Food was delicious. I especially loved the butatama okonomiyaki. We also got a bunch of veggie sides and some fried rice which were also good. Would recommend

A new food option for Louisville from the same owners of Dragon Kings Daughter! Unique flavors, cool restaurant ambiance, variety of selection, and affordable.

I was in Japan for a few weeks and was craving eating Japanese food after returning. My friend and I both had this place on our list since it opened. We came on a cold weekday evening so it wasn't that busy. They've got a lot of the drink names and pictures in Japanese which was pretty cool. It does have a similar vibe to what an izakaya (Japanese pub) looks like. A lot of the food is what's been popularized in Osaka. We started off with okonomiyaki. Lots of sauce and definitely a lot of filling. It was decent. Flavors weren't bad. We also got 5 kushikatsu, which automatically makes it omakase. Chefs choice. I have no idea what the skewers were as the server said it too fast/I wasn't paying attention. lol. It was bland but a lot of food in other countries is less salted than American food. We dipped the skewers in the okonomiyaki sauce. We also shared katsu curry. Prob the best thing to order here! It's been difficult to find good Japanese curry in the states. Trying it from countless places in other cities, it's always been just okay to me. In Japan, the curry tastes so much better. I was shocked this was good! Overall, I really liked the vibe. They were playing some 80s Japanese music which made me think about how much I miss Japan. Glad to see them here! Hope this restaurant sticks around a while!

I cannot remember what my husband ordered; but he has ordered it both times we've gone so it must be good.

If you have not tried this place, you probably should. The food is very, very good. They have a full bar, decent selection of vegetarian options, and friendly employees. We always sit at the bar, which is quite comfortable. The booths do not look like they would be comfortable, but maybe they are. The fried rice comes in a big ball, and it is really good. They have a tasty sake on draft. They have some Japanese whiskeys as well. Nice ambiance. Clean. Feels genuine. The only thing I would change is the bathrooms. I would recommend making them gender neutral. I had to wait a long time both times I wanted to use the restroom. The first time was just to wash my hands before I ate. The second time I got tired of waiting so I left. It's a single occupancy restroom. They could maybe put the sink and a mirror outside the two restrooms so hand washing can be done without waiting. Otherwise, the bathroom was clean and spacious. Go give the place a try some time. We will definitely be back!

Super excited to go here, super average fair. Cute interior, charming that signs were in Japanese and no discernible mistakes. Service was fine. Food, well that is a different story. Pork for katsu curry was over cooked (breading was good). Osaka style okonomiyaki was basically raw in the middle and the chunks of meat were really not very appetizing. Kim chi was good. I appreciate what they are trying to do, and maybe it's because I have lived in Japan that i found the food average at best. I hope the folks at HaiFry will be able to up the quality of the food.

After all the hype we decided to try Haifry but it did not taste as well as we hoped. The interior I am obsessed with, the low lights with intimate seating make the experience match the food. Off the bat the breading does not stick to the meat for the katsu curry. Our chicken was completely separated from the fried breading we were so excited to try. The rice and curry were fantastic though; but the star of the dish was not up to par. The fried sticks are so awesome though, the best one was the mozzarella as the meat just felt tough and hard to chew. We are going to come back hopefully to some improvements!

Clean restaurant, Fun ambience. Nice servers. Authentic food. Street parking only. Libations. My $0.02, this is a fairly new restaurant, same owners. I would add a traditional free first course of miso soup and tsukemono ( cabbage ) . A great pre digestive aid. My kids who just visited Japan were impressed on the quality of the food. As was some about the nice toilets. Izakaya style is accurate. But not sure that is what Louisville pubbers that are non Japanese will be looking for. But hey, the do make gohan correctly.

I am so excited for this restaurant, something different and new to the city. Osaka Style dining. I think this is a great addition to the neighborhood filled with bar businesses. Simple dishes to go with some drinks, late night option. Manage to try every option on the menu, Okonomiyaki is such a versatile dish, japanese pancake with just toppings and extra you can add to it. the Otsumami appetizers are just wonderful small plates of pickled or season vegetables that make great summer appetite starters. Definitely try the asparagus and the eggplant. Kushikatsu which are the breaded panko skewers of meat, vegetable and carbs on a stick. $2 for a stick and special deals if u order more. I miss eating all that back in the days in Japan. The curry is good. makes a good meal. the yakisoba is good but could be better. Its a new concept and i think the servers are also learning, but they have been great at answering questions. All and all, it was a great dining experience and I would definitely be frequenting this establishment.

Second time at Haifry, the restaurant is cute and service was fast and friendly. I ordered the chicken Yakisoba with shio sauce, it was really flavorful. My partner ordered the Katsu Curry and enjoyed it. We also ordered the 5 sticks for $8 of the Kushikatsu, these were all pretty disappointing and cold. If they introduce a happy hour with food I will for sure be back.

Hubby and I have loved going to Dragon King's Daughter for years. But we were always hoping that they would add more items to their menu. HaiFry comes in w the answer and more seating to ease the line at DKD!! The interior is reminiscent of DKD but a bit more casual. This is Osaka style: good, fun, casual Japanese bar food. I'm happy to report that they also have Toki highball on draft here - whiskey and soda. It is very light, unsweetened and refreshing like an adult ginger ale. We started a few kushikatsu. These are breaded, lightly seasoned, small things that are deep fried. Most of the flavor will come from the dipping sauces. Our faves were the beef, cheese, quail eggs. I found the tofu to be particularly bland. But I would definitely try the aji, pork and eggplant next time. My favorite item this evening was the pork and kimchi stirfry. The flavor is not too heavy, good for eating alone or with a side of rice. I was so surprised that they have stewed beef tendon - doteyaki. If you like tendon, you'll love this! We didn't have more room to try more foods. We'll definitely be back for more! Service was friendly, helpful and efficient. Prices are very reasonable, too!

