

Very nice place to drill golf balls. My buddy loves playing golf. He gets me out with him to the driving range as I have no interest in golf, but with my mighty swing, I can hammer a golf ball halfway to Mars! Good way to get the creaks out of the body and swing away. Pretty nicely maintained place. Gets fairly busy and usually we go out there at night. They open pretty late, not sure what time. Great driving range, especially in the summer when you can go at any hour of the night. The new automated ball dispensers are nice, except when they jam or the tee pops up sans-ball....yeah, that's kind of annoying. The 18-hole course was purchased about a year ago by a private company, and they've made the experience MUCH better. It used to be impossible to finish 18 in less than 6 hours unless you went out at 6:30 a.m., and every round would end the same: I'd get so furious hitting a shot and waiting 10 minutes that I would walk off around the 14th hole. No longer. They've spaced out the start times more, and the course itself is in GREAT shape. If you are willing to walk it's really affordable. read more

Go to their website and book your tee time (and cart if you need/want one). I tend to play Arcade Creek during the middle of the day because it can be less than $20 with a cart for 9 holes and I usually won't have to play with anyone. The front 9 is extremely straight, without many hazards, but if you do hit it out of bounds you can usually find your ball - although you might be sitting on some hard dirt. The back 9 has more tree's that come into play, and the 18th hole is a monster that crosses a creek, hooks left, crosses another creek, and then the green is uphill. Plan on losing at least one ball on this hole. read more

A few months ago I signed up for group lessons at Haggin Oaks. I took the 'Get Golf Ready 1' course with Dale and Joe. This review is for the complex and not the lessons, but as an aside, the lessons are awesome! Basically I started at Haggin as a super beginner and now I feel comfortable everywhere in the complex and can handle myself pretty well on either of the back 9 courses. Everyone here is friendly and very patient while you learn the game and golf etiquette. This place brings in really really good players, and people like myself who had only ever played mini golf. The pro shop is very helpful with any questions, and I felt that the store had tons of inventory. The restaurant is also a great reasonably priced stop to grab some lunch (get the tacos) before hitting the course or for a beer after. I have zero complaints about Haggin Oaks. The golfers and employees alike are all very welcoming. The facility is clean, safe, fun and has very convenient hours. I will thank my humble beginnings at Haggin Oaks for introducing me to this game once I go pro! ;) read more

I've hit countless buckets of balls at this late night driving range over the last 10 years, and just recently played a round of golf on each of the two courses here. I haven't been disappointed yet! First, the range. Several years back, they put in electronic tees, so you can just dump your bucket in and not have to keep stooping to tee up. And with variable tee heights, I can avoid topping the ball all of the time, which is great for my game. Also, not sure if this is common at muni courses, but the pro shop will let you demo clubs for free and give you a small bucket of balls. Friends and I would do this and demo several sets each trip in high school, not paying a dime. I can't in good conscience recommend this, but it was nice for us poor high school kids. Next, the courses. Each one is well kept, mostly straight fairways, with not too many water and sand hazards. Nonetheless, I somehow manage to lose more balls here than any other course. But they have lots of water coolers setup and stocked, so I kept well hydrated while searching. I didn't catch which course is named what, but the one to the left of the clubhouse (southwest) was a bit confusing to me finding the next hole. The other course, the tee boxes were practically right next to the pins, so that made it easy. Pricing is reasonable - 18 holes on the weekend is about $20, plus another $6 apiece for cart rental. Driving range is also decently priced, a bucket of 50 for about $10. Location is perfect for an after work jaunt. It's right off the freeway, with plenty of parking, and I haven't been here yet when there hasn't been at least a couple stalls open at the range. The course has been a staple of the Sacramento area, and has one of the best practice centers in the area, Driving range is 24 hours during the late spring/summer months. We played the Alster Mckennzie course. Over the years, the conditions have declined and with so many other options area, it's no longer a must play. However, it's still a decent track. The course layout is pretty straight forward and is decent shape, considering how dry and hot it is. Pricing is good, as there are really good deals on Golf Now and EZlinks. Nice Laid back course if you're looking to get out without breaking the bank read more

Lots of stalls for players, it is 24/7 with music playing , that is awesome. A few years ago all the stalls were automatic , now just some are ( bummer). It does get very busy at night and you will probably have to wait for a stall . We went on a Monday at 10:00 p.m and we had to wait , it gets that busy! There is a groupon for the driving range . Went there for the first time with my friends only for being there for the weekend since I'm currently in arizona and the people up front seemed very rude and made me pay $25 for breaking a golf club when it was literally my first time there and my very first swing. The guys in the club repair are awesome. Not from the area but have stopped in there twice for a quick repair and both times they took care of me immediately. This is the only insight experience I've had with them. Online however is a different story. I have signed up three times online to be contacted for a driver and iron fitting and I have never received a call or email back. Very disappointing. Having to commute from Elk grove to Rocklin for work, i find it easy to make a short stop for some me time after work here. the range is open 24hrs during warmer seasons and they have automated ball setters. Best place to relieve stress or just to practice your golf swings. read more

I finally played the Arcade Creek track and had a lot of fun. There isn't a whole lot of variety, but for a fairly new golfer that's actually a good thing. We went before 8 and got stuck behind four elderly ladies with pull-carts and a group of increasingly-drunk 20 year-olds who had no business playing from the championship tees (I think one of those three guys must have had a score of 150). There was a fair amount of damp ground from the watering that was in progress on many holes as we played. I would say that for the deal we got (groupon for 25 dollars including cart on a Saturday morning) it was good value, but for the normal prices that they charge, there are better options around. I would give the Arcade Creek course a 3.5/5. I maintain the overall 5-star rating because of the driving range. What I posted previously still stands: "Simply the best driving range around. I've taken to stopping here on my way to work and hitting a small bucket. It's a better pick-me-up than a cup of Starbucks and about the same price. I got a 250 dollar range card for 200 dollars and I just swipe that when I come and it keeps track of how much I have left so that I don't have to remember to bring cash with me. Hitting under the lights at night is a great experience, and its even fun to stand back on a busy summer night (and it stays busy late into the evenings in the summer) and watch all the golf balls streaking into the sky like reverse shooting stars. The automatic delivery system for teeing the ball is dangerous: once you start using it, no other driving range will do." read more

Both my husband and I are frequent golfers, 2 times or more weekly for several years. We have found the Haggin Oaks Super Shop to be an excellent and competitively priced store for everything golf-related. Prices are comparable to internet. The Super Shop has recented managerial changes and additions to their professional fitting and training staff making Haggin Oaks well worth any travel involved. They have everything from clubs, in house repair and accessories of all kinds. Plus a gigantic selection of ladies and men's apparel. We love it there and having been to many other "outlet stores", would highly recommend the Super Shop to anyone who loves golf. This is Golf Mecca! I received a fitting and training from Danielle, who incidentally is a jewel to work with. She is always such a pleasure and makes a point to say hello and asks me how I'm doing (and my golf game). I was able to get a new club set and they have worked out great for me! The store manager, John P., was able to smooth and expedite a potentially damaging situation between a vendor and my husband.