A taste of Tokyo in Louisville. Excellent vibes and great food. The coffee jelly is one of the best desserts I have ever had. This will be on repeat! Ps- best bathroom award!

I've been looking forward to trying HaiFry for weeks; it was a "must" for when I finally came back into town. My friends were going crazy for it. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't at all disappointed. Our waitress/server was extremely rude and negligent; snappy, short responses, and left us waiting for almost 20 minutes. We had to pull, who we assume was the owner or manager, over to finally get some attention. And the curry... well... it wasnt good. It was watery and tasted off compared to curry in Japan and other restaurants in the area. Pricing was okay. Facility was nice, though the music was too loud. Portions were good. I really enjoyed the okonomiyaki! I may go back if craving okonomiyaki or if a friend wants to go. Probably won't be my go-to place unless they improve their curry.

I was visiting Louisville for the weekend and checked out this restaurant. Haifry has really yummy food and great service! Our server had amazing tattoos and super sweet. She checked up on us a good amount to make sure we were doing okay and whatnot. Also, the restaurant was clean and the restrooms had bidets which was nice!

I went with my partner and ordered the Miso Soup, Rainbow Roll (replaced shrimp with yellow tail) and a Vegetable Fried Rice. Listen. The fried rice is absolutely where it's at. You wanna talk savory? This is it. Flavor? Yes, it's all here. Quantity? Surely something that tastes so comforting and warm would be scarce. NOPE! They LOAD your plate with fried rice, it's like a compact mountain of deliciousness whose savory goodness pairs extremely well with the mellow, soothing flavor of their Miso Soup. Their Rainbow Roll was also very good, especially with the portion size. It has a fresh taste where it lets you know it was made the moment before it got to your table. I replaced the shrimp only because my partner is allergic to crawfish and I wanted her to try some, but I've had it with shrimp before and recommend you have it with it. I focused a lot on the comfortable vibes here because I think that's what Osaka excels at. Eating here is like going to visit your mom after a while and she makes you your favorite dish just how you remember it. Maybe you've had a better tasting version of it somewhere else, but this is MOM's cooking. Its flavors are great, the portion size is great, and it's made with love and care; with you in mind. For a modest price you get bang for your buck here, absolutely come give this place a try if you're in the area.

At first, I was a little off put as the restaurant was a little dingy and kind of unclean in parts, but someone came out to the floor and worked a bit on the mess while we ate our meal so that was eventually addressed. My sushi was fresh, my teriyaki was flavorful and most importantly the tofu was battered and deep fried perfectly! A close second to Heart & Soy and trust me as a vegetarian for 5 years, pescatarian for 3, that is GOOD COMPANY to be in when it comes to the best tofu! Ultimately the food is well made and well priced. If you're looking for the most aesthetically pleasing restaurant in the world, not your best bet but if you're looking for well made classic japanese cuisine you found your spot!

I think my cocktail was called the Tokyo Pop? Not positive but you have to get it. Gin, bubbles, sake, and a hint of lemon in a flute glass. Refreshing, a hint of sweet, a hint of lemon, and extremely drinkable. It would be too easy to throw a ton of these back. But I was demure and had one. I enjoyed the calamari--my go-to here. Crispy, with a bit of heat from pickled peppers, a bit a of sweet form a sweet glaze, and a nice herby zing from mint, herbs, and scallions. They also top the calamari with a a nice portion of greens dressed in a lemon vinaigrette, making this appetizer feel close to a light meal. I am absolutely obsessed with the ponzu mayo that comes on the side. An absolutely delightful touch. I also enjoyed the chocolate cream pot. Talk about decadent. I love that it is served with berries, because you need that tartness to balance out the richness. Fully indulgent. Bonus points: I working fireplace. We were given champagne at the entrance by the hostess for a toast, nice touch. We were escorted through the resturant and showed the restrooms as well as the display of steak choices. Another nice touch. We were seated and served water and asked about drink orders. We all stuck with water. The server, Amber was very helpful with explanations of the specials as well as individual steak options. We opted for the Tenderloin flight, a 4oz filet, a 4 oz prime and 5 oz wagya. Most of us enjoyed the filet best, then the prime and the wagya the least. Keep in mind the wagya was excellent but the other two cuts were enjoyed more. With the exception of my son in law, wagya was his favorite. All were tender and juicy and cooked to perfection, medium rare. We ordered a large wedge salad to share, romaine lettce, blue cheese, pecans, bacon, served with a hot bacon dressing. Not sure why it's called a wedge salad but it was very tasty, dressing made the salad. We ordered mashed potato pattis, that were good, suburb grit cakes that were like nothing I've ever had and everyones favorite side, the limas, in a cream sauce with country ham crisp, again not like anything I've ever had and again excellent and lastly the green that were seasoned to perfection and very tender. We were given a complimentary anniversary dessert, a crisp pecan shell with a white chocolate mousse, and a a berry compote. It was my husbands favorite. We ordered two additional desserts. The chocolate bread pudding with ice cream. My daughters favorite. And lastly the Rumchatta butter cake, a rich butter cake that was so moist but also crunchy on the edges. Mine and my son in law's favorite. Service was exceptional, never an empty water glass, plates cleared as soon as we finished a dish and all servers were super sweet, polite and accomodating. Large parking lot, so no problem parking. I would suggest walking around to see if there is one area more than another where you would prefer to sit.
